KKC's Art

I hadn't really planed on making a art thread here sense I have an account on DA, but the people on DA don't like to critique very much (and I would like some tips). Here are two of my works that I've done. I would like some detailed critiques and criticism please. Mostly on inking and shading at the moment. ^^

Naruto Pic - Did this week.

Deviant Art ID - Did a couple of weeks ago.

Thank you!

Thanks for the most lovely comments and I have learned quickly that practice makes perfect >.< Here are a few more pics that I've done over the past few weeks. I'll put links at the bottom of the page in case the pictures don't show up.

Obito - True Love

I made this for a contest in a club I'm in at DA. This is another Naruto character, Uchiha Obito. I think my shading has been best on this one (meh oppinion).

100 Hits (for White)

White got my 100th page view, so he got a free request (not that I charge anyway). This is his character Hart and uh... yeah... I used a referance pic of Naruto. This was also my first time using the airbrush tool.

Valentine's Typo

First off, don't give me much credit for this because this is an actual Valentine's card. All I did was draw and color it so I could show people online. It took me about 15 minuets and that's why it's a little on the crappy side...

I can't see the final three images you posted, just so you know. The links work just fine, but the images aren't working.

On your first Naruto drawing, the image is done very well. Your style is amazing, just one thing that bothered me a little. The shading on his face seems a bit... out of place. Try making the shading a lighter color, then I'm sure it'll be just fine.

As for your other ones, I could type about how wonderful they are but I won't. Because they are. And I love "Valentine's Typo."

Nice job!

[Edit] Gah.. the images are working now. Ha.

I like your pics alot but something has been...bothering me. The first Naruto pic is great...but the chin and neck are messed up alil. The chin seems bulgy and square. Thge neck is skinny(but heck, skinny is better right?). :animesmil Anywho, great work KKC!

EDIT: Oh, I believe you wanted critique mainly on inking and shading. Well, what can I say? Clean cut and ready for an award! Heh. 9.5/10 on all of 'em.

I can't see your most recent pictures, so I'll just critique the first two you have posted.

In regards to line art, my first impression is blurry and blocky. Your line art looks like you used a blur tool on it, so maybe if you cleaned it up a bit it would look better. Also, doing line art on the computer can help this. Due to the lines all being one thickness, the line art seems very blocky and boring. Try varying the line thickness, experiment a bit until you find what you're looking for. Mostly what I do it make the line thicker in the middle and shorter on the ends (and thicker depending on shadows? there are many factors, really). This is especially noticeable in the things (scars? whiskers?) on Naruto's cheeks and the folds of the clothes where the lines should probably taper off at the ends. I have to say though; you have very smooth lines, which is difficult to do.

The shading is pretty good, but a bit too blurry for my tastes. Once again, it looks like you used one size of brush where the shadows should probably taper off. This is especially noticeable on the hair and the clothing in both pictures. It looks like you used an airbrush tool, and for cel style shading this is a bad idea. If you wanted to try doing soft style shading I suppose it's fine, but I don't know anything about that style really. You seem to be doing a good job of showing where the light source is from, and I always have issues with that myself.

Continue practicing and your style will be amazing. Your style of drawing is already very good, by the way.

Links to the picture are always found at the bottom in case they don't show up ;)

I fixed my blurry inking problem by using a high resolution for when I scan. That way when I resize everything the lines come out smoother (I also think it had something to do with using the automatic border tool). Here's some new work that I felt like posting (mostly FMA).

It's Al from FMA! Yes, I know the font is prolly a load of crap, but i'm not good with font. That's why I draw mostly.

Another fanart of FMA. This time it's Young Ed and Al taking a bath. Ed doesn't like baths.

This is minor character from Avatar: The last airbender. There are quite a few bodily issues with this piece, but I drew it while there was tornado warning! o.O

This is a gift I made for Imi. His name is Ezekiel (that name sounds so familiar)! Just got my markers, so i'm a bit rusty with them.

I think I commented on all your pictures on devART, but I'd look like a stinge if I didn't thank you again for Ezekiel here.

As you saw from my spasms on devART, I'm so impressed with him. Something I forgot to point out was that you're really good with controlling those markers. Myself and a friend both let our pens bleed really bady when we got ours, so you've done a magnificent job.

Your work is really coming on well, I always love the expression you manage to capture in the character's faces.

Looking forward to your 100 themes pictures (I'm nearly finished one of mine!). =D

I've had a bit of trouble with the bleeding too (that sounds so wrong), but after I scan it I try cleaning it up a bit where it went out of the lines. I also don't have markers that match very well (like the color I used for his hair is the only real red I have >.<). Also, I didn't draw all of his left arm o.O I think I had planned to put the rest in, but then forgot XD

Well, here's another pic that I finished yesterday. The crazy fangirls are myself (left) and Imi (right) XD Naruto fanart!
