Someone with a better memory of the Padded Room Party can add in details that I miss or get wrong since that was.. pretty far back. Seed entry The Rise and Fall of the Padded Room Party Categories: Notable old threads, Notable V3 Role Playing Threads, V3 Role Playing Trends The Padded Room Party was one of the largest and arguably spammiest 'role playing' threads to ever exist. The PRP was typical of most V3 role playing threads- little to no premise, little to no character development and, basically, just chaotic action-oriented posts with a weak (or nonexistent) overlaying narrative. The posts contained numerous references to what was popular at the time- Dragon Ball Z, typical fantasy stereotypes and numerous other animes. It lacked substance, quality, narrative and most everything many of our newer members associate with our Role Playing area. An enormous number of posts were put into the thread (well into the hundreds, if not thousands) before, thankfully, it was closed by a moderator unknown and, eventually, deleted entirely. Most of the people involved in it found the closure to be a bad decision. Reflecting on it now one would venture that it was actually one of the better decisions made for the Roleplaying forum and was part of a larger movement to improve quality within the Role Playing areas. These decisions lead to the increasing quality, depth and nature of RPGs on OB beyond just silly spamfests that reigned for some time. Looking upon the current threads in the Adventure Arena now it's hard to imagine what the V3 era was like if you were not there but, certainly, the PRP was the prime example of the type of role playing that was going on. It's closure and deletion marked the beginning of heavy emphasis on quality that continues even now. Trivia- Many notable old members were involved in the PRP: Desbreko, Dragon Warrior, Chaos and DeathKnight, to name just a few. -

AEB and Rick Hunter are two amusing stories in this site's history and my own. I don't even really remember 90 percent of the things Kevin ranted about to me.. it was an extensive list of grievances for sure, none of them particularly memorable or interesting. He had dreams of grandeur and didn't realize that his sites were really piss poor, especially when so starkly compared to theOtaku and OtakuBoards. He demanded us to advertise this shoddy knockoff that was nothing more than a crapheap.. it was near impossible to please him, no matter what most of us did. He demanded more members, he demanded more topics, he demanded this and that to the point that I don't really think I cared anymore what he wanted, he was just full of hot air and nothing else. Others put up with it pretty well but I just couldn't take him anymore. We were all from OB as the entry says so most of his seemingly delirious anti-OB rants were pretty unintentionally humorous. I had been a mod at OB for a period of time during 2002-2003 and had seen the effort James and others put into making this site as successful as it is.. Kevin just didn't have the same sort of dedication. He had the zeal, sure, but it was too much. It blinded him to logic, lol. More than that his personality was just.. flawed. I mean, people have pros and cons but this guy just.. was a ****ing idiot a huge majority of the time. I mean, look at the stuff about his "movie". Then consider the fact he seriously was trying to convince all of us that, you know, it was factual. That's pretty quirky. Ginny and Tony are worthy members for entries (no matter what you say Tony). They were pretty important to the site and were friends to many. I couldn't write extensively about them but I'd put forward such members as Sephiroth, BabyGirl and LadyMaciodah as also being worth some of the earlier entries into the list of members. Haha, maybe Kuja should get an early entry too.. in a nice red font with plenty of winks. GroupSounds is where all the cool people hang out and yes Papa Smurf is really good at arguing about topics.. even across multiple message boards! -
What are you even trying to do, get me to drop out of this contest? No matter how much resistance I get for my event, I'm going to pull it through with people who are actually interested in it, and in the end it's Shy[/I']'s decision if it was good enough or not.
Yeah, it's you against the world man! Don't let them get you down, just GO for it! *inspiring music* We can critique your event as much as we want to, no matter what Shy finally decides. If we think it's piss poor in some (or many) areas we will be telling you so that you have it in mind what our (aka the Community's) misgivings are. You keep trying to make the case that it's just individuals that don't like your Event and/or find it convoluted and uninteresting when all of us seem to be echoing each other's critiques, lol. Drop out? No, I don't personally care about that. This isn't some kind of personal attack on you, it's just us (or me) bringing up the flaws of your Event and how you approached creating it. You know, key issues if you're going to be the, oh I don't know, Event Master?
Don't tell me it won't work before it has even started.
Personally I'm not saying that. If you want it to work and make the effort it will work, it might work so beautifully we're all awestruck and go "wow Sandy that was pretty cool I take everything back can I have your autograph homie". Or it might just crash and burn and explode like a piece of ****. What happens is mostly in your hands and in the hands of the people you allow to sign up.
What is there to take, honestly? According to you as well as a number of others, my game sucks, so the only thing I could do is to change it completely, or just give up. And that is not[/I'] an option. You can psyche and provoke me all you want, I'm not giving in.
Okay so let me just get this straight: *There is a group of us critiquing you. *All of us, more or less, are echoing each other with what we find flawed with your game. *All of this, from well-respected and knowledgeable members, goes in one ear and out the other. *Your responses, if not defensive, are increasingly melodramatic (if only you were so important that we'd all band together to destroy your Event).
I don't understand where everybody has gotten this sudden urge to give me a piece of their "constructive" advice.
There are flaws in your event, there are flaws in all three events. Shy has pointed out none of them are original and all three of them provide a pretty extensive list of rules/guidelines to enjoy them, some more extensive than the others. Gavin in this thread has showed a respectable attitude about the flaws in his RP and openly changed aspects of it due to the responses he's been provided. Even if his Event isn't as universally appealing as White I think these are fine attributes to have if you are going to be an Event Master and I now think that he would do just as good as job as White would. You, though. Completely different reaction to criticism. A poor reaction to it, really.
Come what may, Labyrinth is my[/I'] event, and if it doesn't make me an Event Master, then so be it. But couldn't you people at least give me a chance?
Exactly why are we giving you criticism, Sandy? Are you so misguided to think that we give it because you are you? Because we decided to target your Event as the one to just **** around with? That there was a secret meeting one day and we all said "Well, Sandy is going down dude"? Or are we giving it because we have opinions on how to improve it and, in theory, improve your chances at winning OI2? And in the course of us giving our opinions you have responded so poorly, with such irritating and persistent defensiveness that this has spun out beyond that into a back-and-forth exchange that seems like it will never end? Yeah. You have your chance. Do what you want with it, your Event can rock if you want it to. But just in this thread, how you responded to us? It's not just the Event that's flawed, that can be forgiven. It's your attitude that's really grating.
I don't think I agree with what you said in your MyOtaku page, Charles, about Labyrinth not standing out if it was transferred to Adventure Square. In my opinion it has many elements that common OB RPGs don't have, such as being a contest and the possibility to die in the game (hence the mature rating).
You seem to be under the mistaken presumption that those things make it more appealing. Vote for White '06.

Humans in general have problems with being content with what they have materialistically. This is especially problematic in modern, vibrant, capitalistic societies where you are, more or less, constantly assaulted by what is 'newer', 'better' and more stylish than what you currently have. I doubt any major company wants you to be fully content with yourself- they want you to go out and buy their newest product, whatever it may be and bombard you with how affordable it is to do so. Evil is a pretty vague and strong word. Saying that it's the root of all Evil is a step up from that. Certainly it's problematic- conspicuous consumption is like a disease in America and I'm sure it's just as prevalent in other countries with a high standard of living. I agree with others here- 'evil' can be traced back to humans. Not because of the creation and development of money/modern economics (which wasn't really evil but certainly convoluted), but because humans are just flawed creatures and can be easily captivated in the pursuit of their own happiness. Some people want money to lead them to Arcadia and I doubt it can. Luxuries make life more comfortable, they amuse and delight but they cannot really make your life constantly fulfilled and happy. It takes more than just items and things to do that. Oh yeah, btw, you guys can come over to my house and play my X-Box 360. Even Yahweh, the "source of all happiness", is invited to do a little Gears of War or Dead Rising. :p
I just think most people's comments towards me have been kinda lame.
We work with what you give us.
Blah blah humor, right? Well, in my opinion, nothing funny has been said. But then again, i am rather difficult to make laugh. Not because of a lack of humor but because i'm the one that usually tells the jokes around whatever group of friends i'm hanging out with. You'd have to be a pro to make me laugh, or one of the 3 or 4 genuinely funny people i know. Also, it's even harder when you're reading posts on a message board.
You don't need to laugh at it. I doubt Sandy wanted to bring joy to your life or make your day better and if he did he's a better man than I am. It lacked intent to harm or genuine malice. Nothing more needs to be said.
I stand by my previous comment that it's innapropriate to joke around with one's religion. I never said that i can't take a joke. I'm simply saying that it's a stupid move to do something like that, because you could very easily be talking to a deeply religious person, and you could offend them.
Oh, you were serious when you said that. Woops. He could offend them, yes. Deeply religious people have that odd tendency of being easily offended by trivial statements. Very moody folk, them.
Your comment was towards a person you've never talked to before in your life, that's why i think it was a stupid one.
If you're a complete stranger that he'll probably never meet in his life how exactly does it matter if he could have potentially offended you? And what would it say about the hypothetical stranger on this message board who over reacts to another stranger's statements?
It was pointless.[/FONT']
Neat. We agree.
Edit: I went back and looked at Deathdude's post and i gotta say, i'm actually a bit angry now. Name calling is so ********** immature, man. In all honesty, i'd probalby punch you in the face for saying something like that to me in person. It's little pricks like you that don't belong in a place like OB. Grow a brain, buddy.
Heh. The answer to my above question is that the over reacting stranger would be viewed in very, very poor light. Chill and work on cutting back on your ego.

1. What religion are you CURRENTLY following? I follow Discordianism half seriously. Then again the entire thing is half serious so it works out into a pretty cool fraction of seriousness. Neat, huh. 2. Why do you follow that religion? Parents, personal reasons, etc? I want to so I do. 3. Do you ever feel that people often criticize you because of these beliefs? That's okay since their choice in faith is easy to criticize as well. Haha, Christianity.
