Heh ... I'll try to keep up with the rapid pace this time, if I get in. Name: Genevieve (Gen) Mariotta Age: 34 Gender: female Group: The Relief Appearance: http://www.otakuboards.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=525478 Weapon(s): Two small revolvers, and a hidden dagger for close encounters. Bio: Gen has a very personal grudge against one of the Numbers (to be honest I haven't decided which one it was, but I will if two other Numbers do sign up). She was a young woman, barely more than a teenager, when he came into her life and swept her off her feet. She'd never been looked at like that by a man before, and in a whirlwind romance she became intimately involved and fell in love, all in one breath. And what seemed like moments later, she discovered it was all a ruse. He was using her, he used women like her more often than he could count most likely, and he dropped her without a further thought after he'd gotten what he wanted. Gen drew into herself and pined for him. She knew logically that she should get over him, that there was no way he was worth her time and even if he was, that he would never come back. But she couldn't; she was in love, and, worse than that, she was pregnant. She had a little girl nine months later, and named her Alice, treasured her more than anything else in her pathetic life. She wasn't aware that this Number had men working for him, constantly covering his trail so that annoying women wouldn't pop up demanding money in an inconvenient trial. So one morning, she found Alice dead in her crib. It was at that point that Gen pulled her act together and started getting serious. Driven by love but more by hate, she worked her way into the criminal world, subtly making contacts but never identifying herself as ever having been anywhere near the Numbers. Genevieve is her adopted name, and none of her current acquaintances are aware that she ever had any other. She found that she was, indeed, able to take care of herself, and even able to track the movements of the Numbers and the Stefani Organization quite carefully. So when Brody Radley was framed, she knew. She didn't know if he would survive, and if he did, she had no way of being sure that he'd want revenge as much as she did. But he was the first person she'd heard of who would have a reason to go against the Numbers -- most others were silenced quite efficiently. When she heard Brody had been running for two months and was still alive, she contacted him, and they have planned to go after the Numbers since.

RPG Bullets and Drugs: Volatile Mix [Language, sex references]

Rebecca walked into the bar alone, as was her wont, and was relieved at the chance to finally take off the somewhat businesslike but too-warm coat that hid the much more revealing red dress beneath. No woman was required to hide their bodies in a Mafia meeting -- Rebecca sincerely doubted that the men of the group had even considered making this a rule -- but she preferred to, so that others would know that she must be taken seriously in such contexts. Now, however, was not one of those contexts, and Rebecca felt looks on her as she pulled down her hair from the tight bun it had been in to allow it to settle around her shoulders. She spotted someone she recognized at the bar and headed there with a smile on her face. The man turned at her approach and said gruffly, "Ah, Star. I hope the meeting was satisfactory?" Rebecca rolled her eyes and stood on her tiptoes to give the man a peck on the cheek. "Hi to you too, Dad," she said with a smile. He returned it genuinely as he settled onto a bar stool, calling to the bartender. "A scotch on the rocks for me, and a Smirnoff Black for my little girl." "Oh, honestly, Dad, you think that's all I can handle?" Rebecca scoffed. She'd been holding her liquor well since she was fifteen years old, and considered malt beverages a little too girly. "Darling, that's all I want you to handle," Alberto Florio retorted with a laugh. "I'm sure the moment I leave you'll order something hard and straight up, but let me have my illusions for now." Rebecca shook her head but accepted the drink he gave her, eyeing it somewhat distastefully. She also accepted his hug as he stood up, his drink in his hand. "I'm off to the ante room," he said, referring to a side room where some of the Dons customarily relaxed. "Have a good time tonight." "You, too, Dad," she said, smiling after him as he left. As Rebecca turned back to the bar to order something more suitable, she realized that the Russian she'd been flirting with was standing next to her. "Scotch on the rocks," she said to the bartender without blinking -- she did take after her dad, "and you can take this shit back," as she slid the Smirnoff across the bar. Business taken care of, she turned her head to the Russian and smiled. "So we meet again." -

Rebecca listened to most of what was said at the table. She had to admit that the figures could get boring at times, but she forced herself to stay focused on them, knowing it was always at her advantage to be aware of what was going on in the world. Particularly the Mafia world. She couldn't help but notice the man she'd spoken to earlier, though, as he was sitting in her plain view, nearly directly across the table. He had a somewhat glassy expression on his face that occasionally refocused, but more often on the women in the room than the current speaker of the meeting. When she saw him eventually turn his gaze to her, she smiled a little contemptuously, eyes raised slightly, as if to say, I'm not better than the other women in here? She flicked her eyes away quickly, so that he couldn't even completely be sure if the look was intended to him. The person she'd inadvertently looked to was Giovanni, watching her. She could guess from her earlier experience with Marco earlier that he similarly might disapprove of her flirting with someone outside the Sicilian family. She smiled sunnily at him, a marked and complete change from her rather cooler demeanor towards the Russian, before returning her attention to the presenter once more. As informational as all of it was, she was beginning to wish it were all over, if for nothing else to allow for some social activities. -
The Battle Arena is for what's known as "sparring." You and your opponent(s) can assume a different persona, and go up against each other in a battle under certain basic rules. (The rules are usually set up by whoever is asking for the spar, though certain ones are required, like "no godmodding" and such. For more info on that, see the sticky at the top of the forum.) Basically, you and the other battler write out a fight between your two characters. Generally, battles end after a set number of posts, at which point the players ask an unbiased third party to judge the quality of the battle posts. Whoever has higher post quality wins, and gets to "kill" their opponent. Hope that all was clear.

I wasn't sure from your introduction if wizards needed Bincholons to cast spells, or if Bincholons only enhanced the spellcasting ability. If they do indeed need a Bincholon, I'll have to change her bio slightly so she has a Bincholon when she casts her first spell. Name: "Pooka" Pao Age: 13 Class: Wizard Description: with dark brown hair Bio: When Pooka was born, everybody started calling her a "wittle Pooka" in semi-disgusting baby talk, simply because she was such an adorably fat and tiny baby. Now she's known by nothing else, unfortunately enough for her. When Pooka was ten years old, she decided she didn't like the monsters in Somnolent Forest and that she would become a hero to kill all of them off. She was able to procure a small sword from her mother, who had had similar dreams when she was a child, but was so weak she could barely hold it. Even so, Pooka stubbornly continues to drag the sword along, proclaiming to everybody who will listen that one day she knows her "hero powers" will be bestowed upon her so she can righteously attack the monsters in the forest next door. Pooka's family is known to have wizard's blood running somewhere through it, but it hasn't shown up for generations. When Pooka was twelve, both she and her parents were surprised when, in the middle of a fight about bedtime, a gigantic, bulbous red flower grew out of the ground and sprayed her parents with some sort of poison. Pooka then burst into tears and wailed (as anybody who had inadvertently poisoned their parents might be expected to do), upon which her parents were healed. Since then, the Paos have been attempting to convince their daughter of her wizarding ability, but she is in complete denial of it, still dragging her mother's sword everywhere she goes and promising she'll be a great hero someday. Still, she's found out that her covering her ears and yelling to avoid listening to someone else can come in handy, as it invokes her primary spell (see below). Starting Point: Grillin Village Primary Spell: Idunwa Nahearit. When Pooka holds her hands over her ears and screams, a tempestuous wind picks up behind her, aggressively buffetting the target. Can lead to the target's confusion, as well as inflict some physical damage. Secondary Weapon: Her mother's sword, which she generally cannot wield because she is still too weak to pick it up off the ground. Items: one packet of mint, one loaf of bread Spell(s): Anger Flower. The previously mentioned spell that causes a flower to grow out of the ground and spray poison onto its target. Crybaby. The previously mentioned spell that healed her parents of the poison she caused them. She doesn't know of any other spell she has so far. -

OOC: Haha, I hadn't been Baron ... But that works out rather well, actually :). Rebecca turned away with impatience to see one of Merconi's men, Marco. He'd tried to sleep with her several times, she remembered. "Yes?" she said tersely, annoyed at the interruption. "What do you think you're doing?" Marco said, obviously displeased as well. "That's one of them." "He's a man, isn't he?" Rebecca shrugged. "There's men enough in your own family," Marco snapped back. "Oh, honestly, it's not like we were going to go at it on the spot or anything," Rebecca said with a roll of her eyes. "We were just talking. Besides ... I was bored." "Well, there's plenty for you to do besides Merzeskey's men. Go in to the meeting to help keep watch, it's about to start and they could always do with a little extra cover." "I could do with a little extra something else," Rebecca muttered insolently as she turned away. Unfortunately, Marco had a slightly higher position in the family than she did, and she decided she'd better obey his orders just in case he got childish and tried to rat her out later. She entered the room and stood among the other Sicilians, immediately putting on a slightly more demure and respectful face than she'd shown to Marco. There was no help for it, though, when the man she'd spoken to earlier caught her eye to give her what was really the most audacious wink. She replied automatically and in kind, running her tongue along her lips, before turning her attention back to the matter at hand. -

Rebecca's heels clicked purposefully across the lush marble of the now-empty foyer. Having been privy to the sight of Merconi and Merzesky successfully greet each other with no bloodshed, she wanted some fresh air, not to mention to leave the tenseness of the room behind. She stepped out into the cool evening, wondering when the next luxury car would be seen gliding down the long driveway. She would continue to stay in the background, of course, but Rebecca considered it a privilege even to be this close at a meeting of the Mafia gods. She always called them "gods" in her mind, because that's what they were to her: the ones who held the decisions about everything that would occur in the city, including life and death. A man walked out from the same door, one she recognized as having stood next to Merzeskey a few moments before. One of his top bodyguards, no doubt. She smiled at him, his firm jawline, smoky eyes, rich, dark hair. And of course he smiled back. "I did not know that Merconi's women were invited tonight, as well," he said, his accent thick but his voice soft and appealing. Rebecca flicked her hair behind her shoulder, half-insulted. "I'm not one of Merconi's 'women,' unless you're referring to a non-sexual employment," she said, haughtiness evident in her tone. "Excuse me, I don't know how I could have made such a mistake," the other returned, "except perhaps that you are so beautiful that I could not have expected other talents could have been distributed to you as well." The line was cheesy, even a bit clumsy, but Rebecca smiled anyway, at least until her name was barked out by someone else. -

I don't feel you've taken away my job ... but you should PM one of us next time, even if it's your little brother. Anyway, as inti mentioned, please don't double post (or triple post for that matter). If you need to add more onto your last post, feel free to use the Edit option, which is located at the bottom right of each post. And yes, you should start the actual RPG in the Adventure Arena. In addition, the rule you introduced of "no commas and full stops" cannot be introduced to your RPG. OB requires all members to post with good post quality, i.e. correct punctuation, grammar, and capitalization; this rule applies everywhere, and definitely in the Adventure Arena as well. Accordingly, lilkaron, please put more effort into your posts to use correct punctuation, etc. If you have any questions or I was unclear in any way, feel free to PM me or Arcadia. --terra

A couple rules have been broken in this thread that I'd like to point out. Firstly, Pupps47, please do not double post (post twice in a row). That's not allowed at this forum; you can feel free to include your signup information in the first post as well. Also, when you start an RPG, it should have a decently extensive backstory, and a summary of that should be in your Recruitment posts. This RPG has no back story to speak of at the moment, so if you do not add one the Recruitment thread will be closed. Please think of / add a back story as soon as possible. Anyu WhiteWolf, your attitude while offering to help is not particularly positive. Please don't be rude. cesar906, you might want to take your caps lock off next time. Posts at OB should be readable, which means proper grammar, punctuation, and capitalization. All right, I think that's all I've got for now ... Most importantly, please add a back story or this thread will be closed (have I said that already?). :) Welcome to OB. --terra

Ha, I thought it was cool the way they integrated the janitor's real acting career into the show. ... I'm assuming that really was him in The Fugitive, though. Yep, it was. Last week's episode didn't make me die laughing as much as usual, though. But it was still good.

Crystal grinned. "Well, maybe I should start thinking of some ancient eagle lineage that I could 'arguably' be a part of ... because the high-ups at the Bird Dwelling certainly won't be overjoyed at my return." "Oh? Why not?" "Well ..." Crystal tried to think of how to explain the Bird Dwelling dynamics to an outsider. "They run a tight ship, I guess. They don't let clones leave to head down to the ground without a very good reason and as it happens, I left without permission. "Plus, I doubt they'll be overjoyed to see me dropping a panther-clone down on the Island, no offense to you." A sound came from Rena's throat. Something like purring, only violent. "Well, you did have a very good reason to join us on the ground. Surely when they hear about the war they'll understand." "I hope so," Crystal muttered. "If they don't, perhaps I could ... convince them," Rena said, her voice also quiet. Crystal didn't have time to reply as they were fast approaching the island. She lifted one hand in greeting of the lookouts, who were probably peering at her with keen eyes just at that moment, not to mention leaving to get the clones in charge. She wasn't surprised when, moments later, the field at the perimeter of the Island was speckled with figures. She dropped Rena a half-foot from that field a moment later, once again circling to slow her momentum before closing her wings and dropping beside her. It was an intimidating moment, standing surrounded by eagle clones, all with their sharp eyes pinned directly on the two of them. "So Crystal," said one of the Elders sternly, "just where the hell have you been??" Out of the corner of her eye, Crystal noticed Sharpie, halfway between shaking his head and grinning. "Well, a lot has happened," Crystal began. "I'd hope so," the Elder continued. "And I hope you have a good reason for bringing that back, as well." One feathery arm was pointed at Rena. Crystal cringed, looking at Rena and hoping she could stymie her reaction. Though, admittedly, she deserved to be furious. " 'That' saved my life several times," Crystal said, finding her voice, "in battles with the humans on the ground." "So you really left the Dwelling without permission to flit about on the ground," the Elder said, eyes narrowed, completely ignoring her mention of the humans. "Yes, and I'm incredibly glad I did," Crystal shot back, angered into speech by his closedmindedness. "Better than flitting about up here doing nothing while the clones are at war with the humans. Do you realize that? They're our kind too, you know -- yes, even this panther-clone, whose name, by the way, is Rena. Just because we're up here doesn't mean there's not a war going on down there, that other clones are fighting. That's what I'm here for -- to gather bird-clones to join in the battle."
-
Though Crystal would never have predicted the possibility of this, she felt rather secure with the pack of cats following her (or rather Rena, she supposed). They probably had some of the keenest eyes down here, and their claws were definitely something to fear. When they'd reached land, Crystal slowed, as did the cats. She could feel all of them on the alert, ears constantly pricking, listening and looking for any trace of humans. "Are you ready?" she asked Rena. She'd never felt completely comfortable with the panther-clone. Though they were partly human, they were still cat and bird, predator and prey. But that basic animal instinct was come by a more basic bond, that of the clone species. "Bring it," the panther answered with her typical steeliness, and Crystal couldn't help smiling. She circled and, as she came back towards Rena from behind, swooped down slightly with feet outstretched. She knew it probably wasn't a pleasant anticipation in the least, but Rena didn't even flinch as Crystal's half-talons, half-feet curled around her shoulders, lifting her off the ground. The cats all made some sort of uproar which frightened the eagle-clone, but she realized that it was some sort of ... cat ... goodbye, or something, when Rena replied at full volume. Shaking her head slightly, Crystal pumped her wings to gain altitude before catching a thermal current, enabling her to glide along a little easier through the air. Crystal couldn't help but wonder just what the bird leaders of the Island would think of her returning after all this time. And not only that, returning with, well, a cat. But she pushed her thoughts of the future aside, figuring the future would become the present soon enough. "We'll be there pretty quickly, probably less than ten minutes," she said, figuring they may as well converse a little on the way. "This isn't as uncomfortable as I'd thought it would be," was Rena's only reply. Crystal laughed. "Yeah, it can be pretty painless as long as we're careful," she said, referring to Rena's current mode of transportation. "How do you find flying for the first time?" There was a pause as Rena seemed to be taking it all in.

I've never RPed in real life (there's just something really weird about that combination of words), but I've done many online. Though I only started in, like, early July ... I've done a ton since then, including two online ones that are much more in-depth than the type in the Adventure Arena. I'd like to play in real life as well, but very few of my friends (maybe one?) would enjoy it, most of them would just think it's weird. I see why other people view it as odd, and I feel like it'd be odder in real life. Maybe that's because online you can sort of already feel like an anonymous player who can create whatever background and personality you want ... But anyway, I don't find it that strange because I view it basically as collaborative writing. And there ain't nothing wrong with that.

Name: Rebecca Florio Code-name: Star Bio: Rebecca is the only child of one of the Sicilian Mafia gods, Alberto Florio. She'd always been a clever child, but her father had taken care to hide his underground dealings from her since her birth. Unfortunately, when she was twelve, she picked the lock of the back door to the room in a bar where her father was carrying out an assassination. It was a bit more than coincidence; she'd been spying on him. From that point on, she gave Alberto no peace until he agreed to let her into the "family business." She entered the Mafia when she was 21, at the bottom of the ranks like anybody else, refusing to accept any special treatment from her father. She quickly proved herself to her father's partners, and now at 27 she is at a somewhat "medium" height in the ranks. She's known to be quite effective in all her business dealings. Rebecca enjoys her life in the Mafia but also did it partly because she felt it was her duty, as her father's only child. Her real desire is to one day become an actress, possibly even using the connections she's made through the Mafia, and that is the origin of her codename. Her mother died in a non-gang-related car accident when she was three, and her father has no current plans for remarriage. Personailty: Spoiled, but efficient. Shrewd, clever, independent. Sweet but impersonal, as she tends to think she's better than others. Unashamed of using her sexuality to get what she needs, but usually doesn't need to resort to that because she is powerful in her own right. Weapon: brb Description: attachment

I have to say, I don't mind that much that the
"Scouring of the Shire"
part you mentioned is getting cut out. I never really liked that part either. I mean, it made very good sense, and prevented the cookie-cutter too-
happy
ending that probably would've made the books too corny ... But I like corniness myself :p.

Right, hello. So, since you created another thread in the (correct) Recruitment section for this RPG, I'm going to close this one for now. Feel free to start a new one when you feel enough people have signed up. Shugoblade, please re-sign up in the Recruitment thread, sorry about that. Please, please use capitalization and proper grammar, both of you. It makes things about a thousand times easier to read, and their proper usage is one of the rules of OB. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me or Arcadia. Welcome to OB! --terra

Actually, I didn't think that Tolkien's depiction of the relationship between
Aragorn and Arwen
was that well-done in the books at all. Maybe I just missed something, but I didn't see too much interaction between the two, and if my brother hadn't spoiled it for me I think I would've been pretty surprised when that relationship happened at the end. Which is why it wasn't too surprising when they put that whole scene in the first movie with those two characters that's not in the books, I think they wanted to develop that relationship more so it didn't strike people who hadn't read the books as completely random. Oh, and I'm looking forward to ROTK as well, of course.

OOC: Thanks so much for the PM, Lady Katana! And sorry all I haven't posted yet. Blissfully unaware of the meeting among the full-growns, Emma looked over her shoulder somewhat nervously as she padded along in the orchards, the tips of her ears just barely peeking out above the bushes that surrounded her. There was no reason for her to feel guilty in this case, but occasionally she just did. It was probably something of a reflex, since her brothers and sisters had constantly been getting yelled at by their parents for something or another. Satisfied that she was alone, at least for the moment, Emma smiled brightly and hopped a little faster, her red cape just catching the wind and blowing out a bit behind her. It was a beautiful day free of chores for her, and her mother had sent her off to play. So Emma, of course, was out to look for some food. She could see some other Dibbuns already at the berry patch before she arrived, and slowed down her pace and lowered her head a bit accordingly. It was nobody she knew, and she hoped to munch on some berries quietly, without their noticing. It was usually easy for Emma to slip by unnoticed when she wanted to. She was still on the small side, even for her seasons. She could still overhear, though, and inadvertantly pricked up her ears slightly at what the conversation she could hear. Which, ironically enough, seemed to be about eavesdropping. "You were eavesdropping??" "Well, maybe a tiny bit. But -- it wasn't on purpose! I smelled breakfast, I guess their window was open ..." "You're such a typical hare." (Here Emma bristled slightly, and might even have been prompted to say something had she not had so many berries in her mouth.) "Well, I suppose that's a good thing then, since it also allowed me to run over here just as quickly as possible and tell you all about it." "So someone really had a vision from Martin the Warrior? About a war?" At this revelation, Emma couldn't help but make a tiny "eep!", even with her mouth full, and she fell over.

I doubt I'll go see this, but I have to say I'm impressed with the way Disney can come up with movies that actually have a storyline when they're only based off a ride in their park. I think that given with what they started with, an amusement park ride with basically no plot, they're pretty skilled at doing a lot to make the movie versions interesting.

Aw, you guys are lucky. Although I suppose I shouldn't be talking, as I spent the majority of today playing the newly purchased Cube with my brother, and we only have two games :p. My extended family is scattered all over the world so we seldom all meet up, plus our ages are pretty diverse so I don't think there's much we could all play together. I'll be sure to keep all this in mind for the next family reunion, though.

That happened to me once or twice as well, completely out of blind luck (or whatever you might term it as). I'm of the opinion it was probably a glitch in the game, but perhaps somebody else knows better.

Well, I was glad to see the appearance of the Adventure Arena as promised :D. And me, of course. I'm glad I stabbed people in the back ... speaks of how you think of me in real life! Just kidding, just kidding. Anyway, to be honest, this chapter didn't hold my attention as well as the first couple did. I'm not sure why ... logically, this one would be more interesting, as it had a good plot and everything was well-described. I think it was a little difficult for me to see the action as well as in the first few sections; I'm not sure if that's because it's a world of abstractions, or because the first two were a little better-executed. Still, I loved the idea of the attack of the n00bs and you had a ton of really hysterical one-liners :) most of which have been previously highlighted. Please continue writing, this is story is so entertaining! (By the way, I don't know who the girl in my avatar is either. I just can't imagine changing it now.)

So, whee!!! I finally gave in to my intense cravings and bought myself a GameCube, and Double Dash. (And SSX3. Haven't decided what else to get yet.) So I played today. I didn't find it as easy as the 64 version, which was somewhere between refreshing and annoying :p. But it's definitely fun. I'm waiting for my brother to get home so I can play some cooperative, because I think that'll be more fun. I love the look of the game, it's all so freakin' 3D cute. (Though I suppose the 64 version was 3D cute too ...) I don't know, during the opening scenes I was practically cooing at the screen.
