New DragonBall rumours.

So I'm guessing some of you have read the rumours today that Toriyama is restarting the DragonBall story. That's all the information there is at the moment, so who knows what the situation is? What are your thoughts on this? If Toriyama penned a new chapter to the DB saga, would you be excited? What angle might it take? Might it be more adventure oriented like the original DragonBall, or more fighting styled, like DBZ? Will it follow GT, or what? Will it focus on Goku, or maybe Goku's family? Or completely new characters? If he did write a new story, it would surely be picked up for an anime adaptation. Personally I (and perhaps a good deal of other fans) are only familiar with the anime, not the manga.

Anyway, I'm not sure how I feel about this news. I wasn't fond of anything that came after the end of the Cell saga. I found the whole thing stale and worn out. I disliked everything about Buu, SSJ3, Fusion, Goten and Trunks, Videl; everything. And GT was of course a farce. However, I know if this does come to pass, loyalty will have me tuning in. Probably out of some sort of morbid curiosity.

Thoughts and opinions?

Please no...

No offence to any avid DB fans but I think the entire thing went on too long. And trust me, I loved the series like a drug. Every day, every movie, every comic (and some in Japanese that I couldn't even read) but in all honesty the DB legend is long gone and dead.

I had a very soft spot for Kai and Kabito Kai. That's about it after the Cell Saga as well and I loathed GT. It was like a sad effort to bring back the original Dragonball with quirky theme music, a young Goku and a Bulma lookalike. Horrid.

If they did do it I'd like to see the kind of intensity around just up to the Cell Saga and I certainly don't want to see it end up like all the Fusion and Buu sagas. That's where it fell down completely in my opinion.

Like anything it has the potential to be good. However to compete with modern shounen mangas I think Toriyama would have to come up with some very fresh ideas for a new series, not just pulling another Super Saiyan level out of his rear-end and creating ever more powerful villains to fund the former. Personally I'd like to see a new series centred around one of either Goku/Vegeta's descendants quite a bit after the ending of GT (by which I mean after Goku Jr and Vegeta Jr) which would deal with the emergence of a hero in a similar manner to Dragonball, while combining the sci-fi element of Z's aliens without having every threat being the direct fault of the Saiyans.

That said DBZ holds a very special place in my heart as the first anime I genuinely got into, and seeing it commercialised with another series like DBGT and the haphazard writing there-in would be a huge disappointment.

sorry... but that would mean a character other than Goku would be the hero that saves the world... and we all know that Dragon ball always has a cast of characters that serve no purpose other than to cheer Goku on as he saves the world once again.

I agree with Vicky on this one. As much as I used to watch DBZ back then I can't stand to see it now. Half of it is due to obnoxious fans that think they know everything, or trying to BS some excuse to get you to understand something that you already understood... (At the same time, trying to make it sound so deep when DBZ's not a deep series to begin with) The other half is due to exposure to other series. Back then I was never into character development. I was only into action and that's where my fix with DBZ came in at. However, being exposed to Rurouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho, Cowboy Bebop, and Gungrave (and now One Piece, Bleach and Psyren for manga) set an entirely different standard for me for when it comes to my action. Each of those series gave me tons of characters to like, while Yu Yu Hakusho was the first series to actually get me to feel a connection (if you will) with characters. (I saw a lot of myself in Yusuke and Hiei) Not only did those series bring great characters but they brought nice fluidity in the action department, although it took a while for YYH to hit it's stride. When I go back to watch some of DBZ's fights I'm mostly bored of them because of how many times you see fighters doing the same motion over and over. (Naruto, when it get its act together excel in anime fighting though) And then I can't stand any of the characters now. I've always hated Krillin, and Goku's character is being done to death by other creators which made me hate him in return. And then there's the "rely on Goku" factor. (Naruto has headed down this same path) Man, I can't stand that crap.

And even then, do we really need more DBZ? DBZ was too long to begin with, and now we have DBZKai. And then Funimation keeps on milking these boxsets like there's no tomorrow. Without repeating itself I don't see what else can be done with the series. I seriously hope these rumors just stay rumors.

Except for that time when Gohan b**ch slapped Cell. Unless I'm losing my memory.

DBZKai? What's all this, now?

I was just thinking that the original DB and DBZ fans are all grown up now, too. They'll be catering to a whole new generation if they remake DBZ, because I for one can never even watch a clip again if I wanted to. They'll have to come up with something big to grab fans from the deeper and (unfortunately) better Animes recently created. Edited by Vicky

Kai is just telling the same story without the fillers. It's supposed to be condensed to 100 episodes. Honestly, if you already seen the original then you don't need to waste your time with Kai. They changed a few voices and the dialogue is a lot better this time around. The music's changed as well (from what I've seen of it... I decided to check it out but dropped after a certain point) but sounds terrible compared to Faulkoner stuff. None of the music or voice acting gave me that epic feeling. Like I said, it's just a big waste, or rather, more milking.

I agree with that too. The only DBZ related thing I watch is abridged, and that's because, well, it's abridged lol. Nah, they say a lot of what I be thinking. Theirs is funny while mine is more bashing. Edited by Phenom

if i remember right that was the last time DragonBall Z was watchable...
but even still Gohan didnt want to fight, he relied on Goku to force him to do it.... and that last hadouken(what? its what it is!) he used was powered up by Goku's spiritual presence. any more help from Goku and he may as well have been the one to beat him. Edited by CaNz
