OOC: A little late perhaps. Nevertheless, no real loss to anyone else.

IC:Lacroix rose from his inadequate shelter to the harsh light of another foul dawn. The sun struck his head like a hammer, forcing him to overshadow his face with his darkened hood. His mood was as flat and stark as the desert he inhabited. The creatures there did not bother him. The solitude was his preference. The emptiness reflected his soul. This place suited him, but it was time to move on.

Soundlessly, Lacroix gathered up his meagre possessions. He set off east, towards the more civilised area of the elvish continent. The journey would be long, the hardship a toiling drain on his tortured body. He considered the odds of surviving outside his element. The outside world, he had turned his back on. His rejection had not even been noticed. Was he ready to face another sentient being? Could he live in a regular society. He had too long been the creature of instinct, the primeval hunter. He bowed to no law, and knew no morals. If ever he had had civilised habits, they had long since disappeared. Not that he was in any way a barbarian. He was merely unaccustomed to polite society. If not for his habit of talking to himself, he would have forgotten how. He no longer could read the subtle interplay of political power at a glance. He no longer knew if they even existed anymore.

Lacroix wondered why he cared. What he hoped to find. This was his place, the only place htat had ever accepted him. Or was it? So much of his life had been lost? The scars coating his body a mere imprint of the damage to his psyche. But was not that exactly what he was after? A new challenge. Lacroix's curiousity quickened along with his pace. He could be out of the desert quickly, and almost immediately find out what he had missed in the countless years of his sojourn.

He checked his scimitars in their sheathes, confident of his ability to deal with the trouble that would surely be thrown at him.

Luca sat up straight. He was staring forward, eyes wide open.

It was that same dream again. It was haunting him. And lately, he'd been having it every single night. He wasn't sure if Rasanak was experiencing the dream as much as he was, nor did he know what to make of the cryptic messages within the dream itself.

Luca looked around his apartment. It was morning. The clock next to his bed had "7:03AM" glowing on its facia.

Luca stood up and walked over to the window near his bed. Vin Kartia looked so beautiful on this particular morning. Everything had an orange haze from the morning sunlight. The streets below were bustling as usual, but not as frantic as they were the night before.

Luca smiled. It was a genuine smile, not the kind of smile he'd use infront of Rasanak or other people to pretend that he was happy. He was happy to live in the city, but it never really felt exactly right to him, as if he didn't really belong.

But in any case, he didn't want to overthink it right now. He had a mission to attend to.

While he was having breakfast that morning, Luca switched on the plasma monitor to watch the news...

"...the bombing took place on the outskirts of Meridion, where several leaders from across Gaia were meeting to discuss Verdun's recent military expansions on some of its minor islands.

Several diplomats were killed, including the King's Aide from the nation of Esperna. There were more than thirty elves injured in the attack.

While no details have come out about the attack yet, some elves within Oleron are already accusing Verdun of plotting the attacks..."

Luca switched the monitor off. An explosion in Oleron? That sounded so strange to Luca. Oleron was always known as a place of peace throughout Gaia. Who on Gaia would want to perform such an attack?

For a moment, Luca wondered if it had something to do with Rika-Sun. But Rika-Sun only seemed to be concerned with his business operations in Verdun, so why would he possibly want to attack diplomats in another country?

It was all too much to take in. Luca decided that for now, it was best to just get dressed and stock up on weaponry for the mission ahead...

Rasanak sat at his living room table, eating some cereal. He was watching a sport channel with some highlights of a match that was played last week between Nara-Zemir and Vin Kartia.

... Vin Kartia played very well with great striking, but Nara-Zemir's strong defense was something that Vin Kartia couldn't break easily. Nara-Zemir just concentrated on defense most against the attackers of Vin Kartia. The match ended in a tie: Vin Kartia 6, Nara-Zemir 6. The match to decide the tie-break will be commencing sometime this week...

Rasanak got up and turned off the Plasma Moniter and picked up his GBH and card key for the apartment, then pocketed them both. He walked over to the door and went out into the hall, then locked the door after him and walked to the next apartment door (this is Luca's) and knocked on it. Luca opened the door and smiled.

Luca: Oh hey Rasanak.

Rasanak: Hey, are you ready to go buy our weapons yet?

Luca: Not just yet, come in for a second.

Rasanak: Oh okay.

Rasanak walked into Luca's spacious apartment and looked around. It was the same as usual, neat and tidy, very unlike Rasanak's apartment. Rasanak sat down on the sofa and Luca followed and sat next to him. Quickly, Rasanak reached for the remote control and switched on the Plasma Moniter.

Luca: Have you heard the news?

Rasanak: ..Wha news?

Luca: I'll show you..

Luca took the remote from Rasanak and switched it onto the news channel. It showed scenes from the Oleron bombing, Rasanak sat watching, eyes wide open in surprise. Luca switched it back to the sport channel.

Rasanak: ... Bombings in Oleron!? What have they ever done to anyone?

Luca shrugged.

Luca: Nothing, but the elves within Oleron are already suspecting us, Verdun, as the culprits. It could have been Rika-Sun.. but I'm not sure.

Rasanak: Us? Bleh, it probably was Rika-Sun... but he's an elf? Why would he want to bomb his own race..?

Luca: I really don't know, we can find out more when we go out to get our weapons.

Rasanak: Yeah.

Luca picked up his wallet from the table and turned back to Rasanak.

Luca: Ready?

Rasanak: Mmm.. Oh! There is gonna be a Sky Hockey game sometime this week, Nara-Zemir vs. Vin Kartia, do you wanna go and see it?

Luca grinned.

Luca: Yeah, cool that'd be great!

Rasanak: Cool. Come on then, let's go.

Luca and Rasanak walked out of the door, locking it behind them and proceeded to walk out of the apartment block hall..

After several days travel, Lacroix emerged into a civilised world. The first impression he had, of the outside world that would become his home, was twisted valley, stunted due to lack of sunlight, and some other foul malady upon the land itself. A single figure wound its way along an overgrown path, the debris seeming not to hinder it in the slightest. Lacroix loosened his scimitars, before starting down the rocky trail towards the ruined vale.

Lacroix's descent, silent as it was, did not go unnoticed. The figure, now revealed to be a wizened old elf, turned and fixed him with a penetrating gaze as Lacroix caught up with him. In a voice that reminded Lacroix of scales against metal, the man immediately started talking to him.

Man: You one of them freeswords hey? You lookin' ta go get em bastards that bombed us hey?

Lacroix: Bombed? What are you talking about?

Man: Ah, ya haven't heard? Well thankee, I'll be the one telling you then. We got ourselves attacked you know. And ya know who did it?

Lacroix: No. But I'm sure you'll tell me.

The elf goes quiet, muttering something about Verdun, before shutting up entirely. Whether to do with Lacroix's sarcasm, or something else, is not something Lacroix really could be bothered finding out.

Lacroix: Well. I must be going. It seems this part of the world will not be so bad after all. At least something to keep me occupied.

At this, the man looks up sharply. He takes in Lacroix's worn appearance, his weapons, his mannerisms.

Elf: You're that crazy elf that's been wandering the desert for years!

At this Lacroix, who had started to walk away, stopped in surprise.

Lacroix: Great. Now people know who I am. Fare thee well, O one that is surely crazier than I am at the moment.

Elf: Yeah, it changes doesn't it.

Lacroix pays the comment no heed, his journey still awaiting him. Remembering the world as he knew it, he kept going east, the capital, Meridion, being somewherre in that direction. But what would he find there?

It was time for him to leave. Corran hoisted the sack of water onto his shoulder. He looked around at his humble shack for the last time, it would not be missed.

Corran left at midday, so that he would not have to long in the hot desert sun. He headed southwest, towards Vin Kartia. The days passed, and his water supply began to thin, but Corran's will never faltered. Instead, his hatred grew and so did his desire for revenge....

Luca and Rasanak were standing at the foot of their apartment building.

The streets directly beyond were like the veins of a giant beast, and the various vehicles travelling around them were like the blood vessels.

Luca and Rasanak needed to stock up on weaponry before attending the Sky Hockey game. As they walked toward a nearby Air Taxi Terminal, they both saw a large poster on the side of a building, advertising the Sky Hockey game. The game was due to start later that night.

Luca: Oh man, it's on tonight!.

Rasanak sighed.

Rasanak: Ugh, yeah...man, we're going to miss it!

Luca stood there, deep in thought. How could they make the game by tonight? A game as large as this would surely be sold out already. Luca decided that they'd probably have to sneak their way in.

Luca: Well...we'll just have to sneak our way in! What other choice do we have?

Rasanak: Oooo...Luca breaking the law!

Rasanak faked a shocked expression, which was met by one of Luca's common eye rolls.

Luca: Hey, I'm serious! I wouldn't do it normally, but this is to protect the Chancellor's life...

Rasanak smiled.

Rasanak: Yeah, I know. ^_^

Luca: The real question is, how do we get there? It's not exactly close to us, afterall. I don't see any Air Taxis anywhere...

Rasanak looked around. Normally the sky was full of Air Taxis, but he too saw nothing even resembling a taxi anywhere nearby.

Rasanak: Hmm...we need to rent a car, I think. I know of a good place near the desert...it's on the outskirts of the city. It'll take at least a couple of hours to get there by Hover Bus, but I'm sure they'll have something for us.

Luca nodded in agreement.

Luca: Okay, let's go!
Well it seems like I'll have to post my question here to get it noticable. When I get the answer we can delete it all and move on.

Have the attacks James talked about in the sign-up already happened and everyone's ignoring it, or are they to occur sometime later in the game? For Xeshiur's sake, I hope they're in the future rather than the past.
If you read my last post (or the one before, I don't remember) you'll see that the attacks in Oleron have indeed occurred. But they aren't necessarily the only attacks. However, they are the catalyst for increased tensions between Oleron and Verdun.

Luca looked up and saw that the sky above was deep crimson. The clouds were stretching over the horizon, as if to grasp the world like the palm of a hand.

He could hear shrill screams, too. As he looked around, he saw many figures frantically running in all directions. He couldn't see their faces, though. They were all faceless.

Some were bent down on their knees, screaming for mercy. Others were cradling smaller, lifeless figures in their arms. And others still were just standing there, looking up at the sky...crying and screaming desperately, as if to call for urgent help.

The world was blurry and Luca couldn't make out very much. His surroundings looked vaguely familiar, as if he'd seen them before. But now, the once beautiful white buildings were black with ash and were engulfed in flames.

Luca held his hands over his ears and fell to the ground. The screams were becoming louder. He couldn't stand it. They were so loud, that they made his entire body shiver.

And then, it stopped.

He opened his eyes and saw Rasanak leaning over him, his eyes welling with tears.

Rasnak: Luca!!! You're alright!! Say something!

Luca's eyes rolled around in their sockets slowly. He wasn't sure if this was a dream or if he was really awake.

He could hear the rumble of heavy vehicles passing nearby. And he could smell very faint industrial fumes.

Luca: Rasanak...what's going on?

Rasanak lifted Luca's head a little. He reached into his backpack and produced a small glass goblet. The goblet was filled with a glowing red liquid.

Rasanak: Luca, here...drink up...

Luca raised his head a little further and drank from the goblet's cool glass rim. The red liquid tasted strange. It didn't taste like a specific flavour...more like an experience in time. It tasted like a happy memory...

Luca spluttered a little and blinked. Now he was wide awake.

Rasanak: Hey! You gave me quite a fright there, buddy. You feel okay?

Luca nodded.

Rasanak: Heh, good. Lucky I brought some Regen with me. Didn't think I'd need it, but it's always good to be ready for emergencies...

Luca stood up shakily. Rasanak held him around the waist, so as not to let him fall over.

Luca: Rasanak...

Rasanak: Yeah?

Luca looked directly at Rasanak. His eyes looked different than before, like he'd seen a ghost.

Luca: We have to get to that Air Hockey game quickly...we don't have much time.

Rasanak scratched his head.

Rasanak: Not much time, eh? Why do you say that? Plenty of time 'till the game starts...

Luca: No, not much time...we have to get there as soon as we can. I'll explain it to you on the way...

Real leapt at the giant beast, but was pummeled down to the dusty soil. Angrily, he tried satbbing the imp king, but failed as many times as he tried. It wasn't as easy as Real suspected.

Real: C'mon ya giant booger. I'll take you out.

The imp laughed.

King Imp: Hahahahaha! Little man is funny. He'll also be dead in a moment.

Real: Why don't you put your fists where your mouth is? Oh wait. My fists go there.

Real jumped at the imp's face and slammed a knuckle into it's jaw. A slight cracking sound like a breaking bone was heard throughout the woods. The imp cried out in pain. He swung his newly born tail that grew with his transformation and tripped Real into a tree.

Real rubbed his head and felt dazed. What a fight. He felt that he was a goner too. Then that tail came back. Real quickly made haste and picked up Ragnarok once again. Swinging the mighty sword, he chopped off the beast's tail and it flew to the side of the battlefield, flopping about like a chicken with no head.

Real put a hand to his mouth.

Real: Oops. Was that your tail? I'm sorry.

The King imp was still crying out in pain at the fresh wound made by the slice of Real's falchion. He took leaves off some branches and covered the open wound that pitifully continued to bleed upon the soil. The imp monster looked up from his wound and glared at Real.

King Imp: You insensative fool! I was going to kill you quick so you felt no pain. Now you shall die slowly, the agony within winding around you like a snake coiling around it's prey. Feel my wrath, mortal!

The imp lunged at Real, but Real was able to easily dodge. A few side steps and Real was able to dodge anything the imp lay out. The battle soon seemed to be Real's favor. He skipped about smiling a the imp began to sweat and become even more agressive. His wound irritated him and that just brought out his mood even more so.

Real dodged another swing of the imp's hands.

King Imp: You coward. Stand still.

Real jumped into a tree and laughed.

Real: Haha. I don't think so.

King Imp: Grrr... why you little... I'll teach you some respect!

Suddenly, the monster lashed out his tongue, taking out the branch that Real stood on. Real fell to the ground in a rush. He rubbed his head and looked up. His vision was blurred from the drop.

Real: Whoa.

King Imp: And now ladies and gents, the final touch. Raaa... RAGH!

He shot a beam from his eyes sending Real straight through the tree behind him. You could suppose that took Real out for the battle. Luckily for Real, the imp monster was too into dancing about happily in a victorious way.

King Imp: Take that, slimeball. Haha!

Just then, guess who awoke. That's right. Gersh did. He stood up and looked about. He rubbed his head and picked up his massive club and lodged it onto his shoulder. He took a look at his surroundings. The burning plants. The broken rocks and trees. The giant monster that was laughing at the limp body of Real's. That's when it hit Gersh that Real was in trouble.

Gersh: Real!

The imp heard that and turned to investigate the scene. Gersh quickly hid and he barely made it from the vision of the imp. Luckily imps don't have the best of eyes. The imp master turned back and laughed at the limp Real as if he was his favorite TV show. Gersh slowly rose from his position and walked over to a tree and hid behind it. He did the same with another. And another. He was carefully getting closer to the imp monster to bonk him on the head. Maybe, just maybe, he could hit the beast hard enough to knock him unconscious.

The closer he got, the more nervous. It wasn't in a lith's blood to walk about and smack giant man-eating monsters on the head with a club. He wasn't even suppose to fight those imps. Lithes were suppose to be peaceful creatures and not fight. Well, Gersh was being stupid and disobeyed the lith laws. And trust me on this one. That's pretty amazing that a lith (especially Gersh) would go off and break the rules of all that is lith. It's practically like breaking the laws of physics. And you can guess that doesn't happen everyday.

Gersh lifted his club off his shoulder as soon as he made it to the rock that was the closest to the imp monster. Clamping the club's hilt in his mouth and climbed the tall rock (well, it was tall for him. Maybe just the size of an average human). He sometimes slipped, but regained position just as fast. The imp was too into his chuckling at small defenseless creatures to notice the lith with a club in his mouth climbing the boulder behind him.

Gersh: Easy does it. Easy. Easy...

Gersh slipped at the top and this time, he wasn't silent about it. He flung back from the weight of the club and flew into a tree screaming.

Gersh: Not easy!

That got the imp monster's attention and the large green beast lifted the rock that Gersh was climbing. That's when it spotted Gersh, the small little lith with a massive killer club. Gersh just grinned at the big glob of imp.

Gersh: So much for element of surprise.

the imp grinned and maybe even laughed a moment, but snatched up Gersh just as quickly. He lifted his arm behind him and brought it forth, flinging the lith far over to where Real lay unconscious, or shall we say, dead in the point of view to the stupid imp monster.

Gersh carefully got up and looked at the imp monster that was running towards him. The imp monster now saw that Real was breathing and quite alive. This angered him and imp powered up his eye beam. Gersh ran away from Real for Real coulded gurd himself. The imp followed the small brown fuzzy creature.

King Imp: Come here, little lith. I just wanna show you something. Come here.

Gersh didn't listen and instead ran faster than he had ever before. He ran back to his spot where he left the club, picked it up and turned towards the charging monster. Gersh waited. He waited 'til it came closer. Then, at the right time, Gersh jumped into the air and slammed his club down on the imp king's head. The greast leader collapsed and the land shook.

Gersh shook as well even if he landed on the ground seconds after the quake was over. Gersh grinned at the fallen beast and threw his club aside. He ran over to the unconscious Real and slapped his face, pouring water on him that was from the nearby stream.

Real blinked and rubbed his eyes to clear his vision even though it only made it worse. Soon he was able to see Gersh standing over him.

Real: Gersh... your awake.

Gersh: Yeah. Gersh awake. You get knocked out in battle.

Real: Did we win?

Gersh shook his head, his rabbit-like ears flowing in the breeze he caused himself.

Gersh: Yes. We win.

Gersh grinned. Real did also, even if he felt he couldn't move.

Real: Good.

He managed to say.

But the troubles weren't over yet. Real's eyes lit up all of a sudden and Gersh turned to his the imp, healthy as ever except for the huge crack in his head. Blood dripped all the way down his body in a stream of crimson life.

King Imp: You stupid fools! I'm not defeated that easy! Now you shall both suffer! And you little lith. Your the first one to go. For doing this to my beautiful face!

The Imp king pointed to the wound on his forehead.

King Imp: Prepare... TO MEET YOUR DEMISE!

The imp king started up his eye beam. Gersh and Real were powerless to stop it. Gersh's lub was far away and he wouldn't get it in time. They were doomed.

Bang, Bang, Bang!

Xeshiur: .....uhhhh... Whaa...?

Bang, Bang, Bang!

The door to his hut was being struck by something! Was it a monster? Enemies? Was it hailing?

Ibs: Xeshiur, are you there? Open up!

Bah, it's just Ibs, Xeshiur reailzed. He shook his head, and rolled back onto the hammock where he was resting. That buck he carved was more work than expected.

Ibs is a quite absent-minded elf living in Almaran. He left Oleron in search of a supposed hidden Halbreed fortune many years ago. Xehsiur and the other Halbreed, ironically, have never heard of this fortune before Ibs's arrival. Of course, he still hasn't found it. But through the years Ibs has befriended Xeshiur despite the lack of honor he's sure wafts from him.

Ibs: Xeshiur, come out! It's important!

Xeshiur ignored him. Ibs's idea of important is finding sticks on the ground that "surely somehow point to the treasure," or "suspicious" dirt mounds that suggest the treasure is in the sky.

Ibs: Xeshiur, it's the Humes! They've attacked!

Xeshiur jumped at this, and landed in a pile beneath the swinging hammock. He fought to stand up, got tangled in the hammock, and he ended up pulling the ropes from the ends of the walls. Neat little holes formed in the walls the ropes were nailed to.

Xeshiur sighed. He opened the door, Saber in hand, prepared for the advanced fire of the Humes, Halbreed shouting, falling, and running.

But the only thing outside his door was Ibs. He was looking at one of the new holes in the wall, half-smirking.

Ibs: Lose your balance again?

Xeshiur: Where are the Humes?

Ibs: Humes? Who said anything about Humes?

Xeshiur: Grrr... YOU did!

Ibs: I did? Oh, yes, I did.

Ibs stood there, clearly entertained.

Xeshiur: Well???

Ibs: Well what?

At this, Xeshiur picked Ibs up by his throat with one paw and pointed The Saber at him with the other.

Xeshiur: I am not enjoying this game, elf. Tell me, NOW!

ZZZZAAAAP!!!

Ibs sparked Xeshiur with a weak version of his lightning spell. Still, it was enough to make Xeshiur drop him, stunned. Ibs landed on his knees, gasping. After a second he stood up chuckling.

Ibs: Calm down, you beastly.... beast, and let me tell you. There are no Humes here. At least not yet. But who knows, with their techno-gizmobob thingys, they could, I don't know, beam o'er here and make everything metal anytime. No. I came 'ere to tell you that the Humes attacked Oleron. Or, at least that's what everyone's saying. I figured you wouldn't know, what with your antisocial lifestyle. Hey, how's your hammock?

Xeshiur: The Humes, they attacked? And your homeland, no less! What do you plan to do?

Ibs: Quite possibly the same thing I've been doing for years: searching for this elusive treasure. Hey, you have any idea where it is, 'cause I just realized what with you being a Halbreed and the treasure being Halbreed treasure that maybe just maybe you might have directions implanted into your instincts that I could extract with a new spell I been workin' on, and then you'll get a half of the treasure that you could use to buy the antidotes to cure the side effects from the the spell but I wouldn't worry if I were-

SLAM! Xeshiur shut the door. So the Humes were starting again...

Came a muffled voice from behind the door:

Ibs: Well, just think about it! I'll see you later? Xeshiur, you hear me? Hey, Xeesh!

But Xeshiur wasn't listening. The Humes... attacking... again.

Excellent, Xeshiur thought... Excellent...

Zaius woke from his peaceful slumber. He let himself lay there, eyes open, for a short while. He continued by rolling comfortably out of the bed, which was made of a wood frame, padded with hay, and covered with a thick blanket. Looking out a small window he saw that the sun was about a quarter young, and an uncomfortable feeling in his stomach let him know that he was hungry. Through the window, he could see the water far, far off in the horizon. He stepped away from the window and walked over to the "shop" portion of his humble home. It was over here that he picked up a hand crafted spear, and a basket. As he had collected these things, he made his way out of the door and to take a long walk down to the shore...

-=Time Elapse=-

Zaius had finally reached the ocean. By now the sun was half way through its day long lifespan. He set the basket down upon the warm sand, and with his spear, waded out slowly into the water. Such beautiful water it was. Clear as glass. Fresh. Blue...

Zaius stopped in the water, it was now up to about his knees. Though it may not seem too deep, one must keep in mind a Halbreed's size. Zaius looked calmly down at the water. Down where it was darker, he could see several dark shadows moving around. He cleared his mind and concentrated his sight. Slowly, but surely, his vision sharpened as it pierced through the depths of the water; while at the same time, his other senses became slightly dulled as his vision increased.* Now he could more than clearly see what were the shadows before. Medium sized, fish-like, creatures swam around Zaius' legs without fear. He could see their gills opening and closing as the creatures breathed; and their body throb as their heart beat. Without further hesitation, Zaius lifted his spear high overhead with the tip down, still keeping an eye down on the water... In one fluent motion, he brought the spear down through the water. Lifting it back out, he had impaled one of the creatures upon it.

He did this a few more times, and went back to shore with about seven of the creatures kabobbed on his spear (his senses now back to normal). He removed each one and placed them in the basket. Then he dipped his spear in the water, as the blood from the creatures tainted what was one so pure.

He picked up the basket, and began to head back when he saw someone semi-playfully walking down the shoreline. As soon as the silhuoette faded, he could easily see it was his friend Linea...

Linea: Zaius! ^_^!

Linea, at sight of Zaius, began to run towards him; grabbing him in a friendly hug upon impact.

Zaius: Merry meet, once again..

Linea: I told you I'd see you again!

Zaius: And you caught me by suprise even. I did not expect to see you here.

Linea: I just felt like talk a walk. ^_^

Zaius: Did you enjoy yourself?

Linea: Mm-hmm! Very much so, and such a great way to end the walk as well.

Still in a loose hug with Zaius she turned her head towards the water, and saw the reddish tint in the shallows.. A slight feeling of sadness came over her.

Linea: Hungry? I assume..

Zaius: Yes. What I have caught is in this basket.

Linea: I see..

She couldn't help but feel bad. She understood that things needed to die in order for something else to survive, she too had done some hunting in her life, but she never liked the sight of what was, is, or could be... death..

Zaius: I understand your silence. Let us go back.

Linea nodded her head and let herself out of the hug as the two walked back to Thira Town...

Ami was filled with hate. Unchained, unbounded hate, unfocused and confused. The Meridion bombing had set her off, pushed her emotions over the edge. Her fear for hume technology had turned into a deep anger... But she knew that through hate only came hurt and suffering. She clenched her teeth, tensed up, and then released. Amidriena knew that the Humes were not to blame... It was the ones in charge who did such deeds, she was sure of it. She took a few deep breaths, and then set the airship down, a few miles east of Outpost 41. It was visible in the distance, but she didn't feel like being with others right now.. She needed some time to think. Ami opened the airship's hatch, and walked out, standing on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the beach, and the ocean. The setting sun smiled a warm array of light down on her, as she looked over the horizon, towards Verdun...

Ami: At least I got those errands done... But what lies ahead? Will there be more bombings? And if so, who's next? And why?

Ami sighed, and looked down, her gaze catching the Azure calm of the sea. Perhaps it was time to see it for herself. The one continent she had always avoided... Verdun. Hume territory. She looked back up, and squinted at the skyline. In the far distance, She could make out the outline of the landmass...

Lacroix reached the capital, and stood stock still in amazement. Meridion, or the one he vaguely remembered, had been very different to this city. He wandered in and around, trying to get a feel for the place. He ignored the jeers thrown his way, and ignored the shoves. For no reason however, would ignore the three elves that had a Hume cornered in an alleyway. Nor would he ignore the crowd that had gathered to watch. They were all elves. Despite that he was an elf, and didn't give a damn about anybody else, Lacroix detested racism of any kind. And shouldered his way through the crowd, no mean feat for someone of his lithe frame, and stalked into the circle left bare. The tallest elf was brandishing a knife, and shouting to the crowd how the Hume's were at fault, how they had attacked the elves, how they were evil bastards, degenerates. The crowd roared its approval, and with a grim smile, the elf turned and slashed down at the cornered Hume. The blow never connected.

The Hume swung his arm up, intercepting the knife swing in mid flight. The Hume twisted his arm around and disarmed the elf, showing him his own steel. Most of the crowd missed what had happened, and only saw the Hume confront the elf with a knife. The mood quickly went from ugly to bloodthirsty. They pressed forward, Lacroix also carried forward by the press.

The Hume back further into the alley, trying to avoid the rush. Lacroix was shoved forward along with the original three elves. He rolled, coming up behind the Hume. The three elves on the other side smiled, sure that Lacroix would take the man from behind. Instead, when they advanced, Lacroix's knife shot over the man's shoulder, taking the lead elf's throat out. Lacroix shoved the man behind him, and spoke to the shocked crowd.

Lacroix: Ah, the great unwashed. The soapbox orators that get flushed along with the tides of war. You're pathetic. You seek only to vent your anger. Do you even know who caused the attacks? No. Yet you seek to ravage the uninvolved, the unharming. Why? Because you lack courage. Because you lack intelligence. And for what? A single death. Go home people. You have no place here.

The crowd drops back, mollified, until they notice the human has escaped. They surge forward, swarming over Lacroix like a pack of dogs.

Trying not to kill too many, Lacroix drops to the ground and slices upwards, rewarded with a scream of pain. And flips forward onto his feet and spins, slashing outwards. He leaps backwards, running after the Hume. Knocking over stalls and bumping into other elves, the pursuit quickly loses the agile elf. Lacroix, drawn and weary by this encounter with his own kind, reaches the edge of the city and stops. He turns away, knowing he cannot return to such a cesspool. As he walks off down the road, he hears a voice hissing at him. The man he saved eariler.

Man: Hey thanks! You saved my life!

Lacroix: Think nothing of it. There was no way I could let that happen.

Man: Still, you saved me, and I owe you. My name's Davien. Don't you dare call me Dave though.

Lacroix: I am Lacroix. Believe me, I would be in no way so...informal as to call you by such a pathetic nickname.

Davien: Anyway, so why'd you do it?

Lacroix: Because I had n other choice. I have only recently come to this city, and I needed to find out the, well, aura I guess you could say, surrounding the place. I found it unsatisfactory. Besides, these attacks interest me. I was unaware such things were possible.

Davien: What, you been in the desert the last 40 years?

Lacroix: A little longer then that.

Davien: Oh... That explains some things. Anyway, I'm going back to Verdun. I have my own airship, it's hidden away in an old ruin some distance from here. You want to come with me.

Lacroix thinks it over once, before nodding his acceptance.

Lacroix: Convenient, that you have your own ship. I doubt either of us could pay for transport after that. How good is your ship.

Davien: One of the best around. Used for some serious flying, around all sorts of situations. She's armed, and fast. Occasionally useful when engaging in...commerce.

Lacroix smiles knowingly, but says nothing. Noting his reaction, Davien lightens up even more.

Davien: I've flown just about everywhere, and seen just about everything. A ship of that quality had to have a decent name, so I called her Dragonwing.
Lacroix: Apt, I'm sure.

It was midafternoon in Windhyte Village. A crowd was gathering at the village square. Atop a crude podium was Xeshiur, ranting and raving. Ibs was standing next to him, not a part of this but enjoying himself nonetheless. Obviously, his rants were going unnoticed. A crowd of curious Halbreed were beneath him.

Xeshiur: Fellow Halbreed! Listen! Decades ago, the Humes dared to challenge us, and with their cursed technology forced us back to one island! One, out of seven! Why we gave up was beyond me then, but now I realize the shame of the truth: We were weak!

Now, the greedy Humes are moving on to the Elfin homeland. These weak-bodied gasthlas*wish to destroy the beautiful scenery and peace of Oleron! We cannot stay here and allow them to do this to our planet! We fought before, and lost, but where we faltered before we will succeed! We now know of their technology! We are prepared!

Halbreed 1: What chance do we have of winning a battle against them? Their technology is far greater than we can imagine!

Xeshiur: What we lack in fake weaponry will be overcome by our instincts. Our preparation! Our sheer strength! We will have also the element of suprise! The Humes will never know what hit them.

Halbreed 2: How can we trust you, Xeshiur, when you yourself ran from the battle?

Crowd: Yeah!

These words stung Xeshiur deeply, but he refused to let it show. The Humes had to pay for what they did, and for what they are about to do.

Xeshiur: Indeed, I did run. As a child, I... was untrained, unprepared... I was weak and frightened. But now I am a force to be reckoned with!

These were met with scoffs and unbelieving shouts from the crowd. In fact, people were actually starting to throw things at Xeshiur!

Halbreed 3: Prove it! We don't believe you!!

Xeshiur closed his eyes for several seconds... People stopped throwing things and waited to see what he was doing...

keeeeeEEEEEEEEEROOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!

Xeshiur's Howl Attack! Everyone recoiled from the ear-splitting blast. A few Halbreed started bleeding from the ears!

Xeshiur: If you believe that is enough to earn your allegiance, then you are horribly mistaken.

And with one swift movement, Xeshiur removed The Saber from its sheath, swung it over his head and into the air. The Halbreed who were still conscious looked up, beginning to doubt their safety. Xeshiur closed his eyes again, and to the Halbreed's amazement, The Saber stopped in midair, turned horizontal, with the sharp edge facing the crowd. It hung there for a few a seconds, but suddenly...

SSHHHHHHHHEEEEEW!!!!

The Saber moved forward with lightning speed, spinning boomerang-style, towards an abandoned hut some fifty feet away. A cloud of dust appeared, and when it settled, the hut was a pile of splintered wood, and The Saber was returned to Xeshiur's hand.

Ibs: That sure wasn't the smartest way to prove yourself, but... eh.

Xeshiur: Quiet. Actions are far more superior in getting attention than trivial words are.

Ibs: Y'know, Xeesh, one of these days I'm gonna end up puttin' a spell on you that'll make you at least a little bit nicer.

Xeshiur sighed. He didn't have time for this, but it was obviously important, at least to his friend.

Xeshiur: Ibs, I am sorry. However, being nice is not my top priority at this moment. The Humes are wreaking havoc on Oleron!

Ibs: But no one even knows for sure, Xeesh! It's just what most people think. I say wait a while, and get more information from friends overseas.

Xeshiur: Grrr.... You can wait. I have no time! We must organize our powers as soon as Halbreedly possible!

Xeshiur turned back to the crowd, who the whole time had been staring at Xeshiur's back. They were frightened by Xeshiur, but didn't want to run away like cowards.

Xeshiur: Listen to me! If we are ever going to defeat the Humes once and for all, the time to organize an army is NOW!

Cheers rose from the crowd, and several Halbreed males ran off to their huts, gathering their armor and weapons. Xeshiur began to step down, to greet the remaining crowd. Ibs grabbed one of his massive arms.

Ibs: You're a fool, Xeshiur! You don't know what you're doing! The Humes are far too advanced, and you know it.

Xeshiur shook his him free, sending Ibs flying several feet in front of him.

Xeshiur: Am I a fool? Perhaps. But you, my friend, are a coward.

And with that, Xeshiur disappeared into the crowd.

Back at Thira Town, Zaius and Linea return, entering Zaius' home once again. Upon entering, Zaius set the spear right inside, leaning it up against a wall. Linea went ahead and took a seat in a chair, which, humorously, was to big for her as it was made custom for Zaius, by Zaius. He turned around and let out a soft chuckle as the sight. Linea smiled just as soft. Zaius set the basket on the table behind her and removed the lid. Wearily, Linea peered inside. Suprisingly, she looked slightly happy this time.

Linea: You never told me you caught Sethes*! Those taste great. My favorite underwater animal to eat.

Zaius: Well you should have asked..

He said half jokingly.

Zaius: I have more than enough for myself. Would you like some?

Linea was not so troubled by the sight of the Sethes. The fact that they are one of her favorite hings pushed those thoughts away.

Linea: No thanks. You're a big Halbreed, you need your food. ^_^

Zaius smiled.

Zaius: Are you sure?

Linea: Positive!

Time passed as Zaius fryed the Sethes, and ate them while carrying on a nice conversation with Linea. By the time he was done, nothing but the cartilage frames was left on the tray Zaius ate off of. He disposed of the cartilage in the fire and washed off his tray, and returned to the table, but remained standing.

Linea: Well I better get going.

Zaius: As always, it was great seeing you.

Linea nodded her head happily. They both then made their way towards the door, which Zaius opened.

Zaius: And as always, you are welcome back any time.

Linea: And "as always", you know I will come back. ^_^

Zaius: Until we meet again, Linea..

Linea: Fairwell, Zaius.

Linea turned and walked out in to the suprisingly busy roads of Thira Town. He quickly lost visual of Linea..

Zaius: This is odd.. The roads are never busy at this time of the day.

Zaius walked out in the bustling crowds of people, being greeted by just about everyone as the passed by in all directions. Finally, he saw one of his good friends, Cornelius. Quickly, he jogged over to him..

Zaius: Cornelius! What is with all the people?

Cornelius: Hello Zaius.. Nothing is really going on here.

Zaius: These roads have never been so full at this time of day.

Cornelius: I realized that as well. I found it odd, but everybody is just getting out of their homes and going to the local taverns and shops.

Zaius: Odd indeed...

Cornelius: I saw Linea over there in the crowd a few moments ago.

Zaius: I know. She was over with me, and she left as I did..

Cornelius: Ah, I should have figured knowing you two.

Zaius: I know not what you mean.

Cornelius: You know, for as wise as you are, Zaius, you sure can't see what's right in front of you.

Zaius let out an irritated sigh

Zaius: We're just good friends, just like we have always been.

Cornelius: Ok, Zaius, if that's what you say. I think the everyone in the whole town knows it. The only people who don't are you two.

As their conversation finished, Zaius looked back at the streets, which were now almost barren except for a few Halbreeds.

Zaius: Very odd...

Cornelius: I wouldn't think much of it, Zaius.

Zaius let out a slight hum, and dismissed himself, returning to his home..

It was night time. Xeshiur stood outside his remote hut, looking at the sky. The full moon illuminated his face, and a cool breeze swept lightly over his body. The fireplace in his hut flickered and faltered at the wind, so Xeshiur closed the door and strolled down the soft dirt path. The lush trees swayed gently around him. The beautiful night birds were chirping and hooting, flapping their wings, and firing lasers.

Firing lasers?

A beam of bright light shot past Xeshiur and grazed his enormous arm. The hair and think skin burned, and his rippling muscles were melting away. Oh God, Xeshiur thought. He could see his own bone!

Around him, dozens of Halbreed were screaming and running, not running in any direction, just scampering, panicked. One ran straight into Xeshiur in a scared frenzy, knocking him down onto the wooden floor. The fall snapped his exposed arm bone as if it were hollow.

But he had to see what was outside the window. He crawled, despite his mother's pleading and crying. He reached the window and peaked over the edge. His father lay not five feet in front of him. Dead. Butchered. Massacred.

The corpse's head rose, tearing itself from the bloodied threads of what remained of the neck. Meanwhile, a long line of Humes with advanced, peculiar, unrecognizable weapons were marching towards him. No, Xeshiur thought. They were going to kill his father, then him.

Xeshiur returned his gaze to his father's smashed-in head. He watched as the lips formed the words:

"Take The Saber, coward..."

Xeshiur was terrified. Never before had he been so afraid.

"The Saber, you coward..."

He turned away, looking desperately for The Saber, but saw only the barrel of the Humes' weapon.

"The Saber, coward..."

TSEEEEW!!!

Xeshiur: Arrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhh!!!

Xeshiur woke up, and again fell out of his newly repaired hammock. He lay on the floor for several seconds. He was panting horrendously. The dream... for the third time in four nights... so vivid... so... revealing...

Xeshiur took The Saber and headed outside. About a hundred Halbreed were camped outside; the beginnings of the Almaran Army. Plans had only been in progress for hours, but training would begin soon.

Though it was very late, nearly everyone was awake and eager. He had gained many followers in Windhyte Village, and would soon invade Verdun.

Ibs: Hey, Xeesh, that you?

Xeshiur: Yes, Ibs, it is I.

Ibs: So, what do you plan to do?

Xeshiur: These people will be made ready. Then we will invade Verdun to--

Ibs: Not so fast, fur face. You'll need more than a hundred Halbreed to take on the entire Hume race. What about the other cities in Almaran?

Xeshiur: Other... cities?

Ibs rolled his eyes.

Ibs: Duh, the three other cities: the Almaran capital, Antakan City, Aquaduct Village and Th-

Xeshiur: Thira Town, yes I know.

Ibs looked at him.

Ibs: Right... So if you're ever gonna have the slightest bit of hope against the Humes, you're gonna hafta go to other cities and draw them in.

Xeshiur did know this all along, but he didn't want to admit the fact that he would have to return home. He sighed, then faced the Halbreed camped in front of him.

Xeshiur: Fellow Halbreed! In the morning, we leave for Thira Town! We will gain more followers, and together we will make the Humes pay!

This triggered cheers, hoops and hollers from the crowd.

This will work, Xeshiur thought. But still, those dreams...

Zaius lie in his bed, eyes closed, but awake. Thinking about the event that happened earlier. Cornelius said not to mind it, but it was just all too different to be shaken off as normal. Zaius has been at Thira Town for a much longer than Cornelius has. He knows what to expect as normal, and what not to; and what happened earlier was definitley not normal. He still could not make sense of it.

He continued to lie there for a while "thud!" was heard against his door...

It didn't sound like a knock, so he didn't get up just yet, just to make sure there was no one there.. Nothing. Just that one "thud" sound. His curiosity began to boil. First everybody in town was out on the roads, then half a hair later, everyone was off the roads. Now there was this mysterious sound ahainst his door..

He couldn't set it aside. He got up out of his bed and wakled to the door semi-cautiously. Placing his hand on the door handle, he waited for a moment; then opening the door. Pinned to the door by an arrow, was a scroll. Zaius peered outside, noticing that every home had a scroll on its door as well. He looked down the roads, and saw a Halbreed Runner (similar to a mailman) heading out of town. By the way he was dressed, Zaius figured he was from Windhyte Village. He had come a long way...

Zaius pulled the scroll off the door and unrolled it...

Zaius closed his door as he began to read the announcement. It mention a sudden uprising in Windhyte Village... a past coward becoming a great leader... overthrowing the Humes... a Halbreed army...

As he finished the announcement, A cold chill ran up and down Zaius' spine. In all of his life he had never seen or heard of such a thing. The Halbreed are a peaceful race. Such radical actions do not make example of that reputation. He knew the Humes attacked Thira Town decades ago, but even then, the Halbreed did not fight as an army. They fought as a family. A single race. Where they fought to defend, and in self-defense. What this Halbreed Army was planning would just be murder. They would be no better than the Humes were all that time ago...

A knock was heard at the door. Definitely a knock this time. As he was already near the door, he opened it, and Linea stood their in the entrance, holding the scroll she received in her hand, with a look of subtle fear and sadness over her face. Zaius took her hand and lead her inside closing the door behind her. She made her way to Zaius' bed and sat down with her elbows on her knees and her face in her hands. Zaius sat down next to her.

Linea spoke as if she was on the verge of crying...

Linea: This isn't like us...

Once again referring to the fact the the Halbreed are a peaceful race. War is the last thing they want.

Zaius: I know...

There was silence for a moment as Linea began sobbing. Nothing like this had ever happened to her before, and then there is the way just feels about what was, is, or could be... death; and in this case, many would die. She did not live at Thira Town at the time of the Hume attack. She came a year or so later.

After more time. Linea spoke again..

Linea: Y-you're not.. going to f-fight.. Are you?

Zaius exhaled deeply..

Zaius: No. And Yes. I will not join this murderous army... However, if their actions bring the Hume here, and the Hume cannot understand our postion of innocence, I will have no choice. I must defend this town... This race... This Land of Almaran...

Linea understood his position. She leaned into him as she continued sobbing.

Zaius: The announcement said that the army and their leader will be coming here to gain more followers. I encourage you to stay home and rest. I, on the other hand, would like to hear what they have to say.

Linea responded, now putting herself back together.

Linea: You won't join them.. right?

Zaius: I will not. I promise.

Zaius stood up and pick Linea up to a standing position.

Zaius: I want you to go home and get some rest.

Linea nodded, and they walked to the door. Linea exited, no goodbyes this time.. As Zaius looked outside. He could already see a few Halbreeds gathering, and willing to join this army.. Zaius closed the door, and could help but feel sad.

Zaius lie in his bed, eyes closed, but awake...

Rasanak touched the thumbpad on the dashboard of the vehicle. It emitted a soft green glow and within seconds, the engine started. It whirred quietly (and was almost inaudible) under the hood.

The sleek black car pulled out of the Rent-A-Car carpark and began making its way toward the VK-1, the large highway that stretched from the east of Vin Kartia directly to Sky Hockey Island.

As Rasanak drove, Luca was examining the weapons they'd purchased. First, he picked up what looked like a long, suede bag. As he opened one end, he saw a sharp metallic arrowhead.

Rasanak: Hey! Careful, Luca...

Rasanak pointed at the spear's sharp blade.

Rasanak: Sharpest blade you'll ever find. It's got some cool attacks equipped...and a really unique lightning ability.

Luca smiled. Rasanak was always very excited when talking about weaponry.

He carefully slid the spear back into its pouch and pulled out a second pouch that looked somewhat similar. Inside was his own weapon; an Elemental Staff. It was wired to his own DNA and was capable of utilizing various elemental attacks.

Hume had forgotten the art of magic many centuries ago...but technology had always made up for that lack of magical knowledge.

Luca carefully put both weapons on the car's back seat. Then he turned around and watched the road ahead.

The scenery on this particular section of the highway was beautiful. There were large tropical trees, exclusive to Verdun, which formed an archway over much of the highway. And beyond the trees, Luca could see the calm, blue ocean.

Luca reached down and pushed a button on the door. As he did so, the window silently dissappeared. He leaned against the door a little, letting the cool evening breeze ruffle his hair.

Two hours later and the pair were still travelling along the highway. But now, many of the trees had cleared and Luca could see the expansive beach nearby.

In the distance, he could see Vanar Island.

Vanar Island was full of large mineral mines. Many of the working class Hume lived on the island. However, the southern half of the island was a center for tourism. It was a peaceful, quiet place. But not tonight, it seemed...

Luca could hear a distant rumble. It was very quiet; though he could also feel a slight vibration from within the car.

Luca: Rasanak...do you feel that?

Rasanak shook his head.

Rasanak: No...what?

Luca reached into the glove box and pulled out a pair of complementary binoculars; every Rent-A-Car customer was given a pair for sight seeing.

He adjusted the sight carefully, making sure to zoom in on Vanar Island's coastline. And what he saw, he couldn't explain...

Several enormous, black objects were emerging from the ocean. There must have been six or seven of them, by Luca's count. He continued watching intently, hoping to catch a better glimpse of the strange objects.

As they began to rise from the water, he could see them more clearly. They appeared to be vehicles of some kind. Their undersides were raised slightly off the ground, with large wheels underneath.

Luca raised the binoculars a little further and saw another group of the very same vehicles further up on the beach. The vehicles had stopped and didn't seem to be moving at all. However, within moments, the first few vehicles on the beach began to open up...

Luca: Oh...

The top half of the vehicles began to rise up on a series of hydraulic struts. And now, the top half of the vehicles were sitting at a 90 degree angle to the underside. It appeared as though there was something emerging from inside the vehicles themselves.

As Luca zoomed in a little further, he saw it; a series of large, metallic objects was emerging from within the hull of the various machines. The objects looked somewhat like the tip of Rasanak's spear...they tapered off into sharp points at the ends...

Luca: Missiles...

Rasanak: Luca? What's going on out there?

Luca: I thought all this talk of higher security was a joke...but Rasanak...I can see them...

Rasanak: See what?!

Luca: Missle Carriers! They're forming on Vanar Island's beach! Something is going on here...we MUST get to that Sky Hockey game as soon as we can! We have to get the Chancellor and get outta here...

Rasanak nodded and stepped on the accelerator.

Their black car sped along the highway; a highway that was sitting behind a silhouette of black war machines...

Davien crashed through the undergrowth, cursing loudly. Lacroix followed, his graceful movements letting him flow through the bush like it wasn't there. As such, he made a hell of a lot less noise then Davien.

Davien: It's just up here!

Lacroix nods, not trusting himself to speak. Davien looks back at him suspiciously. Lacroix stops, a hurt expression on his face. Davien sighs and continues.

They come to a clearing, off a thin path only discernable by the amount of debris that litters it. Davien was right, a very high quality airship rests there. Davien motions Lacroix up. Lacroix climbs the rope ladder, then retreats to the bow. Davien soon follows, after casting off lines.

Davien: Lacroix! We're off!

Lacroix says nothing, but merely enjoys the feel of the wind, blowing his loose grey hair out, and the sight of the ground disappearing under him. Davien flies off a tangent course to Verdun. Probably to do with whatever is in his cargo hold... Not that smuggling really bothered Lacroix.

The ocean quickly appears, and once out to see, Davien slams the rudder hard, before returning it amidships. Lacroix, shaken slightly by the jolt, ambles down to the quarterdeck to inquire just why that was neccessary.

Lacroix: Were you trying to throw me off, or just having fun?

Davien: Neither. When coming over here, I was chased by an elven ship. My ship was mainly faster, except in broad reach. So I had it tuned. Wanted to try it. Worked out okay, don't you think?

Lacroix: That was okay? I'd hate to see excellent.

Davien: Not a veteran airship rider I see. Well, you will be soon. Then we'll have some real fun! This is just warming up!

Lacroix: Oh joy. At least I don't get air sick.

Davien: We'll see about that...

Lacroix laughs, and walks back to the bow, jumping up on the taff rail, relclining easily despite the buffeting winds. He does however, keep a firm grip on the brightwork.

Early morning...

Xeshiur was kneeling at the edge of a cliff, overlooking the sea. He was alone, about a mile from Windhyte Village and his army. Verdun is that way, Xeshiur thought. His anger rose again, and he howled in rage and agony.

He bowed his head, and saw a small ant hill. Ants were busy crawling in and out of the hill, doing ant things. Xeshiur smiled. His eyes glowed, and he placed a finger next to the hill. The ants stopped, and formed a line next to his finger. Xeshiur dragged his finger along the ground, and the line followed.

Xeshiur sighed.

Xeshiur: Small pleasures... in a cruel world...

CLUNK

A stone bounced off of Xeshiur's back. He turned, and saw only the trail leading back to Windhyte Village. And a large rock. He heard heartbeats, and smelled elf.

Xeshiur: Ibs, I know that you are behind that boulder. If you do not come out by the count of three, I will pick up that boulder and crush you with it. One...

Ibs sprang from the boulder as if it were on fire. He grinned.

Ibs: Aw, Xeesh. You have no sense of humor. That's sad. I'll have to help you with that sometime. Hey how's yer hammock?

Xeshiur looked at him.

Xeshiur: It is... fine. Ibs, did you want something, or were you simply planning to throw pebbles at me?

Ibs: As fun as that would be, no. Actually, I was just wondering if you had really thought this out. I mean, you're talkin' about war here. And, c'mon, look around you.

Xeshiur did. The trees were lush, tall, green, and beautiful. The early morning sun gave a peacful glow to everything. Far in the distance, past the dirt path, were the scenic Kalhyt Mountains. Below them, the tranquil sea threw itself at the sweet shore.

Heaven.

Ibs: This is an awesome place we live in, Xeesh. Do you really wanna tear it apart?

Xeshiur: The Humes already have, friend. Someone has to stop them.

Ibs thought about this.

Ibs: But what about Oleron, or Esperna? Do you even know if they want to fight? Because even with all the Halbreed in Gaia on your side, I'd still place my money on Verdun. No offense.

He quickly added the "No offense," part when he saw Xeshiur clutch The Saber.

Xeshiur: Actually, I have been thinking about that. I will need your cooperation on this.

Ibs: What are you talking about?

Xeshiur recalled the ants. He looked down, and saw them once again doing their little ant errands. He wondered...

Xeshiur stood and looked at Ibs. His eyes once again began to glow. It took a while, but soon enough Ibs was limp, under a trance.

Xeshiur: Perfect. Now Ibs, listen closely. Are you listening?

Ibs: Yes... Xeshiur...

Xeshiur: Good. Now, once we get to Thira Town, you will find some way to get to Esperna and Oleron. You will gather followers in my name. You will organize Elfin and Quart armies, and will begin attacks on Verdun whenever you are ready. Do you understand?

Ibs: Go to... Oleron... Esperna... After Thira Town... Make Elfin/Quart Amry... Attack Verdun when ready...

Xeshiur: Perfect.

Xeshiur turned away, facing the rising sun. It was warm and strengthening.

Ibs: Hey, Xeesh, I came up with this really great idea a while ago... I think. How about, when we get to Thira Town, I find some way to get to Esperna and Oleron, to organize an Elfin/Quart Army against Verdun. We'll attack when ready, then you can join up with us when you're ready. How does that sound?

Xeshiur grinned an evil grin...

Xeshiur: That sounds excellent, my friend. I am amazed you thought of it.

Ibs: Yeah, me too.

Xeshiur began to walk back to Windhyte Village, where his army was waiting to begin the long trip to Thira Town. Ibs followed.

At the edge of the cliff, the ant pile was burning...

Late morning...

The Halbreed Army was nearing Thira Town. Thira Town itself wasn't nearly as large as Windhyte Village. But to a five-year-old Xeshiur, it was a huge metropolis. Xeshiur recognized the familiar trees on the outskirts of the town, and he fought back tears of nostalgia and fear. He didn't know how he would be welcomed back, if he would be at all.

Xeshiur raised his arm, signaling everyone to stop, about 200 feet from the town gate. Two Halbreed were waiting there, though they have not yet noticed the camalflouged Halbreed in the trees.

There was no need for guards to be standing there when I first fled, Xeshiur thought. Why would there be any now?

He turned to the Halbreed and whispered to no one in particular:

Xeshiur: Has Thira Town been informed of our coming?

One Halbreed in the back raised his paw. Judging by his bow and arrows, Xeshiur could tell he was a Halbreed Runner.

Xeshiur: Yes, you. What do you know?

Runner: Me and several others came here earlier and shot messages of what was on people's doors.

Xeshiur: I see. Well, it would seem as though the element of suprise is no longer with us. Runner, you do realize that you and your friends no longer have the trust of me and the army?

Runner: Sir?

Xeshiur: When we go into battle, I expect a certain amount of performance from each and every one of my men. Your lack of respect for the Halbreed Army may cost you your life when we fight. So, to avoid waiting...

SHWEEEEENGGGG!!!

The Runner dropped dead by The Saber. Everbody else looked at Xeshiur, fearful and obedient.

Xeshiur: Now, let us march.

And march they did. Right out of the forest and to the two suprised Halbreed standing guard. Xeshiur walked confidently past them, but one of the guards grabbed his arm.

Guard 1: Sir, who are you, and why do you have such a large group with you?

Xeshiur looked at him, cocked an eyebrow, and looked back at his people. This triggered laughs directed at the guard. Xeshiur quieted them and shook his arm free.

Xeshiur: I am General Xeshiur Quyt, Leader of the Almaran Army. Now, step aside before I order my men to attack. We wish peace on our fellow Halbreed, but resistance will not be met with fear...

The first guard stepped aside, while the other one fled, shouting, "Zaius, they're here!" Xeshiur wondered who in the hell this Zaius was, and whether or not he would be friendly.

The Almaran Army marched into the city. Halbreed everywhere stood and stared. Some looked frightened, some were aggressively happy. Some had blank looks on their faces. Xehsiur stopped.

Forty feet away, stood a hut. Its position in relation to the town was hauntingly familiar. Xeshiur again raised his arm, as the Halbreed again stopped. He walked carefully to the hut.

His hut. His family's hut. But... it had been destroyed... Had someone, some fool built over the burned remains? This idea triggered such immense hatred in Xeshiur that he dropped to his knees, faced the sky and howled in rage.

The hut's door opened. An aging Halbreed, probably about sixty years old, stood in the doorway. He had the look of someone who could be respected, someone you could take advice from.

How could you, Xeshiur thought. You itch-ka!*

Zaius: Hello... May I... help you?

Xeshiur: GrrrrrrROOOOOOOOWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!

In a blinded rage, Xeshiur pounced and tackled the Halbreed...

*Itch-ka - Halbreed curse word, very very cruel.

Finally, Luca and Rasanak arrived at the Sky Hockey Terminal.

The Sky Hockey Terminal was essentially a very large building on the edge of the mainland. As the line of vehicles exited the highway, they would drive through the gates of the terminal and dissappear almost instantly. And then, a moment later, they would reappear on the other side (the other side being the Air Hockey Terminal on Air Hockey Island itself).

After passing through the terminal, Rasanak parked their car in the Sky Hockey Arena's underground carpark, which stretched several miles under Gaia's surface (no doubt to accommodate the millions of Sky Hockey fans).

Rasanak and Luca each made sure to carry their individual weapons as they stepped out of the car.

Luca looked up at the Arena. This was the first time he'd ever attended a Sky Hockey game, even though he wasn't here to watch the game itself.

The Arena was a massive structure. It was shaped somewhat like a giant horseshoe. The crowds sat around the inner layer of the building.

However, in the middle of the horseshoe was a large platform that didn't seem to include any markings at all. Luca found the setup to be quite odd; there was essentially no playing field whatsoever.

Luca: Erm, Rasanak...where is the playing field?

Rasnak laughed to himself quietly.

Luca: What's so funny...?

Rasanak paused and took a pair of binoculars from his bag. He handed them to Luca and pointed straight up.

Rasanak: Look up. :)

Luca looked through the binoculars and pointed them upwards toward the sky. And there he saw it...

A large holographic playing field, which appeared to be centered right above the strange platform inside the Arena itself.

This new discovery only sparked more questions within Luca and provided him with very little answers. Even though he was here for a specific mission, he found himself wanting to learn more about the game of Sky Hockey.

Rasanak: Heh, that's why they call it Sky Hockey, Luca. ;)

Luca grumbled.

Rasanak: Anyway, let's get to business. I have a feeling that all the seats might be full...

Luca looked around. The Ticket Booth had a sign above it saying "No More Seats Available". Luca felt a little worried; how were they going to get in to save Chancellor Hikaru?

Zaius fell down to the ground right inside his doorway with the enraged Halbreed on top of him. The Halbreed let out an angry scoff in Zaius' face. Zaius grabbed the Halbreed's shoulders, and with a low growl pushed to the Halbreed's torso up where Zaius then put his feet to the Halbreed's chest and launched him out the doorway. The Halbreed landed easily on his feet. Zaius' intention wasn't to fight.

Zaius rose from the ground and brushed the dirt off him as the fierce Halbreed approached him quickly once more. They were now standing face to face. No words were exchanged. The Halbreed looked at Zaius with a look as if he was ready to rip his head clean off his shoulders. Zauis, slightly taller than the Halbreed, looked sternly in his eyes.

The army stood on the roads outside Zaius' house, just watching what was going on..

Finally, Zaius spoke...

Zaius: Take who are what you want... and leave.

Zaius stepped out of the tension walking back deeper into his home messing with things on his work bench, almost ignoring the other Halbreed.

Angered, the other Halbreed charged into Zaius' home, slamming his hand down on the bench.

Zaius looked at the hand for a moment, then went back to organizing his tools..

[img]http://www.itsmysite.com/j-otaku/images/Zaius_Avatar.gif[img]Zaius: You attack me. You spite me. You come into my house.... Yet I still don't know who you are.

Xeshiur: I am the leader of the Almaran Army.

Zaius: Even leaders have names...

Xeshiur: Xeshiur...

Despite how furious he was about everything... Zaius' calmness and peaceful resistance disabled Xeshiur to take any charge over the Halbreed...

Xeshiur: And who are you? You who seems to be so wise..

Zaius stopped organizing his tools, and turned to Xeshiur.

Zaius: My name is Zaius... now, take what or who you want. And leave this town.

The name struck Xeshiur. This Halbreed was the one who was alerted of their arrival.

Xeshiur: This town is just as much mine as it is yours. So is this home. I will take everything and everyone.... Even you.

Zaius: So you were a past resident of this town I see.. You even lived in this very same home. How ironic...

Xeshiur: You will join us.

Zaius: I will do no such thing.

Xeshiur: You are either incredibly smart, or unbearably stupid.

Zaius: Take a guess.

Xeshiur became full of rage at this Halbreeds resistance! How dare he live in his town, and in his home. How dare he show so much resistance to fight for this righteous cause. Xeshiur let out a bellowing howl that shot through the air and made all Halbreed cover their ears, but Zaius did not. He winced a bit, but that was all. Xeshiur then spoke. His voice full of blinding anger.

Xeshiur: This is it! I will rally up everyone in this town and I will form this army!! We will attack the Humes with or without you!!! But here this! If the Humes make their way to this town, we will not defend you!!!!

At that, Xeshiur stormed out of them home and called his troops together. Zaius closed the door behind him...

Kallabow sniffed the air. He hadn't gotten far outside of Thira Town, and now he sensed danger. He smelt it. He began heading back

Two hours later...

Kallabow carefully tip-toed into the town. He had few aquaintances, but he knew Zaius well enough. He decided that is where he would go.

Kallabow: What is going on here?

Zaius was still mildly disturbed by the previous event, but he knew Kallabow's voice well.

Zaius: Some boy who used to live here has raised an army to fight the Humes. It's not right.

Kallabow: His name?

Zaius: Xeshiur. Do you know of him?

Kallabow: I've heard the forest whisper of him before, yes.

Kallabow took a moment to think.

Kallabow: He's unusually agressive for a Halbreed. I don't trust him...

Zaius: Who do you trust?

Kallabow: Point. What should we do? Why has he raised this army?

Zaius: Greivances with the Humes.

Kallabow: Argh! The Humes!

Kallabow spit, with rage, onto the ground.

Kallabow: Who doesn't have grievances with the Humes?!

Zaius: We all do. But we cannot beat them.

Kallabow: Still. I've sensed them. I've felt their ever approaching presence in the forest. I've smelt the blood of fallen Halbreed.

Zaius: But what can we do? Go into the forest and hide?

Kallabow: Of course not. We must fight. But we must wait until the time comes. We must train our people to fight, to fight defensively. To fight like Halbreed.

Zaius: But Halbreed aren't soldiers.

Kallabow: We can be. And we have an advantage. We can use the forest. We can teach our people to move swiftly, and leave no trail. To attack without being seen. We can drive the Hume threat out.

Zaius: I think you are also idealistic, as Xeshiur is. But at leats yours makes more sense than a direct assault.

Kallabow: We must start gathering people quickly. Before Xeshiur can get too many of our people. They know and trust you. You must do it. I ill be in the morning mists. I will give the Halbreed army something to slow them down. Maybe even convert a few to our cause...

Zaius: All right. Where can I find?

Kallabow: I will find you.

The Driena skims across the ocean, only a few feet above the surface. It leaves a massive wake, water spraying up and back as the Airship shoots like a bullet across the calm blue. Ami is careful to keep the Airship level, for as fun as skimming across the sea is, it's highly dangerous. An elven airship such as this could shatter from the sudden change of friction when hitting the water. She looked into a pair of binoculars, checking her destination up ahead. The sky was dark, and the sea choppy. Looked like a storm. The last thing Ami wanted was to get caught in a storm in unfamiliar territory. She slows the Driena down, and brings her up to around twenty-five feet above the water. The storm is wide, and she can't see through the haze. Cursing under her breath, Ami decides not to head into the storm. For a storm so large, a detour would take hours. She sighs. Going to Verdun wasn't a good idea in the first place, anyway. She had other things to worry about. Amidriena takes the controls, and spins the Airship around, westward. She might as well head back to Meridion. As the ship turns, she catches a glimpse of an Island, fifteen miles or so away. She looks through her binoculars, and sees a plethora of Hume technology. Massive buildings, and some kind of picture made of light, floating high above the ground. This was of course the Sky Hockey's Holographic field, but Ami had never seen such a thing. She stops the ship, and then accelerates towards the Island. Feeling no need to hold back, Ami pushes the throttle all the way down. The Driena thrusts itself foward, the two thrust-exhaust pipes pushing out masses of energy to propell the sleek chrome ship fowards. The sheer aerodynamics of the ship are astounding, something elves are known well for. Power and durability, while maintaining beauty and lightness. At full speed, the airship took only a few minutes to reach the island.

She swoops the Driena up, as to avoid the shore, and switches the propellers onto full, so the Airship can hover. The thrust-exhaust pipes retract back into the hull of the ship--The last thing Amidriena wanted to do was anger anyone by burning them with the thrust pipes. She found an empty concrete space, and lowered the Driena down, creating a halo of dust around the landing site. The airship touches down, and the engines slow down. They fall to almost silent, producing only a slight hum. Ami takes a deep breath, and gets up out of her chair. She checks her swords are in their sheaths on her belt, and makes sure her crossbow is slung in it's sheath over her back. Ami wasn't really sure what to expect, hostility-wise. She'd never dealt with humes before. Gulping, she opens the hatch. It lowers slowly to the ground, and rests, letting off a tiny hiss of steam from it's pneumatic system. Ami steps out onto the ramp, and walks down. She sees two young male humes there, watching her. They seem to be the only ones around. Everyone else is in the complex. Nervously, Ami walks up to the two, smiling. She extends her hand, and awaits a response.
