Malkav, your last post was unneccessarily rude and insulting. That kind of crap will absolutely not be tolerated on the boards, whatsoever. People come here to have fun and develop their writing skills, not to be cut down and belittled. This is your warning - if I ever see that you've insulted or talked down to another member in the same way again then you will be banned. Period. Please review OB's rules so that this does not happen again. - Arcadia

Oh, not the flu. Don't you hate that? It's been going around my campus.. I don't know one person who hasn't had some form of it. Gross. ...Ahem, back on topic. This is really, really impressive, Miss Meth. As everybody else has pretty much mentioned, it's a nice change from the usual silly, humorous parodies you find. What I really like about it though is the awesome potential you have here because of the serious nature of the piece. Seems to me that there's some real issues beneath all the layers and that's very cool. I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of stuff you do with it. Again, nice job. And... if you ever want to run some ideas by somebody, just let me know. ^_~
"...However, he kept eyeing me. Like I was some sort of spammer," Drix paused.
Ha ha, that part was great. The last couple chapters have been fantastic, Annsie darling. Very excellent writing, and very funny. All the stuff with Kitty's hat was great. ^_~ This new fight scene screams Kill Bill to me, heh. I guess that's rather fitting, considering who it is we're talking about. Oh well, yeah for shiny swords! And something about Alex as a Jewish Mother... *shudder* Good grief.

Again, Feyrbrand, please do not bring back inactive threads. It only clutters the Inn. Remember to check the dates of RPGs before replying to them. Read through the Inn's sticky, as well as OB's rules, before posting again anywhere. Thanks, Arcadia

This thread is closed because it does not contain a proper rating in the title. If you want to save any information from this RPG, I suggest copying and pasting it into Word - it will be deleted in a few days. If you would like to try this RPG again, you can, but only if it has a thread rating! Please read through the Inn's Sticky (at the top of the forum) - all of this and more is explained very thoroughly there. Thanks ^_^ - Arcadia

soulreaper, please read through the Square's sticky before you continue to post here in the forum. RPGs follow a few specific guidelines in the Inn in order to stay open and right now, yours is not one of them. For instance, all RPGs must have a decent background story in order to remain open - generally three to four paragraphs. The RPG should also have a proper rating in the title or it will immediately be closed, no questions asked. All of this is thoroughly explained in the sticky, so it's very important you check that out. Looking through some other RPGs might also give you a better idea as to how things work in the Arena. If you have any questions afterwards, don't hesitate to send me a private message or post your concerns in the Suggestion and Feedback forum. Thanks, Arcadia

Once again, Feyrbrand, please refrain from bringing back dead RPGs. I think it's safe to assume that if it's a year old, you won't be able to participate. The best thing to do is just wait for another pokemon RPG to pop up (and one will, trust me). If you have any questions, please let me know. And remember: make sure you read the rules so this does not happen again. A ban warning might otherwise be in order. - Arcadia

Unfortunately, ..., you have not included a rating in the title of your RPG so this thread is now closed. Please copy anything that you need from this so that you don't lose it entirely when it's deleted in a few days time. You can repost the RPG and try again, if you like, as long as you include a proper rating. Please read through the Square's sticky - all of this and more is clearly explained there. Feyrbrand, this RPG has been inactive for over a year. Please check the dates on threads before you submit any kind of sign-up. Also remember to look for a rating in the future - if it doesn't have a rating, then it's not going to stay open. So, thread closed. I suggest reading the Square's sticky, as well as OB's rules for further information. I don't think any more warnings will be necessary after this. Thanks, Arcadia

The thing about playing mod is that when members do that I feel like it kind of takes authority away from the actual moderators. Who's really going to listen to us when everybody else is telling them what to do? It makes it harder for us to run the forums and keep them nice and organized when nobody takes us seriously. To me, that's always been the main reason why I discourage that kind of help - it's not that we don't appreciate it, you understand. It's just better to alert us with the exclamation point, rather than take the rug out from under us.
-
You know, I've not heard this argument in a long time and I really don't know much about it to be any sort of help at all. But in a slightly related note, I have a friend who owns this video that his friend edited and put together. It's supposedly actual NASA footage from the moon landing and the voice overs in it are apparently what was actually said during the event. Things like, "Jesus H. Christ in a chicken basket," and "Houston, we are walking, ******* walking, on the moon." I'm not sure how much I actually believe the validity of that video but it was pretty funny.. =p On a different note, I thought it took 25 years before the government released those kinds of files, and not 99... but it's entirely possible that I'm just talking crazy here.

I think I owe my very soul to Tony for introducing me to Muse because they've steadily become one of my favorite bands. They're such an excellent rock band - the kind that make you smile and want to sing along and/or jump around like a looney no matter where you are. I'm pretty sure he was also the one who suggested Queens of the Stone Age, as well as David Bowie and Modest Mouse, so I have to thank him for those as well. I think I'll just give him my first child. Or I'll turn straw into gold for him. Or something. I would say that both Shinmaru and anatema got me interested in Franz Ferdinand, since they were both really into them at about the same time. There's a whole bunch of other bands that I want to try out though (like Say Anything) and I know that credit is going to go somewhere but it's getting to the point where I just lose track of who said what.. ^_^;

It's sort of funny how most of us would invest some portion of that, because a million dollars isn't quite enough and we need to make more. :p ...With that said, I would also invest a decent amount of that million in real estate or something else equally profitable. I should also hope that with all that money, some portion of it goes to charity, but I'm not going to lie when I say that I'll focus on taking care of myself first. And that means paying off student loans and other college expenses. And then I would buy a car. Either a Mini Cooper, because they look like so much crazy fun or a 2005 Mustang, because they are so deliciously beautiful and I want one. Both would, of course, be candy apple red and very new and shiny. They would also have leather interiors, lovely stereo systems, and a big wonderful sun roof (if I can help it). I love convertibles as much as the next filthy rich girl, but the thought of getting into an accident in one while speeding down the highway somewhere is enough to turn off that idea. After I buy myself a car, I'd probably start buying crap for my family. Or I might just give them a whole bunch of money and let them buy the crap. Although I think I'd get my little brother a vespa. Because he needs more ways to fall and split his head open, don't you know. With whatever's left, I'd travel with friends (because as Sara mentioned, traveling alone is not where it's at). There would be a few of us and we'd spend a little bit of time everywhere, enjoying the sights, meeting beautiful foreign men, etc. etc. It would be deathly cool to buy a big boat and then sail around to places. I love boats and I love the water, and it would be like my own personal cruise with all my best friends... some good times right there. Now, Manic's challenge. As much as I'd like to think that I could spend a million dollars a day for thirty days, after a while I'd probably be burnt out. So I'll just take the first option and the thirty million, thank you. (I have no idea what movie that is.)

I'm going to be honest, I love reading all this crazy zodiac stuff, and when I go to Barnes and Noble or Borders or some place like that, I almost always look up some new kind of horoscope thing. As far as horoscopes go, I wouldn't say I believe them and I don't think they're accurate, but my actual zodiac sign Taurus usually is right on the money with me. I do think it's fun to explore, though, which is why I get horoscopes in e-mail and it's also why I'm interested in other things like runes and tarot cards and such. With that said, according to the Taurus profile, "You aren't necessarily like a Bull in a ring with a toreador. You could be more like peace-loving Ferdinand, seeking the gentle meadows filled with flowers, sunshine and natural beauty. It's only your stubbornness that can make you angry enough to charge at someone who is disturbing your peace." This is true enough for me and it's one of the reasons I don't get into a lot of debates here on the boards - I get so worked up and flustered reading different views, anything else I'm sure would send me over the edge. ^_^; "You Bulls are noted for your determination. You get to where you are going, not because you are exceptionally fast or clever, but because you will not be distracted from your goals." Eh... not so much. Heh, I am notorious for being easily distracted when it comes to school work and the like. In high school I would engage my dad in discussions about the constitution in order to escape from finishing my government homework. The flip side to that is I usually am very determined and ambitious about things other than homework (and apparently with certain stories >_>). Generally if I start something, then I'm going to finish it, and it's going to be done right the first time, no questions asked. "Your need for stability and simplicity can motivate you to create a life for yourself that is quite functional, though it might seem boring to someone else. But you aren't interested in taking unnecessary risks that can put your solid footing in jeopardy." This is pretty accurate - I'm not big on risks at all, and I prefer to have things stable and constant. I'm much more comfortable knowing exactly what's going on because I'm the one who controls everything. "Your motto might be "Take care of the senses and everything else will take care of itself." It may be that your attraction to material things is less about the objects themselves than it is about the pleasure they bring to your senses. Comfortable living and working space is important to you, along with nice linens, clothing, food and music." This is very true - I love things. I have lots of music, lots of DVDs, tons of clothes and shoes, toe socks, hats, posters, journals, pens, scrapbooks... lots of little things on my desk and around my room just to give it a more homey sort of vibe. It's not about just having them as much as the sense of home and security that they bring to me. Taurus is also known for being very practical and sensible, with her feet firmly on the ground. Her key planet Venus, which focuses on love, desire, and beauty. Because of this Taurus is supposed to be very sensually oriented and places her senses above thoughts and feelings.. which I guess in some aspects is also true about myself. Now, according to Sara's crazy Jelly Bean Personality thing... If Orange Juice is your favorite Jelly Bean, you will already be aware that people look up to you, regard you as something of a leader. While you can see future trends, you never forget important hometown values. But I also liked Tangerine (you like taking long walks, enjoy the sun, love the smell of fresh cut grass and are prone to daydream) and Kiwi (you are artistic, imaginative, and certainly very talented but also quite an unusual person). Now how do you like them apples? ^_~

There is something to be said for a decent charm. Because there are the kinds that are sold on the streets that work for a couple months before funking out on you, and then there are the kinds that really work. The kinds that are made with real time and effort, with blood, sweat, and tears, and whatever else is available. And as Iara fingered the blue stone around her neck, she was once again thankful for having a very talented and professional witch in the family. Despite what some might say, there is also something to be said for a decent witch. On that thought, she supposed the same could be said for any race on Gaia, but as she warily eyed the Incubus leering at her from the corner of the store, she was inclined to feel a little narrow-minded. ?Will that be all for you, dear?? The woman behind the counter was older, her hair graying around the edges. Iara was fairly certain that she was, coincidently, a witch. It would make sense ? many a witch owned or worked in magical shops all around Gaia. More often than not they ran their magical practices out of the store. Iara wasn?t sure if this woman was running any kind of business like that, but she did catch the woman glancing at her pendant with a slight smile. Allowing a small little smile in return, Iara gave the older woman a slight nod and a number of coins. ?Yes, thank you.? When the charm around her neck was being tested, Iara knew. The blue orb remained the same in appearance, but it grew decidedly warmer, depending on the strength of the attempt. The Incubus in the corner was testing it out more than anything else, resulting in the faint warmth at her throat. After so many different attempts by different Incubi (and even some succubi), Iara found the warmth to be familiar, if not always entirely welcome. The witch gave her the fruit she?d picked up and her change and said pleasantly, ?You have a lovely day, dearie.? And then she gave a little wink, and Iara smiled again. It might have been a personal record. Feeling slightly more amused, she left the store and headed for the Corona. Though the best memories of her family were in Memoria, Iara felt more at home in Lerion than any other place in Gaia, and it was because of spots like the Corona. All in all, Lerion was a beautiful kingdom. Made of white neferti, the stone was absolutely brilliant in the sunlight and it made the entire coast glow. And then at sunset, the changing pinks and oranges of the sky and the calming blues and greens of Nautica made for a beautiful backdrop against the white city. Thousands of artists had tried, but Iara had always thought it was the kind of view that couldn?t possibly be recaptured on a canvas. The colors they had just didn?t seem deep or vivid enough. The Corona, however, was proof that some of those artists did know how to use color. Above sea level, the Corona was a circular piazza where many of Lerion?s inhabitants came throughout the day to relax and enjoy the sights and smells of the city and the Great Sea. There were no merchants trying to sell things, no crowded markets ? just peace and quiet and the vastness of Nautica before it. The same nerferti stone that was used for all of Lerion?s buildings was dyed brilliant shades of yellow and orange and placed in the square in a giant circle. At the center of the entire square was a very simple, three-layer fountain. When the fountain was first erected, Iara remembered that there was much discussion about what it should be. In the end, to stop the petty arguments over race, the kingdom?s Queen decided on the current model. Now, the Corona was almost symbol of Lerion itself ? calm, simple, but colorful. Iara took a bite out of the apple she bought and leaned against the wall overlooking the Great Sea. The weather in Lerion had been absolutely gorgeous lately. The days were warm but the nights were cool and Nautica always supplied the shore side kingdom with a gentle breeze. Work had also been promising as of late. She had an appointment a little later, with another possible employer, and her reputation within the kingdom was always growing in favor. There was no reason for her to feel lost or down or anything other than content. However, Iara was never one to do exactly as she was told. And if there was no reason to feel blue, then leave it to her to feel exactly that. It was something that she was slightly amused by, but on another level she was aware that it wasn?t entirely normal. And though she couldn?t see it causing any problems now, there was no telling what sort of things the future had in store for her. Iara seemed to shrug halfheartedly at that thought, and then reached up to fix the strap of her dress when it slid off her shoulder with the movement. A second later, she felt somebody else?s hand brush it down again and stepped forward, turning halfway to face whoever wanted to lose their hand so badly. A rather tall Draconian stood behind her, and upon seeing her cool, narrowed eyes held his hands up in defense. After a minute of silence on both parts, Iara, increasingly ill tempered, asked sharply, ?Are you going to explain to me what you?re doing or can I move forward with my plans to burn you alive?? The Draconian did not let his hands drop, though he did look considerably more amused than she. ?They did warn me that you were a little feisty.? ?I plan to start with your wings,? She added. His hands dropped and so did his smile. ?There?s a mark on your shoulder. It?s small, but it?s there. I had thought it was so yesterday, but I thought I should learn something about you before broaching this subject. So I made a small visit to your aunt.? Iara cocked an eyebrow at him, ready to throw her apple if need be. She imagined that it was probably folly to try and outrun a Draconian, but all she needed was enough of a head start so that she could toast the guy from a safe distance. Which she was fully prepared to do if he didn?t explain himself further, as she proceeded to tell him in language that was not quite as pretty. He eyed the apple before replying evenly, ?As one of the Innocence, proven by the mark on your shoulder, your presence is immediately requested in Memoria.? His voice was low enough so that those nearby didn?t hear. Iara was grateful for this because she didn?t think it was great for her reputation to be stalked by a crazy person and the less people who knew about it, the better. He seemed to sense her disbelief, however, and before she could do something drastic he continued in slightly more placating tone, ?Trust me, Iara, this is not insanity. I?m sure you?ve felt it over the last month? the darkness. It is returning.? She thought about this for a second, crossing her arms after taking another small bite from her apple. She?d heard tales of the Nexus all her life, like the rest of the children of Gaia, but to her that?s all they were - tales. An unfathomable part of history that might have given her nightmares as a small girl in Memoria, but now held no thought to her at all. She couldn?t even remember who the famous three Mages were supposed to be. And yet... something about that wasn't so off. It would explain her recent moodiness. And as much as it irked her, Iara knew that maybe it was something she should look into. ?What?s in Memoria?? She finally asked after a second. Besides the memories of my broken family, the thought came suddenly and made her frown. If the Draconian noticed the look ? which she was sure he did ? he said nothing. Probably assumed it went with the question, which she thought was a wholly valid one. ?Answers,? he told her, and refolded his richly dyed wings. By their color and from his garb, Iara assumed that the Draconian must have held a position of importance, like some kind of Harold or something. ?There is only so much I can tell you. But you have a royal summons to Memoria, during which all of this will become clear.? ?I?m just supposed to drop everything I?m doing?? She wasn?t going to hide her anger and indignation. She would, in fact, hold to them for long after this conversation, as a sort of safety blanket; her one familiar thing in a world that was changing so abruptly. It only took a second for him to think about his answer. ??Yes.?

I don't watch a whole lot of music videos but there are a couple that stand out to me. I definitely agree with Thriller - I've had so much fun in theatre trying to remake that dance it's ridiculous, lol. Next to that, I've always loved Fatboy Slim's Weapon of Choice video. Yes, this is the one where Christopher Walken dances through the entire thing in some crazy hotel lobby. It's so beautiful, and every time I think about it I want to get up and start dancing down hallways and on furniture.

In the future, Takuya, I'd appreciate it if you alerted us moderators of the offending post by pressing the exclamation point at the top right instead of just posting spam. Also, Feyrbrand, please make sure that the RPGs you're interested are current and active. It's best to keep to the first couple pages of the Inn for that. This thread is closed.

I'm still alive, don't worry darlings. Like vicky, I too have been sick for the past week. In fact, I'm still sick, and I'm sick of being sick, but I do think this horrible cold is finally starting to go away. So yay for that, I guess. Ben - sorry about the PM. I'll still reply if you'd like me to but as Patronus has already mentioned, I don't think I can give you any more information that you don't already know. Still, we can talk about it if you want. I know that I'm almost done with my post, and hopefully the rest of you are also wrapping things up. Again, if any of you have any questions, just ask - we'll work out whatever we have to. It'll be fun. I did want to mention that I really liked the addition of the pixies, James. Awesome awesome. I greatly encourage all of you to make Gaia your own creation by adding various aspects like that. If it's totally crazy then we'll let you know, but otherwise, have a field day. Seriously.

Feyrbrand, please take a look at the Square's sticky before you post again in the Arena. There's a certain way things are run here and the best way to understand them is to read the rules. For instance, you must recruit players for your RPG in the Inn before you bring it into the Square. Also, all RPGs must have a proper rating or else they will be closed. If you have any questions about any of our rules, check out the Suggestions and Feedback forum or PM an Arena moderator for help. Welcome to the boards. ^_^ - Arcadia

sky, please read through the Square's sticky before you post any more in the Arena. There must be a proper rating in the title of your thread in order for it to remain open. If you would like (and this is also in the sticky), you can repost this RPG after you've read the rules and give it another go, as long as you follow the guidelines and inlude an appropriate rating. If you have any questions, either contact a moderator through PM or see the Suggestions and Feedback forum. ^_^ - Arcadia

Sign-ups are now closed. First and foremost, we'd like to thank all of you who took the time to sign up for our little adventure here. All of you put a lot of effort into your characters and it shows. It made choosing who got in really, really difficult, so you should all be proud of that. On that note, here is the list of who will be participating in Paranoia: Vralla Norhangare - Kitty Darius Aphosis Khafra - vicky Asher Fenix Ulfcur - doukeshi03 Aetheran Mandrashee - James Remerant Emrael - Bio Cloud Nymphonus - Reise Macros Drairthrak - Ben Onyx - StrikeGundam Alkai Mezcheth - Methuselah Sabylleria - Pandemonium If you didn't make it in and you have questions as to why or would like advice for future sign-ups, we'd be more than happy to discuss the matter with you. The OtakuBoards Nifty Fifty: Nominations (2004)
Arcadia replied to Shy's topic in General Discussion
What was it? theOtaku Why was it nifty? For me, theOtaku.com has always been an addition to the boards instead of the boards being an addition to theOtaku. But this year, especially in the last few months, that's really changed. With the launch of theOtaku Version ReDefined, the whole site had a much needed facelift, and the staff there did an absolutely wonderful job with all of it. The quizzes are fast and fun, the art community there is huge, and there's reviews on anime shows that I've never even heard of, much less seen. My personal favorite part of the site however is definitely the Articles section - they're just so much fun to read. ^_^;; The addition of myOtaku was also huge and despite some of the setbacks with the popularity ranking system, it's attracted enormous amounts of people and is super awesome. Adam and all of the staff there have spent a ton of time and energy over there and they definitely deserve all the recognition they can get. What was it? Lore Why was it nifty? Sara makes everything better on the boards. Her posts in the Arena are always amazingly written and well thought out, even if they're only 55 words long (especially The Twelfth Day of Christmas ^_~). In the Lounge, she's consistantly adding fun and thoughtful posts to threads and helping to boost the quality in there. Plus, she always has the best avatars and signatures - the hug counter, the abominable snowman... come on, that's just cool. Last but certainly not least... her trademark way of ending a post. She's just keeping it real. ^_~ What was it? The Arena! Why was it nifty? The Arena has changed a lot over the past year and its latest additions have only made it even cooler. The Arena Underground has been revolutionary - it's helped RPGs stay on their feet and it's allowed members to discuss different ideas and what works and what doesn't. Bio has done an excellent job in keeping it clean and organized. OB Anthology has also really come into its own this year. There have been a ton of awesome stories and ideas presented in there and the writing has only gotten better and better. Enter the Net, Otaku Hollow, n00b Hunter, and all the other OB-based stories have all been very successful and entertaining. Threads like Reanimation and 55 Fiction have done a lot to challenge members to use their imaginations and step outside of the box to create solid stories (even if they are only 55 words ^_~). RPGs have come so incredibly far. I'm continually impressed with the work people have been putting into their threads. Creativity has been huge and people seem more and more willing to take chances with their RPGs and boldly go where no other RPG has gone before. The addition of the chapter system has organized the stories like nothing else, but when you get right down to it, the RPGs are nothing without the writers. And in the Square, that's what you get - a bunch of awesome writers. I'm so proud... *tear* What was it? Shy Why was it nifty? Shy is the man. He puts a ton of time and effort into everything he's a part of, even though I know that he leads a very, very busy life outside of the boards. His RPGs are always very creative, original, and fabulous - hero has been such a blast to participate in and Vignette is an outstanding read. He himself is a very talented writer and while he was still a moderator he implemented (or at least started to) a lot of things in the Arena that are now essential (thread ratings, any one?). And now he's totally going to revamp the events forum with all his nifty ideas and it's going to be cooler than ever. What was it? Team Hanzo (minus me) Why was it nifty? The Arena has under gone a lot of changes in the past few months and as crazy as it has sometimes gotten to be in there, Hanzo has still managed to keep it together beautifully. They've put in a ton of hard work (especially with the thread ratings) and they make all of us look very good. Asphy always manages to keep Anthology neat and orderly and Bio has proven himself amazingly well in the Underground, and they both deserve recognition for their efforts. You guys rock. ^_~ What was it? The Avatar Thread Thing in the Art Studio Why was it nifty? It gave OB's members a chance to really feel like they were giving back to the site by creating lots and lots of avatars to add to the growing collection. Even though I didn't make any, it's cool to look through those and see all the awesome stuff people have made - a lot of them are just really fantastic and you can tell that a lot of work was put into those babies. And I imagine it's a pretty cool feeling so see somebody sporting the avatar that you made. I'll be editing in more as this goes along. -
Is this RP going to get started at all? Just curious and that ^_~[/SIZE']
Patience, my darling. ^_~ Ladies and Gentlemen, it's about time to begin wrapping things up. If you have not yet finished your sign-ups or there's a few things you'd still like to tweak, then now is the time to do it. You have until Wednesday, Jan. 12, and then Patronus and I will close the sign-ups and begin the horrendous job of deciding who to accept. o_O; Remember, if you have any questions or anything, contact me or Patronus through PM or on AIM and we'll figure things out. ^_^

Please read through the Square's sticky and choose one that you think is most appropriate to Candyland. After that, if you'd like to try this again, you can - just make sure you follow the guidelines set out in the sticky. If you have any questions, just PM me and I'll do what I can to help you out. ^_^
