1. You know, this could be nothing but I just thought of something. The super colider is supposed to reach full power sometime in early 2009. I for one don't believe in coincidences. Maybe America's being tricked by European scientists who have ops in the government. Maybe the subliminal messiging will say things like "do not attempt to run if the giant bugs from another dimension try and eat you. Your purpose is to be food for them, stay and be eaten" I for one won't be tricked. TO THE UNDERGROUND!!!!!
2. I doubt we'll ever have a chance to prove/disprove the topic. Being a scientific christian (yes we do exist) I do think life on other planets exists. I can't imagine a god creating everything, and taking the time to ever expand the universe for no reason more than to give us a playground over the next few millenia. So I'm convinced there is life, I do think they are probably so far away so we won't discover them for many many many many years. And when we do they'll probably look/talk/act similar to us.
3. I've done a LOT of jobs that pay better money than what I do now that I've quit at the drop of a hat for numerous reasons. Now in hindsight I wish I would've stuck with a couple of them seeing as my current job seemed like something I'd love, but turned mundane after a few weeks. So I think you have to be careful just choosing to do something you "love". Because we are all people and we do love new things, new clothes, new toys, new jobs, etc, but any "dream" job carries its set of drawbacks. I have 4 years and enough credit hours to almost have my bachelors....the problem is I have core classes for 5 different majors. I've bounced between Criminal Justice, Accounting, Psychology, Electrical Engineering, and Radiology. I gave up school last year to "find myself", really that was just a way to make me feel better about quitting school to put my fiancee through nursing school. Point being (since I'm rambling) is that every single one of my "majors" have seemed like something I was perfect for and I absolutelly had to do. Then after research and taking classes I realized there was something wrong and it wasn't what it seemed. I've finally decided to go back and finish the Electrical Engineering degree, because it pays better with a Bachelor's than most of the others (excluding Accounting but it doesn't count because I'd rather swallow a bullet than go through the daunting program at my school).
4. The only thing I know about Dead Space is what Game Informer put out last month. It seems to be a pretty decent game, the last horror genre game that I bought based on their preview was Condemed(sp) not the second one but the first. They say this game has more scare value than that so I'm pretty juiced. I've never really gotten into the Fallout series. I've been more into the first person shooters on XBOX live (which it's time for my fiancee to go back to school so I'll be hitting heavily in a week or so). All in all, I'll probably pick up Dead Space myself and that'll be it, I'm really holding out for November. (Won't ruin your next thread by talking about why)
5. Well as someone who works in the telecommunications field I can tell you digital is not all it's cracked up to be (not as much as the wavelength transmission, more so the cableing system.) Digital cable is ran primarily through coaxial cables (the little cables that come out of your walls and go to your TV.) Cable companies are using miles and miles of the stuff "temporarily". Meaning they're going to use it until it's "all used up". What happens is coaxil cable gets a crack in it and gets wet EASILY, when this happens whose regions will lose cable. This will happen at least once to everyone in the next 5 years for a duration of probably....2 weeks or so. During that time they will switch everything to Fiber Optics, then it'll be better than analog. As far as the "forcing" thing goes, really it's like a REAL shotgun wedding. Farmer: No you don't have to marry my daughter, but it's either my daughter or the alternative. (He says as he loads up his shotgun)
6.
There are a lot, I'm sure...but the one that comes to mind at the moment is The Incredible Hulk. I'm not talking about any cartoon things, I'm talking about that crappy one that came out a few summers ago. It was the first and only movie that I had ever fallen asleep watching in the theater. I fell asleep about an hour into the movie.
No offense chibi, but wouldn't you have been about 7 or 8 when that movie came out? If you'd ever seen any of the incredible hulk series, the movie would have fallen into something you would have expected. As far as the virus from I am Legend being totally wrong, the whole point of the movie was it was something unexpected. So unless you can tell me they've somehow recreated the movie and have been injecting lab rats and humans with an untested compound in an attempt to cure cancer recentally to disprove it you can't dispute it. I wanted to add two to my original list, both the Boogeyman's (I and II). These could've been great movies, but instead they choose to take great possibilities and snuff them in the blink of an eye.
7. I'm not a poetry expert in any way shape or form, the only thing I can ever say I've written that would even be close would be my signature (so you can obviously see my skill level :animeshy: ) But I do know what I like, and each one of your poems had something that stuck out to me. My father was an abusive alcoholic so The Blurprint hit home there. The boyish side of me loved A Life Lived Between Seconds More than Time really rung out and reminded me of the time my fiancee and I spent together (about 4 months) before I left for Basic Training. The sorrow I felt, but the joy of spending every moment together, I had her read that one in particular, I hope you don't mind but she printed it and it's on our fridge. Your untitled piece sort've struck a negative tone with me. I'm not sure if it has something to do with my military service making me a little more of a conformist. I liked the fact it spoke individuality, but I have my own opinions on that. So that was my least favorite, but it was well written. I'm not sure if these are your only works to date, but I hope you'l add some more to this thread as they come.
8. Hmm, for such a simple question it really makes you think about your life. Well for starters, though I haven't spoken with my father in months due to a heated argument, I love both of my parents. (My mother would remind you of a younger version of the mom from Everybody Loves Raymond) So she makes it tough as well. I have two sisters who I love dearly, though my older one is over a decade older than me and we don't talk save to discuss my niece and nephew's health/school. I have a group of friends who I can say I love And lastly (though not leastly) my fiancee Ronda who I love with all my heart.
9. Though I haven't seen it, you have to at least give those movies some credit. Now some movies you actually wonder why the hell they let them ever come out. Off the top of my head "Zombie Strippers" Haven't seen it, but i can imagine just from the trailer. I watched...well tried to watch Sweeny Todd the other day, now it could've been awesome if they would've had more than 2 people who could sing. That was probably my vote for worst movie ever (I'll watch zombie strippers before I finish sweeny Todd)
10. This looks pretty sweet Lunar Name: John Carpenter (Reincarnation of Ryo) Age: 17 Side: Good Guy Gender: Male Personality: A wannabe hero. He's always waited for his chance to save someone and becomes overly entusiastic when the opportunity presents his self.optimistic and can see a silver lining in anything. Appearance: American,Short Blonde hair, Blue eyes, 6'3, and muscular Power/Weapon: John weilds a bow staff with an attachment he keeps strped to his back to turn it into a halberd. He has the power to manipulate water, even the water vapor in the air. He keeps a bottle of water on him at all times, just in case. Interests: Training, training, saving the world, and picking on Victoria/capia of course
11. Well mine's pretty straight forward. The main character from TONS of R.A. Salvatore's books....at the time I was split between something from DBZ and the one I'm currently using. It came down to whether or not I could use the apostrophe in Do'urden or not, and since OB is one of the few sites that let you use special characters.. cha ching.
12. As the group made it's third trip around Shal looking for the old wizard, Abel noticed a small gathering of villagers gasping and screaming. Signaling the others he motioned them to follow him to the gathering. Since the exited the waterways, they'd been wary of anyone and anything that could be associated with the enemy. As they grew close to the crowd, Abel realized quickly where the screams were coming from. Up on a platform was a giant of a man, as big as any barbarian he'd ever seen, but it was all wrong the man was clad in the armor of Camelot. "It looks like Grum has officially taken over control." Abel spoke quietly to Scar. "Listen up Scum!" The voice of the big man boomed over the crowd, "King Grum has called for martial law in this town. From now on me and my men are in charge, this will continue until the 5 rebels are captured and turned over to us." "I think it would be best for us to get out of here." Abel and the group turned and started off until they heard what the man said next. "Just so you know we aren't messing around, we're going to give you a little demenstration." Abel couldn't fight the urge to turn around, after he did though he wished he hadn't. A young child, who couldn't have been more than 10, was being forced to his knees on an executioner's block. Abel watched in horror as the man who'd been talking, took the executioner's axe and raised it above his head. Oh god I have to do something. Suddenly, Abel was looking the man dead in the eye. Since he'd been given his power to teleport, Abel had been having trouble controling it. It would happen at odd times, he'd suddenly be outside the waterways, then he'd be right back in. He'd thought he finally got the hang of it, but apparently he was wrong. The big man looked just as shocked as Abel was, that quickly turned to anger though. "Who the hell are you?" Abel cringed, the mans breath smelled like straight horse manure. "I'm just a big fan. Wanted to see the execution in person, you know see how big tough barbarians use children as examples. Why don't you use me as one" The big man smiled, "Have it your way runt. Free the small boy, and put this slightly bigger boy in his place." "Yes, Sir Romph." The guards, who were all obviously barbarians as well, quickly grabed Abel and pushed his head down on the chopping block. Abel had a plan from the start, but as he watched the axe begin to rise he started to wish he hadn't. Please work, please work, please work, He grew more and more afraid as he could hear the wooshing of the axe. He heard the sickening thud of the axe striking the block behind him as he reappeared in front of Sven who already had his axes drawn. The two guards who were holding him looked up, just as the big man brought both weapons forward, slaming into their faces, dropping them dead as could be. "It's them, GET THEM!" before he even finished saying this, the group was surrounded. It was time for their first battle together......
13. I'm liking the revamp rider. Name: Private Greg Johnson Age: 23 Gender: Male Organization Information: "Nameless Ones "(A small rebel unit based within the earth itself) Technology Basis: God Gundam Character Bio: At a young age, Greg watched his father killed by an extermination squad sent by the Judges. Since then Greg has been watching and waiting to get his chance. Finally one day Greg was out trailing a group of the judges exterminators piloting Mobile Suits. The led him straight to a rebel hide out where a battle broke out. Greg had never seen a Mobile Suit battle in person, and sufficite to say he was amazed. That amazement quickly turned to horror as one by one the rebels were eliminated. Greg noticed one unmaned Mobile Suit that looked similar to the ones piloted by the rebels, thinking this his chance to aid the rebels he got into the cockpit and began pushing every button he could. Suddenly his seat tipped back, throwing Greg through a small door in the cockpit. He got to his feet and couldn't believe what he saw; He could see the battle...through the gundam's eyes. Everything was around him, he looked to his hands and saw a blue outline of the gundam's hands. His legs his face, everything looked like the mobile suit. He could see the weapons attached to his body through this VR program and reached for the whip with a smile on his face... After the battle was one, the squad leader told Greg of the "nameless ones", a group of rebels whose soul goal was the destruction of the Judges. Seeing this as his opportunity of a lifetime, greg joined without hesitation and was given his own mobile suit. Mobile Suit: GD2473: God 2473 type Gundam was the same suit Greg lept into during his first battle. It's VR technology is unlike any ever seen, small motion sensors line the room which is lined with screens displaying a 360 view of everything going around the mobile suit. VR projectors show where the weapons are located, making it within an arms reach of the pilot. Using the God Gundam prototype, the nameless one's scientists have adapted this model to be able to use more energy for it's "energy blasts". The only drawback is no way has been found to control the "supercharge" mode in which the mobile suits stats are more than doubled for a short period of time. These times usually result in momentay power losses, sometimes lasting for a full minute. The gundam is armed with an array of weapons, most notibly the whip made out of Lunar Titanium. Other weapons are able to be switched, but Greg usually sticks with a model of a 45 desert eagle, and energy knife for close combat.
14. I don't know who bought that URL just to do that but props for it. It did give me a little laugh.
15. I wanted to go ahead and get this created while I was thinking about it. Just a heads up, I'm going to start us off HOT. A chance for everyone to "discover" their powers.
16. Great sign-ups everyone. After Takuuya's signup they're officially closed, however, since I won't be back on to start the RP until Monday anyone still interested just PM me with your character and I'll let you know if you're in then. I'm going to go ahead and create the backstage thread, it'll be called The Round Table
17. Is there any way for anyone to go back and check and see how many actual users were on the day of the 3059? If not, is there anyway to find out the exact number for the old record? Even if we couldn't have it automatically updated with the "check in" thread, it would be possible to get a count of offical active users. So while we may not be able to beat 3000 we could possibly make this a yearly attempt at beating previous year records. I ask any admin/mod who may be able to determine this to check it out, and even if there's no way to know the "Real" number, I'm still going to get on and make the post to see what we're capable of.
18. I'll never forget,it's one of things that inspired me to join the military. No I didn't jump into infantry, I wanted to do my part but lesson my chances at getting shot. I was a junior in Chem II, as soon as the first tower toppled and our teacher got the news she flipped CNN on and we started watching the coverage. Bless her heart she opened her classroom all day to any students who wanted to keep up with it. Needless to say it hit me hard the number of people that would/could be killed so I sat there all day with a group of my friends and of course the group of people who just wanted to skip their other class'.
19.
*readies his weapons* Now what are said members going to do when they arrive here? Is it just a log on, log off sort of thing?
What I would like to do (I'm not sure if this would be hard on the mods or not) would be start a post here in the convention center, or in the lounge if it would be better, around noon EST ( I know this is earlier than everyone had wanted, but I want to make sure I beat the rush and I'll be on the boards all day watching the fun :animesmil). Now it wouldn't be a discussion persay, just something like Drizzt checking in. I know this goes against the rules a bit so any help on modifying would be helpful. This way we can distinguish how many ACTUAL OB members got on that day, and how many were bots and the like...
20. End of all civilization....or Stephen King's the Mist made real? I'm sure everyone has heard of the super collider they built under Geeneva (SP). Basically it propells Protons at speeds just under light speed smashing them into each other. Decectors record images/data from these and we're going to be able (well not us but the select few) to see possibly other dimensions, black holes, and what happened one-millioneth of a second after the big bang....I want to know what happened before myself but I don't get a say. Not with the possibilty of black holes, opening rips in the space time continum and all that jazz what do you think? I personally think it's only going to give scientists a smaller view of subatomic particles, but I do know doomsday theorists who swear up and down this is the end for humanity and we need to stock up on ammo and food incase monsters from another dimension invade, or spend all your money because the nearest bank is going to be sucked into a black hole anyway. I'm interested to find out if anyone has been following this, knows anything from the first day of "tests", and who out there is a doomsday sayer and thinks by the time this thing gets to full power (if it makes it) what do you expect will/could happen.
21. I had an idea and would like to get the word out about it. On Saturday, September 27 I would like to try an arrange for all active Otaku members to get on at the same time. Setting the new "currently active users". I was reading and the current is 3059 set in april of 2005. I don't have an official count, but I'm sure there are more members now than then. I would like to get an okay from mods/admins to make this an official attempt. I had thought that 12:00 P.M. (noon) EST (Eastern Standard Time) would be a good time for it. Please let anyone you know who is/was a member about this attempt. Three years is a long time gone, let's bring out the otaku spirit, and show everyone exactally how many anime/manga/Role-playing/art/BS fanatics we have!
22. Has anyone seen this movie yet? I watched it a couple nights ago with my fiancee and all I have to say is wow. They turned it into an RPers dream, nobody who role plays can say that they've never been in a story they wished was reality. Plus the different fighting styles, again wow. I have a LOT more to say about the movie, but before I get into a rant about it, I'd like to hear what everyone else thought about it?
23. I haven't yet seen it, but I think I'll check it out. Though you always leave a movie like this feeing you were shorted. Sometime's it is nice to cut loose with an action packed movie with no point. Look at the latest Die hard movie it was nothing but action action action....and then some action. I'll def. check it out I'm sure it won't be that good, especially since it's a prequel to the movie where the main characters first line was. "Boo".
24. Jaster almost fell to the floor, he'd been certain so long that his father had been dead. The simple notion of him being alive was almost more than he could bear. "I...I have to find him Trace" Jaster was almost in tears, a small smile crossed trace's lips. Looking into his eyes Jaster knew he felt the same way about his sister. "I've been looking for my sister for sometime now. And if I didn't believe that I'd find her. Truly believe I'd find her, I'd have given up long ago. But running into you sort've seems like fate, I'm certain we'll find them." Jaster felt like a young kid, the surge of emotions he felt was more than he could take. "Thanks Trace, hey one more question. Do you think you could teach me how to use this sword. When I find my father, I want to show him I've grown up." Trace smiled and turned to walk away. "I'm sure with this crew you'll have plenty of opportunities to usei t, but meet me in the training room on the 2nd deck first thing tomorow, if we have time I'll teach you something"
25. Attempted murder, kidnapping, It's all fair game on the boards. I hope you keep these coming because they're hillarious so far. One problem though, what if say someone would call the number of the phone you hid in allamorph's basement (something to spice it up a bit, I couldn't imagine a PI$$ed off Allamorph hunting you down...scary)
