1. The timeline is up to you. :D So yes, there can be a lapse of a few hours. However, it is important here to realise that a person MUST be able to read Sara's Round 1 winning submission, and then the second Round submission WITHOUT feeling lost or that he/she has missed something. In a sense this STORY has to follow directly from the previous one. But HOW that is done, how things work is up to you, what timeline to set up, etc. :)
2. Err...I'm not sure we're on the same wave length dude. :D By 'the jealousy bit' I meant the following line 'Jealousy is given backstage jobs to do'. I liked the metaphor, that's all. And you can contradict me any time. If you did not know already, unlike mods or admins on the Internet, my ability to receive criticism is as great as my capacity to give them. Perhaps even more so. :D
3.
Originally posted by Sara ::quietly declines:: I've thought about this, and I really can't bring myself to say I'm obsessed about anything. Even in jest.
Really? What about that navel of yours? The way you've been picking at it one would have thought there was an endless supply of lint.... ;)
4. Very nice. :) The sentiment shows a surprising level of maturity. It is fine as it is but you're only really half way there if you want it to be great (or as great as is commonly possible anyway). And I have this sneaky suspicion that you do. ;) There's a glaring spelling mistake you need to eradicate pretty quickly. Spell checkers are fine, but easily fooled. I'll leave you to find the error. :) There is a couple of over-used cliches, some repetition, and some structures that simply do not seem to work. For example, The last phrase of the first paragraph is confused and confusing. I really liked the jealousy bit. Shows imagination. :D The ideas are exceptional, especially for one so young, but the execution does not quite match. This could be an A+, as it is I'd say a B. :D
5. Actually, its not bad. Decent characters and design. Plot is pretty thin tho. And if you have a problem with teenage nudity, you'd better skip it. Otherwise its worth the price of admission. A little short however. :D
6. Round 1 Comments 1. I must say I'm pretty disappointed with the turnout for this Round. It is the first round and I had expected better participation. I know I'm harping on this subject and I'm not sure if that's altogether a good thing. I don't want those who enjoyed the experience to be disheartened, and I certainly don't want those who, for legitimate reasons could not make a submission for this round, to forsake this game entirely. And yet, I do want to emphasise to you that this is quite a unique game. If done well, it can be immensely enjoyable, satisfying and fruitful. This is not a 'play-and-forget' RPG, this is no insubstantial candy floss. You are all collaborating in the writing of a story. Make it something you can all be proud of. This game needs to be in your first or second tier of priorities, not your last. Put some effort in. Bond with some of your fellow writers. Read their work and make useful comments. Help each other. Help yourself. This game is for you. Really. For illustration purposes only, you'll find a sample of the voting cast for Round 1 during the 2001 game on the Settings page of the RPW Website. Or for the lazy, just click here. You don't have to do anything near as extravagant, and you certainly won't be getting any XPs for it, but something would be nice. :D 2. Promote the game. The more people interested in reading the stories, the more you are likely to be motivated to write them, and the more life with be breathed onto this enterprise. Similarly, early submissions give people time to read your work before the poll for the Popularity category closes. 3. Congratulations Sara for winning the Round and CWB for taking away the Popularity vote! :) The RPW Website has been updated with your scores. Sara has moved to Scribe level on 12 XPs and will now have 2 votes. Please check the Players page to make sure everything is in order. 4. I believe some of you will be getting back to school or completing finals. Good luck! 5. Round 2 Objectives have been released. Have fun! :) This closes Round 1. A copy of this message will also be emailed to you for convenience. Your further comments and suggestions are welcome on this thread.
7. STOP! Please read the following before you do ANYTHING in this thread!! The plot thickens... There are just a few very simple rules to ensure everything runs smoothly. Please abide by them. Good luck everyone! :) For non-players: 1. If you are not one of the registered players, DO NOT post here. Period. If you wish to make a comment, laud praise or offer some criticism, please do so at the RPW General Thread. 2. In an ideal world, I would ask that you read each story by each player BEFORE voting in the poll. But I understand this is not an ideal world so I would strongly you read at least a few stories before making you decision and to NEVER vote for someone before you have read their story! Please extend the players, who have spent time and effort in crafting their submissions, this small courtesy. ;) 3. Vote for the person whose story you like the most. You have until midnight, Friday, 7th Feb, AEST time, ie GMT +10:00 hrs. Thanks for dropping by. Everyone at RPW appreciates your support. :D For the players: Round 2 is now open for submissions. The deadline is midnight, Friday, 7th Feb, AEST time, ie GMT +10:00 hrs. This will be STRICTLY enforced. The Objectives for Round 2, if you did not check the RPW website and know already, is here. Read it carefully. If you have questions or queries, post them in the RPW General Thread. It may be other players are also unsure. If you're a little shy, or if its personal, email or PM me. I have taken the time to write up some tips for playing RPW. Read the FAQ. Please, PLEASE, ask questions. Even if its just to confirm some things. Don't write 3000 words of brilliant prose only to have it scraped cos it didn't fit with the Objectives or were outside the rules. I really hate having to send submission back to have players edit them. Chances are players will often be too disappointed to make the necessary changes or do not have enough time. In any case, that just robs us of a submission and we need every single one.
8. Well the 'poll' was for non-player OB members ONLY. It decides the Popularity category. I guess you've got some hassles at the moment on your end dude so I'll forgive you for not paying attention. :) The player votes are just normal posts and I tally them up as I will do now. Thanks for submitting and voting everyone! :D Results are as follows: Sara - 3 votes, Lady Asphyxia (I think I'll just call you LA now for short if you don't mind ;)), Juuthena and Shyguy CWB: - 2 votes, CWB and Harlequin. Congratulations go to Sara, Winner of Round 1! :) Also it seems CWB has many fans, he far exceeds anyone else by popular votes! :) Great job. So here are the updates for Round 1: Lady Asphyxia: 2 XP (1 for prompt submission, 1 for satisfying objectives) Sara: 12 XP (10 for winning, 2 for same as above) CWB: 7 XP (5 for Popularity, 2 for same as above) Red XIII: Although technically your submission was too late for it to be 'prompt' according to the rules, and although you didn't actually satisfy the objectives of the Round (you did not interact with all the player characters), I'm inclined to award you the 2 XPs anyway. :) I'm doing so because you've honestly given it a shot and it is the first round and all, and I'm very appreciative. :D (if anyone doesn't think this to be fair or appropriate, please let me know) Everyone else XP levels remain the same. Round 2 objectives will be up in a couple of hours.
9. Dying for the one you love is a cliche, and not altogether a difficult thing to do when you think about it. A harder question is, would you live for the one you love? Now that's something to think about... ;)
10. Bah! You guys are nuts. Apocolapse was awesome! Powerful, intelligent, pompous, arrogant and insane, what more can you ask? :) I really liked how he was done in the early X-Men TV series (IMHO the new Evolution one is a poor imitation. Wayyy too kiddie). The dubbing was excellent! :D
11.
Originally posted by The Harlequin I'd go for CWBs as well. But anyway, what I really want to know is...what the hell is that poll up the top doing with one for me in there? I didn't even write anything for Christ's sake...
Yes, well maybe some people don't read instructions and maybe they are so impressed by you they don't even to read your work. Your reputation precedes you ... ;)
12. Has anyone ever told you that you guys are just wayyyy too serious.... ;) Anyways... Nicest person of the year: MistressRoxie (being 'nice' is always good in my books) Nastiest person of the year: Crazy White Boy (skinheads come in all shapes and colors, the least dangerous being the ones you can see) Biggest poser of the year: Harlequin Teenie-Bopper of the Year: Juuthena Poster most likely to go 'postal' this year: Matt Most petulant poster of the year: James Most 'perfect' poster of the year: Sara Most informed poster of the year: Mnemolth (what? you were expecting someone else? :p) Most misinformed poster of the year: GoKents Most intellectual poster of the year: Heaven's Cloud Most under-rated poster of the year: Genkai Most annoying poster of the year: Mnemolth :D Quickest Wit of the West: Sara Slowest Slug of the South: Mystic Knight hmm....I guess I should defer to the real show... :p Overall Member of the Year: MistressRoxie Yep. That's it. :) But I would like to thank all those who actually mentioned me. I'm honored. :D Erm, Mnemolth...did you even read the initial post in the thread? Considering that you've mostly voted for "unofficial" categories, you must bear in mind that your votes will most likely not be counted. That is, only votes in accepted categories will be counted. - James [EDIT]Yes I did read the initial post. And yes I know most of my 'votes' will not be counted (save the last one). I was just having a little fun. Its ok, no animals were hurt in the production of the said fun. :D
13. Yes this is the right place to vote. :D And no, there has been no PM on votes, so again I have to say I'm somewhat disheartened by the lack of votes being cast by the players. On a brighter side, I see several people have voted in the 'poll' at the beginning of the thread. That is for OB members who are NOT players. So you guys shouldn't be casting your votes there. Sorry if there has been any confusion. In any case, its past the deadline for voting, but since I've only got 2 posts, I'm going to extend it for a bit. How long? Just long enough until the rest of the votes come in. But this is already disrupting the timeflow, so PLEASE get your vote in ASAP. Thanks. I guess you can probably guess my patience is wearing somewhat thin about now .... Sara: Am I reading this correctly? You vote for Lady A as the best submission? (you CAN vote for yourself if you think yours is best) Lady A: You vote for yourself or Sara for submission? Its a little unclear in your post. And to both of you, I assume neither of you made any votes for any of the 3 special categories (just making sure, it is quite normal for no votes in those categories as they are exceptional ones).
14. Thanks to all those who have made a submission. For the others, I guess I'll see your talents next round, eh? ;) Round 1 Submissions are now closed. This also means Round 1 Voting commences and runs from now until midnight, Mon 20 Jan, AEST time or GMT +10 hrs. 1. A reminder that all players are entitled to vote, even if you did not make a submission. To vote, simply just make a post, along with any accompanying comments/suggestions. 2. Players are NOT to participate in the thread poll, that is exclusively for NON-PLAYER OB members. 3. Comments on submissions are welcome and recommended, though not mandatory. Please be constructive and if you have nothing to say, or can't think of anything at the moment, just post your vote anyway. You can always edit it latter on. Otherwise you might not make it within the deadline. 4. You have 4 options: 1 general vote for best submission and 1 for each of the 3 special categories (this is only for exceptional work so you need not vote if you feel it is not warranted). The 'general' vote is ESSENTIAL, the others are just optional. 5. Finally, non-players CANNOT vote, though you can participate in poll on this thread. Also you are always welcome to make comments/suggestions on the General Thread. :D Go luck all! :)
15. Warning! Warning! Approaching Dawson's Creek zone...please raise pseudo-psych bable shield, and power to maximum. :D Heheheheh. Couldn't resist. Apologies to those who may have been offended. Just kidding around, as I often do. ;) I'm not really surprised at the frankness of some of the responses, though one cannot but help feel moved by them. They are all amazing. In particular, I'm especially impressed with Harlequin's post. Now if only Sara can follow suit.... ;) What?? *ducks Daria rage* Hey! :p Hmm....huh? What was that? You want me to stay on topic and answer the three questions? Heheheheh.... nah. That'd be too easy. If you really wanna know me, read my posts. And not just the serious debating ones, but the cryptic one liners, and the mischievous ones and the foolish ones. And if you haven't got the time...well...what can I say? I'm afraid I can't quite reduce myself to a 30 second sound bite just yet... but I am trying... ;) Must...delete...post...err...:p-Mitch
16. Its okies Harlequin, that's understandable. :D Hopefully, you'll be back to your menacing best in Round 2. :) But I am rather disappointed that there has only been 3 submissions so far... that's less than half the number of players... :bawl: If the participaion level is this low, I'm concerned about the viability of this entire enterprise. It looks like a lot of work, it IS a lot of work, but give it a shot people. You never know, you might find it a lot of fun! ;)
17. Its grand CWB. :D Now if only some of the others will be as kind as to put in their submissions... time is getting scarce.... :bawl:
18. Great work James. :D However, I was wondering, if it wouldn't be too much trouble for you to keep the bright colored v6 skin as an option for those of us who may be overwhelmed by the dark color scheme and the animated buttons. At the moment, we've only got Industrial and this dark default skin avaliable.
19. Juu: The deadline is midnight, Fri 17 Jan, hmm....in roughly about 2 days time. :) So yeah.... its kinda close. I'd really like to see what you can do. It would be great to have everyone submitting for the first round, so good luck! :) And I was confused too about why Sara keep calling you Reelee...but then I read your bio and had a Homer Simpson moment. :D
20. CWB, thanks for submitting so early. Its great but there is one major problem with it. Please check your PMs. (anyone wishing to query or comment please do it in the RPW General Thread)
21. Here's some food for thought... ;) This is the actual radio conversation of a US naval ship with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October 1995. Radio conversation released by the chief of naval operations, 10-10-95. CANADIANS: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the south to avoid a collision. AMERICANS: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the north to avoid a collision. CANADIANS: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the south to avoid a collision. AMERICANS: This is the captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course. CANADIANS: No, I say again, you divert YOUR course. AMERICANS: This is the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. LINCOLN, the second largest ship in the United States Atlantic Fleet. We are accompanied with three Destroyers, three Cruisers and numerous support vessels. I DEMAND that you change your course 15 degrees north. I say again, that's one-five degrees north, or counter-measures will be undertaken to ensure the safety of this ship. CANADIANS: This is a lighthouse. Your call. Come on now, even Gokents should be able to have a cackle at this one. Thought I'd throw this into the debate. Amusing, insightful, and true, regardless of the veracity of the communique. :)
22.
Originally posted by Lyka pern? or anime?
Well neither actually. :D Mnementh would be the dragon from McCaffrey's world. As for anime, my name is not from there as far as I know, though of course, I haven't seen a fraction of all the anime out there so...you never know...;) The closest would be Mnemoth from HellBlazer, as Semjaza said somewhere, but no, that's not quite it either. I do remember telling someone from OB the origins of my name here, but I forgot who, and they shouldn't be saying either, it'd spoil the fun. :p In any case, I doubt anyone would be able to guess where my name comes from, because its from a very old and obscure book. How old and obscure you say? Enough to not come up on any Google searches on the web, and that's saying something! ;)
23. Great work Lady Asphyxia, the first to put a submission in! Much appreciated. :D Now who will be next to step up to the plate? ;)
24. Hmm....been meaning to say something about the site for ages, but I figured you guys would just write me off as being negative, and where's the fun in that? ;) ...anyways... Good content. Layout needs a little. Specifically 'home' links, both the tab and the text one, link back to the same 'anime series/movie' homepage, which means visitor may have trouble getting to the theotaku.com's actual index page. Before the tabs were redone, one of them read 'More Anime' or something like that which led you back to the index page. It was problematic because there was, if I remember correctly, also a 'home' tab that did exactly what the one now is doing. In any case I was confused, so maybe that's something to work on. Cheerio. :D
