1. 2 things. First of all, I want to know your definitions of a reality show. For some reason, a lot of people tend to think of any live show as a "reality" show. American Idol, for example, has been called a reality show. I think it's more of a "live televised contest" like the original Starsearch or something. Second, what do you think of reality shows? Is it just a fad? Have they always been here and we just started to notice? Good? Bad?

True Hip-hop?

Just because nobody talks about old school hip-hop, that doesn't make it garbage. That just makes it so old that kids don't talk about it all the time. A song doesn't become bad when it gets old. I'm not saying that you should stop listening to current rap (there's no way I could get you to), but at least look back at some of the old stuff and take a listen to what all of your favorite rappers are talking about. Besides, new artists take lyrics and music from older songs all the time. If new rappers use old lyrics, they had to be good, right?

True Hip-hop?

Bouncer, you were only born in 1989, so exactly how often do you get around to hearing old school hip-hop? Why do I get the feeling that the only De La Soul song you've ever heard is "Ooh" and you wouldn't know Run DMC if they smacked you across the face with a pair of Addidas? Ask any rapper today, and they'll tell you that some of the best hip-hop came from back in the day. Who do you think Eminem, Xzibit, DMX, and 50 Cent listened to when they were kids? No one can say they know a lot about hip-hop without knowing its origins. And if you knew its origins, you wouldn't think old school was garbage.

True Hip-hop?

How dare you call old school hip-hop garbage! You're exactly what's wrong with the industry today; you and people like you who bad-mouth the classics. You can't take 50 Cent and Eminem without at least knowing Run DMC (I mean actually listening to their songs, not just saying R.I.P. Jam Master Jay), DeLa Soul and Beastie Boys. Without DJs like Jay, there wouldn't BE producers like Dre around to lift up the careers of people like 50 Cent and Eminem. Old School hip-hop is not garbage. It's a lot better than some of the shallow, self-involved, materialistic crap I see on BET these days. How about you stop and actually listen to some of the "old Scholl" lyrics before you go and make checks that your hip-hop newbie arse can't cash. Now excuse me while I calm down.
5. That's one genre I sorta listen to that I always forget to mention... K-pop. Everyweek, I watch Music Video Heaven on the international channel, and they show only Korean music videos. I feel kind of weird talking about K-pop, because, well, I'm African-American. I'm one of the last people you'd expect to listen to K-pop. And that's where that darned image/appearance thing comes in, again. I should have no problem talking about K-pop, but I always feel nervous about it because I'm not Korean.
6. Wow. I was actually pretty impressed with the decoy-mp3 tactic. I download music all the time, but it was kinda funny to see an artist do something besides complain or slap somebody with a ridiculous lawsuit. I'm sure it must be frustrating for some of her fans, but I have to admit, that was pretty damn clever.
7. Would you like to see a closer link between OtakuBoards and sister site, theOtaku.com? Yep. There's not enough TheOtaku exposure around here. They need a stronger bond. Would you like to see OtakuBoards open an affiliation program with other message boards? Probably not. I don't see the point. Do you feel that theOtaku.com's chat system should be linked to OtakuBoards? Oh, yeah. Also that you should get a different chat system. I can't seem to use it. Are you satisfied with the level of spam control on OtakuBoards? Yes. It's strict enough, but not too strict. Anything else might cause rebellion :cross: Is it more important to have a large variety of skins, or smaller (and higher quality) range of skins? Smaller range. Definitely. Would you prefer to have anime/gaming-themed skins or completely original works? I like the occasional anime/game skin on a message board, but I'm gonna have to go with "original works." Do you actively engage Moderators and Category Moderators if you are having problems on OB? If you would've asked me this a week ago (before I got modded), then my answer would be "rarely." Are you satisfied with OtakuBoards' child protection policies? My one objection is the word a--. Unless someone gets to flaming, the word is only used as a syn. for one's butt, or possibly a donkey.
8. I stopped reading American comics when I was about 11 years old, so when I started watching anime at 14, I became hesitant to pick up any kind of manga. A couple months ago, I went to Waldens and bought Tenchi Muyo vol. 1, my first manga. Since then, I've going to Borders and reading in the store. The other day, I picked up (and by "pick up" I mean "picked up and put back on the shelf after reading") a manga called Rave Master. It's only the second manga I've ever read, and I finished both volumes in the store. It's also the first manga I've read from right to left. I'm hooked on manga, now. Darned Tenchi and Rave! Going to Borders and reading manga. I now have something to do for lunch everyday.

MTV Punk'd
Originally posted by Alexus Bing I really liked it when Malcolm, from Malcolm in the Middle, I don't know his real name, but they stole his Porsche, and he was angry. Does anyone know how old he is?
Malcolm's real name is Frankie Muniz. That one was funny, though. He should be thankful it was only an MTV prank. He could've really lost a car.
10.
Originally posted by BlueGender I feel the movie may ruin his whole hidden camera show at that, before he wasn't well known but now that he has a movie out more people are going to recognise him(much like what happend with the Tom Green show).
That already happened to him on one episode. Jamie and Melissa Joan Hart were X-ing this one girl into believing that she was helping Melissa Joan Hart out on her new talk show. When Jamie walked in the room as "Melissa's boyfriend, the producer" the girl automatically said "You're Jamie Kennedy!" They had to convince her that he wasn't really Jamie Kennedy and that he only looks like him, then get on with the prank. They had to show the prank the first time with that part editied out.
11. I remember hearing that Madonna has several decoys of her song online. If you try to download her song, you might get ahold of a fake. I'm sure that must be frustrating for dial-up users who try to download it.
12. I read a review somewhere that this movie would probably be decent if it were only 30 minutes long. That's telling you something. So I'm not planning to see this movie. This type of movie should've just stayed as a TV sketch... sorta like all of Saturday Night Live's movies.

New Movies

You know, I don't see where this thread can go, as far as everyone naming movies that are already being discussed in other threads. Thread Closed
14. Earlier today, I found myself in Borders. For those of you who don't live near a Borders and don't know what it is, Borders is a book store/music store/cafe. Anywho, I waltz over to the Graphic Novel section and saw a manga called Rave Master with a picture of a rave (party) on the front. I picked it up, realized it was volume 2, put it back, and found volume 1. I went over to Borders' cafe area, bought a Mochaberry (note to self: mochaberry bad, get smoothie next time), and started to read vol. 1. It's pretty good, really. It's not at all about a rave, but a lot of stuff is music themed by name (The continent of Song, a smith named Musica). I might just go read the second volume tomorrw afterschool. That's what I love about Borders. If I don't have any money, I can just sit there and read in the store. So, have any of you read it before? What do you think? I'm not really big on manga, so talking this is a first for me.
15. I'm not a big fan of this show. I've tried to watch it several times (my brother is really into it), but I guess I'm just tired of the Superman franchise. After watching 4 movies, 2 animated series, and 3 TV series (yes, I watch Nick at Nite), I just can't sit through another adaptation of The Man of Steel. I can see why people like it, though. It's a good show. I'm just a little supermaned-out. Maybe if they make a Supergirl or Superboy series...
16.
Originally posted by dr.septagon I went to see the play in LOndon and I thought its was quite good! But making it into a hollywood film and having catherine zeta jones, renne zellweger and richard gere as the main singers?:therock: come on ! They cant act or sing! LOL :mrt:
Catherine Zeta-Jones isn't that bad at singing... and that's the only one I'm going to defend. ;)
17. Akira Toriyama has some pretty one-dimensional villains in DBZ. Unless they eventually become a good guy, the villain will have almost no depth. There's only a few exceptions (ie. The androids are just programmed that way) No one even comes close to justifying their actions. Your average villain usually plays a whole spectrum of emotions... from A to D.
18.
Originally posted by Super Gohan But the thing that really pissed me off was the tournament mode! I still haven't got the great Saiyaman. I get to the last round of the tourny and think i'm fighting someone real easy and they come straight out kick my *** and knock me out of the god damn ring (even thought it's on very easy!!) And Buu and babidi was on the cover but you weren't able to play as them (it's be funny playing as babidi!!)
Um... Buu and Babidi aren't in this game at all. Not that I know of, anyway. :cross: Let me tell you a secret to beating Tournament mode... (highlight to view)
Go to Edit Skills mode and select the slot where your memory card is (slot 1 or 2). Now go to Change Caps. Go to your favorite character (although I suggest Krillin or Kid Gohan because they're so short). Give them the 4 attacks you use the most, and then equip them with Viral Heart Disease and Vaccine. Using both of these will make your opponent's health slowly drain during a fight. Ok, leave Edit Skills mode. Now, go to Options mode. Set the game timer to 30 seconds. Play Tournament mode as the character you just gave the Viral Heart Disease and Vaccine, and put them on Custom. In every fight, all you have to do is last 30 seconds without getting a Ring Out, and you've won! The Heart Disease and Vaccine will drain your opponent's health faster than they can beat you up. When the timer ends, they'll have less health than you and you'll win! If you don't have Viral Heart disease and/or Vaccine, then either play Story mode until you get them (Story mode gives you support items and attacks randomly whenever you win a fight), or buy them as Support Items or Recommended Items in Popo's Shop.
Trigun
Originally posted by Forgottendeth Trigun will most likely be ruined by pitful dubbing that Cartoon Network does so well.
Cartoon Network doesn't dub anything. They only edit the shows for television. All of the voice-overs are done by different companies. I can't believe how many people get that mixed up. Anyway, I really like this show. It has that serious tone that comes from an action series (which it is), but it suddenly breaks into off-the-wall humor like any comedy series (which it also is). This show goes on my top-anime list, just below Slayers (which got a higher rank for having more episodes). After I get myself a job (still waiting for them to read my applications and call), I'm gonna buy the box set. Apparently, it must be worth it.
20. I don't really like "American Life." The song, that is. I haven't heard the album. I might preview it next time I'm in Borders. I'm actually pretty interested in what her video looks like (the original version, of course). There's a lot of controversy around it, and since I don't get offended by music videos easily, I really want to see what's so special about it.
21.
Originally posted by WW2 Angel was also supposed to have a cameo but his part was cut out. The producers didn't want to spend too much money on the special effects to do his wings.
How could they cut out Angel's cameo? He was one of the original X-Men! They could at least throw in a quick scene of him with his wings folded or something.
22. Nightcrawler is my second favorite x-man, so it's good that he's going to be in this movie. Also, Beast is one of my favorites and I'm glad they're tossing him into the movie pre-fur, even if it means a 3 second cameo. I just wish they'd throw Phoenix into one of these movies. The previews and commercials look pretty good. Now that some of the central characters are developed, they can concentrate on the intense-looking story and the younger x-men (Rogue, Iceman, and Pyro). By the by, isn't Pyro supposed to be a villain? Or at least start off as a villain?
23.
Originally posted by Syk3 Ai, I must not have played the game that long, but can someone fill me in on these "Planet Destroyer" attacks? If it's anything like what I'm thinking, then it should be pretty fun to do. ^_^
Certain characters have certain attacks that are so powerful and big, they warp your stage beyond recognition. For example, if you perform Goku's Spirit Bomb/Genki Dama attack on the planet Namek stage, the sky will turn brown and cloudy, all of the land will disappear except for the tiny patch you're fighting on, and the oceans will start to sink (just like when Goku and Freeza were fighting). Most stages (except for the room of spirit & time and the World Tournament arena) will leave all planet-life dead for miles and a giant crater in the ground. Takes away a third of your opponent's life, too. Destroy pieces of the planet with these attacks... Goku - Spirit Bomb Teen Gohan - Super Kamehameha Vegeta - Big Bang Attack Trunks - Burning Attack Cell - Spirit Bomb Freeza - Death Ball (I think) Android 16 - Hell Flash Hercule - Present For You (very funny. Involves an explosive device)
24. Grrrr! I had a talk with someone the other day who talks about how he can't wait for Matrix Reloaded to come out, but he's never even seen the first one the whole way through. I said he should watch it again, and he said: "I don't want to. All I need to know is Neo is the one and they're fighting the Agents." I went on to explain that there's about 1,001+ lines of subtext thrown into the story, and how he should read about them and watch the movie again. I've tried to tell him that The Matrix is more than just an action movie, but he only watched it half-way the first time because of the action. He honestly doesn't give a darn about the double-meanings of the film. What's worse is that this guy wants to be a film maker. I guess I should tell him that with that attitude toward films, he's only going to make it as far as a camera-man.
25. mu·sic__(myoo`zik) n. The art of arranging sounds in time so as to produce a continuous, unified, and evocative composition, as through melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre. Okay, so maybe rap isn't music, in the sense that it usually involves very little melody and harmony. What's where the Hip-Hop/R&B combo comes into play, but rap by itself is hardly music. Rap, vocally, has no harmony or melody. A person can sing a capella and be considered music. A rapper cannot call his or her performance a form of music when there is no instrumental (be it real or synth) backing them up. The music used it rap, however, is still music. Be it with real instruments or synthesized by sound-equipment in a recording studio, a rapper is usually going to have a background of noises consisting of "melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre" (see also: music). Rap is not necessarily music (as opposed to singing, which can be considered a form of music) by itself. The music used for rap is, well, music. Not everyone may like it, but it's still a form of music.
