At the moment, I'm barrelling through A Clockwork Orange. My friend had it at lunch one day, and I picked it up out of interest. I've been wanting to see the movie for a while now (mostly because a few of my friends really like it), but the book sucked me in. It was a little hard to understand at first, because the narrator uses a made up slang nonchalantly, as if the readers have spoken it all their lives. It's relatively easy to pick up, though, and there are probably plenty of sites on the internet that shed some light on the nadsat. Anyway, it's now one of my favorite books, and I want to see the movie even more. I was also reading the Shining, but I got interrupted by ACO. I was inspired to read the book by the movie (which coincidentally shares the same director as ACO). Granted, Stephen King and Stanley Kubrick weren't very fond of each other, and Kubrick viewed King as inferior - the movie has a lot of differences from the book, but the basic story is generally the same. I really love the way Stephen King wrote it, involving sudden interupptions of a character's thoughts. He describes things so vividly. I'd like to finish The Shining, but I had to return it to the library today (I probably owe a fine for it being overdue. =[ ). I'm waiting for Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer to come out. I read the first two books in the series, Twilight and New Moon, really fast, which I sort of regret. I pulled an all-nighter and read the last 200 or so pages of Twilight in a couple of hours, spending the rest of the morning writing my own vampire story. I got New Moon a few days after that and read the five-hundred something pages in a total of only approximately seven or eight hours. I'm a vampire fanatic, and these books are pretty much perfect for that. The only problem is that some parts of them drove me absolutely crazy; such as
over two-hundred pages without the main vampire character, Edward, in New Moon,
and
that the main character, Bella, has yet to become a vampire
. I'm really hoping for that to happen in the next book, because it really is making me angry that it's taking so long. I might try to get my hands on Fight Club or Party Monster next. My lunch table has a kind of book club, because two of my friends a voracious readers. I'll have to pester them to give me something good.

Otakupedia Entries/Suggestions/Discussion thread
But now I understand what Clurr was saying. I don't think I ever saw that forum, funnily enough.
That's good. And you won't ever see it! >:] That's about the extent of my OB knowledge, though. I'd love to write more articles...if I were qualified. (And of course, being vain and self-concious, I would love to read an article about myself. Lolz.) -
Hm, maybe my interpretation is wrong here...but Clurr's post suggests to me that the Secret Mod Forum was actually on OtakuBoards itself. We've never actually had a forum like this (other than the Secret Yaoi Lounge, which currently exists). If it were made a bit more clear that Clurr is referencing a spin-off, that'd be cool.
Silly! You'd be able to find it if it were a part of Otakuboards itself! :P! I'll edit my post to be clearer. -
Clurr: Shouldn't we keep stuff like that out of Otakupedia? I mean, just so that we don't confuse people. lol
It's really up to you to put the article in there or not; I just wrote it out of boredom. I was hoping someone could edit it to be least confusing as possible. -

Okay, I've decided to write an article...but it won't be just any article, it will be a great reveal of a well kept secret.
OB Spinoffs: Secret OB Mod Forum - Clarity The Secret OB Mod Forum, codenamed Clarity, was a separate message board created by Clurr in September of 2006, inspired by a satirical conversation between the Mods and higher powers. It was promised to be kept a secret from every member who was not a regular Moderator. The board was generally more successful than Clurr expected: sixteen of the nineteen moderators signed up and participated in the bizarre antics that occurred there. Each member was given complete Administrative powers, which led to locking threads, banning each other, changing information, renaming forums, and editing each other?s posts. The crimes committed there included spamming, one-word posts, and plotting to dominate the OB. There are four different forums at Clarity: Secret Mod Lounge, Secret OB Domination HQ, Secret Yuri/Yaoi Forum (stemmed from an inside joke between staff members), and Secret Newbie Lounge. The activities in the threads ranged from conversations with the infamous kuja to reluctantly posted hentai to completely pointless, yet enjoyable, spamming. Clarity managed to reach a total of 129 posts before it quickly declined. Though the existence of the Secret OB Mod Forum has been revealed, it will remain hidden somewhere in the Internet.
-
Who has the coolest song on their Myspace profile?
Claire replied to Jakehammaren's topic in Noosphere
At the moment, I have "The Kill" by 30 Seconds to Mars playing on my profile. In the past, I've had numerous AFI songs, "Of Power" by Son of Sam, "Viva La Revolution" by Adicts, "She" by Misfits, and many others. I'm thinking about changing my song to "Now the World," "Synesthesia," or "Reiver's Music" by AFI...depending on whether or not I can find them. -
I'm probably writing too many of these, but I don't care. It's pretty fun. (all of these stories are rated PG-L.) Night Arrivals ?Bloody hell. Vincent, get down from there.? ?But I can only see the guests arriving from up here!? Edward touched his forehead, his supernatural headache throbbing. ?Good lord, the band hasn?t even arrived yet.? Vincent smiled as a black truck rumbled through the castle gates. ?They?re here!? He grinned smugly from the clock tower window. The Coffins ?Welcome!? Vincent pulled open the round window and flew out of it. The fall was six stories. He landed on his feet unscathed. The driver door opened. ?Hi. Help with the coffins, please.? Four other figures came out of the truck and went to the back. The driver opened the latch. Five caskets, neatly stacked. The Castle ?Beautiful place you?ve got here.? ?Thank you, Mr. Harlow. We?ve owned it for three hundred years.? Harlow scanned the exterior of the castle: black stone, stain glass windows, turrets and a clock tower. Vincent hugged two coffins under his arms and disappeared into the palace. ?Three hundred years. I?ll be damned.? Laughter. ?You are damned.? Sound Check ?Mic check, one two, mic check, three four five.? Wires ran along the corners of the spacious ballroom. The band stood on the short stage. Tuning, practicing, testing. Guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and cello. ?Let?s do Exsanguis Immortalis once through.? Vincent grinned expectantly from the center of the room. Instruments at the ready: count off. Exsanguis Immortalis The music was velvet, like heaven. Soft, mellifluous. But the muse was only hell. Harlow sang in a deep, mellow voice. His lyrics were darker than the night outside and twice as scary. He sang of a bloodless body. A deathless life achieved through dying. A gift given, swallowed then and countless times after. Blood.

I want a lot of expensive stuff that will take years of saving and birthdays and Christmas' to get. That's why I'm only asking for one thing this year (because my 13 year old sister wants a Nintendo DS, for no apparent reason, I think). What I really really want most of all is an iPod. I'm torn between the nano and the video, but my mom has sort of completely blocked out any possibilities of getting a video one. It just seems like the nano is awfully small... I can expect around $60-$90 from relatives, with which I'll probably buy a crapload of music. Aside from the expensive things I want, there are tons of less expensive things I'd like that I could buy. What's the point of saving? =P I'd also really reaaaaally like a 30 watt Line 6 amp with built in reverb (I found an amazing one on Sam Ash's website that comes with phaser, tremolo, reverb, and generally awesome abilities), a sexy white Gibson guitar (if one exists), a Fender Jazz Bass (way too expensive), and several CDs. Those aren't coming anytime soon, though.

I'm back with some new works, and hopefully I'll be able to continuously put out some new lyrics and whatnot. Up the Stairs The bad feelings that came creeping (When I slept safe at home) When uprooted, convoluted Into fear of the unknown But I saw every single scene And watched the missing frames Voices calling, it's apalling How they knew my name I'll shine for you (With second sight) So the dark will run away Glow bright enough for two (no other night) And hear the words you couldn't say I'll shine for you (With second sight) When the monsters sneak behind I'll shine for you (all through the night) Until the both of us are blind The pounding down the hallway The screaming through the sleep A glance behind to only find More promises to keep I hear you saving me. I'm not afraid. And what I saw upon the wall Was just a shadow after all And you said it couldn't hurt me And warned to stay away But promises are meant to be broken While the ghosts are out to play --- (this one could be called a "remake of a classic"). Beyond the Pale Riding through my dreamscape Lucidity consumes us all You've got her all fired up She's at your beck and call Jaded heroes wreaking pain Chaotic lies combust Seeking souls and seeking love In the aftermath of lust If you smile the world smiles with you If you cry, you cry alone If home is where the safety thrives Then only dreams are home Jaded heroes squeezing dry Their medals and their dust They're flying south to keep the warmth They couldn't find through lust If you smile the world smiles with you If you cry, you cry alone Seems the world's a selfish bitch From the safety of my home I don't need all the pity And I don't want empathy My glass remains half empty Just to spite the gravity If you smile, the world smiles with you If you cry, you cry alone Cry alone, cry alone

Has anyone ever been to a concert that seemed like heaven? Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Period. I first heard of them when my dad took me to their concert last year, and I was blown away. This year was even better, because I had a friend with me, it was on a Friday instead of a Sunday, and I had favorites to look forward to. Of course, the concert itself was amazing. TSO consists of 16 members and a small orchestra; three guitars, seven or more vocalists, two pianos, a huge drumset, an a "strings maestro." On top of their huge, godlike sound, they had hundreds of lighting fixtures that shot flames and multicolored lazers and everything of the sort in perfect sync to their music. This year was VERY similar to last year. They opened with Wizards in Winter (the song from the lighted house video that turned into a beer commercial) and went straight into their Christmas Eve and Other Stories album. After the rock opera, they loosened things up a bit with some other songs of theirs, as well as a classic rock song that my dad said was one of his favorite songs. I remember them doing all of my favorites: Queen in the Winter Nights, Christmas Canon Rock, Carmina Burana, Beethoven's Ninth, an insanely powerful Requiem (complete with tons of fire), and the best closer any one could hope for...Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24. That wasn't all that happened. After the concert, my group and I waited in line for about half an hour and finally met the members of the band. I was a little starstruck; I've never met anyone that talented before. Each of them signed the back of my ticketmaster paper, I shook several hands, and my friend told Ana Phoebe that she's a goddess. My favorite member, other than the vocalists and Ana, is probably Angus Clark. Not only is he attractive, but when I passed him, he looked at my shirt and said, "AFI is a good band!" I couldn't really say anything then. And I really couldn't say anything when he offered me a guitar pick. Signed and everything. After the concert, my group and I went to McDonalds, which is a perfect thing to do when you haven't eaten all day, it's 1:30 AM, and you've just witnessed the best concert you could possibly see.

Kingyuki, please don't make threads about specific songs. If you want to talk about Weird Al in general, feel free to make a new thread just for Weird Al. Also, please put more information into your post, such as why you like the artist or show, what your favorite song or character is, and most importantly WHY.
...the opening post is very important. It should contain something to promote discussion. If the initial post is short and spammy, it generates responses like the one you got here.
Thread closed.

Welcome to OB, kingyuki. Your post doesn't make any sense to me, so I'm going to have to close the thread. This thread goes all the way back to 2003...please don't resurrect threads from too many years ago. Peoples' opinions are bound to have changed since then. Feel free to create a new thread if you still want to have a discussion about the band.

I don't know if anyone here is particularly interested in acting, but there is something absolutely amazing about being on a stage and pretending to be someone else. What's even better is when your best friends are in the same production and every rehearsal is like heaven. For the past two summers, I went to a kind of broadway camp my old middle school ran. The only adults were the previous chorus teacher and the technology teacher, who were both favorites of students at the school, and there were about thirty kids participating each year. The first summer, we put on the musical Into the Woods. This was before I was interested in acting; I loved the musical and wanted to be in it. I have so many amazing memories from that summer, and I sort of came out of a little introverted shell. Soon after that, I became obsessed with acting. In ninth grade, I took drama, and was in a tiny play called High School; It's a Concept. There were no important parts, so I didn't really have much to do for that production. It was basically four years of high school tied together in vignette scenes between a couple of people. I remember having such a natural high the day of the performance, I could have probably leapt up to grab the catwalk bars and hang there for an hour. This summer, the camp was producing Annie. I tried out and got the part of Miss Hannigan (the constantly drunk, mean orphanage owner, the best part in the whole show), and that was most definitely the best summer of my life. Being one of the older kids there was nice, but my friends and I fit in with all the middle schoolers very well. I even made a best friend that summer, which is awesome because I don't really make new friends that often. Anyway, being in Annie gave me a chance to really shine on stage, and I was so happy that I could've melted. I love getting compliments from strangers, too. Just recently, I was "in" a production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I tried out for Veruca Salt, and I wasn't all that concerned that I wouldn't get the part until I found out that the vice president of Drama club, a senior, was also interested in it. I basically knew right when she said she wanted the part that I wouldn't get it. And I was right...but I still became the understudy. "Second best," I called it. Not to brag or anything, but on the days I stood in for Veruca, people told me I would've made a better Veruca than the other girl did. I'm extremely excited for the next play, but I don't know what it will be. Any chance I get at starring I'll grab eagerly. I love being on stage more than anything.

Welcome to the OB, dragonlover666. Your post leaves a lot to be desired. I'm going to close the thread, but feel free to recreate it with a better post. To improve your quality, try typing the post into Microsoft Word and running spell check to get some help with spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc. Also, please try to supply a little more information about the topic, such as why you like the Gorillaz, what your favorite song or album is, or a recommendation or review. And only1specialed, I appreciate your interest in helping with my job, but the other mods and I can handle it on our own. If you really want to help the boards, use the report post button. My current title, "The answer is seven," is from the AFI mystery. It shows how much I love the band and everything they've done, I suppose. Maybe it shows how obsessed I am. My avatar is me, so there's not really anything else to say about it. Finally, my signature is something I said in chemistry the other day. A bunch of people laughed, so I guess it was funny. There're links to my myspace and my livejournal in it, too.

The Dark Prince, Your current post quality isn't very good. Please try to fix your post to a point where it has good spelling, grammar, and punctuation. If you need help, you can copy your post and paste it into Microsoft Word and run spell check. It will automatically make your quality much better and thus help this thread maintain discussion and stay around longer. Also, please put just a little more information into your post. What do YOU like about this album? What's YOUR favorite song? Doing this everytime you make a thread will make your OB experience much more pleasant and maybe even longer. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me or any other mod. Enjoy your stay.

I was just glancing around my room when I noticed there are a lot of empty soda cans lying around. This could show that I'm just messy and lazy, but I never realized how big of a soda junkie I could be. It's not just one type of soda. There's Cherry Coke, Vault, and Code Red Mountain Dew. I'd even be willing to bet there's Sprite or Rootbeer cans under my bed from months and months ago. (I'm just afraid to look). I guess it's not some horrible trait I have. I don't drink soda in the morning before I go to school, and I hardly ever have money to spend on the eight zillion vending machines my school has. (A dollar for a snickers bar! That's outrageous!) I'll sometimes steal a sip or two of Mountain Dew if one of my friends has one, just to wake up, but I usually go until I get home from school without soda. Then I'll drink one because I'm tired and thirsty. If I eat dinner before six, I'll have another soda. On weekends, I have at least four or five a day. (Though I can never stay up past 3 AM). I really love all kinds of soda, except diet, and I'd probably drink a lot more if I had more. Right now, I have a box of Vault and Code Red Mountain Dew. I might even have a few Cherry cokes left. The sad thing is I don't plan on cutting back. So, how big of a junk food lover are you?
Courage the Cowardly Dog is still one of my favorites. It had a dark atmosphere, and drew from all sorts of fairy tales and random ideas. It had awesome characters and stories, more than you would expect from a children's cartoon show.
Mine too! I guess I never really appreciated it until they took it off air, though. It's my absolute most favorite cartoon of all time. TV shows don't usually make me laugh (unless it's Fresh Prince or Sabrina the Teenage Witch), but Courage always did. Powerpuff Girls too, I guess, but probably just because my sisters and I once went crazy making fun of it. Neither cartoons are on TV now, and it's really annoying. I also used to watch Ed, Edd, and Eddy, but I must've given it up about halfway through middle school. I don't know why...it was always pretty funny to me, but I remember watching it recently and finding it rather juvenile. Cartoons on TV nowadays are all immature and dumb. Bring back Courage and PPG. =(

Many of you may know that my favorite band of all time is AFI. Some of you may also know that Rasputina is probably my second favorite band. About a week or two ago, I got an email from Rasputina's website announcing some new shows. One of my qualms about Rasputina was that they never came to my state, and most of the time they were just announcing new shows in other places through their emails. So when I skimmed over it, I wasn't really paying that much attention. Then I noticed something along the lines of "We're coming to F-L-O-R-I-D-A!" I didn't give it much thought at first, then realized what it meant. I was so overcome with joy that I could hardly move. Seeing Rasputina in concert is on my list of things to do before I die. Then I looked at the venue they're playing in a city about two hours from here (the closest of their four shows), and my heart sank. It's an eighteen and up only venue. I slowly got over it and went about my life. Then, last night, I was looking at bulletins on Myspace. AFI had posted one titled "AFI to Headline (something something) Orlando "No Snow Show!" Again, because AFI NEVER comes to Florida, I overlooked it. Then I did a double take, read the bulletin, and almost started crying. Seeing AFI in concert is probably my NUMBER ONE thing to do before I die on that list I mentioned earlier. I wanted to go so badly, until I noticed a big problem. They're playing December 1. A Friday. At 3 PM. I don't get out of school until 2:45. I find it hard to believe that my two favorite bands are going to be in the same place within a week of each other and that I can't even go to either of them! The wait hasn't been but about a year or so with Rasputina, but AFI has been my favorite band for three years. And they seriously -never- come to Florida...ever. Either I find a way to go to that show or wait three more years, when I'm out of school and living in New York. Has anyone else ever missed a show or concert they really wanted to go to? Feel my pain. =(

Please, people, keep your post quality as best as you can have it. I'm not saying you should have newspaper article quality in your posts, just that you have basic English class grammar, spelling, and punctuation. If you need help with any of this, you can type up your post and paste into a word processing program such as Microsoft Word, then run the spell check. It will help you make a world of difference in your post.

To those who have to go to school on Halloween, are you allowed to dress up during class? I'm planning on showing up dressed as Davey Havok, but his costume wouldn't be too far out of the ordinary. Last year, a junior came to school dressed as Dani Filth; he had a long red cloak and lots of makeup. That made me smile a whole bunch. =D

I don't know if they're losing their edge as much as we're growing older. I'll use the example of the TV show, All That. Remember the good old days, with Lori Beth Denberg and Danny Tamborelli? When it was actually funny? Did the show itself become boring and stupid, or did we just grow up and realize how boring and stupid it is? (I don't remember where I read that which I just paraphrased, but I think it makes a good point). So, did CG movies become dull and repetitive, or have they always been so, and we just realized it with age and maturity? Another point, though, is that I'd still watch 2D Disney movies if I really felt like it. Those are timeless, and I still love them even though I'm fifteen. (Except for the ones I hated when I was younger. I still hate those). So, does the growing-up-and-realizing theory only apply to CG movies? As for movies with CG effects, I haven't really seen that many. I know my friend was putting down League of Extraordinary Gentlemen because it used "way too much" CG effects. I don't care about that, and it remains one of my favorite movies. Though it's probably just cos' of the vampire. I wouldn't be the person any movie company using CG effects should ask on the subject, though; the last movie I saw in theatres was the Producers last year, and there really hasn't been anything new that has interested me. All my most favorite movies were made in the 80s and early 90s, and that was when CG technology wasn't as good.
