Viper:Peregrine!

Peregrine whirls around, shocked at Viper's sudden loud outburst.

Peri:Whoa! What? What is it?

Viper:It's Liam.. something is wrong.. something evil.. we have to go find him..

Chole:Isn't he still underground or something?

Viper ignores him and looks straight at Peregrine.

Viper:Something is horribly wrong..

Chole shrugged and stood off to the corner in the shadows, fixing up his inventory...

Chole: Well, if you figure out what's wrong I'm right here...

Alan joined up with him and stood by...

Alan: Liam's going to be rejected huh?

Chole: I don't know how hell works...

Alan: ...

Chole: Well, I guess we should just not cause trouble until Peri figures out what to do before we start moving.

Alan: Or Viper...

They both stood with their back to the walls, waiting for Viper and Peri...

As soon as Viper's message resgistered in Peregrine's mind, a thousand images flashed back to her .......from the dreams sequence, from the trip through the caves, and memories of the dragon's fight.......she covered her eyes with one hand then shook her head from side to side.

Viper: Are you alright?

Peri: ...*blink* Yes..........

Chole: Are we going to go?

Thirif: Tash Naja! Peregrine!

Peri: Taitai!

She leapt to her feet and ran over to embrace her father. He was unaturally tall, almost 5'8, and he could stare right into Peregrine's eyes.....She smiled and forgot her pain for a few seconds.....they chatted rapidly in Arethrian then their faces grew grave, and their speech grew softer.

Alan: *nudge* What'd the guy say?

Viper: ...her mother is gone.

Chole: Dead?

Viper: No. Taken.

Peregrine looked upwards and stared at the strands of magic crossing around the sky. A single word fell from her lips and she sighed.

Peri: Maje....

Chole, with his crossbow set on his side and his arms folded with his back against the wall, sprung back up and joined with Viper and Alan...

Chole: You are lucky...some of us aren't able to use magic at all, especially in the north where most of the magic is nothing compared to what we're seeing right now.

Viper: Well...I don't know...

Chole: Obviously, I was born elsewhere so I can't complain too much.

Alan: What should we do now?

Chole: I'm going to look around the town for a while...

Viper: Well, if we can't find you after Peri's done, we're leaving...

Chole: Fine...

Chole quickly turned around and got his crossbow. He put it behind him and walked out of the large building, passed by many Artherians, looking at him. He searched around the city, greeting some as he passed the commoners. Normally, their place was too dangerous to make a trip to, but a lucky few make it.

Chole finally reached the back of the city where the iron walls extended around a couple of hills. He climbed them, passing by more Artherians and rested on the highest point. He sat down and focused his vision on the building that Viper, Peri, and Alan were in. He saw the multi-colored magic that was coming out of the top of the buidling and he wondered what caused that...He breathed in fresh air and lay down, looking up at the skies as that very same stream flew overhead...

Peregrine whipped herself around and ran up some stone steps to her room. She flung the door wide open and threw herself on the bed, sobbing hysterically....she whispered the same words to herself over and over...until the pain in her chest grew lighter and lighter.

Viper: *walks in* ....

Peri: Viper, my Najeh has left.....and now...there's less to fight for.

Viper: What about Chole?

Peri: He's one that I will fight for. Along with Alander, and my Taitai, and you. Even though your time here is growing shorter.

Viper: ...I know.

She rose to her feet and adjusted the chain necklace. Then she walked over to her closet and pulled on the tight, form fitting tunic that had belonged to her house for eons. Whipping the belt around her waist, she quickly tied the knot to her side and turned to Viper.

Peri: Let's go save Liam.

Viper: Yes........

The sun was setting over behind Chole's back, he was heating up before he finally decided to stand up and get back to reality...He streched with arms wide open, making a shadow over a section of the city. He looked at his shadow as he danced the old steps that were just a blur in his memory. Strangely enough, the flying slivers of magic floating in the sky, began to fall and flow around him, probably one of the most oddest, but most humbling sights Chole had ever seen. They followed his motions. Then he realized that what he was doing was his basic martial arts technique, where the rest of his moves sprung up from with plenty of practice. As he shifted positions with his hand in front of his face, palm facing up, one of the slivers rested on his hand and shone brightly...and it spoke to him.

So this was essence of magic, where Artheri gets its power from. The small sparkle in Chole's hand wasn't just some mystical power coming from the temple. It was a soul, with it's own story to tell. Each and every Artherian that used a spell, called on whoever was nearby, and they would alter the reality for them. Chole noticed that his crossbow was surrounded by the tiny glowing slivers and it also came ot his mind that there was a trapped spirit inside it, they glowed red.

Voice: Ah, I see that you have someone they'd like to meet...

Chole turned around...and old Aritherian mage stood not too far from him, holding a walking stick, dressed in regular clothing.

Chole: How...

Old Man: Can I speak your tounge? Well, I just picked it up after travelling to your Lands of Man. I'm Hirofa. One of the few surviving elders of Aritheri.

Chole: What about someone they'd like to meet?

Hirofa: I mean inside your crossbow, it's holding one of those spirits that you see floating about you. I guess that dance that you did really got their attention.

Chole remembered Outlaw's soul as it left his body...

Chole: So all these people...are dead?

Hirofa: No, they're very much alive...in another plane of existence.

Chole: And my bow?

Hirofa: I have a feeling that it's been locked up for quite some time and its powers used for many purposes. But you, my son...you seem to be using it well because the soul trapped inside is not lonely.

Chole: It has aided me in many of my journeys.

Hirofa: And given you many things...may I see it?

Chole reached behind him and pulled the crossbow out of its resting place on his pack. He handed it carefully over to Hirofa...the spirits followed...

Hirofa: It's heavy...but you've adjusted to it. *closes his eyes* You're a good man, Chole...with a good heart...you know how to use your crossbow very well and I hope you continue to do so for a very long time.

Chole: Whoa...you got all of that from it...I mean...him?

Hirofa: Well, it's a her, actually...your guardian.

Chole: Nga!

Hirofa: Haha...she has no name...nor does she want one...just take good care of her, like you are trying to be to the one you love.

Chole: What?

Hirofa: The sprit inside your crossbow is telling me also your deepest thoughts...don't worry, I'm not going to go further into your personal life...she won't tell me...

Chole: Okay...:therock:

Hirofa: Well, whoever it is, I bid you a happy life with her, as well as your guardian...

With that said, high mage Hirofa waved his hand and the sprits around Chole's crossbow flew back into the sky. They watched all of them join back with the stream and Hirofa handed it back.

Hirofa: Someday, it'll talk to you when your life is complete...I bid you farewell...

Chole: Nice to meet you...

Chole and Hirofa turned around and headed their seperate directions without turning back. Chole headed back towards the city as the lights from each to the buildings flickered to life. He held his crossbow in his hands, thinking of what power it possessed. No matter how much it did, he knew that he would never misuse it, no matter what the circumstances. He also thought about what Hirofa said, about his love. He thought about Lady Perigrine, back at the desert where she confessed her love to him. He wondered if the spirit inside his weapon knew it too. Chole did have the weapon for as long as he could remember...

Viper: CHOLE!!!!

He heard Viper's loud shouting from the distance and started walking much faster. His eyes closed in on her calling out from a window of the upper floors of the temple.

Chole: I'll be right there...

As his eyes were locked on Viper, he looked inside the room and noticed Lady Perigrine on the bed...

Chole: ...for you...

Chole continued down the hillside, into the temple. Little did he know that a few slivers strayed from the stream and followed him from a distance. One of whom...was Outlaw's soul...

Peregrine looked at Viper slowly, her eyes narrowing, then opening wide. She drew her scabbard on her belt and turned to the door. But before she did, she walked over to the small table next to her bed. She opened a small laquered box and drew out a pair of silver hoop earings and a pair of light blue gems.

Viper: They're beautiful.

Peri: *puts them on* They were my Najeh's. I knew my Taitai would leave them here for me.......so I would always remember.

She shut the box carefully, as if she was closing a part of herself. Then she pointed her boots towards the door.

From the corner of her eyes, Viper noticed Chole outside the complex as he entered. With him, trailed hundreds of sprits...

Peri: What's wrong?

Viper: Oh...nothing...they're really nice...

Viper knew what had happened to him. His style of walk didn't suite his old nature any longer. She had to time this perfectly...

Viper: So...where is Alan sleeping?

Peri: The room across us...my relatives made accomodations.

Viper: And Chole?

Peri: Well...he's with Alan...

Viper: I have a bad feeling about this.

Peri: Why? We're not at each other's throats, are we?

Viper: No...but we're not sisters either.

Viper heard his foosteps coming up on the third floor...

Viper: Its just a risk...you never know if Chole came from the local tavern or not...

Peri: Maybe...

Peri: I don't care. I've done the same things to acheive my goals.

Viper: .....I guessed.

Peri: .......alright, I do care. But not as much as I should. And we dont' even know if he did really go. And I'm not going to ask.

Viper: Good choice.

Peri: Come on, dinner is waiting.

Viper: You know that already?

Peri: I have connections.

Chole walked rather briskly along the hallway, not noticing the open door to his left. Peri jumped out of her room and stood in front of Chole, unexpectedly...they both paused...

Viper: Where is dinner though? *peers over corner* Oh...

Chole: Umm...hello...

Peri took a deep breath to releive her tension. She noticed that Chole didn't carry that familar scent of a watering hole and she opened her mouth.

Peri: Let's eat...

They looked into each others eyes and stood still for several seconds. Viper left them alone for a while to grab Alan out of bed...a scream and a rustling noise broke the silence.

Chole: Like Viper said...where?

Peri: Just down the stairs, in the main dining hall. We're having guests so I think you might want to put away some things.

Chole: *looks behind at his crossbow* Oh...

Peri: Yeah, that...it'll only be for an hour or so...it'll be safe here.

Chole: Okay...*turns left*

Peri: Umm...

Chole set his crossbow, pack, and armor down by the cabinet of Peri and Viper's room...

Chole: Not here?

Peri: No! no...it's alright...

Viper came out, holding arms with Alan, still groggy...

Viper: This guy' is some sleepy head...C'mon...we have to eat.

Viper and Alan headed down the hallway...but before she took to the stairs, she looked back at Peri and Chole...

Viper: ;)

Then she vanished...leaving Chole and Iris alone in the hallway together.

Chole: Shall we, then?

Peri: -_-; she set us up...

Chole: I know...but who else would you be escorted by?

Peri: ...

Chole: Embarrased?

Peri: Oh no...sorry...

Lady Perigrine blushed red and took Chole's hand...he joined her side and they walked downstairs to the huge dining hall...

Liam woke up, every bit of him like lead, mutinous to movement. Raising his eyes, he looked around to see where he was, and found himself very much alone in one of the many dank recesses of the underworld

Liam: urk...*stands up and leans against the wall* huh? *he moves his hand close to his face to see it covered with blood* charming....just charming...night vision gone...no recollection of where I am...charming just charming...the only way this to get worse is if I had...*he raises his hand to conjure fire*.....no powers...

Liam slumped down and leant against the putrid wall, inviting a death that would never come, a death to free himself...

 • 2 weeks later...
Peri: Gash naza.

Thirif: Welcome travelers. Be seated please.

The three sat down uncertainly, and the feast began. Chole nudged Peregrine under the table and whispered into her ear.

Chole: What's this?

Peri: ...that would be a salad.

Chole: Any meat?

Peri: *points* Lamb, Shank, Pork, and Tripe.

Chole sat there quietly with his hands folded under the table...Thirif started to make conversation with him.

Thirif: So, I've heard that you've been here before?

Chole: Once...and not in the city either, just passing by. You wouldn't let me in last time.

Thirif: Umm... -_-;

Chole: ...

Viper: There's an ominous silence...something must be wrong...

Peri: Quiet...it's just a simple misunderstanding...

Thirif: Yes, quite frankly, you see, we normally don't let outsiders in.

Chole: And why is that? You're armed to the teeth with magic protection, what could go wrong?

Thirif: There's a lot that could go wrong...we have to be careful to see if you're a practicer of the dark arts.

Alan: *whispers* Liam...

Viper: No...don't mention him...

Thirif: Mention who?

Viper: Oh, nothing, my lord...please continue.

Thirif: As I was saying, we can't be too careful with these things.

Chole: I understand...but now you don't worry as much as you used to?

Thirif: We still do...but we realized that we can't just shut ourselves off from trading....we need that link alive to thrive.

Peri: For people who are brave enough to get through such a mountain pass.

Chole: I have one question...is it true that the clouds overhead have spirits within them?

Viper turns to Alan and smiles. She feels its best not to involve herself. Viper doesn't want the entire city to know she is a goddess. She turns again to Peri.

Viper waits for a few minutes until there is a break in the silence. She sets her hand on Peri's shoulder and whispers into her ear.

Viper:I'd like to speak to you alone after dinner for a few minutes please..

Peri:Alright..

Viper smiles and sits back up. She turns and asks for the potatoes.

Throughout the rest of the dinner, Chole remained quiet and excused himself the moment he was done with his dish of young chicken with a side of lettuce and tomatoes in Artherian spices.

Chole: Thank you for a wonderful meal, my lord...

Thirif: Oh, the pleasure's all mine...

Chole: :therock:

Peri: Dont' sweat it...it's a foreign tounge.

Chole: *gets up*

Alan: Where are you going?

Without saying a word, Chole left the dinner hall and up the flight of stairs, back into where he set down his stuff. He looked out into the nighttime sky through an open window, at the clouds of magic overhead...

Lady Peregrine and Viper swiftly consumed the remainder of their meal, then stood up, bowed, and left the room. Peregrine led Viper up several flights of stairs, then down a long hall. She opened another door and looked up at another set of steps. Then she charged up, taking them two at a time, then she opened a final door and they were on a roof. It was completely flat, forming a smooth plateau that looked down on the rest of Thelenyalli.

Viper: Wonderful view.

Peri: Yes, this is the place I go to restore my heart.

Viper: ....my time grows short.

Peri: I remember...and I'm not pleased.

Chole sat on the window, enjoying the cool night air with his feet dangling over the edge. He breathed in and closed his eyes, trying to be at peace with himself.

Chole: huh?

He heard soft voices from above him...they seemed familiar, but he paid no attention to whoever they were. He was happy he had no worries at the moment. After hearing Hirofa's words on what really goes on inside magic, he felt more appreciaction for the things around him...especially his crossbow. It housed a spirit...trapped inside...yet happy for Chole to be her Master...someday...maybe he would know her name. Or, he thought, he might already know...

OOC: I couldn't resist the old english, doing shakespeare and all:)
-----------

Visions blurred in out of dreams, past and present meshing together as one, then the screaming erupted. Liam awoke in a cold sweat, bringing him back to his hell

Liam: *clutches his chest, wiping the salty liquid from his eyes* I have got to get out of here. .

He slowly gets to his feet, and trips, body mutinised against movement. As he landed, his hands flew out to cushion the fall. A sharp pain jolted his arm, crying out, he cradled it and ripped out a broken blade from his hand. Blood leaked from the wound, mixing with the tears that were now flowing freely

A sneering voice rings out "Whatever happened to the once mighty chosen one of nagil? Pain was nothing to you," the voice laughs, "you did not fear death, now you are reduced to a sobbing wreck. .pitiful really. ."

Liam: Demon! Why do thou persecutest me? I have no strife with thee! Leave me in my sorrow, leave me be!

???: ah, temper temper. .strife you have naught, but your pain and fear feeds me well

Liam: *looks down, away from the voice, even though the blackness leaves him seeing naught* demon, plague me not. .leave me be. .

The same cold, mocking laughter rings out again as Liam crawls into a tight ball, shivering as the pain racks him and the blood leaves him

Hey guys, sorry i haven't been posting, i've just had a round of assesments. I did okay in them, i'm coming 5th out of 124 in english, so i gotta be pleased with that! Anywho, i'll try to get back into the swing of things......

- - - - -- - -- - - - -- - - -- - - - - - -- - -- -

Memories....fantasies......useless dreams.

A crack rang out in the cold night air as a vase fell to the floor.

Over the horizon, the sky answered with a bass trembling reply.

There were demons in the air, and thunder in the sky.

It was an omen if there ever was one, thought Alan, hugging his cloak tighter to his frame and striding in from the balcony.

The group was disintergrating. Since Outlaw's death, they had been on a slide to the nether regions of despair, and none of them were holding up all too well. Chole so introspected it was frightening, Viper and Peri whispering cladestinely in dimly lit corners, Liam sufferring who knows what in his purgatory. And he, as helpless as ever, wondering and doing...nothing.

Ay, it was an omen, he thought. Things were about to get a whole lot worse....

Viper:We can save Liam, but I fear that doing so will rob me of my last mortal energy and I will have to ascend..

Peri:Into a better life..

Viper:I will not leave you down here and do nothing to protect you.. I owe my life and future to you.. and Liam.. which is why I must not let him die.. Peregrine..

Peri:Viper..

Viper:We cannot wait any longer.. it is time..

Peregrine and Viper nodded to each other and Viper left over the top balcony. She plummeted and fell onto the balcony three floors below. She grabbed a stricken Chole and leapt again, grabbing Alan and finally landing on the ground. The thirif stood in the doorway next to Lady Peregrine.

Peri:Come, my father owns the swiftest horses in the land..

Peregrine gestured to the back of the house and Viper followed her swiftly. She stood before several tall, muscular, built, brown horses. Viper was not choosy in that she leapt on the first one. Viper sped off towards the epicenter of the demons, waiting for no one. Her eyes glittered dangerously and the weather grew angry around her.

The laughter fades out. .and becomes silent, then the demon speaks

"mmm. .your friends are coming. .ah well, their quest will be in vain, no-one escapes the clutches of Nagil. .especially when he's angry"

A little glimmer of hope sparks inside Liam's heart, giving him some comfort, but then. .it faded. .this could be another of the demons tricks. .Liam sighed, and willed his body to stand. Something gave him his sapped strength back, he started to walk around, feeling the gory walls for an exit

"eh? what are you doing? No-one has escaped before, especially those that go against Nagil, taking up a new god, a goddess even," the demon spits, "Pity we can't imprison her. .but the others would make handsome trophies. .especially her loved one. ."

Liam stops, a well of hatred burst, like lighting a furnace in his mind. It gave him more strength, and he screamed a volley of curses and vows at the demon. Silence fell and the demon shrivelled

Liam: . . .b*stard. .how in heck do I get out of here. .

He ran his fingers over the walls, gradually making his way along, all the while the fire burning in his mind.

Slowly the passage seemed to go up higher, the demons and spirits kept to themselves, either afraid of him, or plotting and exact revenge

Liam remained oblivious, all he wanted to do was ensure the security of his friends. .that and running a blade through the immortal a** of Nagil

Liam: b*stard

"What the f_ck is going on?" Alan shouted into the wind, his cry going unheeded save for the unsagely nod of Chole's head.

"Where are we going? What's the rush?" were just as ignored, as the silhouettes of Viper and Peri become mere specks against the horizon.

Far ahead of Alan Viper burned inwardly, with a rage unbeknownst to any creature save the great Pendrake of legend. She would murder this god a thousand times and again, for he would deprieve her of the one she cherished most.

"Alan," the roaring wind screamed, then just as quickly swept his name away.

Her destination grew closer.

Peri: Straight down.

Viper: Right!

Peri: RAKATA!!!!

She clapped her wings to her sides and plummeted straight down into the ground, penetrating sand and rock. Then she hit nothing and landed on her feet, in the tunnel they had traveled in earlier. Viper landed next to her lightly and the two hit the ground as a spirit whooshed over their heads. Peregrine stood up, then arched her back and snarled. A change rippled through her and she trasnformed into a big white tiger. Viper leapt onto her back and the two padded down the tunnel silently.
