Adult-themed

If you haven't heard of this yet, here's an article on it.

Adult-themed ?Frosty? videos stir outrage

According to the article:
CBS promotions staff apparently thought that two mashups of the iconic cartoon character spliced to look as if he were uttering adult lines from "How I Met Your Mother" and "Two and a Half Men" were just harmless fun.
Until I ran into the outrage over it, I didn't even know they had done such a thing with the holiday classic. Since I haven't seen it I can't really say what I think of it, but at the moment I'm more inclined to just laugh and ignore it.

So what about you guys? Do you think it's offensive or funny? And do you think certain things should be left alone? Though considering the nature of the net, I don't see that one happening anytime soon.
Yes, the trailers are funny, in a 'South Park' this-feels-so-wrong way, but it's not going to be amusing when some fourth grader Googling 'Frosty" gets schooled on everything from porn to prostitutes.
So, no mention of the Gangsta Charlie Brown gag dubs that have been circulating Youtube for years? Or the "Classic cartoons censored" videos? Hell, Rule 34?

There's worse out there, news media. Better yet, there's worse that your children are far more likely to stumble upon. Try being consistent at the very least.

Just watched it.

Pretty damn tame for such an uproar, seriously. You can air the exact same dialogue on primetime national television. In fact, they do.

Bet it wouldn't be nearly this much of an uproar if they dubbed over something live-action. Just another reason people need to start realizing that animation and comics aren't just kids' fare. DC's Dr. Light has had rape as his main shtick for a number of years now, and no one's complained about the "ruin" of Superman and Batman.

And like I said, Rule 34. If you want to avoid permanent damage to your childhood, the internet is just not the place to go.

... I'm not gonna lie, when I saw the title of the thread, I was thinking something far more inappropriate and I was afraid to look.

But now that I read the article and stuff...uhh, so what? This is nothing new at all, just look at all the stuff Adult Swim airs that are essentially crude rehashes of old crappy cartoons. [Don't get me wrong, though. I friggin love Harvey Birdman, although that's far less crude than the other shows. But that's another story. >_>]

Oh, and refuting what someone complained about in the article: while this may be different on other search engines, googling "Frosty the Snowman" DOES bring up articles regarding to the controversy, but not the actual video itself. I doubt most little kids would even have the patience to go past page one, anyway.

i went and watched the videos.... man... the how i met your mother one was hilarious, and perfect dubbing.

i personally think they did nothing wrong, it is 100% parents responsibility to watch there kids. if that means selecting a few parental controls for there kids computer then they should do it and stop complaining.

I didn't know what to think at first because i can look at both sides of the story and see where they're going..But really..it shouldnt be that big of a deal. Just make sure your kid doesnt youtube Frosty the inappropriate snowman...I mean even seeing that title should steer them clear of it..

You know what's gonna make kids google it... People talking about it in the first place.

At this point I'm rather confused why something like this is considered so horrible. I mean really the idea isn't anything new, you can find stuff like this all over the web. Suppose the only reason it's so "horrible" to some is because it's Frosty. I'd hate to see the reaction complainers would give off if they ever looked at anything Christmas related on NewGrounds... xP Oh well.

And like I said, Rule 34. If you want to avoid permanent damage to your childhood, the internet is just not the place to go.
Which is why the uproar keeps making me laugh. If parents don't want their kids to see stuff, it's their job to monitor what they have access to. Not the other way around. Though now I probably ought to watch it, just to see what the fuss really is about. =P

ABC's editing down of A Charlie Brown Christmas to fit more advertisements (link) was way more offensive than this.

So, I mean, as far as Christmas Special outrage goes, this isn't even the worst thing this season.

I agree. I watched on Hulu, and it was edited down on their as well. I was wondering if, in my old age, I had a lapse of Alzheimer's and forgot that I just watched Schroeder play the Jingle Bell variations for Lucy. But nope, it was cut...even from the Hulu broadcast (which makes no sense considering they don't have the time constraint that network television has).

The wonderful aspect of the whole debacle is the irony of taking a Christmas special that preaches how commercialism has perverted Christmas and editing it to allow for more commercials.

As far as the risque Frosty video goes, it doesn't bother me at all. It isn't like it was broadcast on television or shown in elementary schools, it is on the internet. And, lets be honest, if that is the worst think your eight year old stumbles across on the net you are one lucky SOB.
