1. Thanks everyone, for your help. Oh and Delta, it worked like a charm :animesmil
 2.
I think everyone knows how to pronounce mine. If I could change it, I would. Definitely. What was I thinking, Gold Scorpion? I think it would be cooler with a K instead of a C. And all in caps.
You can change your username if you want, I think. All you have to do is PM one of the admistrators (Dagger or Desbreko).
 3. I use mainly msn. Most of my family is in Gaza or Jordan, and my mom prefers to use yahoo to chat with them (and most of them have yahoo accounts instead of hotrmail). I guess yahoo is easier to use with video and audio, at least when chatting with people so far away. I don't have any my friends added to my yahoo account, but my since mom uses yahoo alot, I end up using it (through her account) to chat with my relatives.
 4. I've always had trouble saving transparent gifs. My images always turn out to be very rough around the edges, even when it's text. What am I doing wrong? Is there a way to keep the edges of my images smooth? This image has a transparent background and it's completely smooth around the edges. I tried to do the same thing and the edges were very rough with mine. I am using photoshop cs2 by the way.
 5. I guess this thread is in response to the recent Danish cartoons. A much more effective response than the rioting that's going on in the middle east.
 6. I think king monkey tried to quote me and messed up his post. Your quotes of king monkey are actually mine. Sorry, I misuesed the word racist, of course not all arabs are muslims. I guess I meant to say 'discriminatory'?
 7.
The cartoonists may depict the religious icon in a disrespectful manner, but the violent Muslims defecate on his name and teachings. How about trying to stop those who actually hurt people, rather than focus your hate on those who hurt your feelings?
I'm not focusing my hate on anyone. I condemn both the cartoons and the ridulous, meaningless riots that some muslims are engaging in the middle east. I am personally shocked that the authorities have let it come this far. I am absolutely disgusted, and I also fear for Danish people who have done nothing wrong. I think there is no excuse whatsoever for the riots going on in the middle east. But I do think muslims have the right to be angry and to protest peacefully. Just because THEY are rioting, that doens't mean the rest of us peacefloving muslims have to take insults lightly. You can't insult the radical muslims at the expense of the peaceful ones. That's not very fair. My mother's friend's daughter, who's 11 or 12 I think is writing a letter to the Danish prime minister. In Toronto, there are peaceful protests. Is there anything wrong with that? It's as though you expect us to bow down to the west as though they're some higher being. I'm not going to support Denmark instead of standing up for my religion and my prophet. I will stand up for my religion, AND protest against the meanignless riots directed at the Danish people. Got a problem with that?
 8.
I've never seen a religion where there has been such a chasm. How can people get two very different meanings from the same book?
It's more like ignoring what our religion says, and giving in to their own raging emotions.
 9.
No, I think we should take away free speech. We should remove it from our social institutions to protect the offended.
Drix, I am in no way against free speech, but those cartoons are not "free speech". They are simply racist, hateful derogatory remarks made about an entire population of people of comprising of 1.2 billion people. Free speech is supposed to serve the purpose of our societies progressing, not regressing. Of course the jews should have spoken out against hitler! That's what real free speech is about. But if you look back to my example, in germany, racist cartoons were being printed about jews, and look at the tragety that resulted from the propogation of racism and lies. Why should these types of racist and untruthful images be tolerated? Why should we tolerate lies? Drix, I am not only standing up for muslims here. I don't think any offensive and or images should be printed about any religious or ethnic group. And drix, I understand how people can be angry with certain Islamic radicals. It's not right to bomb buildings filled with innocent civilians. But people need to understand that these radicals do not make up the majority of muslims. And they certainly aren't following Muhammad's teachings. More cartoons have popped up over the internet, much worse than those in the newspapers. One showing Muhammad raping one of his wives. He never did that, and he was kind and respectful to women. Why should this complete lie be tolerated? It isn't a matter of religion, it's a matter of a human being blamed for a crime he did not commit. What if a girl accused a man of raping her even though he did not? Would you argue that she has the right to "free speech"? The right to blame a man for a crime he did not commit? The right to propogate a lie?
 10. Okay, I think we all agree that rioting, and embassy burnnign is not the appropriate thing to do on the muslim's part. And we all agree the cartoons are racists, offensive, and simply not good taste. I think we should talk about now, wether people should have the right to publish these kinds of cartoons. Many of you have argued for complete free speech. Do you honestly think that free speech means people can spread lies? Those cartoonists, and their newspaper, are a bunch of cowards --spreading lies, and offending muslims under the guise of freedom of speech. When one insults Muhammad, it's a big, big, deal, because not only do muslims love and respect their prophet, they take him as the example of good conduct and behaviour. If one insults, Muhammad, he insults all muslims. When people read these cartoons, some of them actuallty believe them, and eventually, people will hate muslims, they will see them as dangerous, and eventually, people will want to exterminate muslims. The holocaust started out with racist cartoons published in newspapers like these. They spread lies, and caused people to hate Jews, and many people in germany had no problem with jes being exterminated, simply because they believed the lies they were told. So think about it. Do you support ignorance and racism, and those who spread them under the guise of "free speech"?
 11.
If parts of the Muslim world are going to do somthing childish like boycotting all of Denmark, is it surprising that the worlds idiots are going to respond in kind? Just ignore them... they're welcome to their opinion and you're welcome to not give a ****[/FONT'].
It's just that it feels like the wrong thing to do to ignore these images. It's a sign of good character to ignore nasty remarks made at you, but not ones directed at someone else, especially one you care about. I think many of the rioters are doing what they do, because the feels it's actually wrong to remain silent. We are standing up for our prophet. I definitely don't think we should remain silent, or ignore the images. Just because we don't look at the images, it doesn't mean others won't. These images are spreading lies, and many people ignorant of our religion, of what are prophet really was, will see these images and accept them as truth. It's important for muslims to spread the truth about our religion, and standing back while our prophet, our religion and our dignity is being attacked just isn't the right thing to do. We need to make our voices heard (but without resorting to violence of course).
 12. This is so horrible, more and more people are creating their own offensive cartoons, and posting them on the web. They're even worse than the ones in the newspapers.
Several artists (both professional and amateur) have created their own responses to the controversy over the Danish cartoons. Many of the artists expressed their mockery of and disdain for the Muslim world's violent reaction with new Mohammed depictions that are intentionally direspectful and/or obscene, to make a point about freedom of speech.
Now THAT, is childish. And plain unnecessary. Don't these artists realize they are offending all muslims with these images, not just the rioters?
 13. I thread like this was started by ChibiHoreswoman way back in 2004, so I decided to start a new one. What is/are you most painful experience(s)? As for those few who posted in the last thread, I'm sure you've acquired a few more to add to your lists. Not that we're hoping that you did...lol. This is my list from the last thread:
I don't think any of my most painful experiences are too bad, and I can't really decide on just one. So here are several of them: 1. I'm not a very good skater. I've tried it several times as a child and managed to stay on my feet, only falling a few times. However, two years ago, I had the urge to skate since I haven't done so in so many years. It wasn't as easy as it used to be. I almost collided with someone, and after avoiding the collision, I lost balance and fell (SMACK!) on my jaw. Luckily, nothing was broken, but I had the most excruciating pain in my jaw and my entire head. I could barely see because of the pain. My chin also needed a few stitches. 2. I used to play tag with my friends on the climbers during recess as a kid. Once when I was 12, I was stupid enough to play tag on the climbers during winter. All the ladders had a thin sheet of ice on them. I was going down one and I slipped. I managed to hold on, but my shin landed right on the ladder. Very bad bruise. 3. On the same climber, I smacked my head on one of the railings, resulting in a very painful bump. My little sister also once threw a hard toy at my head, and once she threw a remote at my face. 4. I've fallen down the stairs several times. Once, I slipped on a marble one of the kids left on the stairs. I slid down the whole way on my back. My tail bone hurt the most. I was limping for days 5. I have very severe eczema on my palms. I can never wash my hands without applying lotion afterwards. Otherwise, the skin on my palms gets very dry, and sometimes cracks and bleeds. Once when my family went to the beach, my palms got an infection because I played with the sand and it got in the cracks. The skin was inflamed and it hurt a lot when any pressure was applied to it. 6. I was once blowing a balloon up during my older sister?s birthday party. I blew it too much and it finally popped, but not into just a few pieces, into very tiny shreds. This happened while I was blowing it so you can imagine the impact of the explosion in my face. I couldn't open my eyes for 5 minutes. All because of air! 7. Once I had a very severe pain in my lower chest, just under my ribs. I couldn't lie down, I couldn't laugh, or the pain would become excruciating. My mom took me to the hospital and they told me my diaphragm was swollen. After taking 6 ibuprophen pills a day, the pain eventually disappeared. 8. I was once doing long jump, and I had a very bad landing. Something had cracked in my ankles. However, I doubt anything was broken, but to this day, I still get sudden rushes of pain in my ankles while I walk. It also happens to my right leg on my knee joint. Recently, my Achilles heel keeps "locking" for some odd reason, and I can't even bend my ankle. I wonder why I always get this pain in my legs. Whenever I decide to go to the doctor, the X-rays come up with nothing. Meh.
And to add to the list: 9. In elementary school in gym class, we sometimes got to play games sitting on scooters. They were just yellow, plastic squares with four wheels (have any of you ever used them?). The first time I used them, when I was in grade 2, a boy in my class pushed got off his scooter and pushed it really hard towards mine. I was holding onto the side of mine, so his scooter smashed into my index finger. It hurt like hell. My finger turned a horrible blue and green color, and something was seriously wrong with the skin. While the bruise was healing, the skin got more and more saggy, and it eventually ripped off. The skin must have been damage beyond repair. 10. Earlier in January, my brother and I were hanging up Eid-Aladha decorations. I slipped and landed right on my ****** (I don't wanna say it, but you can guess) on the chair I was standing on (the part you lean your back on). I'm a girl, but the pain was excruciating nonetheless (I feel sorry for guys). It was closer to the leg, so I was really hurting my tendon.
 14.
How are the Egyptians any different? We claim they made up their own Gods, but how do we know that the God of any religion today wasn?t at one time made up? If people never question their religion then how will you ever know for sure? What little I have read indicates that many religions were formed because members refused to accept what they were being told and went in search of the truth. Did they find it? I don?t know. But I certainly think people have the right to refuse any aspect of a religion they do not agree with.
Aaaryanna, I was talking from my religious prespective. I believe in my religion, because I believe the Quran from a devine source, and since the Quran claims there is only one God, then I believe that. And I believe anything else the Quran says, because every single verse, in my opinion has divine qualities in it's prose. I don't question whether the Quran is right or wrong, because to me, it has proved itself to be from God. Having said that, why would it be illogical for me to follow the teachings of the Quran if I believe all of it is correct?
Really, there's no chemicals that'll be harmful to you -- nothing less healthy than beef.
If there were sanitation problems God would have commanded people back then to improve the situaion. Besides, why would pigs have been unsanitary but not goats? God says pigs are impure, the way blood or urine is impure. And since recently people have found something in pigs that isn't good for us, I think this might be why. Just because we don't always know why, it doesn't mean we should not follow. We will know the answer eventually, and it's good to try to figure out why.
 15. Weather update: It god cold again. It's really cold and really dry. It it was warm we would have had a slight drizzle of rain, but instead it was a drizzle of very cold and dry snow.
 16.
This reminds me, it is rediculous for a religion to make laws about things like food and activities. If you eat beef, or if you eat pork, your going straight to hell. Almost a laughable belief.
You go straight to hell? Morpheus, God is merciful you know, he wouldn't send you to hell for commiting one sin. In Islam, as long as you believe in the fundamentals of the religion, you have a chance to go to heaven. But you still have a chance to go to hell, if your sins outweigh your good deeds. But even if you do go to hell, there's still a chance to be forgivven and let out eventually. I don't see why people don't have a problem with following man made laws of our governments, and have a problem with following our creator's laws. I know you're athiest Morpheus, so I guess that doesn't apply to you, but when you look at someone who believes their religion is the way of life that God has prescribed for them, why is it laughable if they obey his laws. And you know what, as far as I've seen, all of God's laws are based on what is best for us. You all know, that alcohol is toxic. It'd a poison, and it impairs your thinking. Why is it illogical for God to tell us not to drink it? Gambling causes much more harm than good, and is definitely not a noble way to earn money. As for pork, God states that there is something wrong with that meat. It's unclean, and it has certain chemicals that are not good for us.
Another thing: it is ludicrous to believe that everyone else is going to hell because they don't believe what you believe. If you think this, you are an idiot. There really are no two ways about it. To believe you and those close to you are the chosen ones...
I'm not sitting here saying anyone will go to hell morpheus. I don't even know whether I'm even going to heaven. But I will try my best to please God, to obey his laws, and to gain his mercy. And no, muslims don't believe they are "chosen ones". It is up to us to choose to obey God or not. "Islam" means submission to God. People who submit to God and follow the way of life he has prescribed for us is therefore a muslim. I don't think it's logical to believe your way of life is the only way to get to heaven. Why would it be logical for me to believe that let's say, ancient egyptians can go to heaven? They didn't worship God. They worshipped, according to my beliefs, gods they made up themselves. That certainly doesn't gain God's pleasure. He says in the Qur'an, that he wants us to worship him, the one and only God.
 17.
So God would stand for something He doesn't encourage? Would God consider something He doesn't encourage sinful -- and if not, then why would He not encourage it? You have to see Boba's point with the whole "perfection in God's laws." If an almighty being created these laws, and they have not been altered, then why would they permit something that is not encouraged? Why not just permit it, and say "but you can't in these cases"?
They are not discouraged because they are sinful. They are simply discouraged because the person in most cases would be better off not doing them. If a person wants to divorce, they are permitted for any reason, even really dumb ones like your spouse not being attractive enough. I guess this is because God gives us some degree of freedom within his laws. In the Islamic perspective, humans are not perfect, and God doesn't expect us to be. We all make mistakes. Even the prophets ? being human, made mistakes and sometimes even displeased God. Though compared to the rest of us, they have the best character. Because we are not perfect, some laws simply have to general. Alcohol is forbidden. Just because some people can control themselves and not get drunk, God still forbids it for everyone. This is because alcohol being fobidden entirely is better that permitting it under certain conditions, because not everyone makes the right choice, and harm can still be done if people drink. It is better for the society as a whole for alcohol to be forbidden. So back to divorce, it would be better for the society as a whole for it to permitted than for it to be permitted under certain situations, because humans would make mistakes when it should be implimented and people who really should have gotten a divorce might think they are not allowed to. Also, maybe people would be inclined to do more sinful things if they can't get a divorce. For instance, a woman is unhappy with her husband, he isn't pleasing her enough. Se can't get a divorce because it's not allowed, and if she did, everyone would know. She might resort to adultery, which is a greater sin, but easier to coneal from the public. See how it would be better for her to be allowed to divorce? Even if her reason is a little dumb? One thing I should have pointed out is that in Islam, the laws work for the entire society, not just each individual. So that is why they are not "perfect" for any one individual. It simply does not work for them to be "perfect" for indiviuals because individuals and their actions can have direct effects on their society.
 18.
Well, the understanding here is that if a man has sex with more than one women, he should have to take financial and social responsibility for ALL his mates... in a way, the polygamy allowance in Islam actually serves to protect women from being used for sex and then disposed of
And to add to that, its not encouraged because when mad takes on four wives, he should treat them all equally, and very few men have the capability of doing so. It's also not encourage, because obviously this can cause jealosy between females.
Just curious as to why an all powerful god would, when creating a book you claim has never been altered by human hands, place within that text something he permits but does not encourage. If you're god, why settle for anything less than perfection in your laws?
Because there are times that call for things that he does not encourage. God permits divorce, but that is one of the most hated things he permits. He expects couples to try their best to make their marriage work, but sometimes,a divorce is just neccesary. It is usually better for a man to only have one wife, but there are times that call for man to take on more wives. Such as after wartime when the male/female ratio is quite small. Or if the first wife cannot bear children, and the man really wants to have children, or if like Xander implied, instead of commiting adultery if one woman is not enough to please him (because men are more inclined to look at females other that his wife), he should be financially obligated to care for all those women.
 19. Where I live, in southwestern Ontario Canada, we pretty much experience all four "traditional" seasons. Winter can get really cold. And my house has horrible insulation so our floors feel like ice when we wake up in the morning. Summers are hot and really humid. Anyway, this year, the snow is melting pretty early. It's only January. We usually have snow till the end of march, even early april! The temperature keeps going up and down. We get rain, the snow melts (except for those huge hills the snow plows make), anbd the ground gets all muddy and icky, the next day is sunny, and the water evaporates, the next day, it's colder again and it snows again. Today is a really icky day. There so much trash under the the snow, and lots of dirt being eroded off the grass. It's one depressing day. I think the clouds are clearing up though.
 20.
Chabi, when you are puzzled by these things, it's simply because you look at things a different way. You are Muslim, and in conjunction with that, you believe that the Quran is, as you said, God's word verbatim. You believe that it is an absolute source of truth, and that is a large tenet of your faith. But many people do not have the same absolute faith in their respective holy books. I think, here, that you are wrong in making no distinction between "disliking" what something says and "disagreeing" with what it says.
Allright, Lore, the way you put it, it makes more sense to me. I'm sorry, but I would like to still go back to my first example of my mother's teacher. If she believes that both Muhammad and Jesus were prophets, shouldn't she believe there is at least some truth behind their teachings? Islam for instance, isn't really about polygamy or women covering themselves, or holy wars or whatever comes to your minds when you think of the religion. It all really boils down to worshipping one God. So I ask you, logically speaking, if she believes Muhammad is a prophet sent by God, that the Quran is a holy scripture, why not at least worship God, why not just follow the fundamentals of the religion? Do you get what I mean?
 21.
Now, I'm not going to say that you're all a bunch of perverted stalkers [because the truth hurts], but why would anybody actually give so much detail about their location that you could rock up on their doorstep, unannounced? I don't even live in Perth, though I will by the end of the year. Currently I live a few hours south of it. But I wouldn't tell someone online [hell, anyone who I didn't know online] exactly where I live. Isn't this just a tiny bit cause for concern? You can't exactly control who looks at it, heh.
Well, giving your location in the city isn't so bad. You can't really pick your house or apartemnet number, and THAT, i wouldn't do. But honestly, is someone really going to hurt you just because they know your address? There's plenty of people in my own city who know my address, even if I don't know them well. What makes people online suddenly more dangerous? Knocking on my door isn't going to hurt me. And I let in who I want. And I can tell you, even If I have issues with people online, I still have issues with people in real life, and none of THEM have bothered to stalk me, lol.
 22. Wow, I just discovered you can change your location so it can match your street! Pretty nifty. This is so cool. Has anyone else narrowed down their location to their street?
 23.
Nobody believes completely in the words of any religious text. Your faith is not in the bible, quran, or whatever. Your belief is in an interpretation of those books.
Well sure, some aspects of holy scriptures are subject to interpretation, which is why there are sects in religions, but I'm really refering to the basic fundamental ideas of the religion. If the Qur'an says not to consume alcohol, that's just a simple basic instruction. How is that subject to interpretation? "Don't drink alcohol" means.... "don't drink alcohol!"! If you go back to my first example, my mother's teacher, she accepts the fact that jesus and muhammad are prophets sent down by God. She simply doesn't agree with polygamy, which is only permitted, but not encouraged in islam. Not only that, the subject of polygamy is found in the Quran, not simply muhammad's teachings. Even if she doesn't like polygamy, how does that tie in with the basic fundamentals of the religion? It doesn't make sense for her not to follow the religion if she believes it's from God.
 24.
I'm worried. Not so much about the cons getting a minrotiy government, which is bad, but with the amount of seats the PQ has gotten (60 wasn't it?). They're now officially the most dangerous party in Canada. Now nothing will get done unless it directly and often biasedly benifits Quebec (Or if for some reason the Libs and Cons agree on somthing). This is bad because no province should hold so much power. In any case, Harper will screw over Canada (America North once he gets through with it) faster than you can say 'Iraq' and we'll have another election soon... yay, more money to waste!
Actually if you heard any of the speeches made by the conservatives and any of the losing parties, they are willing to cooperate this time. The NDP's are glad they have more seats and a bigger voice and they don't think we need an election any time soon. The same goes for the liberals. Harper said we voted for a new government, not a new country. Just because Canada becomes more conservative, we're not going to suddenly turn into America. As for the Bloq Quebequois, they actually lost seats. I think more and more Quebecers want to remain part of Canada. I don't want the conservatives in power, because I'm a socialist at heart. But I think a few good things will come out of this situation.
 25. Syk3, That still doesn't explain how wanting something to be true simply makes it true. Logically speaking, if God does exist, and he did create hell, and sent down a book to humans stating so, how does not believing in hell suddenly make it dissappear? There's a big difference between hopes and reality. Ofcourse, if you didn't believe in any specific religion, then that would mean that you would also believe they are man-made. And that would make the teachings one accepts from each religion simply based on human philosophies. Why would God (or gods) send down so many different relgions if they contradict one another? Isn't religion what people believe God wants from us? How he wants us to worship him? For instance, the only reason I follow Islam, is becuase I believe the Quran is the word of God verbatim. And the reason I believe this is because to me, the book itself is a miracle. It has divine qualities. I can feel it in every word I read from it. Not only that, I also believe that the book has not been altered by humans. Now, maybe not everyone feels the way I do about the Quran (for others its the Bible, the Torah, etc), but since I feel this way about the Quran, would it not be logical for me to follow its teachings? How would not liking one aspect make it not true? Just because I don't like hell, that reality would cease to exist? I'd say the only logical alternative to following any specific religion is simply to believe in some sort of creator, and perhaps you could assume some of the attributes that creator would have (love, mercy, power). And perhaps that righteous people will be rewarded and the wicked will be punished. But that would be that. Only then can a human philosophy of what is right and wrong be put in place. Religions tell us what God thinks is right or wrong, so the only reason not to follow any of these religions is if you think they are not what God thinks.
I personally believe that if you lead a good life, that if you have a truly good heart, no matter your religion (or lack thereof), you will be in heaven. I think that Christ is just, and that He will see the kindness in everyone's hearts, rather than be a Pharisee and discriminate against Gandhi just because he wasn't Christian. And yes, I believe in Hell.
But then what would the point be of being christian? The only thing about this ideology that doesn't make sense is its connection to christianity. Chrisitanity teaches that only christians go to heaven, it's a complete contradiction. So why would you believe in this religion? (I mean no offence or pressure Retri).
