1. It maybe that I'm somewhat cynical, but the first reason that came to mind for this is so that if a kid gets kidnapped or raped because of myspace or any of the other websites banned, the libraries and schools can't take any blame for it or have to pay any charges because any exchange between the victim and the predator most certainly did not happen on their premises. My school all ready banned myspace anyway, as a part of their internet block. Some computers were still able to get on it, though, which is rather bizarre. You can't do a google image search, or play games, or check email. I was able to get on the OB once from school, and I used to update myOtaku from my second period class when I was in eighth grade. Now I used Livejournal more, but I can't get on LJ from school. I think I was really close to getting into my email once, by going to the Japanese Yahoo! page, but I don't think I made it in. Anyway, since all these things were already unavailable at school, it doesn't really bother me that much. But one of my best friends doesn't have a computer at home, and she's going to a completely different school than I am. She would go to the library to get on myspace so she could communicate with me and our other friends. If they take this away, I'm hardly ever going to be able to talk to her, aside from the phone (which I don't really like using all that much). Myspace was great, because I could leave her a comment about something and wait for her to see it. Now that's not going to happen. FTW. (not "for the win" by the way).
2. I'm sorry if it came across like I was for introduction threads. I don't see a point to them and I don't understand why people feel the need to make themselves known. I just had a small idea for consideration.
3. The saddest movie I've seen would probably be Big Fish. I rented it one day because it was a Tim Burton movie, and I remembered wanting to see it when it first came out (however, my mom thought I was probably too young or something). The story was amazing, regardless of a semi boring start, and the end made me cry like Edward Bloom was my own grandfather or something. Also, Life is Beautiful is very sad, yet hopeful. I think most movies about the Holocaust would be tearjerkers, though. I might've teared up during Tea With Musselini, even though that's not directly a movie about Nazi Germany.
4.
We already have something like this. It's called a user profile. :p See, the idea goes like this:

A new member joins.
During the sign up process they fill in their profile with some info about themselves, or they edit it in shortly after.
The new member posts in a thread and introduces themselves while joining in on the conversation.
Everyone in the thread can see they're new, and they can click their screen name to see their profile and learn a bit about the person.
Both mods and members live happily ever after without having to deal with spammy introduction threads.

You know that's not the case. =P. Regardless of user profiles, we get introduction threads anyway.

6. On the subject of introduction threads, today I had a slightly reasonable idea. It could make old, new, and in-between members satisfied all at once. Instead of having on thread for introductions, or being subject to countless locked intro threads in the lounge, why don't we sticky a single thread for everyone's intros or bios or whatever they want to post in the lounge? Then you don't have to worry about separate threads clogging up the forum sections. I know people are encouraged to introduce themselves by posting accordingly in threads, but this might be a good way for some members to get to know each other better
(similar to the mods' Knowing Me Knowing You Thread, only open to everyone).
Just a thought. =)
7. Okay. It's not a weathered tome. It's not even a short story. I'm just mad that I couldn't use that title for a new livejournal. I did, however, write some new "poems" that I don't mind putting up. It might help to know that I've been unable to write anything remotely good for a really long time, and that a sort of depression has powered these works. #1 How could something beautiful dig deep into my skin? How could I feel fine awhile while letting pain sink in? How could I forget this love and let it slip away? How could I hold back the tears I saved for closing day? How could someone hardly there make me break down and cry? How could something not alive make me want to die? How can I just wait for life to carry me away? Now I'm fighting back the tears I saved for closing day. #2 Everyday I'm battled to the point of desperation. Now I'm weakened in my own exasperation. I lay stretched across the floor intent on someday waking. Fully knowing without hope I'm at the point of breaking. Everyday I'm rattled with the fear of never leaving. Now I'm weakened in these thoughts of things I'm not acheiving. If only I could play along with visions of succeeding. It's too late as I am trapped in a cage of just conceding. They don't have titles yet, because they're young. In time, I'll probably think of something fitting for them.
8. This is not the place to ask for wallpaper. If you can't find any on google, then post a request in the Art By Request forum, found in the Art Studio. Please refer to the Rules if you're confused about anything. Thread crow'sed.
9. I love TSO. I was lucky enough to go to a concert of there's last November and it blew me away. I'm hoping to get a band together to play "Christmas Ever/Sarejevo 12/24" at my chorus' Christmas concert this year. I'm also planning to go their concert again. I have Christmas Eve and Other Stories, Lost Christmas Eve, and Beethoven's Last Night (though it's not really my favorite). They're extremely talented; if you thought just the studio recording was something, then you should see them live. They have a lot of light works and pyrotechnics, as well as amazing stage presence. 10. Last weekend, I was Miss Hannigan in a production of Annie. It's a pretty big part so I needed a lot of rest. Unfortunately, that was not a possibility. I was sleeping soundly after the opening performance and wild cast party, until something cold slipped from between my toes. I awoke and saw a frog fly from my foot to my blinds, try to crawl across, and fall to the floor. Now, I'm way girly when it comes to animals such as this, and the only thing I could do was gather my pillows and run to my sisters' room. I was so nervous then that I couldn't go back to sleep. My sisters woke up and stayed up with me, but then we heard something in the hallway. It sounded like something was hitting the wooden floor. I figured out that it was the frog, hopping. Eventually, it hopped into my view, and I panicked. A horror movie soundtrack started playing in my head. Then it disappeared, into what I figured was my bedroom. Needless to say I was paranoid about going in there the next morning. So, the next two performances and the cast party happened on Saturday, all of which exhausted me. I wasn't going to sleep in my room because I thought the frog was in there, so I bunked with my sisters again. I snuck into my room for a few minutes to get some clean clothes and took a shower, then went back to my sisters' room. Of course, we're quite rowdy when we're together at night, and I ended up laughing so hard that I needed to use the bathroom. =P. I went in there, sat down, and noticed a grayish lump of trash or something near the sink. Panic creeped over me as I realized it was the frog. I figured it was dead, because it had been in my house for who knows how long and probably had nothing to eat. That would've been bad enough, because dead things are creepy, and frogs are already on my list of creepy things. I was just sitting there, unable to move, breathing heavily and whispering for one of my sisters to come save me. Then the frog moved, and the whispers turned into screams. It was jumping everywhere, and I was freaking out. Finally, my mom came to save me by hiding it under a newspaper as I escaped. I still had another performance to do after that. Oh, what a night.
11. I know of a German band called Helium Vola, but they're more electronic/goth than an actual band. I'll be surprised if anyone here has even heard of them. I know a lot of German goth bands, actually. KMFDM or MDFMK are more industrial than HV, but their lyrics are English. (Actually, I think only a few members of those bands are German, but the band itself isn't). The other two foreign bands I like are Nightwish and Apocalyptica, which are both Finnish. Nightwish is symphonic metal, and they recently fired their singer. Personally, I'd recommend their Century Child album if you're into that sort of thing, because it's my favorite. Their most recent album, Once is quite different and has an actual orchestra. And of course Apocalyptica uses CELLOS.
12. I'm going to say #9 is the PM system.

Lady in the Water

I think I actually want to see it. The commercials scare me late at night, but my friends and I have this inside joke where the Lady in the Water trailer comes on right before an Oxy Clean Commercial (whispering to screaming...this phenomenon has yet to happen, though). It seems like it could be a movie similar to The Shining (which I thought was hilarious) in that there won't be much, if any gore. I don't really like swimming pools, anyway. =/
14. Recently, there's been a commercial for some sort of car cooler, and it's abso-freaking-lutely ridiculous. There's this woman who climbs into her car and is just dying of heat. She stupidly wraps both hands tightly around the steering wheel, makes a face of anguish, and opens them in pain. Their propaganda didn't work because I had no desire to buy the car cooler thing.

Halo Movie

I'm going to close this thread, because I don't see any room for discussion. There's a whole year in between now and the release of the movie, so I hardly think there's any valuable information to talk about. "I really want to see it!" is not fit for conversation and any talk about the game belongs in the Play It forum. The post quality is also quite horrible. Please read the Rules (http://www.otakuboards.com/rules.php?) before posting. Finally, the message board isn't for personal conversation. If you want to talk to one person in particular, use the private message system or outside programs such as AIM, Yahoo!, or e-mail. Thread closed.
16. I'm sick of people associating the term emo with people who are angst-ridden, constantly sad self-mutilators. I don't know ANYONE like that, and I've never seen anyone like that, ever. Not even in a completely cramped high school. All the people with "emo" haircuts and the girl pants romp around laughing with their friends. And those people are the hottest ever. =) (Davey Havok. istheloveofmylifeholycrap).
17. Some commercials are so bad that they're hilarious. I really like the one for the singing coach thing where it shows a guy and a girl before they used the product, both singing very badly, then after...not singing much better (apparently, they think a voice is good when it's riddled with vibrato). I laugh every time I hear America the Beautiful now. I also love the parts where they show the guy singing for his family at Christmas, the guy singing for his wife, the family singing on the couch (cos every family schedules singalongs as bonding times)...it's ridiculous. The commercials that really annoy me are for FMU (a college around here...so I don't know if anyone else has seen them), where a girl is like "You've seen the commercials, yet you're still sitting there! WHY haven't you called yet?! What will it take!?!" Or the one where the teachers are dragging a graduate out of the classroom and he's whining, "Nooo, I don't wanna go! I didn't think it would go by so fast! I want to stay here and learn more!" I really liked the Ernie the Klepto starburst commercial, too. I thought it was hilarious how Ernie kept stealing things from the other guy and he never even noticed. Lawlz. Then there's that creepy skittles one with the bearded guy...eeew. The infomercialish ones are always hilarious. They make something look so much harder than it really is, such as the one for the collapsible tupperware where the woman opens her cabinet and all of her tupperware comes tumbling down upon her, or the one advertising the pasta cooker thing where the woman is pouring the noodles into the collinder and seems to purposely spill it all over the place. I remember one for a hair dryer stand with an older woman (who apparently has arthritis) trying to blow dry her hair and brush it at the same time, and was struggling to do both and control her elbow pain or something. The Bedazzler commercials are stupid, too. Does anyone else hate Willie Mays and his annoying Oxy Clean Shout? Sometimes I really want to buy what the commercial is selling, though. If you're interested in their item, then their propaganda is working. =(
18. Someone actually beat me to AFI. The world is ending. But that's okay, because I actually have not one, but two favoritest bands. The first, at the moment, being AFI (of course). My friend got me into them when I was in seventh grade (by making me watch the Girls Not Grey video and playing This Celluloid Dream ten times in a row at 3 AM), and I finally made her get me a copy of Sing the Sorrow. I listened to it constantly and they very quickly overshadowed Evanescence as my favorite band. A bit later, I found all their videos on Yahoo and obsessively watched them, which introduced me to their older stuff. The same friend gave me Art of Drowning, and also Black Sails in the Sunset. I got All Hallows EP for myself, since it was only five dollars. I got Decemberunderground the day it came out, and after a few listens I became obsessed with it. I often sit at this computer for hours, playing my entire AFI collection through on iTunes. I'll even play God Called in Sick Today three times in a row, because it's amazing. Not only is their music the bestest ever, but...Davey Havok is the most sexybeautifulhawtprettyawesome man ever. I'd like to Catch a Hot One! Rasputina is my second favorite band. I used to be crazy obsessed with them too, and I'm sure I will be as soon as their new album comes out. The cello is my absolute favorite instrument, and that's the only instrument besides drums that they use. Melora Creager, the frontwoman, is the COOLEST WOMAN ON EARTH. All her songs are either funny, pretty, or poignant, and most definitely fun to listen to. I'd say my favorite is Leechwife, but I adore The Olde Headboard and Diamond Mind especially (because it very very accurately portrays the jewelry industries view of women). The only problem is that neither of these bands are coming to where I live on tour. :( Coincidentally. I'm listening to AFI right now. God Called in Sick Today, in fact. Also, I'm in an AFI tribute band called Por Siempre. We can't do much anything right now, but I'm planning on playing at a Battle of the Bands next year.
19. I really love ghost powers. Invisibility/transparency, nonsolidity (I do believe I made that up), flight, immortality, etc. I think it would be amazing to pretend to be a ghost at will. I could scare people out of their minds with ease! Other than that, super saiyan abilities are supa cool.
20. One of my best friends pestered me about myO for a while when I was in the seventh grade. I never really did anything with it because I don't like to be pestered. Eventually, I read some of her posts and became extremely interested in the journalish nature of myO, and I signed up at the aforementioned friends' house. I became faithful to it for at least a year, though the second year I spent way more time on Livejournal and hardly updated myO at all. I've kind of given up on it now, but I've suddenly been inspired to update it. I miss the old post box... Oh, anyway, the same friend kept talking about a message board she went to, and I assumed she meant the OB (which she didn't). I came here and signed up (more than once, I might add, due to a horrible memory), but it wasn't until several months ago that I started coming here regularly.
21. Please keep the post quality the best it can be, okay? Responses like "I love that show" or a list of your favorite and least favorite characters won't add to any discussion, which will cause the thread to go downhill. If you need an example of a good post, look at The Boss, silver_blade, Box Hoy, and Momiji Love's replies. It doesn't have to be a million years long, but it has to add to conversation, mmkay?
22. When creating a thread like this, please explain what you like about these bands and tell us about your favorite things they've done. It would also be a good idea to explain what kind of music they make, so that in case some hasn't heard of them they could look them up. Pleeeeeaaase do that, or else these threads go downhill.
23. Ireland > Ulster > Volcanic Activity > Triton (moon) > Astronomy > Galaxy > Dwarf Galaxy > Large Magellanic Cloud ---- Are the six maximum links including the orignal article and the destination article? Because then this wouldn't count. =( Connect cello to toothbrush.
24. Since this thread doesn't serve much purpose, and it seems the original poster got the answer they needed, I'm going to close it. Thread Locked.
