I think it looks cool, though I can never ever recognise who these random anime characters that appear in the banners are. We need more video game orientated skins!!1zorzoth1. But the sweetest thing about this one in my opinion is the little box above the Jukebox. You know, the Welcome so-and-so, Private Messages Unread, Total, etc. Very cool.

Guys, v4 was black and white from what I remember. V3 was lavender-ish. I think for one of the themes after v4 (either v5 or 6) we used a theme that Syk3 made that had a lot of dark stuff in it.

Anyway, the banner suddenly being gray instead of blue makes me feel like there's too much gray on the page, and the blue menu sticks out a little too much because of it. I'm kind of with Tony, it being a new theme rather than replacing the old one would have been better.

But... OBE soon! Woooo!!!
Version 4 was blue/purple/gray and seemed, for some reason, to be one of the least popular skins we've had. (Super Mario Sunshine wasn't released till just before the switch to v5, by the way. I remember working on ShineGet.com while OB was down for a month between versions.) Personally, I liked it more than anything prior to v7.

Which version was this, then? V5?

The banner is likely to be changed at some point - the problem was that the old banner didn't really suit the other new graphics on the skin. So it needed to be changed. But you can expect it to be refined significantly.

The main reason I didn't make a third skin is because I didn't intend to. I wasn't going for a completely new colour scheme or anything - I was just updating our standard skin.

I have to get Desbreko to assist me with new skins because we need to point the styles to new folders on the server and that's one thing I'm unable to do in the backend (I literally don't have the first idea of where to look for that). Deb helped me with the link colours so that'll be his next task I think.

Once that is done you can definitely expect further skin development beyond the two we have now.

Thanks. The last banner wasn't really consistent and I agree that we needed colour on more than just the sidebar.

I figured it would be better to just showcase the pattern (which is probably interesting enough on its own without requiring additional imagery). This way we can also kinda emphasize the logo a bit more.

If I can sort out some of the backend stuff I will be able to work on an additional skin. I actually need to completely redesign the Geisha skin, too. But it can't be tackled with imagery alone, it really is going to need some HTML changes.

And the big "down for a month" thing happened just before v6, I thought.

Hm, the only colors I see on that page are black, white, grey, and yellow. The banner's not loading for me, though... so that may be what you're referring to.

And yeah, the new banner is much spiffier. I do miss having a person there, but I hated the monochrome.

That couldn't be v4 because I'm listed as a super moderator, which I didn't become until v5. That's v6 that you linked to, Nerdsy.

Okay, so here's how you can tell the versions apart, regardless of their skins.

Version 1: This was at theotaku.com/forums wasn't it? It didn't use the otakuboards.com URL from what I hear. I wasn't actually around back then and I haven't found an archived page of it.

Version 2: Ran on UBB instead of vB like subsequent versions.

Version 3: Ran on vB and super moderators aren't listed in the category headers.

Version 4: Super mods are listed in the category headers and kuja or no one is in charge of Series Otaku.

Version 5: Desbreko is a super moderator in charge of Series Otaku.

Version 6: Categories now have the word Otaku first. So, instead of, "Series Otaku," the category is known as, "Otaku Series." Also, category names are centered in the headings. Version 6 went through a few changes during its life, including skins and forum structure, but those two things remained the same.

Version 7: Has the layout we're all familiar with, with the left navigation column.

v6 also had that blue pic in the otakupedia thread. I remeber it from when i first joined, and I think there was another one as well. I wasn't around for yellow, though. Looks horrid...

Naw, it was at theotaku.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi. Here are a couple of the old layouts.

Horrid.

Not bad.

There's also the old Ultimage Gameboy forums, which had a horrid shade of brown.

There are two reasons for that, Felix. One is time (in that I don't have a great deal to invest on skins - I am spending a lot more time on development of the new site (and it will have multiple styles - far more than two! Haha)

The other is a coding-related issue. Each new skin needs to point to a different image folder. Of course, I can create the relevant folder on the server without issue. I just don't know how to point the new skin to that folder. So I'm getting Desbreko to look at that, as he's far more clever with the style templates and such.

Also the default skin regularly needs updating because it's the one most people see and use. Geisha is desperately in need of an update - but again, that's a timing issue really. But I'll do my best! :catgirl:

i figure this is as good a place as any to ask why all the blue or gray boxes have become xs with text next to them. I'm running IE if that has anything to do with it...

EDIT: I had no idea those folders told you how many posts you had in that thread. I'll be sure to try it once they come back lol

I've just made an announcement about this. It's a technical error that has to be fixed.

Desbreko was working on something and he was forced to stop halfway - he will be back to finish everything soon. Sorry about that!

Like, an Announcement announcement? Because it's not showing up for me; I still see Charles' last Otakupedia announcement.

same here. Also, at varying points the boards are loading slowly or simply not loading...

If announcements aren't loading try F5-ing your page and see if that comes through.

Other than that I don't know. Any problems we're having now seem to relate to this error but I don't know exactly what happened, so I'm waiting on Desbreko to complete what he was working on. Please be patient - if the site is too frustrating to use now, I'd urge you to try again later on. :catgirl:

Edit: There you go, looks like Desbreko has returned! :animesmil

Yeah, I tried that before I posted, it didn't work.

Also, the image problem didn't affect me, is it didn't seem to afflict the Geisha skin. So no worries there.

Sorry about that everyone. It was a stupid little mistake -- a typo in the statusicon image folder's name -- but I didn't have time to double check or revert anything before I had to leave. It's embarrassing that I even made the mistake in the first place. :animeblus

That wouldn't have had anything to do with slowdown on the site, though. If anything I'd think it would've made it faster because it wasn't loading as many images.

Also, Jeh is silly and posted the announcement for June 18 when, for most of the rest of the world, it was still June 17. So that's why it wasn't showing up. :p
