My high school has this morning program called G-TV, and one of the segments focuses on current events in the world. I remember, one of the stories they covered spoke about "The death of Anna Nicole Smith's husband of nine years." I took it as her husband died at the age of nine. I would've laughed if anyone else had appreciated it.

What do you do when the power goes out?
Claire replied to CyberPandaLove's topic in General Discussion
It's strange. I live in Florida, so we've been getting a lot of hurricanes over the past years. But not once during all of the storms has the power gone out! I consider myself lucky. Of course, the day after the hurricane, the power goes out for ten minutes, comes back on for five, goes back off for ten, and repeats the process. The power has never really gone off for very long. Normally, if I'm feeling silly, I'll scream, and my sisters will scream as well. It usually comes back on right after that. Once, during a very bad storm (just a regular seasonal storm), I was using the computer and a huge spark just flew out at me when a loud thunder clap boomed. I don't think the power went off, but it was pretty scary. I thought I was gon' die! If the power went off at school, we'd stay in the same classroom until it came back on. Nearly everyday I prayed for the power to go off in third period (my drama class) last school year, and it never did. Bah! We would've just sat there in the dark, getting hot, feeling hungry, sensing cabin fever. Oh, that would've been lovely. -
Welcome to OtakuBoards, Kenataro. In the future, please use search engines (google, yahoo, etc.) to find things you're looking for instead of coming here. Asking for song lyrics won't generate any discussion, and is thus considered spam. I know it's not mentioned in the rules just yet, but you should ALWAYS look to Google or another search engine first. Other than that, enjoy your stay at the OB. boku tachi wo ikiru hodo ni thread closed.

It's official: I am going to be Miss Hannigan in a production of Annie! I'm also planning on doing several things to usher in the summer with my friends. With "Pareix," I want to ride bikes to CiCi's pizza, eat lunch, and play in the arcade. With "Ambuh" and "Bacchus," I want to go to Johnny Rocket's and pretend it's the fifties. I really want to have party with all my friends sometime soon, but I don't know when that will happen. Other than that, summer is going to be just how I described it before.

I seriously detest racism. I make racist jokes sometimes, but only in an endearing (as much as possible, anyway) manner, and I always make sure the subject of the joke knows I was kidding and that they weren't offended. My friend and I were "playing pretend" in drama yesterday and Tuesday, acting like people from the south in the 1930s. We would say things like, "Them negros be gettin' jobs at the gas station. I might as well ride my bicycle!" But we were only acting. In real life, I don't care what color or ethnicity someone is as long as they're good people. One of my friends, Amber, saw a post on one of the message boards she frequented about how "all Arabs are terrorists." I talked to the poster, and they were extremely disillusioned. They said things like, "My mom said that they're all terrorists." I tried to be as polite as possible, but they just didn't understand the racism behind their views. The only time that I might be a little bit racist is when I'm around the people who dress in the current "gangsta" clothing and listen to some of the absolute worst "music" in the world ("gangsta" rap). I really don't like those people. It's not because they're mostly Spanish (or some other hispanic/latin ethnicity) and African American, but because they act like complete and total arrogant idiots. And because so many of them are like that, a lot of people think the whole entire race is full of arrogant idiots. I know very few people with a hispanic background that don't act that way. It makes me feel like because they were born hispanic/black, they feel they have to be "gangstas," "thugs," or whatever the heck they're calling themselves. I don't think racism will ever stop, though. Kids with racist parents are going to grow up racist, have racist children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and so on. Unless the kids have sense enough to not listen to their parents, the whole family tree is going to be racist. It's completely absurd, and it's going to go on forever. However, it's not like only white people can be racist; even though I've never been prejudiced against. Native Americans can hate caucasians because of mistreatment in the past. African Americans can hate caucasians because of mistreatment in the past. The Japanese can hate caucasians because of mistreatment in the past. Jewish people can hate Germans because of mistreatment in the past. Everyone hates everyone and it just won't stop. Why can't we all just get along? Because I have white skin and they have brown. D-U-M-B Edit - I just remembered. One day, when I was studying for my American Government final exam, I looked in the back and saw a chart of the percent of a group of people who voted for Bush in the 2004 election and the percent who voted for Kerry. For "White Men," it had a very high percentage who voted for Bush. But for African Americans, 88% voted for Kerry. I circled this info and wrote "LOL." I hope whoever gets my book appreciates it as much as I did.

I'm eagerly waiting for AFI's new album, Decemberunderground. They've all ready got a single out from this album ("Miss Murder") and I can't stop listening to it. I've loved AFI for two years, and I've tried to listen to all of their music. I'm really excited to add a new AFI album to my collection. Plus, Davey Havok is just so adorable, and sexy, and handsome, all at the same time. I can't help but eathimupwithaspoon.
Did I do it right?
Oh man, that movie was so funny. At least, what I saw of it was, and that was from the
scene in the gym
to the end. I remember doing this all the time several years ago at my grandpa's house. Actually, I never did Bloody Mary, because I was too scared she'd actually show up. LOL? My friend knew all these weird chants you did in the bathroom to make weird stuff happen. Like saying "candyman" three times and flushing the toilet was supposed to do one of the following: -show the "Candyman" in the toilet -make bubbles -regurgitate
poo
The bubbles worked, but that's because we flushed the toilet. The girl warned us not to sit in the closet and chant "Oh Captain Jones," because she thought a person at her school did that and they never came back. :twitch: One of the "ghost callers" that did work, though, was "Six Scratches." One person would lie on their back while another rubbed the person's temples and told an impromptu story in which the person lying down is in some sort of accident and gets out with six scratches on their back. What comes out is not actually scratches, but red lines in various places all over the back. There are supposedly six, after counting, but I'm not sure if it's really true. Then again, I don't really believe in spirits.

Welcome to OtakuBoards, CyberPandaLove. The current post quality in this thread isn't quite up to our standards. It's fine that you want to share your musical interests, but please give us an explanation as to why you like the music you do. And "It's very good" doesn't count. How does it make you feel? What are the lyrics or instruments trying to convey? How did you come across this music? Answering questions like that are your best bet when it comes to threads like these. (Enjoy your stay, CPL) ---- I'm not really into Japanese music, but I absolutely adore Yuki Kajiura's music. I first heard it on .hack//SIGN, and it drew me into the show (it remains my favorite anime of all time). I'm an aspiring composer myself, so I can look up to Yuki's work. It amazes me how talented she is. My favorite songs are "BT," "Grandpa's Violin," "Labyrinth," "A Stray Child," and most others from the .hack series. She's just a really great composer who worked on a really great show.

What do you think your signature says about you?
Claire replied to shadowpimp's topic in General Discussion
My signature says that I love the song "When I Was a Young Girl" by Rasputina, and that I have a livejournal and a myspace. I think it's about time to change it, though, so if I do, this is what it said at the time I posted this message:
Originally Amelia's Signature prim prim this a way prim prim that a way
-
I don't play favorites with just one album, but I'll follow the rules for once. I'll probably just come back and name another of my favorites later. I've listened to AFI's Black Sails in the Sunset about twenty times in the past two weeks. One of my friends gave it to me for Christmas in 2004, and I didn't quite like it as much as some of AFI's other works at first. Now that I'm more into horror/punk and rockabilly, I always turn to this CD (even though it's not those genres. It's similar). I can listen all the way, Strength Through Wounding to the hidden track, Midnight Sun (which starts 10 minutes and 28 seconds into track twelve), and I never get bored. Highlights of the album are..."Malleus Maleficarum," "Clove Smoke Catharsis," "the Prayer Position," "At a Glance," "God Called in Sick Today," and "Midnight Sun." I envy the passion that went into the writing of the lyrics, and the skill and talent that made the instrumentation. I'm a lyricist/guitarist/aspiringcellistpianistdrummist/composer myself, so I can really look to this masterpiece for inspiration. I love most of AFI's other albums, too, but I'd say this one is my newest favorite of theirs (even though it came before my other two favorites, which were first Sing the Sorrow and then Art of Drowning).

I like longer albums, because when I go on six hour car trips with my family to some old hick town in the north part of the state, I mainly listen to music or watch DVDs. The shortest album I have is All Hallows EP by AFI, which lasts about thirteen minutes with only four tracks. It was only $4.99, and I love AFI, so it's still a very nice CD. I'd like for albums to last at least an hour, unless one is filled with songs I'd rather not listen to (such as on Flyleaf's self-titled...I really like three of the first four songs, but after that, there's not much else for me). I just love my music, long or short.

Oh boy, you have more video games. They kidnap you and keep you hostage in your room. You have to play them all the time. You miss school and the only exercise you get is when DDR rips you out of Soul Calibur's clutches. The video games will never let you leave or stop playing, so that's what you do the rest of your life. You forget about your friends and they forget about you. Your captors are the only things you care about. Step it up, step it up. I wish I hated meat products.

Becoming a mod hasn't stopped me from reporting poor posts, though it feels weird for me to do it. It's probably just because I'm a point of power doing something that a regular member has to do. As for the pre-member quiz, I think it would be a good idea. I heard of an MMORPG that made the people who signed up for it take a grammar quiz, and if they failed they were not allowed to play. Maybe OB could utilize something like that, or have the person signing-up type a brief statement as to why they want to join the boards. However, this might deter someone who just wanted to sign up for something to do when they're bored or intelligent conversation, who might happen to have very good grammar and post quality. Otherwise, I don't see too much of a problem. I don't think the moderation should be so strict that we end up without any remotely fun threads. I can see it now: hot topics in the Otaku Lounge are "Government," "Corporations," "Space Travel," and "Golf." Wait, those are the only topics in the lounge. I really don't want that to happen. (It's horrible, but I wish that the poor posters and spammers would come to my forum so I could work harder. =P)
Some people even started a petition to get Rent as the one of our productions next year rather than Cats.
I don't think it's likely that it will happen. Schools have to be able to buy rites, and I haven't seen any Rent rites available. If it's still on Broadway (I know it's on tour), then you probably can't get the rites. Other than that, the subject matter is such that schools probably won't be allowed to do. I really can't envision a high school production that features
a bunch of people with AIDS or HIV, including homosexuals, transvestites, and previous drug users struggling to survive in Bohemian New York.
Just to set you at ease, heh. I like Rent, but I've only seen the movie. My friend brought me a Rent pin from New York City when she saw it on Broadway, so I wear it on my jacket. I really like pins. It just annoys me when people see it and go, "I like your pin!" Meh. I recently saw Bye Bye Birdie done at my school and it was amazing! I don't know how I'd like a film version, but Musical Theatre really pulled it off. The kids acting and singing in it were extremely talented, and I was jealous. At least I'll be in MT next year, and I'll be able to perform (probably in Throroughly Modern Millie, which I've never seen).

I suppose the first two weeks of summer will be spent doing nothing. If it's not too hot, I'll ride my bike to the library every so often. Around June 19, I'll start going to a summer camp where'll I'll *hopefully* learn the role of Ms. Hannigan in the musical "Annie." Camp lasts for a little over a month, ending on a strike the set day, which will probably be July 17. Three days later, I turn fifteen, and I hope to have a nice little soiree with some friends. I'm not sure what we'll do yet, but my parent's birthday present is the camp and I'm not getting anything from them. The last few weeks of summer will probably be spent just like the first; I really want to get a summer job, but I don't think anyone will hire me for two weeks. I might be eager to go back to school by then, because I'll be a sophomore in Musical Theatre next year. I expect my family is going to go on a vacation sometime, but I really hope we don't. I hate vacationing, because all we ever do is go to the mountains in Georgia (can you say cabin fever? bears? heights? major sinus problems?), my mom's birthplace of what might be the smallest town in this state (there's one traffic light in the entire place), or the beach, which I hate. If we went somewhere exciting like New England or Canada, I'd be eager to go. Ohshwell. We have a laptop now, and even though it won't have internet in a cabin in the mountains, I can still kill Sims or make horrible horror movies in...the Movies. Summers are usually not so great, but after this school year I can't wait for it to arrive.

I spice up "lol" whenever I use it. In replacement of the useless letters, I add some flavor to the otherwise meaningless characters and let the other person know that what they just typed was funny. There's a whole family of new "lol" phrases. For example, a mild humor is "lolz," whereas a gutbustingly hilarious quote gets a "lolzasaurus rexington." In between there lies "lolzasaurus" and "lolzasaurus rex." Sometimes I don't use the reptilian version, though. Sometimes I use the "Roller" set. "Lollerskates," "Lollercoaster," and so on. Maybe it will be "rofl," but used as "rofflecoaster," "rofflecopter," or just plain "roffle." Finally, as an in-joke between some of my friends and I, there's "lolzasausage." If I'm laughing to hard to coherently type any of the aforementioned alternatives, I'll do a "LOLZFHISDHFS!!" or some other variation of randomly typed capital letters. But of course, I'll always type the onomatopoiea of laughter - "Hahah!" - if I feel suited to. I can do any of these spontaneously, and they don't really fit to a certain genre of conversation. Add some flavor to your IMs with the Lolboosters? today! I use any of those in real life at any given time, too. I don't think it's possible for anyone to speak them in place of laughing, though.

What's the point of having a cake if you don't eat it? It's just going to sit there for all eternity, molding and rotting and becoming even more useless than before. If you're going to have cake just to have cake, you might as well ship it to India, cos' people are starving over there. I don't even like cake. Maybe we should change it to muffins or Chinese restaraunt. Bah! I don't care, I'm going to both have cake and eat it, and still have it, because I do what I want. I suppose cake is a metaphor for baby. You can't have a baby, then eat it. (Actually you can, but you shouldn't). They put people in the electric chair for that. Anyways, the phrase has been logically dissected and proven, I guess.

Manga What's the weirdest manga that you've read so far?
Claire replied to darkartic's topic in Otaku Central
FLCL was the weirdest one I've ever read. I've only looked at the first one, but I had absolutely no idea what was going on. I knew the show was insane, but I adored it because of it. I admire the level of spontaneity that the author could keep up through the whole first book. My own manga, "Mega Peachy Academe," is also pretty spontaneous. I remember the very first chapter was about me and my boyfriend having to fix a VCR in the media center at our school (which never happened) and ending up setting it on fire. I also drew a bunch of Christmas chapters starring my friends, Nightwish, AFI, and Marguerite Moreau, and it was absolutely nonsensical. (If anyone is interested in the aforementioned bizzarities, page one is here and page two is here. They read right to left and are rated G. The quality isn't so great, though). -
