Housesitting gone awry. Advice, please.
conpiracymonki replied to Sara's topic in General Discussion
OK I'm kinda confused (what's different there?) but here's what I think, if I'm understanding the situation correctly.. The original contract: 1st night = $100 Summer = $400, where summer is 12 days' pay ^If that's right, then the original $100 shouldnt even come into play when considering how much to give back to the fam. So we're really only considering the summer pay. But then your summerwork changes to: Summer + extra night, with final 2 days cancelled, right? ^$400 for 11 days' work? That works out to be a little over $36/night. AJ suggestion: I say calculate your hours in a house-sitting day and work out what you're getting paid per hour, for summer days. Then give yourself a realistic hourly wage for that work. Theen..

If your made-up wage is less than what they're paying you, calculate how much extra they're 'unnecessarily' paying you (even though they agreed to it) over the 11 days and give that back, along with your conclusive calculations.
If your made-up wage is more than what they're paying you, calculate how much they should owe you for your services. Then leave them a note explaining that your time is worth more, along with your calculations showing how much they owe. Also mention in the note that maybe next time they should stick to the what was outlined within the original contract. You could imply that when they altered the contract, the price of your services was altered too.
This way, what you owe depends on your worth to them lol. Oh, and don't pay for the plants or whatever other little inconveniences you may have caused them. It's not like you damaged anything.
If all else fails, anonymously toiletpaper and egg their house in the night, mhm.
-
You say it like we're not oh-so betterer than the mods =p ..I'm probably only speaking for myself but I'd rather not have a useless sticky loitering (you know what I mean) at the top of the Lounge constantly, that I'm never going to check. It would be so annoying, cos I like my stickys temporary, dammit! If it were anywhere else, I think I'm up for a newbie thread thing. But having it anywhere else makes it less announcement-ish, and defeats the whole point of introducing yourself to the community I guess. In short, I have nothing useful to contribute.
Except my anti-sticky propaganda. You will cave in to my demands.

I think that should be strives, not strafes
In your face, because he said straves, according to Baron's quote! Your boldness costs you.

Man I wish my strongest emotion was something overly dramatic and cool-sounding like anger or ultimate self-loathing or something, but nah. It's happiness. I cant help that I'm just one of those unusually cheerful people that take everything on the chin and get back up and back at it, usually sooner than later. My being happy seems to rub off on those around me a lot too, so yeah. It's definitely my most powerful emotion: it keeps me going and affects those around me. :)

How Old Do You Think You Are?
conpiracymonki replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in General Discussion
I'm 18, but based off appearances I'd probably say I look like I'm in my 20s/30s. It's only cos I keep a facetight beard though lol. I have a babyface under it though, and there's no fooling some people lol :( As for behaviourally, I'd probably guess myself to be 17/18. I spend most of my time laughing my *** off at anything that moves, but when it comes down to it, I can be extremely mature and responsible. AJ is balanced, yes. -
I was actually quite surprised on what was on the lists. For instance, alot from AJeh's list caught my eye, because I don't think I have ever met a member of the male gender that actually appreciates these things. Is it for real?[/color']
Well we're talking about guys first of all. As a general, I dont think we like girls to know what we want when it's 'fluffy' stuff like this. But I bet you every guy has a list of similar little things they dig about girlies lol. I know most of my mates do anyway from one-on-one convos.. they'd never talk about this stuff in a group lol.

Sometimes gets a little lost in her thoughts. I get so curious about what's goin on in a girl's mind when they suddenly have that daydream look on their face, lol. Having said that.I like it when girls tell you what they're thinking. Going off on a big tangent makes them so loveable lol.
It's interesting, but I never thought that men even noticed this. Do they really? This is so unbelievable to me - where are all of these guys? I've always been given the impression that it's a little bit annoying when girls go off on wild tangents...it might be cute for a while, but all the time?
Why does everybody assume we're morons lol. Although having said that, I think guys who like this even know they like it, you know? I just pay attention to myself is all lol.

Isn't spoilt, but likes to be spoiled. I like to randomly give things, yay! =)
You must be joking. Guys actually like to give things to girls? Isn't this kind of a bother? Most guys I know are extremely thrifty...including with their girlfriends.
I'm not saying diamond rings and jewelry lol. But gifts in general; lots of them though. I'm too broke to get things I want, nevermind somebody else lol.

They have to be curious. I think when girls ask questions it makes them seem a little naive or something. Definitely adds to that cuteness factor. A couple tiny insecurities help. I dont need someone who doesnt need me, you know?
I find this most intriguing. Most of the guys I know find the naivette a bit amusing, but cute? I guess it's because I'm very much like this, but most people find it cute in a child-like way, not an attractive way. My friends commonly tease me about being akin to that of a 12-year old (I'm 18, finally), and I'm the equivalent of everyone's little sister. Please do explain this one. As for insecurities...most of my friends find them to be irritating, to say the least.
Well I dunno about other guys, but it does it for me lol.

Is a bit (at least) of a child at heart. If you don't have a little bit of a Peter Pan complex then there's no magic in your eyes. Boy do I like my wonderment. She has to have a bit of a sweet-tooth lol. I refuse to like anybody that hates chocolate or sweets. So there.
These are so endearing! How sweet ^_^
Yay, something I dont have to explain!
I guess I'm actually surprised that most of the lists here written by the guys, are things that many girls would appreciate. But...how is it that we never meet these people?[/SIZE']
;p

I've always managed to be popular/under-the-radar popular, somehow. Before high school I moved house, so I only knew a handful of kids. It just so happened that me and my 3 closest friends somehow become really influential within our class. We kinda hooked up cos of our deep interest in WWF & games at the time, but all four of us were nothing alike. And um yeah, by the end of the year we pretty much had the whole class behind the 4 of us like some sort of movement because everyone was close with atleast one of us lol. The four of us carried on getting popular as the years went on, but we grew apart too because our interests were so different lol. I think by the final year of high school, everyone in my year and the one below me knew my name as well as probably 60% of the rest of the school. Great feeling. Enter college. It was a scary change and we definitely didnt like the kids from the suburbs. Just because. We pretty much assumed everyone was stuck-up and tried our damnedest not to make any new friends, because we were obviously better than them (hypocritical, no?). We werent popular or unpopular, but we were very known because of the high school we came from and because of our excluding behaviour. 2nd year college and we decided behaving like jerks was doing anybody any favours so we loosened up around everyones. I think everyone was in shock at the sudden change in all of us lol, cos suddenly everybody was up in our face wanting to talk lol. To be honest though, most of the people at college were fairly plain compared to us so our quirky personalities may have um.. contributed to our sudden popularity. I mean, I was the only guy who could walk around and hug any other guy at will and give dap to the girlies without anyone raising an eyebrow lol. Generally speaking, I think one thing that attracts people to me is my urge to involve people somehow. I end up organising events and get-togethers, or helping out someone else behind the scenes etc. The downside of being liked I think is when you're constantly getting calls and texts at like 3 and 6 in the morning, and everyone actually expects a response lol. I like my sleep =/

I'm with The Boss on this one lol. I think generally every girl has their own unique appeal. But add to that the fact that whenever you fall for a girl, you seem to always sort of.. converge(?) towards her personality and tastes etc just a little, and I dont think anyone really has an accurate list of what the want lol. Having said that, here's mine ;p (I'll stick to specific things)

Loves music, I dont care what kind. If you have no love for music, you have no soul ;p
Doesnt smoke. I dont mind smokers, but I associate the smell of smoke with my dad. And I'd ..rather not be thinking of my Dad while I'm holding hands with a girl.
Sometimes gets a little lost in her thoughts. I get so curious about what's goin on in a girl's mind when they suddenly have that daydream look on their face, lol. Having said that..
I like it when girls tell you what they're thinking. Going off on a big tangent makes them so loveable lol.
Quirky. Boring = boredom
Isnt spoilt, but likes to be spoiled. I like to randomly give things, yay! =)
So there.
A nice smile. Giggling gets to me too.
They have to be curious. I think when girls ask questions it makes them seem a little naive or something. Definitely adds to that cuteness factor.
A couple tiny insecurities help. I dont need someone who doesnt need me, you know?
Talk to me. Pretty much same as the above point.
And there you have it.. AJ's makeshift perfect chick! :D

Having had to see the film for a third time lol, I came rushing (well not really, it's taken me nearly 2 days) in here to tell you guys of my find:
that Tia Dalma has a locket the same as Davy Jones'. I noticed it on the table when Jack was pinching jewels and rings off her lol. The camera spends an awful amount of time focused on the table after Jack picks up the jewel/ring/whatever, so yeah.
Kinda easy to notice cool little things when you dont have to focus on the story lol. But um yeah, I was beaten to it ;p However I was thinking..
maybe there are parallels to be drawn between Davy Jones/Tia Dalma(?) and Jack/Elizabeth. The whole thing about Jones falling in love with a woman wild as the sea. Doesnt Elizabeth seem to slowly get more and more drastic in her actions to get what she wants? From holding that guy at gunpoint, to manipulating a whole crew, to saving her own skin by sacrificing Jack. Wild! ;p And it's quite obvious Jack's fallen for Elizabeth: the compass points to her as well as the dead man's chest before they dig it out; the compass leads him back to the Black Pearl when he's trying to run away; and he doesnt say a word when Elizabeth cuffs him to the ship.
-- You may all love me now, yo.

What would you outlaw in your fascist dictatorship?
conpiracymonki replied to DeadSeraphim's topic in General Discussion
Well first I'd demand ownership of any and all businesses bigger than market stalls including cornershops, all the way upto the industry, RIAA and all. You may make money, just dont try making it without me, you worthless peasant. I'd be allowed to kill at will. You know those irritating Sundays when you have a headache and someone nearby must absolutely be torched alive to make amends? Yeah, that's why. I find it unfair how much tax we as a nation had to pay, so dammit, being the spiteful being I am, I shall create all sorts of ridiculous forms of tax for my subjects. Some will be hidden included charges and some will be pick and choose-ey. Road tax, wheel tax, window tax.. I'll keep 17.5% inclusive VAT and hell, I'll add a secondary VAT on top (I'd call it Tax Tax). I obviously dont pay tax, morons, I get tax. The French have to pay double tax, the Chinese pay half. Cute Japanese chicks pay less tax. You know what causes revolutions? Unity and education. I'll build heavily guarded walls between cities and countries, with travel between each being closely controlled. Yay for disruption and halted spread of communication! As for the education part, I'll make damn sure everyone stays ignorant to a certain degree. You dont need a PhD to build pyramids, idiots! By the same token, news will be 100% filtered by me before airing. Go me! I'd torch Texas to the ground and turn it into the world's biggest (but probably not only) torture prison. I'd personally design the torture designs to be used and boy can I get creative. Hurray for active imagination! I'd burn down all previous works of art and demand everyone start over. I dont care if it was a painting of his mother. Paint me something relevant I could give a damn about. I dont have a problem with creativity, but my reign will be one where only I'm allowed to be pretentious. And only because I can. You may decode your cries of oppression behind heavily worded poems, I dont care. If I dont get it, them morons wont either. You know what's a real classic read? Fantastic Mr Fox. Oh, and The Avocado Baby, too. I'd do my bit for the environment too. I dont need nature weirding out on me during my time to shine, man. Since I'll be littering as much as I fancy, I'll be needing official litter pickers. And more than that, I'd outlaw littering and heavily stress recycling. Stop destroying my world you idiots! >:o I think I might have some of them Australian and American folk be symbiotically fused with rainforest plants or something. I'm sure they can live their lives fine with 2 or 3 herbaceous plants growing on their backs, right? Either way, I needs my oxygen, suckers. -- I'll add more as they hit me lol. -
OK just listened to a leaked(?) song titled "Daydream" and I need the following question immediately answered:
Is anyone else going Lupe-crazy?
That guy is insanely insane. How the hell is he that good lol. Please tell me someone else is a fan. He's the guy with the third verse in Kanye's Touch The Sky, if it helps at all. Anyone that can mention Mum-Ra & Lupin the 3rd in a verse is nerdy enough for my attention!

Lucky for me, my bro came home this weekend only for the weekend, and my sister caught the chickenpox and couldnt go. Soo, I've seen it once already and get to watch it again this upcoming Saturday. Go me! DW, I'm gonna try look out for
the monkey pullin on Barbossa's leg
lol. I love it when they put random lowkey things like that in films lol. Almost makes it more worth going back for the replay, those teases do. Yay! Also thanks for the
monkey curse
explanation. I didnt see/remember that in/from the first one. Also, why am I the only person so far in this thread to think the Jack-bamboo sequence was hilarious enough to worth mentioning? This is an outrage, I say!
I tell ya, the mormons are like the sunnis of christianity.[/COLOR']
Except for the fact that approximately 85% of the world's Muslims are Sunnis, so that made no sense whatsoever really. Nice try at putting down Mormons whilst seeming informed at the same time, though.

Oh no you did not just overlook Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... Yeah, that's what I thought! :p

Off the top of my head, some of the general-er ones: - I used to think I could dig to China. Lord knows I tried :( I only used to do it in this one specific spot though, beside the hedge of my old front yard. As if digging anywhere else would take me to the wrong country lol. - I used to think I could make robots out of kitchen roll, toilet roll and allsorts. I blame that one on all the cheap films we used to watch my cousin's house. His dad owned the local video shop and his house and mine had one road separating them so I'd be at his house near enough everyday after school watching films and stuff until like 1-3am. Man, all those weird films.. we were like test subjects O_O
On a related note: does anyone know the name of some sort of old flick where there's this robot with traffic lights set into his chest or something? >_>
- Whenever I used to find some sort of random object, I'd always treat it as though it was magical. Like onetime I found this key in my garden shed. One of the heavy grey ones.. and I used to frequently wash it with all sorts of junk, hoping it'd one day turn golden and lead me to something. Never happened =/ Um, I'll add more as I remember lol

*raises hand* I know what you mean about people sounding better on their mixtapes lol. Mo Money In The Bank 4 = very nice. I'm not really into Crunk, Krumping and Hyphy at all though. I think generally I tend to go for lyricism and lyrics although that's me being being extremely overly general with my tastes. My alltime top 3 rappers are Pac, Eminem and DMX. Most of the acts coming out of the south I aint really into, but I do still like a lot of them.. Chamillionaire, Lil Wayne, TI, Luda, OutKast etc. Artists like Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Mike Jones arent really my kind of thing =/ I like oldschooly/undergroundy samply productions. Jin's Properganda album is a nice example lol. I do listen to some less mainstream artists but not to the point where I'm all elitist about it lol. Right now I'm bored of waiting for people like Budden, Kweli, Mr Mef etc to drop so I've gone back to UK Hiphop. Sway = cool (his myspace). Checkout Akala's "It's Not A Rumour" (his myspace) if you can be bothered. It's very rock-ish and the guy has something to say lol. But I may be slightly biased that a London emcee shouted out my neighbourhood within the first minute of his album opener lol :o
The prettiest song I ever heard was Radical Dreamers ~Unstolen Jewel~ from the Chrono Cross Soundtrack. It's the ending song to the game and plays during the final credits. If you have never heard it, it is basically just an acoustic guitar playing with a female singing vocals in Japanese. It is very simple but nice to listen to and fits well with the theme of the game. The melody is soft and sweet and the singer has a tremendously beautiful voice.
I never got round to finishing that game lol. But I remember Time's Scar from the opening of Chrono Cross was a really 'pretty' instrumental lol.
-
I never knew there was this big mystery with clues inside the album.
There's some sort of story to solve within the album? You so have to elaborate now. Or else.
-
"Loyalty first"/"Family first" 'Family first'.. I'm not sure where I first heard it but it's evolved into 'Loyalty first' somewhere through the years lol. It's basically a lot more general and applicable than it sounds. It kinda spawns off the idea of that other quote 'stand for something or fall for nothing'. You need to find the things in your life worth holding onto.. the things worth sacrificing for. Religion, friends, family, that special girl, an education, your ideals, whatever. You find those certain things and by (kinda) prioritising them against everything else, you can put your loyalty into them. And although sometimes you may be put into compromising situations, you'll always know where you stand. Could you go against your own ideals for a friend? Would you be willing to wrong someone else for a friend? Would you be willing to wrong yourself for a friend? Yeah, things like that. ..Just to know where you stand with issues, I guess. Loyalty first.

Me and a friend were makin a dark chocolate cake as a birthday present. We overdid the airing thing and it ended up popping in the oven and cracking. The top mushroomed out and cracked and burnt. So.. we cut off the burnt bit, flattening the top. Then we added a whole tub of Nutella to the chocolate topping we made so there was enough to hold the rest of the cake together (and hide the scarred surface). The Nutella addition gave us too much topping so we ended up 'topping' the sides of the cake too. The Nutella made it real shiny though so, as distractions, we threw chocolate flakes all over the sides and smaller flakes over the top. Then because we forgot icing, we put strawberries along the outside of the cake. The next day we bought icing fresh, and finished it off. And yes it actually turned out to taste good :animestun Edit: The picture doesnt do the cake any justice =/

No way did we just have a thread all about pretty music and noone before me mentions Imogen Heap :o All the songnames are links to the lyrics btw. I dont understand why when it comes to other genres, everyone is willing to go beyond what they see on TV and look for decent bands and artists. But then when it comes to hiphop they can't be bothered to do the same. Instead everyone generally decides they just have to have a bash at rap because what they see on MTV surely encompasses the whole of rap music.. right. And to Cygnus, just because you dont appreciate the art it doesnt mean there arent any talented artists within it :)

I downloaded it for now.. me needs money in my pocket before I even begin to decide if it's worth it lol. Just before you read into my quick review thing, I heard Sing The Sorrow first, so if the band's been changing album to album then I cant comment on that. And um yeah, it shows what kinda sound I was expecting to hear off them to ebgin with, I guess. Prelude 12/21 - Very nice hard hitting intro. The lyrics are nice and the drums sound all kickass and loud and ..tribal? Kill Caustic - It's ok. I can listen to it, but I prefer others on the album over it. I dunno what else to really say that hasnt been said. Miss Murder - I didnt like this at first. It sounded too plain and generic or something. But it grew on me and I cant even say when =/ Summer Shudder - I heart lol. It's like.. calm, and yet anthemic. Love near the end when the beat drops, or whatever, and then Davey starts singing again.. eee! The Interview - I didnt like this one at first but it's actually quite nice for a slowy song. Makes for nice revision music I've decided lol. Love Like Winter - I heart agains lol. It reminds me of like VH1 or something and it's pretty poppy (2 things I generally distance myself from), but it's nice. Affliction - I can only listen to like the first 35 seconds or so of this song. The tune is very frantic but it just has a repetitive feel to it, even though it does actually switch up. I dunno. The Missing Frame - It's nice again but takes a while to get to itself for me lol. Makes nice background music though. Kiss and Control - It's ok. Not so into this song. I like the lead-up to the chorus lol. The Killing Lights - Me likey! ^_^ The guitar to the 'killing time again' to the parts with the panting (?) and where the tune chops up as some sort of a pre-cursor to the 'cut cut cut cut cut' section.. so cool. 37mm - The first few seconds had me like 'what the hell' lol. It's different, but very nice. Nice and fairly laidback to the point I could play it and kickbak to it. The outro with the Davey-sample thing is funky, in a nice way. Endlessly, She Said - It's nice, lol. I dunno what else to say. For some reason this song makes me feel gloomy lol. (Hidden track) - I love this lol. It's a only-under-2 minutes instrumental with a little phone recording over a part of it but it kicks ***. Soothing. The beat kinda reminds me of Fort Minor's "Where'd You Go". Maybe cos of the drum pattern or something. And that's me done with it :)

So I was browsing the tinternet (as I do lol) and came across some quote pages. One of them was a quote from a film I've never seen before, Woody Allen's "Manhattan" which goes:
Why is life worth living? It's a very good question. Um...Well, There are certain things I guess that make it worthwhile. uh...Like what... okay...um...For me, uh... ooh... I would say ... what, Groucho Marx, to name one thing... uh...um... and Willie Mays... and um ... the 2nd movement of the Jupiter Symphony ... and um... Louis Armstrong, recording of Potato Head Blues ... um ... Swedish movies, naturally ... Sentimental Education by Flaubert ... uh... Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra ... um ... those incredible Apples and Pears by Cezanne... uh...the crabs at Sam Wo's... uh... Tracy's face ...[/font']
And um yeah. It kinda just made me wonder what things make life worth living for me right now. I dont mean cheesy general things like 'my family & friends' but specific things. So this right here's my off-the-top list of 20: - Saturdays and summer - Doodling - Daydreaming - Music (including all those guilty pleasures :o) - Scrubs & Futurama - Excuses to dress up in a suit - Fun :) And Funnyness - Listening to my babysister's views on the world, lol - um.. the World Cup :D - Emoticons! :o :o :o =) - Seeing your impact on and in others ^_^ - That cool blue colour.. the one you're not quite sure whether it's really blue or green or aqua each and every single time you see it - Dutch pancakes with maple syrup & vanilla icecream =p - Pretty girlies - Moneys, when you have it.. and on that note: - Monopoly! - Free text messages - Latenight walks, with or without other people - Stealing my sister's accessories lol - Vimto lollies So um yeah. What would make your list? Try not to get overly serious with them =p
