Originally posted by maladjusted I agree that some rapper artists sing/rap about things other than girls, sex, drug, money, I got shot in nine times, etc. but most rap does. If you compare artists that sing about the non-cliche stuff and artists who sing cliche, the artists who sing non-cliche are a pretty small amount.
I beg to differ. I see that is the opposite - most true rappers will not sing about the "bling bling" and "money, cash, and girls;" on the contrary, the number of underground true rappers is greater than the number of "big league," mainstream rappers.
Originally posted by Double_B_Daigo But they are more popular. Oh, and the whole shot nine times thing. Listne, 50 Cent isn't nevre marketed that himself, its his producer. I never saw him say it himself. He really doesn't care about it. So, you can't bomb 50 about that.
Well...I heard him say that in an MTV2 interview conducted by Sway. It was an hour-long segment about his life and rise to fame. But, think about it from a business perspective - 50 Cent is locked in a "rap war" with Ja Rule. One of 50 Cent's "trademarks" is that he is hardcore, straight from the hood. He constantly bashes on Ja Rule for being "soft" and "out of touch." So, why not use the "shot 9 times" thing? In many people's eyes, it makes him seem rough and rowdy, and a lot of people can relate.

Opinion Alert! I had this discussion (well, more like I was so repulsed by what I heard that I stood quiet; 6 vs. 2 is not fun) during my junior retreat 2 years ago. What did I hear? "Oh, my parents say, 'Do not get hammered, but you can drink," and "Well, I know I can control myself and it is something I like to do." All I have to say, for me, is this: Laws are in place for a reason. If you break them, you are committing an illegal act. I do not care if you can "control" it, or it is "every now and then;" until you are of age, you are strictly forbidden from partaking in alcoholic consumption. I make no differentiation between "occasional" and "feverish;" you are, in my eyes, wrong. Now, will I treat you differently? No. If I were your friend, I would do one of three things: Give you massive amount of advice, have simple chats and hang out without alcohol present, or completely ditch you. When you drink alcohol, you are inducing not only harmful effects onto your body, but you also make yourself a hazard to others. Even one beer is enough. You may think you are "ok," but you are not at 100% focus; your reactions slow and your vision blurs. This country would be so much better if there were less morons willing to buy beer for underage kids (that's right, kids), as well as if those same kids would wise up and stop "rebelling." Your life is not nearly as bad as others kids' is so stop giving your parents such a hard time. Sheesh...

Rap vs. Rock - The Never ending, yet extremely retarded, battle. It is funny how some people rag on one or another, yet still listen to it. I mean, if you are going to sit and complain about it, why the heck are you listening to it? Obviously, to be able to bash a genre, you have had to of heard songs in that genre. For the love of [Enter your favorite Deity here], change MTV2/Fuse/VH1/etc or 92.3/107.5/XXX.X station and listen to something else if you hate [Enter your choice hated genre] so damn much! Is it so hard to actually change the channel/station? And please, do not give me the excuse, "Oh, but it is everywhere!!" Umm..yeah..so? No one is gluing headphones to your ears and playing 50 Cent / Creed / Britney Spears / Garth Brooks. *Sighs*

Sick days? What are those? OH! Those days were you get to stay home, right? :p I rarely missed high school. I HATED when it happened. Having Honors/AP classes for four years teaches you something - attendance is key. And the worst part is I missed 40+ days for having appendicitis in my freshman year. I was SO behind when I got back. After that, I think I missed < 10 days in the 3 years after. Not much to do when you are sick, anyway. You feel like garbage, even if you play games or something. So *thumbs down* to sick days. ;)

The Patriots from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Why? - You never see them nor know who they really are - Mysteriously enough, they control everything - They wield so much power, it is sick (play the game and you will see) And the number one reason: - They allow for MGS4 (Check out the MGS3 thread and play the games and you will see...) :D

I am looking forward to the fact that the similarities to the "Devil May Cry" series are uncanny. Guns and swords used as primary weapons? Check. Jumping off building and landing safely? Check. Crazy acrobatic attacks? Check. Dark mysterious evil plot looming over everyone? Check. Romance for the heck of it? Check. :D I cannot wait!

Enter the Matrix. Buggy (NON-intentional for those of you who believe it "mimicked" the Matrix), crappy storyline (Ghost = lame; speaks ONCE or TWICE in Matrix 2), horrible controls (you see that car? Yeah, do not even expect to look forward to driving it), and not that great visuals (car scene looks like a N64 game). But, it sold over a million copies in its first month out. Overrated? I would think so. ;)

I started a Computer Programming and Software Development course on August 5th of this year at Westwood College of Technology. Currently, I am starting basic with...Visual Basic. :p I also have Success Strategies and Computer Applications (Basically, a hands-on version of the "Windows for Dummies" book :p).

I, personally, like both rappers, but prefer Eminem for one simple reason: Lyrics. Put both of them in a freestyle battle and Eminem will tear 50 a new one. Screw popularity, screw the media, screw all the "hype," bring the rappers down to their basic form - the art of rap and flow/freestyle. Basically... Eminem > 50 Cent (w/ respect to lyrics)
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel You can't sue for having to wear a name tag. Give me a break. Lots of schools do this now. It lets them keep track of things, especially in a world where so many people show up to schools that shouldn't be there. Plus if you do something stupid, you can't lie about who you are, I guess. I had to wear a shirt, tie, dress shoes and slacks. No weird hair cuts, no dyed hair, no wallet chains or jewelry or really anything else. I don't know what most of you can even ***** about by comparison. That's only the start of it. It's school, not clown college.
*Gasps* Someone who went through the same thing as me?! :p You go to school to get an education. It is not a fashion show. I usually find that people who complain about the rules are the ones who broke them, inadvertently or not.

Super Mario Bros. 2 - No matter what I did, no matter how many times I did it, I could not beat this game. Heck, most of my NES games were pretty difficult (difficult being the "thing" at that time). Mission: Impossible, Rad Racer, Bubble Bobble - All unbeaten. :P

Buckle down, realize that you MUST complete whatever the assignment is, and just do it. Oh, and turn off all messengers. If anything, go to the library to do your research so A) you will not be tempted to turn on the messengers and B) you cannot visit your favorite sites. Sadly, procastination has fallen upon me time and time again, but, I always manage to accomplish what I need to do in order to go back to doing what I want to do. Thank God college is so much lighter on the homework and days... :D

Time to throw a lightstick rave! :D This site rocks! I make sure to visit every week to check out the new StrongBad email. I have seen all the emails to date (70+?) and each one is hilarious! My favorites are "dragon" (with Trogdor), "Japanese Cartoon", "techno." The toons and specials are good, too. Especially the DVD "King of Town" one where StrongBad makes director comments. :D

I would rewind to 8th grade (I am in college now) and ask out a girl I had the absolute biggest crush on. Or, at the very least, kept in contact with her over the years.
Originally posted by Radaghast They could set it up so they show the show you're watching in it's entirety, then have a block of comercials. That works so you could do something for the ten minutes inbetween the shows, like play a game, or practice and instrument. Do homework perhaps?
But, think of this from a business perspective - if you were to have the entire show run for 20 minutes then have 10 minutes of commercials, would you watch those commercials? Probably not. People watch these commercials because they want to get back to the show. If you showed the entire episode, commercial viewership would drastically decline. I like comedic commercials. One of my favorites would have to be the Volkswagen commercial where the guy jumps in front of the shopping cart to save the Jetta from being hit. Gold... I hate the boring "Lose weight with XXX diet pills" or quickly repeated commercials (same commercial over 4 channels in a 10 minute period = BAH!).

Killer Instinct is an awesome SNES game. I have a friend who, to this day, is obsessed with it. He even has the KI soundtrack! It was a like a 16-bit (or 32? I forget...) Soul Calibur. Orchid's combo's are just wicked - "MASTER COMBO!" would just scream out from the speakers and you knew you were owned. :p Of course there are the other "standard" classics - Super Mario titles, Starfox, F-Zero Roc, Super Mario Kart, DBZ: Hyper Dimension (well, for me), and all the FF titles (FFIII rules).
-
The best cartoons for me had to be any of the ones under the Looney Tunes banner - Yosemite Sam, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, etc, etc. Other notables are... - Mid-90's "Spider-Man" - Mid/Late 90's "Batman" - Dexter's Lab (when it first came out) - Recess (Hey...it is cool...:p)

MGS3: SE is a prequel sequel - now, what that means is it will display the contents of the past, yet "advance" the series, i.e. it may lead into MGS4. Hopefully, that will pick up where MGS2 left off -
The Patriots mystery, Ocelot, Olga's Child, Raiden's future, etc.
As for MGS: Online, well, not much has been mentioned other than that Kojima said it was ready to go but wanted to "spice" it up. It will more than likely be a FPS, but, I have a suspicion third-person will be included but with a more limited view screen (to keep stealth intact...sort of...) And, yes, the OB needs some more MGS fans! :D
-
Actually, from the E3 2003 packet for both MGS3 and MGS:TTS, there was a cutout from the package that allowed for you to construct
Metal Gear REX, a new Metal Gear, and some spare parts for another "vehicle" or whatnot, as well as making one large tank/vehicle that looks like a nuclear missile launcher. An early version of Metal Gear, perhaps?
As for the newest of new, there is a new trailer out as of yesterday. It is from the ECTS show in Britain, I believe. But, most downloads are in crappy quality and your best bet it to wait for Konami to direct link it. But, if you *have* to have it, try this one...worked for me...sound sucks, though (background noise > trailer sound) and visual goes down at about 2:30 into it... Congratulations are in order for the founder of theOtaku.com, Adam, and all the admin's, mod's, and other supporting staff that makes this place so great. Keep up the good work and maybe next time someone will actually say "TheOtaku.com roXX0rs" instead of some text. :p

Turn off the console. Change your clothes. Take a shower. Get some fresh air. Problem solved. :p Seriously, though, I have wrist problems more than my thumbs because I am either posting on another forum, in IM's, in mIRC, or in MW4: Mercs. Using the keyboard/mouse for everything causes pain, but I know why - I do not have cushions or supports for my wrists. *Shrugs* What does not kill me makes me stronger, no? :p Anyway, take some rests after long periods of play and allow your thumbs to rest.

"Zombies Ate My Neighbors." I swear it on anything to be the most frightful thing you will ever put in your Genesis. Mainly because it is such a bad game that you have no other choice but to be scared. :p [EDIT] - *Wonders why he even puts the ":p" emoticon* Ok, ok, it was a good game. I just could not think of any old school scary games off the top of my head... ..but luckily, I have one now! When I first played the original "Mortal Kombat" (~'93...so, when I was 8) some of those finishing moves shocked me - espeically SubZero's skull pull and Scorpion's flamethrower. Now I bask in their greatness even when I play now. :p

Any incarnation of Power Rangers after the original and semi-original (shortly after the original 5 were leaving) is spawned by Evil itself and should be destroyed from all records for ever existing. :p ...Or maybe it was after the second movie came out? Yeah, both of those sound near dead-on. ...Or how about the knockoff shows came out? Beetleborgs, one with some dude as a bug in a bug-like car (I forget...), and (more recently) Powerman Tiga (yes?). Either way, Power Rangers should be long gone from the airwaves. :D

Resident Evil 2 - I mean, if you have seen the remake for RE1, you can pretty much imagine why. That game is still my favorite out of the entire series and a next-generation console upgrade (PSX -> PS2) would simply be fantastic. Improve the graphics and add some bonuses/mini-games and *blam* instant hit. Devil May Cry 2 - Anyone who has played this game and sized it up to its predecessor will know why this should be redone. Bring back the original Dev Team! :D
