Originally posted by Ryo the Tamer I just got one thing to ask about the dub version. Does Kenshin repeat himself in the original like he does in the Dub?
If you mean, when Kenshin says something like "That it is." to end a sentence, he does do that in the actual sub. He does this as a habit so much that a little kid in the Kyoto arc calls Kenshin by the name of "That it is" insted of his real name. It is humorous and it was good they kept in the dub. I was pretty surprised that they got rid of Kenshin's famous "Oro" and replaced it with "huh" or other random phrases of confusion. I didn't see that as something English speakers couldnt adapt too... As many have said, the voice acting in the dub deserves a thumb down (not the worst in the world but where did they get Kenshin's voice? Sure, plenty of people like it, but my personal opinion is the high-pitched japanese voice for him actually fit better) but based on the first 5 eps, most of the important parts of the eps remained intact. Wonder how much they'll have to cut in the much darker and more violent "Legend of Kyoto". Enjoy the first 62 eps of the show. 63-95 are mostly fillers and the end is so boring. Watsuki Nobuhiro (the creator) didn't even make it so it wasn't destined for much newaz. The three OVAs are a lot more enjoyable (Trust, Betrayal, and Seisouhen) although they lack the original humor from the show and are a lot more violent. This is truly one of the best animes of all time despite the show's weak ending. IF you're a true otaku, don't miss this show.

That's a good question. I know a lot of the popular US cartoons make their way to other countries. Shows like "The Powerpuff Girls" are dubbed into Japanese and shown there. I don't know about spongebob but with its popularity, its might've made its way to Japanese TV and if not, maybe translated to DVD and sold there. Some US cartoons that are popular here tend to make their way to the international scope so their are prolly plenty of them out there.

Anime Cartoon Network Line-Ups...and anime on television announcements
VP-Master replied to Syk3's topic in Otaku Central
Originally posted by Imsirion hey, According to Cartoon Network?s online programming schedule, Rurouni Kenshin will air weekdays at 6:30EST beginning March 17th. Although the online schedule has proven incorrect on occasion, it is very unlikely that a new acquisition would be posted unless broadcast plans had been secured, so viewers should expect to see Kenshin on television very soon.
Yep, Kenshin is definetely coming to Toonami. Here's an article on that. It will be interesting to see how the editted and dubbed Kenshin will look like. -
I think anime should be allowed in school. Since it is extra-curricular, and most anime have some good themes that schools should't mind. You guys are lucky to have an anime club with good support. We had one in our school last year (My English teacher from last year was somehow interested with Japanese culture) but the club didn't last cuz their were only 2 or 3 people there. Nobody seems to appreciate anime in my school.

Correct me If i'm wrong but didn't the god cards in japan have different color backings? Hence the cards would be instantly forbidden from official tournament play. If that's how it was in Japan, what are the chances that people in the US will get it any better? They may release the god cards here but with different color backings or making it a forbidden card, its pretty pointless to have even for a collector if no one can use it. So everyone, write to UD and convince them not to make the god cards forbidden!

FMP is a great series based on what I've seen (just 13 eps). The story is definetely a lot lighter than some of the other stuff coming out from the mecha genre but that's a good thing. Awesome characters too. Sagara= someone I can really relate to. If you enjoyed ep1, you'll like the rest of the series.

IDK if Trigun the anime got into Trigun Max but it definetely didn't finish it. The anime does contain the original manga story however for sure. When the original Trigun was ending, another publishing contacted Yasuhiro Nightow and asked him to make a new Trigun series. Supposedely he wanted to start a new story instead but eventually he agreed to making Trigun Maximum and started the series again putting the plot a few years into the future and you'll also notice some of the characters look a little different. I also remember looking at an Anime magazine last month (not Shonen Jump, maybe Anime Invasion) and it was saying Nightow has no plans of making Trigun Maximum an anime series. :( Maybe he'll change his mind later though.

The rechargeable lithium-ion is a great feature coming with the GBA:SP. Does anyone know if the AC Adapter used to charge up the battery will come with the system or will that be another $20(US) or so to tack on to the already expensive price of the SP?

I've heard tentaviley, the release time for X-2 in the US should be around holiday time '03. I'm guessing it'll come to AUS maybe Feb-June '04. Don't quote me on that though.

I've heard a lot of ppl say SEED doesnt compare to other Gundam series but it's enjoyable with an interesting story and some fun characters. The animation is superb but probably not much different from other modern anime like Kenshin and FMP. I've only seen up to ep 7 (the fansub group releases slowly, but does quality subs; a lot better than aj's) but I'm looking forward to see what lies ahead.

Wow, when I heard my friend my talking about the new back-lit GBA, I was thinking it would be more or less the same looking GBA just now with that new feature. But when I saw the pics, I was amazed. It's a nice compact size and what I like a lot is how the screen is protected to prevent scratching. I'm still wondering how well the compact control layout will work but I guess it should be alright. It's too bad Nintendo didn't come out with this GBA when the system first launched. Guess I should try to sell my current GBA and see what I get. BTW, I'm not sure if this was posted already, but does anyone know the dimensions of GBA: SP? Thanks.

Anime Two pieces of exodia WARNING, MAY INCLUDE SPOILERS
VP-Master replied to Tigervx's topic in Otaku Central
I thought the whole point of Joey retreiving 2 pieces of Exodia was just a way of showing how much he cares for Yugi and to prove his determination that would eventually need in duelist kingdom to save Serenity. I didn't really think that concept would be pulled any further but "Return of Exodia" seems to foreshadow just the opposite. We'll just have to wait and see unless someone does manage to dig up a summary for that ep. -
I'm looking to get a new PS2 game this christmas and I was wondering whether or not to get NBA 2K3. I played Live 2003 earlier but I didn't really like it that much. So, if any of you guys have played 2K3, is it a good game for the NBA fan? What did and what didn't you like about the game? Thanks for the feedback.

why do people say that the money make's the world go around
VP-Master replied to tigeroscar_1's topic in General Discussion
Think of a world with no form of money... it may work out for some time but when resources, goods, and other necessities start to diminish, people will slowly go into chaos in order to get what they need for survival. We need money to help moderate what he have here. One can argue that it also strikes unneccesary greed and evil into the hearts of some but in the long run, the pros outweigh the cons. -
Ok this topic is pretty old now but hopefully people are still coming here so here goes... I'm a newbie at the card game so I only have the Kaiba Starter Deck for now and 2 of my friends are really interested in Lord of D and The Flute of Summoning Dragon. One of them is offering Ookazi, Invigoration, La Jinn, Girochin Kuwagata, Battle Ox, and a Blue Eyes for my Lord of D, the flute, and fissure. The other kid is offering 3 Dark Magicians for my Lord of D, flute, la jinn, Hane-hane, and remove trap. I want to build up a deck with 3 blue eyes and I could get closer to my goal with one of these trades but at the same time, I wouldn't mind having 3 Dark Magicians. So I'm wondering which deal is better than the other or are they both ripping me off? Thx for the help.

Yugi, Tea, Joey, and Tristan are supposedly freshman (in japanese school standards) and they attend Domino High School. And yes, its perfectly possible for Yugi to be that short and still be a frehsman. There's a kid that's 4-6 (that's in ft-in) in my english and global classes and this is 10th grade. So yeah.

I haven't seen it on cn yet but are you guys sure about the lighter editting? I thought they were the same old eps on cn just so they can expand their audience. But if there's less editing, i'll look forward to watching that, maybe those guards (and bandit keith) will have guns now.

I know how you feel. I'm 14 and it seems no one here like Pokemon. I keep it secret too cuz I wouldn't see the end of it if kid's from school knew I still watched the TV show. Most of my friends who used to play have gotten tired and quit it so I'm the only one who really plays here. The games are still fun to play and when Pokemon Ruby and Saphire come out early next year in the US, I'll make sure I get a copy.

The japanese names are so much better but it's a dub, what do you expect? we should make a petition to 4kids to release an uncut/unedited version on DVD but until then, we're stuck with these cheap names.
-
Overall, it was good changes for CN. Although, I agree they shoud've replaced the Powerpuff girls instead of Dexter with Pokemon. ALso, I still think there showing too much DB and DBZ but hey, when u got a top rated show, what network would neglect showing the series 24/7? After seeing Yu-Gi-Oh now making its way CN, it's a pity to see how its so close to Adult Swim if only it wasn't liscenced by stupid 4Kids. Like Kaiba's Angel said, If ADV, Pioneer, or some of the other dvd companies that target older audiences could liscnece this show, it could have reached a much more broad viewing area and we'd see decent eps of the shows being released in the US. O well...

On this horrorful day, what is your purpose?
VP-Master replied to Mitch's topic in General Discussion
I'm not dressing up this Haloween just becuz I've got a lotta homework to do and I have to hand out the candy to the trick or treaters. Its boring but I still get the candy my parents bought. -
I've seen the first 2 episodes as of now. I think its a pretty good series so far. Like you said, the animation is sharp and the plot seems alright but I'm hoping they'll add a bit more action in order to balance it with the drama. I really like the AU series for the most part so I hope this one will be awesome as well. Looking forward to watching more eps. :babble:
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel Like was said... Try www.gamefaqs.com and www.gamewinners.com It's honestly really hard to review a game fairly if you cheat through it, but good luck heh :).
You're absolutely right. I didnt state it clearly but I just need cheats to unlock all the levels so I can go through the goals for each of them slowly without having to waste the extra time of unlocking each of them so I can just look at the game as a whole. Like I said in my first post, gamefaqs still doesn't have anything and gamewinners just has "hints". O well, I guess they aren't out yet. My goal is to beat the game by thursday then so hopefully i can do it. I suck at the game but ive managed to make it to the 3rd level. Hope I can reach level 9 in time wihtout the cheats...
-
O god. I just asked for cheats not for someone to tell me its morally and ethically wrong to use them (even though they're right). Anyways, I need to review it for the school paper which only gives us a week to write articles so a cheat that unlocked most of the game would have been really helpful so I could quickly run through the game and see what's new, what's sux, what stays the same, etc. And no matter how hard I try, I can't beat any THPS game in a week. So if any of u guys know cheats like that, it would be really helpful. Thx.
-
I just rented this game today and for the most part, its pretty good. But when I went to find some cheats for the game on common sites like gamefaqs and gamespot, they didn't have any yet. So if any of you THPS gurus out there knew some THPS4 cheats, that would be great. Thx.
