Firstly... I know I go on about this game an awful lot, but Deus Ex for the PS2 appears to have retained most of the things people loved about it for the PC.. I'll make a summary of what I've read about it in certain mags... it comes out in the UK next week, Friday the 29th of March.. 1) The first play (apparently) clocks up to 50 hours normally - should be enough to even keep Seph happy ;) 2) No multiplayer mode, although the makers did want to add this. The Ion Storm team took nearly a year learning to program for the PS2 as well as bringing the game over.. 3) The menus have been done from scratch. Nearly everything can now be accessed from the main screen, rather than having lots of menus to wander through.. 4) All the original items have been retained, except for the laser sight modification, which never worked the way they wanted it to, so they left it out. 5) Some of the maps in the original have been fixed, as they didn't play as the team hoped they would. 6) The character animations and cinematics have all been revamped, and NPC/item placement has been reworked to accomodate for the system's needs. All in all, the game has all the features of the PC original (If you didn't play that, then it doesn't really matter anyway), and from the footage I've seen of the game in play, although there is an auto aim feature, the old 'stand still and point at the enemy for longer and your shot is more accurate' feature is still there (meaning that you have to actually aim carefully for a good shot). Which is good. Second part: Ico This game looks great. Ico would've completely passed me by if it weren't for the PS2 official UK mag, so I'm glad I got it.. From what the mag says, the plot is deeply involving, (and doesn't have the ridiculous plot twists at the end of MGS2), apparently 'Within one day of playing Ico you will be absorbed beyond all reach'.. It's not like most of the adventure games we're getting for the PS2 lately, this is more of a puzzle type of adventure, with a few combat elements, but it is notable that on the screen, there are no power or health bars to be seen. All I can say is... this game looks unbelievable.... it comes out in the UK tomorrow, so I'll be getting it and I'll write a little opinion of it on monday... Third part: GoDai... All I can say is... once again I'm thanking the PS2 UK mag... for including the demo of this game on the disc... Now I know to look out for this game and stay away at all costs... some of you may have a different opinion, and I respect that.. but I find it highly doubtful that anyone could love this game... I started it up, just out of curiosity more than anything, and my first reaction to the intro sequence (imagine the worst possible sarcastic impression of a ninja, and that's what the enemies sound like) and my first reaction was-- you are taking the cake... well.. not 'cake'... but you know what I mean... and the gameplay wasn't better either, when the guy jumps, he err... jumps, and the floats down towards the ground... the combat sequences were'nt that much better either... I thought 'surely I'm missing something here'.. then I turned to their review of the game... 2/10... so maybe I wasn't... anyway.. my verdict.. do not buy this game until you've played a demo (or the actual game) first!!! you have been warned....
Originally posted by kizu I don't agree with that. I guessed and well I didn't do to well. I got a   12:laugh: . But thanks for doing my test. But not enought. I got 50 or above in most peoples tests just by guessing.. but my test.. heh.. someone has yet to beat the top score of 24... Here are the questions no one has answered or guessed correctly: What do I study at university? What is my IQ? What is my favourite game.. ever? What is my favourite movie... ever? When I get stressed I: Which of these have I done before now: Which of these am I a member of: And no one has got the 10 point answer on: If I could introduce a new law what would it be? Though you've all got some points on that last one..

Yeah, cool dog u got there ;) ... but NOTHING can beat my cat... she does the wall of death up sofas.. seriously.. I'll post up a pic of her tomorrow..
Originally posted by asar Einstein said that time is relative, and as this theory is yet to be proven untrue, from his Theory of Relativity the following hypothesis has been drawn. If you take identical twins, and send one of them in a spacecraft around the sun, and the other remains on earth, tthen when the spacecraft twin returns to earth he will be younger than the one who remained. I guess this is a form of time travel....
First point there is correct, time is relative, but the example of the two twins, known as the Twin Paradox, is not actually a form of time travel. What Einstein proved with his theories of relativity is that time is a dimension that is not independant from space. He proved that time is all dependant on your inertial frame, if you move very fast, time will appear to go faster than if you remained still, hence if one of the twins travels around the sun (note: this must be done at speeds near to the speed of light) then more time appears to have elapsed for the twin that stayed still. We can argue about the fact that the stationary twin did not actually stay still, being on a moving planet, but that is irrelavant. The absolute position (Position relative to the universe) is unimportant, only the relative speeds matter. Anyway, my point is, this isn't actually a form of time travel, but a matter of perspective. Einstein also proved that there is no real absolute time, as we have already proven that time is dependant on other things.

This post is gonna take a while...
Originally posted by DeathKnight Most of them drink to get numb the pains of whatever they are dealing with.
I disagree there... it may be different for most people that you know, but the vast majority of kids that drink at such a young age do so because either theyre not allowed or because their friends persuade them to- because theyre not allowed. I'd say the same goes for drugs, but in the case of drugs it's more that they start out that way but end up being dependant on drugs. In the case of alcohol, this is the case for most people who drink to numb the pain.. it's all down to dependance.
Originally posted by James Kids who drink underage (as in, 13/14 or so) make me utterly sick.
I dunno, I personally think that this is a bit harsh, given that they all have varied reasons.
Originally posted by DeathKnight If you want the quality of our actions to improve, you should go to the source. Its a thing called 'Life'.
The main problem is that drinking doesn't solve these problems, it just takes you away from them for a brief moment... OK.. maybe that moment of peace means a lot to you but the problems are still there, you end up no better, sometimes even worse off, than you were before... like you said, the problem is life. Life needs to be sorted out, not ran away from. Of course, there are certain cases where this can't easily be acheived, and if that's the kind of situation you're in then I am sorry, though I still believe that facing up to the problems provides a better long term solution to the problem.
Originally posted by DeathKnight Most likely every kid that grows up and gets to drink early and all that isnt trying to be cool. If they are, they are dumbasses. They have prolly seen things that they have nightmares about for years to come.
Sorry, but where I live at least, this isn't the case. Not only do these kids drink and smoke early, and take drugs, but they'rs also the ones that go round killing other kids, and I don't mean anything like a few kids with guns.. I mean a few kids gang up on one and- you really do not want to know the details... or if you do, then I just don't want to continue. OK.. I accept that some drinking kids really do have problems, but the vast majority just cause them.
Originally posted by SuperSayian Hell, I've even had a psychiatric evaluation. Trust me, therapy DOES NOT help.. Therapy is four things.. 1) A waste of time and energy. 2) Universities trying to get money out of students looking to into a lost cause. 3) Just some person babbling about nothing. 4) A good way to get perscription medications that people just use to get addicted/killed.
1) Yeah, that's probably because you don't see a fault with yourself, and so refuse to be helped... either that or you refuse to accept that you can be helped 2) And what is beating up a fence but a lost cause? While you're beating up that fence, they're trying to get you to stop it, surely that's the better of the two... 3) So are most people if you just dismiss it as that 4) Perhaps so. I'm not really too sure on that one

I know exactly what you mean, the rock is one of my fave movies, and I'll just say now.. I've heard a lot of music from games and movies which sound a lot like this... an example is Jet Force Gemini.. OK.. no part of it sounds like the intro music, but the general atmosphere of the music is the same... I also know the exact part of the music you thought sounded like MGS2, the first few notes are exactly the same, then it varies a bit... but I can't say any of it reminds me of music in FF8.. anyway, my point is... a lot of music sounds similar to that used in the rock... I'm not sure which, but one particular film, by the soundtrack you'd think it was done by the same guy as who composed the music for the rock (I forgot his name)

Oh well... I'll have to sort it out by meself... it's better that way anyway ;)
Originally posted by Sephiroth as for MGS3, I believe that if they do decide to release it, then it should be on the PS3, there is no point in releasing it on the PS2 apart from a new story, I really do not think they can change the graphics much the PS2, plus the game would become more revolutionary on the PS3....
Probably so... though I hope they don't make just one metal gear game for each sytem they make... mind you, saying that, it's probably better that way than making too many and start being unoriginal.. They could get away with it with FF cos each game is individual, but not with a continuing story like Metal Gear. Off topic: Hey seph, are you getting Deus Ex for the PS2? It's out next Friday..
I've given that some thought and all I can say is... you lost me there... three different timelines? why only three? Why not an infinite number each with an exact time displacement (i.e. each one is at a slightly different time to all the others... plus, how do people in the past timeline know that they're in the past... surely it's their present, so they must have a past timeline, too, which makes 4 timelines... follow this kind of logic and you'll either conclude that an infinite number of timelines are needed, or you'll become very confused.... :drunk:

Well, I can't confirm this, but I've heard that Raiden is a one-off character.. however reliable or unreliable this info may be... I liked the whole thing about Raiden's past, and his character, but I think it could have been told in a different way than the whole love story.. I don't want to start a new thread, so I'll ask here... how in hell are you supposed to get the dog tags in the tanker, the ones that belong to some of the marines in the cargo holds?? cos that's really been bugging me, I can't find the right marines.... well... I can find one of them, on Very Easy mode...

In light of time travel I'm gonna give it a definite maybe. OK... here goes... most people know of the most famous time travel paradox around 'What if I decided to go back in time and kill my dad... if you actually try to think about this you just end up going crazy, so there's only two possible solutions as far as I can see- EITHER you can go back in time/forward, but what you do has no effect on your timeline, or you can't go back in time.... or perhaps you can, and you can create a kind of paradox and then god only knows what will happen. That is my opinion... I'm afraid nothing is known on this area though so it's pure speculation.
Originally posted by Angelus_Necare I think europe knows what it's doing, I mean they lower the drinking age so there isn't an awe of mystery about it. young people in this country drink underage because it's something you're not supposed to do it gives you a rush because, "he, he we're not alowed".
I understand what you're saying, but that just eliminates the awe of mystery for people over 18 (the legal age here).. the main problem is the kids around that start drinking at 12 or 13.. and you're right... they get a rush from it cos they're not allowed... same with smoking.
Originally posted by Sephiroth like was said by deus ex, after beating olga go into first person mode and look at her, and then call otacon and they will talk about meryl, apparently the relationship didn't work out, showing that the good ending in mgs1 where you withstand the torture chamber was in fact the true ending....
Another note on that point: and also a SPOILER: when you get your clothes and weapons back after being captured, snake says 'if you run low on ammo, you can have some of mine', then after that, he points to his bandana and says 'Infinite ammo'... and which ending did he get the bandana in? :smirk: ... also... on a side note:
Originally said by Crazy Colonel Campbell I hear it's amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on Hara-kiri Rock. SPOILERS
Originally posted by Mstyrios WX 6.MERYL ISN'T IN THERE!*SPOILER* She isn't dead, said so offcially by Hideo Kojima.(Then whta's with the ending of MGS1 when you don't with stand the torture?)
If you look at Olga after beating her on the tanker, and call otacon, snake will say during the conversation 'I've had enough of tomboys'... so maybe it just didn't work out.. ;) I've finished the game now, and I enjoyed it, though I thought they should have concentrated less on Raiden's so called love life.... One of the best parts is the whole 'Crazy Colonel' bit... that was hilarious... though I didn't understand the bit before fighting solidus, about that consciousness in the White House or whatever that was on about  ...
Originally posted by Sephiroth I listened to everything that was said, codec, fmv, etc, I used no guide and started the game on normal mode, and I got stuck on that stupid bomb part for ages, I couldn't find one of the bombs....
Was it the one behind the locker door by any chance? I knew what I had to do there, but it only works if you stand at the right place by the locker... so it bugged me for ages, til I finally figured out how to close the door. I beat vamp this morning. I was expecting a little harder, as in... psycho mantis kind of hard.. to be honest al the bosses (so far) have been far too easy.. I beat them first time I tried.. that never happened to me in MGS1, except maybe when you fight Ocelot.

It's been a while since I actually played MM.. I did all the things in the Bomber's notebook, got nearly all the heart peices... I think.. but didn't get all the faeries from the temples... but one thing bothers me.. after finishing it, I noticed that there was room for one last weapon, on the weapons screen, in the bottom right corner, above the bottles... I was wondering.. is there a weapon that goes there... or is it just an empty space, I spent ages searching for this last weapon, and then eventually gave up.
-
I got it on friday too, at 5:26 pm.. mere minutes before the shop was about to shut.... damn buses... anyway, I haven't quite finished it yet... Seph, where do you get all your time from? I need some too! I'm 10 hours into the game, just after you beat the Harrier for the first time (Maybe the only time, but I'm not sure yet ;) ), perhaps I'm going a little slow... but I beat MGS1 in 7 hours first time... spaced out over a few days though.. I've noticed that the atmosphere is a lot different.. it doesn't feel as dark, I think.. I dunno, it just doesn't feel the same as the first game... And as you said, seph, the bosses just aren't the same either.. I've only beaten fatman, but it didn't feel like fighting psycho mantis, or any of the others from the first :( .
Originally posted by James This goes back to what I was saying to Masterfork about FPS games on PC being merely "visual updates with predictable gameplay". This doesn't mean that games like Duke Nukem Forever and such will be bad as such...but they will be predictable. I bet you can already assume what they will include. Games like Goldeneye really demonstrated what can be done with the first person perspective. While Goldeneye didn't do anything so radically different, it still opened new doors in storytelling and gameplay for first person games .
And then, there's Deus Ex.. .. sorry..
