So Ikuhara is remastering Utena. Possibly even in HD!
That would be so smexy...I just got a HD tv too. I hope it comes out on r1 dvd so I can watch it again.
Speaking of which, I hear that Tokyopop has put the second novel permanently on hold. Licensing issues, apparently. I guess it's a good thing that it's all self-contained stories, so it's not like they had to stop on a cliffhanger, but I wish more were on the way. ~Dagger~
:animecry:

I just got the short novel for Christmas. I hope it's good. The anime was great...one of my all time favorites for sure.

Anime The anime here in america...is it getting childish?
Panache replied to Humaru's topic in Otaku Central
the point was they were great back then, and maybe if we at OB weren't older or more childish ( o god answer my prayers) then they wouldn't be so bad. and yes i know the original JAPANESE versions are better, but in america they're childish and panache is right they are aimed for more so 10 year olds and around there and unless your watching adult swim (which still has censored one piece) you don't get to watch the better less censored anime till about 11 o'clock. and i am an honors student who doesn't finish till then, and teachers get mad when you sleep in class. so i can't do that. I know that I might not be the greatest go to cosplay conven and to the end of the earth to get anime fan. the anime here is aimed for 10 year olds and watered down.
Um what? I don't understand what you said at all. -
Dopethrone, IMO, is their best. Check out Vinum Sabbathi and the title track. Slowest and heaviest stoner doom out there.
I had that song long before I had Dopethrone. But I got dopethrone for Christmas. And I wasn't saying witchcult was the best. I was just saying it was really good. Any real Electric Wizard fan has to have heard at least one song on dopethrone... My favorite song on that album is we hate you...mostly because of the message(guess what it is!)
i didn't mean to say everything that 4kids touches dies, because look at what kirby did for a while, but then foxbox turned into 4kids, and got programmed with winx club then got gay, my point is i'm not trying to bash 4 kids but peacemaker kurogane, never heard of it before but that was before foxbox or whatever turned into 4kids, i think everything went downhill and turned into a heap of crap from there and american "anime" has turned a bit childish in my opinion, and little 8 year old girls are taking over the world.
The stuff on fox box was for like 10 year olds...when I was 10 I thought it was great stuff. Why the hell are your criticizing shows aimed at 10 year olds?(If there is a discriminating 10 year old anime viewer I haven't seen him) -
I agree with Kanji's post. This comparison actually works against your point. :animeswea The Kenshin manga ran in Japan's Shounen Jump, and although I don't know what timeslot(s) the anime had, its average viewer household rating across its whole run was 12.2%, which is significantly higher than the numbers that One Piece is currently pulling. To me that makes it seem safe to conclude that the Kenshin anime must have had a favorable timeslot, one that would expose it to at least as many young people as One Piece and comparable series. For practical purposes, they're the same kind of thing. ~Dagger~
I remember watching it when I was 12 I think (that counts as a kid right?). I never thought it was too bad. But then again my first anime was Ninja Scroll...so my opinion is probably invalid here. -
In closing, read yourself some Rurouni Kenshin (more specifically, Seta Sojiro's backstory) and then tell me One Piece is gruesome.
Or watch Berserk...if you thought saw was nasty... -
Evil does exist. This is proof. Her mother seriously shouldn't be letting her on the computer if she is that psychologically unstable. To bad nothing will be done to actually punish these people(as there is no justice in this world). I don't think They deserve the death penalty but they do deserve some jail time. That **** wasn't bullying that was 2nd degree murder. Not bullying. They intended extreme psychological pain and actually killed her.

So my mom asked me what Electric Wizards songs were about. Man that was awkward...
I think it is a much different situation--parents can easily control what their kids are watching on the news, but I don't think they have a clue what their kids watch on Cartoon Network.
Then people wouldn't be censoring it...
BTW if you haven't seen this 3 episode OVA, your as blasphemus as that One Pice hater. Now One Piece isn't my favoiret, but it is an awesome anime nonethelss.
That person was just being ignorant. Not liking One Piece is fine. It's not like it's a modern day classic. It's just a generic shounen. That said it's a pretty good generic shounen(well actually the tv show is weak in my opinion but the manga is sexy). Petite Cossette isn't a classic either. It's new to the scene. Something shameful would be if you area big sci fi anime guy and haven't seen akira. Or a big mecha guy and haven't seen eva. -
Wow, that was the most blatantly honest thing I've read/heard all week. Actually, I'm not surprised that anime in America is being watered down. Think about it: Here in the U.S., we had legal battles for a year straight over video games being to violent. I think that if we are going to water down anime in America, we need to water down everything else that kids might watch: Law & Order, CSI, James Bond movies, The Golden Compass, Loony Toons, ect. Like that's ever going to happen. Just a little side question. When other people were told that you watched anime, did they assume that anime was hentai? Or did that only happen to me?
They censor cartoons yet they let kids watch/hear horrible graphic things on the news. In my area they spent a whole day talking about how people were brutally mauled to death by tigers that escaped in the zoo.(no joke) Oh and yea one time some kid was like "You like anime so your like into kinky cartoon porn?" I was like "..." -
'difference of cultures (americasucks)."
We don't suck our kids are just pansies. Or at least that's what the people who censor the cartoons think. -
I've seen previews of it while waiting to see various movies. I didn't really care much at first until I heard that people get their necks slit with strait razors. I am might get the dvd.

Anime The anime here in america...is it getting childish?
Panache replied to Humaru's topic in Otaku Central
Nah I just don't like the definition. I don't think it makes sense to say cartoons from certain parts of Asia made by asian people should be called something else. If that's the case if I wanted to make my own anime one day I would be ****** because I am A not Asian B not living in Asia. So yea. I don't like defining anime as Japanese cartoons. They are just cartoons. So call me a Douche or Elitist otaku or whatever the **** you want. I don't give a damn. That's what I think. I've argued my *** off about it before. And that isn't fun. So from now on if I say something is anime and you disagree either Pm me or ignore me. And if you have something to say about this whole paragraph pm me because if you respond you will throw the thread off track even more. But damn we are like...way off topic. So I figure I will put some helpful links here. You wanna find mature anime? Look at these top review sites. Anime The anime here in america...is it getting childish?
You can logically define the Boondocks as anime, it just makes you a douche.
Yea but what else is new? -
Anime The anime here in america...is it getting childish?
Panache replied to Humaru's topic in Otaku Central
Panache, Boondocks is NOT anime. It's based on a comic, not a manga. It's style is just influnced a bit by anime. Blood+ is good, and Eureka Seven was good. To bad Adult Swim took it out of the lineup :( They also had Neon Genesis Evangelion, and that show is deintily not childish.
Manga=japanese word for comic. But since I know that there is no way in hell anyone will agree with my definition of anime I will go ahead and say you are right. Even though I think you are wrong. Because if I don't one of the most useless discussions in the world will occur. The definition of anime...(yes it is a discussion as many people disagree on the definiton). Oh yea and if they ever put case closed back up you should watch that. That's a damn good show. -
No Panache, no. Not all good metal bands are satanists. And who siad soome of them are, it could just be a scene thing. Who knows, there could be a super good band out there and the message they send is love Jesus.
...Sarcasm...that was pretty obvious sarcasm...
I don't exactly get the thing where you say "...try to break the mold in some way progress will stop. And that's bad (paraphrase)" Kind of contradictory. I think you meant to say "try to break the mold in some way where progress won't stop."

But if you don't try to be different...try to break the mold in some way progress will stop. And when progress stops...bad things happen.
I don't mean break the mold in a way progress will stop. I mean breaking the mold is what causes progress. Actually I think that is the definition of progress. Bah bad grammar ftl...
-
So like I orignally said, it's hard to be totally individual, because there is no way to completely seperate yourselves from the rest of the group. It's really impossible, because virtually everyone is capable of enjoying the same things as you do. Which is that a bad thing? Because I certainly enjoy eating my pistachio/ketchup flavored ice cream with others.
I think Haruhi Suzumiya (from the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) touched on that. She wondered what the point of life was if nothing she did was unique. But if you don't try to be different or try to break the mold in some way, progress will stop. And when progress stops...bad things happen. Life stagnates. Life becomes meaningless. So really (I know you said this in the first post but I feel I should repeat it) there is no such thing as being mainstream or individualism. If a thing exists there is someone else who feels the same as you about it somewhere period. Forgive me if I been completely redundant or nonsensical.

Escaflowne 1-4 Hmm...wtf? This anime gets good and almost has me interested then someone does something extremely stupid. Like
...the girl has a vision she foresees the obvious attack...then they write it off as nonsense
...but they have no problem believing the she came from another planet story. WHAT THE HELL!!! This better get better...and damn soon.
Ultimately it's a show I enjoyed more for how well made it was than because I felt a strong connection to it.
What do you mean by that? You like couldn't understand where the kids were coming from? I guess you were a really hard worker in school...

Obviously all good metal is written in frostbitten forests up north. Northern Norway to be exact. That's why all good metal bands are satanists. Because it's so ****ing cold that hell seems like a blessing. And that's why black metal is the only genre. SO THAR!!!!
