And even if that isn't a real name, Storey isn't smart enough to think up a moniker. I am however somewhat convinced that you are an Australian though Mnemolth.
What makes you think I'm an Australian? Just because I think Brizzie is a country town pretending to be a city?? That's not enough proof! ;) Oh I know! Maybe I'm cloricus in disguise...*bursts into hysterical laughter*
2. JC: I don't think you've met me dude. Nor has anyone else from this Board. Primarily because I don't exist. ;) I am a figment of your collective imaginations! :D
3. I can't stand straight people! I mean...they are so....gay! :D
4. CWB, perhaps you would like to post your vote then? :) Same goes for you Alex. :)
5. Well, the simple answer to this is that it is the fantasy of every red-blooded man to sleep with two women at the same time. Its one of those Immutable Laws of Maleness. Like... No man shall comment on another about their attractiveness, No man shall cry (unless it gets you a lay), No man shall glance sideways at a urinal, etc. ;)
6.
Originally posted by Heaven's Cloud I just arrived in Ohio today, and, truth be told, I am very nervous and slightly afraid. I moved away from my home of twelve years, accepting a job in a small city in eastern Ohio, expecting a sense of pride and prestige or at least a twinge of unbridled excitement. Instead, my stomach is churning out gallons of acidic nerve juice and even my tasty, alcoholic Sam Adams is not stifling the tremor in my hand. I am not nervous about starting my new job, I know I am more then capable for the task. I am not homesick for my family, house, and dog; I have lived away from them before, and I managed to bumble my way through life's routine. I am not uncomfortable temporarily living with an uncle that I scarcely know, and bunking with cousins who couldn't be more opposite in demeanor then yours truly. I am not even daunted by the fact that I know no one in Ohio save my uncle and his kids. So why do I feel so empty inside? During the drive to Ohio I came to a realization. I have entered the business world. I am not working at a job that I think I'll love (although it could be enjoyable), nor am I entering a field that could be the launching pad for my dreams. Instead I took a job that will make me money fairly quickly, and in moderate sums; I took the job that offered to pay me the most. And the instant I realized that, I also realized that I sold out my dreams. Did I play my own Judas? Even though this job could potentially provide me with enough money to live comfortably all of my life, did I make the right decision? Did I just put my dreams on hold, or did I make my thirty pieces of silver?
Bah, you're just getting old. ;) It'll pass, you'll die, and worms will feed on your rotting corpse. No big deal. :D
7. Guys can't be friends with girls. The sex always gets in the way. Hmm...I thought we'd covered this topic before. Gee... I guess I'm beginning to age on this Board. Now that is scary... :D
8.
Originally posted by Rain Well, because I have half your soul, of course ^_^ Anyway.. *adds Jack, JC Baggee and Solo to her list*
And I'm still not on your list... :bawl: :bawl: :bawl:
9. Stumbling upon this Board could be discounted as careless. Posting on this Board may be dismissed as a flight of fancy. But staying on this Board?? Now that's just plain stupid! :D :D :D
10.
Originally posted by The Harlequin Mnemolth: I wrote that way intentionally. I'm developing Lacroix. He's not meant to know, thus interact, with people yet, because he's yet to go through a few revelations I'm planning. You know, average stuff about him not being as much as a bastard as he sets himself up as. And the "jargon" as you put it is just the way I write. Hell, it's the way I speak. Anyway, I will get involved with the other characters, but only in the uncertain, disjointed way that suits Lacroix. Besides, I'm acting under the impression this is a long term thing, so I'll have lots of time.
Well you didn't need your character to 'interact' with the other player characters to write about the rest of the group? :) In any case, I don't think your submission was as bad as you may think. Heheh. Actually I do believe your work was one of the more involved pieces, which was a good counter to the shorter ones. On to another matter entirely, I noticed you people don't have many popular votes. I think getting other folk to the read the Rounds and vote in the poll would be helpful. As long as people actually read the stories before they vote - last Round there was a vote for Harlequin who had made no submission, and this Round there are 2 votes for CWB??!! Its getting annoying, especially since other players have made the effort to submit and have received no votes. Well I think the Popularity poll is still open for a day or two, so hopefully something will change there. :D
11. Thanks everyone for submitting! :D This has been a good Round. Submissions for Round 2 are now closed. At last, we get to the fun part. ;) Voting for Round 2 will now commence and will be closed on Fri, 14th of Feb midnight AEST time, or GMT + 10 hrs. A reminder that Sara has 2 votes. :D
12.
Originally posted by Lady Macaiodh there are too many things to name. recently though, the hardest thing has been dealing w/ my marriage breaking up. this is a really rough divorce, & it's still not over. i have to testify against him & he's probably going to jail. my family is pressing charges against him, too, for related stuff. even though he deserves it, i still feel guilty. every time i think about him, it's like a knife in my heart, only it doesn't ever heal or kill me...
Well, it has been said that that which does not kill us makes us stronger. Though I've actually never tested that theory myself...;) I don't want to sound insensitive and make light of your situation but, hey, sometimes you've just gotta laugh. :D
13. This Round has been extended a few days due to the lack of submissions. :( If you are working on your submission and will post please PM me to let me know, and post ASAP! The Popularity voting poll for this thread will remain unchanged and will close around Monday or Tuesday.
14. Thanks Sara. Its nice to know you are willing to do something, even if a little pressed for time. :) A note of caution though for you, and everyone else. :) What you did by switching to Reelee's pespective is allowed, but only just. :D Remember that one must always write with your own character featuring prominently. In your case, Xii was mentioned in a some detail, so it passes. But this is basically the limit. I try not to restrict anyone's creativity, so I am lenient in regard to these matters, but I'm just giving a word of caution so that people don't then start focussing on everyone else's character and neglect their own. This remains an RPG, not simply a writing exercise. ;)
15. Since no one has really made much of a comment on submissions last Round, I'd thought I'd get the ball rolling this Round by posting some very brief opinions. My comments are just my personal opinions, so please don't take it personally or get discouraged or anything. I don't have enough submissions as it is. :) Harlequin: Good to hear from you! :) Coming in at 1600 words, I think your piece shows your style quite well. You demonstrate a good grasp of the genre and an intimate knowledge of it. You have also given your character sinew on the bones of your profile. There are some spelling and grammatical errors, but really nothing to quibble about unless you're anal about those things. However, more troubling is the lack of interaction with other characters in the story. I know this is new to you, but unlike the other RPGs you have been involved in, this one requires you to write about other characters as well. In fact, you should cover all seven, some a little more than others, who and what the degree of difference is up to you. You have to branch out. You may find it something hard to do, or you might not like it, but that is part of the challenge of this game. :) And also a source of a lot of the fun. The ability to write about other characters than your own. Of course, within these confines there will be differences. Some players will concentrate almost exclusively on their characters, using the other player characters only to further the the development of their own characters. Others will do the opposite, and are likely to treat the whole party as an ensemble cast, giving each significant 'air time'. How you interact with the other player characters and how you write about them is up to you, but you must all include them in some way in all your submissions, even if its just a very quick mention of a few names in one line. Also of note Harlequin, is that your submission is a little hard to get into. A lot of jargon and difficult words that may not serve so way in the places in which they were used. Sometimes simple is best. But hey, what would I know? :D In any case, if you've inclination, I suggest maybe you take a look at some of the things I said in the FAQ. Its on the RPW webiste. Always remember, the writer is trying to tell a story. He is not a chronicler of events. Plot and characterisations are important, but storytelling is paramount. :) Its a good try Harlequin. The story has a hard edge that not many of the other submission would carry, and diversity is always welcomed. So thank you for submitting. Muchly appreciated. ;) Sara: Thank you for making a submission! I was worried you might not be able to make it. As always Sara, you don't disappoint. Your writing is crisp, clear, and easy to read. Your narrative is strong, and I'm also pleasantly pleased by the switch to Reelee's perspective. :) Improvements? Yeah. There are several I can think of, but then I'd be nit-picking. Basically it has to do with plot. Your work may be better with more creative use of plot. The staging was a little rushed. I guess you were pressed for time. :D Again, thanks for submitting. That's all for now folks. ;)
16. Seems to me that many maths teachers are nerds, and nerds have this annoying habit of trying to be funny, and failing miserably... hey!...why is everyone looking at me?? :D But seriously nerds try too hard. Regrettable. Understandable but regrettable.
17. Wow!! That's a big *** bmp file you got there dude. :D 255k?? Heheh. Anyways, I've converted and cut the pic and uploaded it. Cheers. :)
18. *rises up and walks up to the podium* I would like to thank everyone for their votes. I'm so surprised to have won. *proceeds to take a prepared note from his pocket and reads it*... I am truly humble by ...*ShyGuy interrupts and whispers into his ear*... What??? I didn't win??? ANYTHING??? Not even second??? This is outrageous! I demand a recount!! *turns his furious gaze upon the gathered OB crowd* You ungrateful philistines! You wouldn't know greatness if it came up and clobbered you on the head!!! *is beginning to froth at the mouth* Why I outta...*James and ShyGuy walks up besides him and grabs his arms, all the while smiling as if everything is normal* Hey!! Wait!! What are you doing??...*he is being hauled off stage, his feet dragging along the ground* I'm not finished!! This thing is rigged!! I've been cheated of my just rewards!! Let go of me you fools!!! .....
19. My first job was as a high school maths tutor. It was fun! :) You have to be patient, have good communication skills, and it helps if you're not a total nerd. ;) You gotta know your stuff of course, but I found that kids were more open to me when I related to them. :D Parents are a little hard to deal with sometimes. Some are so clueless about their kids its not even funny. And some are so stingy they expect you to turn their kids into maths wizzes in a couple of months!! The funny thing is it is usually the parents of kids who are really struggling! Sheesh...I may be good but I'm not a miracle worker!! But the students are usually fun to deal with. :) And its nice to be paid to help someone out. And there is satisfaction in taking a marginal pass kid to around 70 or 80, so that at least they can go to university and get a degree.

The movie is worth watching but seriously flawed. Still the ideas behind it are relevant and deeply disturbing. It does make for interesting conversations.... :) Though I was a little annoyed there were so many 'beautiful people' in it....but perhaps that's the point? Oh and btw, there is no 'i' in the DNA sequence...;)
21. I sent my comments on an attached Word doc file to your cynic email address..:)
22. Well, at the moment there are seven active players, so its kinda full. But many had not made a submission for Round 1, and if they still do not make a submission for Round 2, I'll have the unpleasant task of asking them to retire their characters, or at least give me a good reason as to why they should stay. We'll see what happens on the 7th when the Round 2 deadline is due. Okay? :)
23. Mine's in my sig too. :) I have others, too many to put up (alright I'm just lazy! :p). And I've modified a few as well...;)
24. Opinions are a dime a dozen. Hence the proliferation of message boards on the Internet. We have so many means of communication and yet so very few relevant things to say to one another. Its a source of great sadness for me. But I digress... :D I saw the documentary of which Liam speaks, though I can't testify to his state of mind when he saw it because I think there are several errors in his post. ;) First, let's just get one thing straight. No one ever accused any US soldiers of spraying the containers with bullets. Basically what happened was that originally the Taliban forces that surrendered General Dostum (one of the vicious warlords in Afghanistan, and a key ally of the US)) were taken to a prison by open lorries. But latter on, for whatever reason, the bulk of the thousands of prisoners were crammed into closed shipping containers. Some of them started complaining they couldn't breathe and were suffocating. So Dostum's men shot into the containers to make some holes. In the process they hit and killed some prisoners. The prison they were all going to was overcrowded and it has been said that prisoners, esp the sick and injured, were taken out to the desert and shot. There is a mass grave there. No body knows how many bodies are there but we're not talking about a handful here, we're talking about hundreds to thousands depending on who you ask. When the Pentagon was first asked about this incident, the response was that US forces were no where near the place. Its a different story now. What is being argued now is that they might have been in the area but did not know about the massacre at the time. And it was not the 'Marines' as such that were involved, it was the 'Special Forces'. I'm sure there is some kind of difference there, but it doesn't really matter, they are both US troops. The important question is not that US soldiers killed anyone, it is that they were in control, knew what was happening and did not do enough to stop it. There are a few things to consider here. One is whether they were there and knew what was happening. But that doesn't make it a war crime. What would indict the US in an international criminal court would be if it could be establish that they had control over the Northern Alliance forces, that is they had SOME kind of auhtority over them. They don't need to be in command, just in control of the situation. If that case can be made, then those troops can very well be guilty of War Crimes. Now you understand why the US was not so keen about the International Criminal Court. This story came out in dribs and drabs in 2002. The story became stronger at the end of 2002. There is no doubt that something terrible happened in the desert. There is no doubt that there is a mass grave there (you can spot it even by using satellite photos). The only question that remains are the number of the dead, how they died, and who is responsible. The US has been accused NOT because US soldiers shot the Taliban, NOR because US commanders ordered the Northern Alliance troops to shoot them, but because the US troops were there, they knew what was happening, they were in control, and they did nothing to stop it. This was a long and dangerous investigation. Some of the people interviewed, who said they would testify at any war crimes hearing have been murdered, and the researcher for the story was bashed within an inch of his life. There are plenty of places online you can look at for this story. One of them is here. http://www.guardian.co.uk/afghanistan/story/0,1284,791946,00.html I would go into the whole Iraq thing but frankly I'm quite sick of it at the moment. People don't really care, so what's the point? (in making a post that is) I made this post because things were getting out of hand. On both sides. Mindless American bashing I feel only undermines legitimate criticism. The messages of those who are passionately critical against US foreign policy, and in particular, the hawks of the Bush Administration, are lost in the subsequent fog of confusion. On the other hand, mindless patriotism blind us to our humanity. You can only change so much with guns. The hearts and minds of the world have to follow, or else the war is already lost. Compassion is not about being timid or weak or niave or romantic. It is essential to our survival. It is practical. No man is an island. And no nation, especially in this globalised age, can afford to ignore the rest of the world for too long. Not even the most powerful country on earth.
25. *glances at Liamc2's sig* Hmm... I didn't know that Evil Liam Incorporated has taken over the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Gah!! The barbarians are at the gates!! ;) ...er...back to topic. Ahhh...Catcher in the Rye...a classic. A must read for all alienated teenagers, and those who wish to know them. :D My advise would be for everyone to read the book. You never know, you might actually learn something. ;) If you're in the 13-14 range, its probably a bit over your head. You are likely to miss some nuances. Its a book best read at 17 or thereabouts. At an age when you think you might actually know something...
