1. A reminder to everyone again. Everyone please explain why the quote is important to you. Just posting random quotes is not acceptable. If this thread continues to be a copy/paste festival of quotes I will have to close this thread. Be sure when quoting your favorite sayings you explain why it is meaningful or important to you. If you are one of those who have just quoted without posting your reasons of why it is meaningful to you, please use the edit button on your post to add the missing details. Thanks! -Panda
2. Welcome to theOtakuBoards x mouse x. Please be aware that we have a rules page that all members are required to read before posting. The Rules and FAQ can also be found on the left navigation menu. We encourage people to introduce themselves within their posts as they enter discussions throughout the boards. We would rather that, than having a ton of introduction threads. Also, we have pretty high standards when it comes to the quality of posts (ie: making them well thought out with care given to grammar). When you re-read the rules page it will make more sense to you. If you have any questions please feel free to PM myself or any of the other moderators. Again, I welcome you to the boards and I hope to see you posting around the site. Have fun! ~Panda
3. With the 20 Anniversary of Robotech happening this year I was wondering when the Robotech fans were going to come out of the woodwork! Well, I do recognize a few on your list, definitely old school anime. The thing I notice is how they are all related to Robotech. The original Macross TV series is what was used by Harmony Gold to create the "Macross Saga", or first chapter, of Robotech. Southern Cross was converted into the second chapter which is "The Masters Saga". The third chapter called "The New Generation" being constructed with animation from Mospeada. If I am not mistaken, Megazone 23 and Orguss were used to make the ill-fated Robotech: The Movie. I think Macross is definitely an anime all mecha fans must see. The Macross mecha design by Shoji Kawamori (who also worked on Escaflowne) and multi-generational storyline is just amazing. Thinking about the time it was released there is absolutely no way it would have aired on US television. Much too many taboo subject for a "cartoon". Characters dying, war, violence, alien love affairs, nudity...baby tossing! These would have been a real shocker to US audiences over 20 years ago! Mospeada wouldn't have a chance of airing on broadcast TV in the states either. Similar reasons as that of Macross but add in cross-dressing rock star in place of baby tossing. Character design for Mospeada was done by Yoshitaka Amano who is probably most well know by the younger generations as being the designer for "Final Fantasy" and "Vampire Hunter D". The MOSPEADA, or Mobile Operation Soldier Protection Emergency Aviation Dive Armor, has to be the highlight of the series for me. There is something really cool about a motorcycle that could transform on the fly around you into a highly armed personal mecha! I am going to have to give my anime collection a run through and see what interesting animes that aren't well know are in there that we could discuss in this thread. Thanks for the walk down memory lane!
4. Congrats and best wishes to all of you who have been or strive to be published! My writing "career" has been very limited. My first articles were printed in a veterinary medicine newsletter. It was a quarterly publication written for pet owners. I did this for 5 years and had lots of positive responses from pet owners who enjoyed my articles. I think people enjoyed my writing since the subject matter is one that I love- veterinary medicine. Concerning online publications I have done quite a bit of writing for theOtaku including work in the anime hubs, reviews and articles. A few of my interviews posted on theOtaku include an employee of Blizzard Entertainment, a professional comic book artist, the Art Director for Magic: The Gathering and the creator of a real-life mecha. They have all been great fun putting together. I have many more plans for interviews for theOtaku dealing with the anime and gaming industry. I have always felt that if you write about what you know and love that will show through in your work. No matter what, have fun with your writing.
5. This was a nice change from all the problem relationship threads we normally see. I have been in love and married to my soul mate, John, since 1995. We will be celebrating our 10 wedding anniversary this year in November. It doesn't feel like 10 years, it feels like we are still newlyweds. Being married to my best friend is the best decision I made in my life. We met while he was attending college in my hometown. He was enrolled in the flight training program and I was still in high school. We were first friends and didn't start to date until a couple of years later. Ups and downs we have gone through it all together. :D
6. I am in the same camp as Sara and Manic. Genies are tricky. Like that scene in one of the Wishmaster movies when the mafia guy wished for "the head of his rival". He ended up looking like that of his rival! Not good when you look like the enemy! As for the Aladin thing. The Genie did say "X-nay on wishing for more wishes." So Aladin was told this before he got his wishes. Now, knowing that any wish I may have will have some sort of loophole that the Genie may exploit against me I would have to wish very carefully. Unfortunately there are always loopholes. I will still have a go at it. Wish the first: I would wish for happiness for my loved ones. The plus I can see with this is whatever makes my loved ones happy is what they will have. Whether it be money, fame or good health. It's like having a bunch of wishes without wishing for more wishes! The loophole I see is if the Genie makes them all insane. They may go on killing sprees and do all sorts of evil...but are happy! You see what I mean by loopholes. Grrr. Wish the second: Happiness for myself. If I am happy I guess I won't care what is happening since I will be in my own little happy world. Hey, it's better than being all stressed out about the bad things the Genie may do to you! Wish the third: Wish for the Genie's freedom. I got that from Aladin. Many times when you hear stories about Genies they save the last wish to do something bad too you. Wishing for their freedom takes that away. Plus, I am already happy, why would I need another wishes? There ya go. My try at three wishes. :D
7. I absolutely love my family. They are a kick in the pants. The story I will share with everyone is about my dad. My dad has a tendency to speak without thinking about the consequences. Watching The Simpsons only makes me realize that my father IS Homer Simpson! One night when my family (mom, dad, my brother, my husband and myself) got together for dinner. Some how the conversation turned to who was good looking. Well, my father, doing his usual "speaking without thinking" stated: "Between your mom and her sister, her sister is better looking."! We all look at my dad who didn't even realize that what he just said has just put him in the dog house. I tried to help dad out by saying "But we all know that mom is the most beautiful woman in the world." hoping that dad would get the hint. Nope. He didn't. He said: "But it's the truth."! Needless to say my brother and husband just looked on in horror as my mom gave my dad a look of death. Now, that doesn't seem too bad, but here is the clincher... My mom and her sister are identical twins!! How can one identical twin be better looking than the other? Even if one could be better looking wouldn't you say that the one you have been married too for decades would be the "better looking" one?! I guess all I can say about that is- D'oh!!
8. You can use jpg images as well as gif. You need to take your background image and upload it to an image host service, such as Photobucket.com. Then use the URL they give you for the image and place it in the option for the background image for myO. Be sure to save the changes by clicking on the update button at the bottom of the page. Hope that helps.
9. I have only one nickname, Panda. John, now my husband, gave me this nickname many years ago when I was 16 years old. It all started with a conversation we were having about cartoons and what kind of character we would be. He told me if I were a cartoon character I would be a panda bear. Ever since then he has called me his Panda. I have always loved pandas so the nickname fits well for me. :D

A reminder to everyone to please put some effort into your responses (spelling and grammar) or this thread will be closed if it becomes filled with spammy posts. Thanks! ~Panda
11. Welcome to the OtakuBoards keitaro. Using the message boards for the sole purpose of advertising your website is against the rules of the site. Because of that I am going to have to lock this thread. I suggest you re-read the rules which are located to the left in the navigation bar. -Panda
12. My first language was Japanese. At home that is all my parents, and grandparents, spoke. My dad has many recordings of my brother and I playing and telling stories that were all in Japanese. That all changed when my brother started school. He didn't speak english so he was put into "English as a second language" class with all the hispanic kids who didn't speak english. After that my parents made us speak english at home so we would do better in school. I still understand Japanese but when it comes to speaking my language skills are very much lacking. My parents will speak to me in Japanese and I end up answering them in english! Oh well. I really wish I would have kept up with my Japanese language skills but at the time my parents wanted us to do well in school. Basically I can translate only one way with ease- Japanese to english. If only I could master the other way I would be applying for high paying job translating for big business!
13. I was drawn into the OtakuBoards via theOtaku. I was wandering around Goggle looking for something to kill time, like an anime quiz. I soon started to wander around the network and came across the message boards. The very first thing I noticed was the heavy moderation of the boards. Most of message boards that I had signed up for in the past had very spammy threads of very little quality. Here on the OtakuBoards there were actual discussions going on! Free time on the internet brought me here, the quality of threads and interesting people keep me here.
14. It has been quite a long while since an anime made me cry. Many have made me feel sad or upset, but for crying the only one in recent history to do that is Grave of the Fireflies. Since it is based on author Akiyuki Nosaka's true life story it really upset me. In 1945 Nosaka's
mother was killed during a bombing of their hometown Kobe. Because their father was away fighting the war he had to take care of his little sister the best he could. Eventually she died of malnutrion and Nosaka wrote "Grave of the Fireflies" as atonement for his sister's death.
As you watch Grave of the Fireflies it is almost impossible to separate your feelings from the main characters Seita and his little sister Setsuko. Knowing that the story is based on true life events tears your heart up. I just wanted to take both those kids out of that situation and take care of them. Even thinking about that story now makes me sad. There are so many moments in the story that bring tears to my eyes, but nothing like the moment when
Seita brings the watermelon to Setsuko who is laying in bed dying of malnutrion. She is sucking on marbles pretending they are candy. She takes just a tiny bit of the melon before she passes away. Seita tried so hard to care for her but couldn't.
It broke my heart to watch those children go through that difficult time. My hubby watched the movie once and said he can't watch it again since it was too upsetting. Great movie but very, very powerful.
15.
no the problem is over dont post hear any more no more just stop
Loki, your response is not adding to the discussion at hand. Telling people to stop responding to a thread you did not start is not helpful to the author who is asking for advice. In addition please work on your grammar when responding to a thread. Because of it's incoherent nature I am deleting your thread. ~Panda
16.
I wanna be dead.

Oh, boo hoo. when i'm growed up, i want to be extraordinary...
Wristcutter and elfpirate the both of you need to improve the quality of your posts. Both your responses to this thread are considered spam and will both be deleted. Failure to improve your post quality may result in the banning of your accounts. ~Panda
17. Unlike many of you who have no desire to meet anyone online, I love meeting friends I have made online. I love being able to put screen names and faces together. I understand that there are many, MANY crazy and sick people trolling online so safety is the first priority. I never meet anyone for the first time by myself. I know much of my willingness to meet people I have befriended online comes from my personality type. I enjoy meeting new people. I have been blessed by always having great experiences when meeting online friends. I have gone to Texas, Florida, Ohio, Oregon, California and all over Washington to meet friends I have made online. As for OB members I have had the honor of meeting up with Mamma Vash. I had the chance to hang out with her at Anime Expo last summer. We had a great time and plan on meeting up again this year. I am always up to meeting people at anime cons. Because of my willingness to meet new people I have made many friends all around the world. If you want to meet me and we are going to be in the same event like an anime convention, drop me a note!
18. Reminder: Don't forget to tell why the quotes mean something to you. We don't want this thread to turn into a copy/paste session of random quotes. Thanks! Now getting back to the topic at hand of my favorite quotes and why they mean something to me, here is my short list: "If a man does not make new acquaintances as he advances through life, he will soon find himself left alone." -Samuel Johnson I love this quote, I have it on my welcome page of my personal website. I totally agree with that statement. If you go through life without meeting new people you eventually will find yourself all alone. I love meeting new people and expanding my pool of friends. Friends come and go, if you only stick with one group of friends, they move away or join a new group, you will be by yourself. Now that is a very sad thought. "If you know, to recognize that you know, if you don't know, to realize that you don't know: That is knowledge."-Confucius All I know is that I do not know is a very wise stance to take. Acknowledging that you don't understand everything means that you are still open to learning more. Keeping your mind open means you will learn more everyday. "This above all: To thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man." William Shakespeare If you are honest to yourself you can be honest to everyone. If you can lie to yourself, you probably won't have a second though about lying to someone else. Let's say you are having problems with drugs or alcohol. If you tell yourself there is no problem it would be easy to tell anyone around you that there is no problem. Until you can be true to yourself you cannot be true to others. "Don't let too much time go by before telling him how you feel." Claudia Grant Robotech: Macross Saga I feel that this is good advice in any type of relationship. Regret is a terrible thing to live with. It is best to be honest about your feelings than to wonder for the rest of your life "what if". One example from my life is the last time I saw my friend Bryan. He lived in a town a few hours away from me. I gave him a big hug and told him that I loved him and to take care. He died in a car accident a few months later. I am very happy that the last memory I have of him is of him smiling and knowing that he was loved. If I hadn't told him I think I would regret not saying anything. "Maybe the hokey pokey really is what it's all about."- unknown I saw this on a sign once and it made me chuckle. It made me think that maybe we all take life a bit too seriously and need to lighten up. What happens if life really is all about something as silly as the hokey pokey? Wouldn't all your stresses seem crazy?! It just reminds me that I need to relax and get a grip. "Any man who wishes to master the technique must bow to the Panda!" Sasshi's grandpa in Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi I have to admit that I have a very soft spot for ANY quote dealing with pandas. I think taking the quote out of context and putting in terms of me makes them really funny. For example, the quote above, to master the technique you must bow to me! That just tickles my funny bone. Whether the quote is from Excel Saga or South Park, any quote dealing with pandas I love.
19. I will edit in the remaining nominations when I make my final decisions. I am very flattered that my name appeared a couple of times on this nifty list. Just being mentioned is an honor. :) What is it? OB Moderators Why was it nifty? The moderators work very hard everyday keeping the forums free of spam. Without them the site would be overrun by terrible spelling, grammar and L33t. All the moderators are happy to help fellow members when called upon. They deserve a nifty thank you from all the members of the boards since it wouldn't be the amazing place it is today. What is it? OB Staff Why was it nifty? Without them we wouldn't be here trying to decide what is/isn't nifty. Putting together a great site with strictly enforced rules is a breath of fresh air in an internet filled with spammy message boards. The hundreds of hours of maintenance by the staff assures the members that the network will run smoothly and always be on the cutting edge of design and quality. What is it? OB Members Why was it nifty? With a world wide membership of so many different ages, cultures and creeds we always have interesting discussions on the boards. Without the dedication of all the members the boards would be a very boring place and eventually would die out. The OB truly is a melting pot of many different opinions and interesting discussions. What is it? The Otaku Lounge Why was it nifty? Filled with odds and ends of topics there is always something interesting going on in there everyday. Constantly changing you never know what topic will pop up. Everything from religion, politics and ethics to the lighthearted like wishes, embarrassing moments and photo captions. It may have it's little quarks, but that is what makes it so entertaining and interesting. What is it? Art by Request Forum Why was it nifty? It brings people who want custom banners and avatars but can't make them together with people who enjoy making custom banners and avatars. It's a win/win situation for everyone involved! What is it? Adam [Founder] Why was it nifty? Adam is the reason we are all here. He is the one that put together this network and gathered a talented group of staff members to work on the site. Without him none of this would be possible. Adam really does care about this network and wants to see it prosper, because of that we all benefit.
20. You can get pictures from several different sorces. You can scan some pictures, get some screen captures or find them online via a search engine like Google. Be sure your image for the avatar is within the size requirements of the site. If you need an image host for the avatar using something like Photobucket.com is a nice free image host. Make sure the image you are using also ends with jpg or gif. Don't hotlink to someone else's URL since that can cause some problems with your image as well. Make sure you are hosting it on your own image host site. Hope that helps!

Its A Bet!

I really don't think that this message required the creation of a new thread. You could have just as easily put this note in your signature as well. I feel this thread is not going to generate into the quality discussion we expect here on the OtakuBoards. Due to that, I am going to close this thread. ~Panda
22.
But how big can it be?
The maximum size of your custom image is 150 by 80 pixels or 58.6 KB (whichever is smaller). If you need someone to make you a custom avatar you can always request one in the Art By Request forum.
23.
How do you get a little picture next to the thing that you write instead of the ones that you can pic?
Can you be a little more specific? Are you referring ot the avatar at the top of your posts? If that is what you are asking about then all you have to do is: -click on the "Edit Profile" link in the menu bar to the left. -select the "Use Custom Avatar" option. -upload avatar or type in the URL for the avatar. -click the "save changes" option at the bottom. This will change your avatar to the custom avatar you have selected. Hope this answers your question.
24.
o and btw i am a guy, but i just needed 2 speak up 4 1nce
Rabjonic, double posts are not allowed on the OtakuBoards. If you need to post directly after your own post, please use the "edit" button and add to your existing post. Because of that your double post will be deleted. Make sure your posts are well thought out with care given to grammar and spelling. As they are now they are very difficult to read. Failure to follow the rules of the board may result in closing of your account. If you have any questions please feel free to PM myself or any of the other moderators. ~Panda
