Alas, I'm relatively mediocre with everything I'm good at. Everything I think I have a talent for, the next person is always 10 times better than I am. I suppose that would be a good excuse to try harder, wouldn't it? I like acting and performing. I can be pretty jittery and nervous before a performance, but I tend to thrive on the audience's lack of booing at me. I'm currently taking an acting class, so I'll hopefully be a lot better at it someday. I feel kind of nervous about auditioning for anything, because everyone else at the audition has something I don't have: experience. I also think I can do a pretty good English accent, but I have no idea what part of the UK my fake accent comes from, and I'm sure plenty of OB members from the UK could see right through it.

Matrix/Reloaded/Revisited (oh, and Animatrix, too)
Manic Webb replied to Shinken's topic in Noosphere
Scroll down about half-way down the page. There's already a Matrix thread to talk about all of this in. Topic Closed -
I saw it a couple of times. The one with the babysitters is hilarious. One of those sitters needs to learn not to let little kids go away with strange delivery guys. I wonder why Hits left BET. Well, MTV's prank show is a lot better than BET's, anyway.

Sounds like somebody's knocking the music of hip-hop. I personally listen to a lot of rap for the music. That's why the producers who make/arrange the music for rappers are just as famous. Dr. Dre, The Neptunes, Missy Elliot, Timbaland, Rockwilder. These are some of the most famous producers in hip-hop. The music may not appeal to you, and that's okay. But a lot of people actually like the music. In fact, I once had to have a discussion with somebody about why they should start paying attention to the lyrics of their favorite songs instead of just rocking back and forth to the music.

IcyBunny, please put a little more effort in your posts. I've only heard a clip of the song, and it doesn't sound too bad to me. I'm not a big fan of Sheryl Crow, but I can usually tolerate most of her songs. And Kid Rock singing a somewhat country song doesn't seem that unbelieveable. Like Justin said, "Only God Knows Why" is one of his greater songs, and that one is pretty country-ish. Kid Rock has always been sort of a rock-rap-country blend. Anyway, I guess I can't give a really vidi opinion, since I haven't heard the whole song. Still, what I heard was okay. Not very good, but not very bad either.

Ah, sweet Voltron. I really liked watching that show when I was little, and I was happy when Cartoon Network brought it back for a short while. I don't remember any cars, though. I thing I do remember (and really disliked) was Voltron: The Third Dimension. That show was so boring, and they had nothing new to offer to the Voltron legacy.
Originally posted by SSJ Gotenks ok Mc disses are battles and are a part of hip hop. It's too see who is a better mc!Some of you guys make it seem like a big problem. And always using big and pac as a example. But there death didn't have nothing to do with hip hop.Mc's use hip hop battles as a way of fighting would you rather have them shooting and fighting each other on the streets personally i like battles and disses we get to see how much skills a real mc has.And if you dont know everything about the hip hop culture and only know what u hear and see on tv.Then i think you shouldn't speak up on hip hop.:D
My theory on the whole Biggy and Pac thing is that somebody else took their lyrics too far. I don't think the two of them killed one another, but I think somebody listening to their lyrics took them seriously when they kept dissing each other. That's why I blame dissing, not because 6 years later some oddball lawyer has "secret evidence" that he got from a "secret source" that "proves" Biggy set up Tupac's murder. And until somebody comes back from the dead (be it Tupac, Biggy, or even Jesus himself) and sets it straight, all I have is my theory. The other reason I don't like rappers constantly dissing each other is because they usually have no real reason behind it. I mean, when you get Busta to lose his cool, you've gone too far. I think Ja Rule is doing it all for attention, not to express any real grudge in the form of rap. I mean, let's face it, Ja can't rap.

I think the movie looks alright. I've always been a sucker for wire-fu movies, and Chow Yun Fat is one of my favorite Hong Kong action stars. The only problem is that the movie looks like it may lack in something, I don't know, interesting. The plot just doesn't appeal to me. I may or may not see it. I saw Shaolin Soccer a few months ago. I loved that movie, especially the scene at the end with all of the people in the streets.

I really like playing as Hercule. He's the funniest player in the entire game. Half of his attacks make him knock himself out (actually, it gets kinda frustrating to constantly lose my High Tension after using his "planet destroyer.") Another thing I really enjoy about the game is the ability to travel around the stages. I think you can knock your opponent all the way around planet Namek and back until someone uses a "planet destroyer." I used to like Burst Mode, but now it's a real problem for me. I like to rotate the analogue stick with my palm, and constantly falling into Burst Mode mid-battle has taken its toll on my hand.

I didn't know which board to post this in (DragonBall or Sony) but after I saw a closed thread about Ultimate Battle 22 in Sony, I decided that this board would be best. I recently bought DBZ Budokai for the Playstation 2. It's not the best fighting game I've ever played, but I think the gameplay is a lot better (and faster) than any of the past DBZ fighting games. Combos come a lot faster and easier, and most special attacks involve very little d-pad movement (ie. perform Goku's kamehameha by pressing Punch, Punch, Punch, Punch, Energy). I like the idea of only being able to perform special attacks after punch-kick combos, but it makes the game seem a little amature-ish; like they want to make everything a lot easier to do. That, or they just wanted to find an alternative to the standard "half-circle motion, and punch" method. My major gripe with gameplay is that there's no jump-button. I'm impressed with Story mode. It's like watching an abridged version of DBZ. Radditz appears, kidnaps Gohan, and banters with Goku & Piccolo all within five minutes (something that took one or two episodes originally). I liked the search for the dragon balls the first couple of times, but it gets to be really tiring by the third time. I hate going in and out of Popo's shop over and over for hours and hours until a random dragonball appears for sale. They could've found a more interesting way to search for the dragon balls, so I don't have to constantly weave in and out of a shop for hours on-end just to wish for one character's Breakthrough. So, has anyone else played this game? What do you think of it?

Yeah, tuesday's was new. What pretty much happened was the return of Faith, the first fight against The First Evil (sorta), and the usual random humor you have to watch to understand. On to this week's Angel! I've got to hand it to Fred, she is very quick. She figured everything out; how to snap everyone out of it, and the exact time and place to do it. Everyone's back together... except for Connor, but what else is new? I understand what Jasmine needs the people for, but what's with making everybody feel the love? Is she otherwise powerless to attack people (ie. Dracula had to put Buffy under his "thrall" instead of just attacking her)? Interesting how Cordy's blood didn't fix Connor. I assume it's because he's Jasmine's father. He might even be acting under his own will.

Well, it's about time The First did something. I was getting a little tired of it standing there like "Look at me! I'm very very evil and I can't touch anything, but I'll annoy the hell out of you by taking on the forms of every dead person you know." Is it me, or am I more in love with Faith than I was when she was on Angel a few weeks ago? Andrew is such a hilarious nitwit. It was funny when he told the story of how Faith fought a Vulcan. I was like "When the hell did this happen?! Is that Spock?!" And don't get me started on Xander's fantasy at the beginning of the episode :D

Anime How do you feel about the Mainstreaming of Anime...
Manic Webb replied to a topic in Otaku Central
Originally posted by gokents This is sad. You all sound like elitist... You bash on the dbz/yu gi oh fools, but then you dont want anime to grow... resulting in a greater likelyhood that the only anime these people see, will be shows like dbz and yu gi oh. Its like the people I got sick of with the "phish scene." They were all hippie punks that loved the music, but loved knowing they were into something that wasnt mainstream even more... They all hated the music that is popular on a large scale and loved phish, but they all hated the kids who listened to popular music... So instead of taking the best way to eliminate the problem of crappy music filling the heads of our generation, they all just tried to keep phish in their own selective club. Never letting anyone hear phish and not letting it become popular only contributed to the outside world listening to "bad" music. Same goes with this... You are all trying to say you love anime, and hate dbz fools. Yet you dont want to let anime grow allowing your "inferior dbz fools" to see the anime that makes you feel superior. You laugh at them, instead, you should extend your hand and your anime knowledge as well as your anime collection. With you all hording the good stuff and only allowing the mass appeal stuff to be seen, the only result will be more yu gi oh's and pokemons... Note: there was a time when not every little kid knew dbz and there was a time when it was only in japan. During that time, many anime fans considered it a good show, but now it is popular, and hence, it is not cool any more... Just plain sad.
I completely agree with you (except for the part about using "hippie" as an insult, but let's not go there). Most people against mainstreaming are nothing but a bunch of arrogant jerks who sit on their high chairs saying "I'm better than you." If you were REAL anime fans, you'd correct those who have the wrong idea about anime, rather than sit back and say "Well, I'm the only one who should be watching anime, anyway." How can you be a true anime fan if you don't want more people to enjoy what you enjoy? So next time you see a kid on the street talking about how big of an anime fan they are for watching DBZ and Yugi-Oh, don't B***h off and walk away, instead tell them that there are a bunch of other anime out there in video stores that are a whole lot better than Yugi-Oh, and that DBZ has a lot more action when you watch it in the Japanese version, and that Pokemon's got nothing on Slayers in terms of comedy. You might make a better anime fan out of them. -
The Shawshank Redemption (no spoilers! ^_^ )
Manic Webb replied to Dragonballzman's topic in Noosphere
I love this movie. It's interesting to watch the main character's personality throughout the movie. I especially like the ending. *coughsurprisetwistendingcough* -
Maybe I chose the wrong word when I called him a "moron." Blinded by vengeance, that's what he is.
-
When Bibidi created Majin Buu, he created the ultimate killing machine. It couldn't be destroyed, it killed without second thought, and it was stronger than the Kaioshin. Bibidi was a very clever wizard. Babidi, on the other hand, is a moron. Why in the name of Kami-sama did Babidi decide to awaken Buu? When Babidi's father, Bibidi, sealed Buu in his shell, he must have had a very good reason for it. "Gee, why ever would my father lock up his unstoppable, sociopathic killing machine after it was doing so well in destroying the Kaioshin? Oh well, I'll just wake it up and hope that whatever reason my father had for sealing it up won't happen to me." Yeah, so let's talk about some of the stupid things Babidi has done.

Anime How did Fat Buu get the healing power?
Manic Webb replied to SS5 Gogeta's topic in Otaku Central
I think Buu's power to heal goes beyond plain ol' "ki" and into the realm of "magic." Remember, Buu was made by a very powerful sorcerer. Giving a blind boy sight, making Uub and Goku draw balls to put them in a match at the tournament, and turning people into candy... that sounds more like magic than a manipulation of ki. The real question is whether Buu always had magical powers, or if he got them from absorbing the Kaioshin. -
I seriously doubt the CG could be anywhere near as bad as Blade 2. I thought there was something fishy and just plain weird about that rumor.

That part about the girl yelling at the bus driver happened all the time on my bus when I was in high school. What's worse is that two people would be yelling "change it!" and "keep it!" at the bus driver at the same time. It was kinda funny when the driver ignored them and just turned the radio down. But I digress. I was raised on rap music. I was born in the mid-80's with an older brother and a mother who listened to rap all the time. I loved rap all through the 80s (what I can remember, anyway), but I got really tired of it in the 90s. In fact, I'm still a little tired of mainstream rap. I'm not enough of a fan to go out of my way for underground rap, either. I see a lot of new mainstream rappers coming out of goodness-knows-where, presenting nothing but a bunch of crap. But I'm not going to let my friends' and family's fandom of hip-hop shape my view of it. If I hear something I like, I'll listen to it. But other than that, I'm not having it. I think this is how some parents fall out of the loop. My father, for instance, is a blues musician who won't listen to any music made after 1989 because "none of these new singers can sing." I don't listen to rap anymore because none of these new rappers have anything to talk about besides themselves and the money they don't have. (watch the MTV special on rappers' incomes. They make minimum wage by the end of the year). In terms of rock, that's a genre I fall in and out of constantly. Unlike rap, my mom doesn't listen to rock, so I don't have to listen to it everyday. So, I'll hear one group I like one day, lose touch with the mainstream rock scene, and there's a whole new genre of rock by the time I come back into it. Ten years ago, I'd never heard of "punk" rock, but apparently Nirvana was punk back when I used to watch them on MTV as a kid. Add on the fact that I'm not sure wich bands are which type of rock, I just can't become a fan of rock music. I just don't get it. Pop music has always been just "Popular" music. It's just that nobody made a big deal out of how crappy it is/isn't until Britney Spears (who can't sing) and Backstreet Boys (who's songs were very redundant) made it big. At one time, you could call any genre of music "pop." Nowadays, you'll be tar'ed, feathered, hanged, and burned at the stake in the middle of Town Square if you dare to call a certain rock band or rapper "pop." Now we have to use the word "mainstream." You know, I'm not sure where I'm going with this, either. Sometimes people listen to a certain type of music because of the image it gives. That's not exactly a good thing. As someone who tunes his radio into a hip-hop/R&B station, I'm expected to hate boybands with a passion. Well damnit, Justin Timberlake's album was good. One shouldn't let their own image or the image of the band affect what to think of their music. How someone can listen to an African-American hip-hop/R&B boyband named 112, but turn around and say they hate Nsync's "Girlfriend" remix (a song that dripped with so much R&B, they played it on BET's countdown) before even hearing it, is beyond me. The music you listen to should be based on your taste in music, not the culture of the person performing it. Now, if you'll excuse me, a Snoop Dogg song is about to end and I'm going to put on my Michelle Branch CD.

I thought it was stupid back when it first came on TV, but I recently started liking it ever since the reruns started coming on 3 channels where I live. It's a very funny show and Roseanne is hilarious.

I heard a rumor somewhere that the next two movies are costing so much, Keanu Reeves sacrificed some of his own salary so the directors could keep filming. It's just a rumor, though. I don't know if it's true.

Anime How do you feel about the Mainstreaming of Anime...
Manic Webb replied to a topic in Otaku Central
I'm all for mainstreaming anime. The more popular anime gets, the easier it becomes to find certain series. There was a time when I would have a hard time finding a Ranma 1/2 episode, but now there are Ranma DVDs in stores across the North American continent. I think it's rather arrogant/ignorant to say that one doesn't like mainstreaming of anime in America because it gets to be too commercial. If you don't like Pokemon and all of its products, too bad! I dare you to go to Japan and not find twice as many. The average anti-mainstreamer is basically asking that anime not become popular in America because then America would have almost as much crappy Pokemon merchandise as Japan does. It's all about feeling better than someone else. If you're against mainstreaming anime, then what you're really afraid of is that people will think you're trendy. Do you only like anime because it's "underground" where you live? It shouldn't even be about the "mainstream." It should be about whether you like the anime you're watching or not. Not all anime is about goofy little kids with monsters and playing cards, but it's not all bounty hunters and demon killers either. If anime gets to be very very popular, it'll be up to the new fans to tell the difference. -

Sounds creepy, to me. I rejected the idea of having corrective lazer eye surgery, so nothing in this world short of a death-punishable law would get me to get implants where an image is beamed directly into my retina. My squeemishness aside, that idea doesn't sound too bad for the bold and daring.
