1. I'll be brief with this... the principle's view is very bad.. but unfortunately is shared by many (do NOT take this as a way of saying 'I agree with him, cos I don't ;)).. not that that makes it better, it just makes the world as a whole worse.. I'd say more, but I'd just be repeating both these and other peoples' words..
Originally posted by Voodookanaka so what your saying is we dont see the dreams like say for instance, watching tv, but rather the dreams are mearly implied to have happened?
I dunno, I mean, I've had a fair few dreams where I 'remember' stuff, but when I wake up I think.. 'that never happened'... it's like in the dream I have a memory that's specific to that dream... OK... that's about all I can say while still making some sort of sense.

OK.... time for the second instalment... sorry this is taking so long... strange things are happening around here that I won't even go into... P.S. A little bit of self criticism... I think I switch between different points of focus too often, and don't describe anything in enough detail, what do you think? (still chapter one) Ka Nhara On a planet in the far reaches of the galaxy, the very border of known space, was a civilization named the Ka Nhara. They had not yet reached beyond their own planet, and at the time had no intentions of doing so, as their planet was engulfed in a massive was between two continents, which had been building up for centuries. On one side of this war was Resis Noth Karula, one of the higher ranking personnel of the continent of Amura ('Resis' signifies this rank). Karula looked out from his window, watching over the battlefield. Flashes could be seen everywhere, partly from gunfire, but mostly from bombs, dropped onto the enemy troops. The battlefield was ablaze with fire, whenever a flame disappeared another took it's place. Amid the wailing of bombs dropped from above, and the constant rattle of gunfire, were screams of pain, anger and fear. The only thing to muffle this was the occasional sound of an explosion. Before long, the huge moving mass of bodies began to lessen. Resis Karula could feel that their numbers were falling. A few seconds later, a messenger confirmed this. 'Resis Noth Karula?' "Yes", Karula replied in a voice, deep and imposing. The messenger hesitated, then quickly said 'Our numbers our falling, the enemy have the advantage' "And...." 'And the Regis wants you to help them', he quickly finished. The Regis, similar in sound to Resis, was another military rank, though the Regis never did any actual fighting, and only decided on the fate of lower ranks. 'Finally', Karula thought to himself, 'those bastards are going to see why I am the Resis here', he smirked, looked out of the window, and uttered "I hope you are ready..." The Resis in Action The transport craft slipped through the air of the valley, quiet and unnoticed. There were three other men inside the cabin with Karula, all of whom were aerial troops - soldiers dropped from above, directly onto the battlefield. Their eyes, though intrigued, never so much as glanced at Karula, in fear that he may be staring back. They had all heard stories of his battles in many wars, though Karula was by no means unique. Every planet had their version of Noth Karula, all legends n battle, but each of them suffered the same fate. Although Karula could feel something terrible coming, he had no idea of the magnitude of it's evil. They were almost directly above the battlefield now, and the soldiers were getting anxious. An artillery was heard firing from the ground, but nothing was thought of it, for it was a common sound at the time. Then, an explosion rocked the cabin, and the craft started to fall. Karula ordered the soldiers tojump out of the craft, and they did, after a moment's hesitation. Seconds later, their parachutes slowed their descent. Meanwhile, Karulatried to help the pilot, but when he found him, the pilot was beyond Karula's help. The shell that hit the craft did so directly beneath the cockpit. Karula leapt out of the craft, seconds before it crashed to the ground. Karula landed in the middle of a field, only a few hundred metres from the edge of the battlefield. He saw one of his enemies, that faced away from him, and sprinted towards him. When Karula was 5 metres (about 15 feet for those of you that are unsure ;)) away from his opponent, he turned around, but it was too late. Karula sprang into the air, and whipped one leg around his opponent's torso, then drove the knee of his other leg into his opponent's skull. His opponent died instantly. Karula unsheathed the kalatu blade (a sword crafted by himself, unique in design) and ran towards the main battle next bit should be up on thursday ;) provided that no more strange things happen... hey.. one of you knows what I mean..
 5. ... The only pranks I participated in were funny yet harmless... Like one time in highschool, I recorded my brother saying 'help... let me out... I'm stuck in the cupboard...' and random variations of that same sentence, for about 2 minutes... then, I altered it using Sound Forge to give it a reverb effect, and just generally make it sound strange... THEN... I recorded it from the computer to my minidisc player... put it in a cupboard with some computer speakers.. (I left 20 minutes of blank recording before the actual recording started), and 20 minutes later, the whole class heard (help, let me out... I'm stuck in the cupboard...).. not a single one of them didn't laugh ;)
 6.
Originally posted by Sephiroth looks like we have a brainiac on otaku, lol.... I used to think he got the name from the pc game, deus ex, or something....
actually you are partly right... OK... here's how I actually got my name... FIrst.. I played on Deus Ex... to which my reaction was 'Great game.. wonder what Deus Ex means, though..' Secondly.. I read a book.. which one, I forget... but the point is at some point in the book someone says something about a Deus Ex Machina.. and I thought 'hmm... Deus Ex.... Deus Ex Machina... that word gets everywhere, dunnit?' So I proceeded to see if it even got into the english dictionary, and it had.. and just after I realised the meaning of Deus Ex Machina, I decided to re-register on Otakuboards, seeing as it'd been such a long time since I'd been here (actually, about 4 months), and I'd already found out that my old name didn't work (though I had no idea why.. I wasn't here when v2 went down), and what better name to use than... Deus Ex Machina! So there's the story... I honestly had no idea about the meaning of Deus Ex Machina until days before I registered here.... and then, later, I found out that it also means 'God from Machine'.. which I was pleased about ;)
 7. Hmm.... My solution to such problems when I was in high school, is a little inappropriate here.. but I'll say anyway.... reasoning doesn't work.. they bug you because they want you to ask why, so they can unload some insults on you. Ignore them and they think they've won. I tried ignoring them for a while but it didn't work (though when people bugged me, it was for different reasons)... so eventually, I just walked up to one of them, grabbed them by the neck and told them to leave me alone.. it worked wonders back then, though these days, kids seem to know their 'rights', so I wouldn't recommend it now... Plus.. you have to kind of be the right 'proportions' for that to work effectively..

 11. I can see it now- hundreds of otakuites coming to see this thread on religion just to say 'this thread will probably get closed'.. Before I continue, I just want to make one thing clear- this is NOT a religion vs science thread, or indeed any thread which questions the validity of religion (but then again... we all saw what happened to the 'what would you ask god' thread) You see... this last week has been a bit strange for me.. my mum's boss, also a dear friend, has been dying for a few weeks now.. last june he was diagnosed with cancer and given 2 months to live. A lot of strange things have happened recently... but that's not the point here. The point is that as a result of these strange things, and of my mum's boss/friend's beliefs, my parents have now turned christian.. in fact, they turned christian months ago, and I never realised. They told me yesterday, to be honest I don't think it's quite set in yet. My parents have always been anti-church, because, like most people against it, they see it as a form of control, and they generally don't like the church because it is very anti-anything other than what is considered 'normal'. However, they never were anti-christian, and respected christians' beliefs as anyone elses. Now- the real purpose of this thread. My parents told me that there are essentially two types of christians (this may go for other religions too, but I won't comment because I don't know ;)). Please note: as with all generalisations, these are two extreme examples, and there are bound to be countless people between the two extremes ;) , so don't think that I'm saying 'there's only two kinds of christians' ;) Firstly, there's those who wear their beliefs on the outside, they spread their beliefs, go around convincing people to join their religion, but inside they are incredibly shallow, against everything not considered to be normal, or against their own beliefs. For example: My grandfather fought in the war, and one of his friends was shot. He needed to phone an ambulance for his friend. He came to a house, knocked on the door, and it was a catholic household. He asked if he could used the phone, and the owner asked if his friend was catholic. He said no, so the owner of the house did not let him use the phone and his friend died. This put my grandfather, a religious man, off the church for life. Secondly, there's those that actually believe fully in their faith. They go through their lives, aiming, as my mum put it 'to try and hurt as least people as possible'. They never advertise their beliefs, only talking about them if asked. Most of these people are not even known to be christian. My mum's boss/friend, now deceased, is one of these people.. I could go on for hours about his kindness and so on, but it's the sort of thing you have to see to believe, and fully understand. My mum worked for him for 6 years and never once knew he believed in his religion so much until a few months ago. I think you can probably tell that this is the main reason why in some cases, there is such hatred towards christianity. Not hatred as in not wanting to believe in the religion, but hatred as in hatred towards the church and it's ideals. Those who truly do not judge people never advertise their faith, so although there is a lot of negative feelings towards those that are extremely prejudiced, there may be a great deal of positve feelings towards those that aren't, but that isn't associated with the religion.... I hope that some part of this post made sense... My opinion at the moment is: Anti-church, Pro-christianity, though I still do not have a religion I believe in ;) .
 12.
Originally posted by BabyGirl It means exactly what that definition says.
:wow: :wow: :wow:.... somebody who... understands my name... *faints*... It also refers to such events in real life too: 'a sudden solution to a seemingly unsolvable problem' is one of the definitions I've heard. PS- in case you weren't sure- the second bit I referred to was-
1697 J. SERGEANT Solid Philos. 136 Nor is it at all allowable in Philosophy, to bring in a Deus è Machiná..... ..... ignores the real similarity of artistic purpose that bound him to the group
(be thankful I didn't quote the whole thing ;)) I have absolutely no idea why that got into the definition (but before anyone comments- I do realise that it's a list of examples in quotes).. but I left it in anyway ;)
 13. I haven't got it yet but it's on the list of things to get ;) ... along with mgs2... and Deus Ex.... and no doubt lots of other things... >.< goodbye, money....
 14. OH MY GOD!!!! everyone's so young!!! and I is 19! 7 years I had to put up with the 80s, and most of you lot missed it... 'Tis enough to make me go mad!!! oh wait... it already happened :freak: Anyway, I don't personally remember a lot about the 80s in particular.... I must have a mental block on that bit of my life..
 15. Time to re-post something that was in my sig long ago- the oxford english dictionary's meaning of Deus Ex Machina- oh yeah, it also means 'GOD FROM MACHINE'!! A power, event, person, or thing that comes in the nick of time to solve a difficulty; providential interposition, esp. in a novel or play. 1697 J. SERGEANT Solid Philos. 136 Nor is it at all allowable in Philosophy, to bring in a Deus è Machiná at every turn, when our selves are at a loss to give a Reason for our Thesis. 1840 BARHAM Ingol. Leg. 135 This was, however, no less a personage than the Deus ex machinâ,the illustrious Aldrovando himself. 1857 TROLLOPE Barchester T. II. xv. 292 Doctor Gwynne was the Deus ex machina who was to come down upon the Barchester stage, and bring about deliverance from these terrible evils. 1873 HOTTEN Slang Dict. 223 Mary Ann, the title of the dea ex machinâ evolved from trades-unionism at Sheffield. 1889 A. E. CALDWELL Schopenhauer's System ii. 62 If you assume in every brain a spirit like a sort of deus ex machinâ, you ought to concede a spirit to every stone. 1928 C. I have no idea what the second bit's purpose is, though I thought I'd leave it in. I prefer the old meaning I used... not too sure which dictionary I got that from...
Originally posted by Kittie i just put it as Kittie... but that's my real name anyway!
Are ya sure 'bout that, kittie?:D

 20. for those of you familiar with the RPG thread I started, this is the promised story thread about what happened before we start in it (I still need at least 3 people ;) ;) ).. I'd like any feedback anyone can give about how I can improve and such.. I've already changed it a little... unfortunately the 'chapters' were too short.. averaging on 1 page of A4 paper.. and not alot in the post... so I've merged them into bigger chapters, with little subheadings where the old ones were... anyway... here I go.. I'll post it up two parts up at a time ;)... (because that's about how quickly I write it ;)) Chapter 1: The First Armageddon DAWN The Dawn of the Universe. Nothing is know of the first few million years after it's creation, nor how the race, named 'Arkali' came to be during this time of unstability and chaos. Many used to speculate that they were older than the universe, some went as far as to say that they created the universe, though no such speculations are made anymore. The Arkali themselves are now only remembered by a few, whose family lines have passed the memory down for generations. The word 'Arkali', though, is not entirely meaningless. The empire of Arkali, formed by the Seven Emperors 400 years ago - toppled 70 years later - may now be a bad memory, but a memory nonetheless. Even in the days of the Arkali Race, Little was known about them. An unusual race, only 35 of them existed, and though they had accomplished and learned much in their vast lifetimes, they never made any attempts to contact any of the other races in the galaxy, despite the other races' constant attempts to contact them. In the billions of years of their lifetimes, they had accumulated vast amounts of information about the other races, despite this lack of contact, but one day, both they and the other races disappeared without a trace, though their home remains, preserved in the darker corners of the galaxy. The story begins five billion years ago, twelve days before their disappearance... DISCOVERY He walked through the halls of the building, towards the leaders' room. The walls of each hall were all beautifully crafted by the priests, with extreme detail and precision. The priests had always said that the new races, however great they become, would never craft anything to rival these halls, because their mortality gives them impatience, they have no time to spend on absolute perfection. These words, though true, meant little to Daotun now, as there were more important matters to attend to. He opened the large, beckoning doors to the room and stepped in. The walls inside were covered were covered with swords and an array of other such blades, each one crafted by the warriors. Though the warriors never actually fought, their whole lives they trained, and crafted their own weapons, most of which served no purpose and quickly became ornaments. There was a man behind the desk in the centre of the room. He looked up, "Yes, Daotun?" Daotun remained silent for a few seconds, and then replied, "I have terrible news from the mages. They say that they have sensed an evil presence-" Before Daotun could finish the sentance, the man interrupted- "There is always an evil presence. What makes this one worth our attention?" "It's not one of the other races.. we know that... We have reason to believe that it originated from outside this universe" The man, named Dranat, stayed silent for a while, pacing the length of the room. When he was finished pacing, he replied, "What magnitude of power does it possess" "Greater than ours, sir" "Do you know", Dranat said, worried, "of anything that can be done?" "No sir" was the reply "Then it would appear that drastic meansures must be taken..."
Originally posted by () I hate war movies...Could be because I hate war
I hate war too, but I think it is good (in a way) that producers are willing to make movies trying to depict a more realistic view of war, sometimes even depicting real events. I don't actually have a favourite though, I've never got round to watching one.
