I haven't tried a whole lot of tea, but the only kind I really like is sweet iced tea. Maybe it's a southern thing, but both sets of my grandparents make the best sweet tea. Since I don't see them very often, I could probably down a gallon of Publix's sweet tea in not a lot of time. Oh geez. My friends love green tea, but I just can't bring myself to enjoy it. I've also tried peppermint tea several times, but when I make it myself I can never taste the peppermint. I've always done it in a single serving, which, when sugar is added, will not taste nearly as good as tea that gets sweetened as it's brewing. Sigh.
Raven Symone was cute on the Cosby show. Then she got Disney'd and they came out with That's so Raven, which I'm convinced is some kind of Communist Nazi KKK Political party you dislike torture device.
I agree. I hate Disney sooooo much. It's depressing that movies like the Lion King and Mulan would be beaten out of the box office in favor of heartless, soulless, bubblegum poppy teenage musicals. Ugghhh.

I ate pizza for dinner and I feel gross. :[ I believe it was Pizza Hut. As I was holding a slice, the pressure from my fingers wrung out a ton of grease. And I could tell there was much more where that came from. Noooo. Regardless, I'll probably indulge in some reheated pizza tomorrow. Assuming there's any left.

Jebus, Hunter, I didn't know you had so much stuff. I'm envious. I mainly play guitar, but I like to fool around with a piano, and drums when I can. I have four guitars - two electric and two acoustic, but I only ever use one of each. I still have my first acoustic, a tiny First Act from WalMart. I don't actually know where it is at the moment, and it's so crappy I never even bother with it. Instead I play an Esteban. I wish I had a better one, though. I usually play electric because it's easier. I have a small sized Wildfire guitar stuffed in my closet, which doesn't even work anymore. I had it for about three years and for how cheaply I got it, it wasn't such a bad guitar. Just lackluster. For Christmas I got an Epiphone Les Paul Standard. There's not much more to say about it than I adore it; it's absolutely beautiful and is one of the best electric guitars I've played. For amplification I have a Hartke 60 watt half-stack. I got it because it was all I could afford and I needed a decently powerful amp. The tone isn't that great on either channel, so I wish I could magically transform it into something amazing. Like a Marshall. Oohhboy. I also own an OLP MM2 bass, but it's been in my friend's custody for almost a year now. I honestly don't know if it's a good bass or not because I bought it used, and it's only ever been played through a crappy 15-watt beginner's guitar amp. There's a real piano in my living room, but I usually play with the Casio synth that I keep in my room. It has a few decent tones but no sustain option, so if I'm recording with it I usually use "Harp" or "Synth Pad," which actually sounds like NES music. Uh, to record stuff I just use a Rock Band mic. It's pretty sweet.
Recently, there's been a lot of these pizzas being sold with cheese in the crust. And now a new one with cheese and meat in the crust. I haven't actually tried them yet, so I'm wondering if I should spend extra money on 'em or not.
Oh yeah, blehh, I really don't like stuffed crust. I'll eat it, but I don't enjoy it. Haha. The problem is my sister loves it so my mom tends to order it. For some reason she thought I loved it too, although I've only ever expressed distaste for the stuff. Huh.
Also, for those who are familiar with Cici's Pizza: opinions?
For the most part, it's gross. They don't have too many options for vegetarians, but the ones they do I don't like very much at all. Whenever I go there I usually only get a few slices of regular cheese pizza, a huge salad, and a ton of their dessert. They do have great desserts. If you've never been there, they have a ton of other stuff. Ridiculous, really. Macaroni and cheese pizza, taco salad pizza, buffalo chicken, hawaiian, meat lovers, etc. etc.

Into the dungeon with the evil man, the pizza has risen, we're free again! Uh, anyway, I hardly ever really enjoy eating pizza. It always makes me feel awful, both mentally and physically, for having consumed a greasy piece of cheese covered carb-board. However, it is always DELICIOUS over the next few days, after being zapped in a microwave. When I am in the mood for pizza, I tend to prefer frozen to delivery. I'm not entirely sure why. But Papa John's is never welcome in my mouth/stomach. Why is it so flat and nasty? It's just not right!

I don't like the music the Jonas Brothers produce, but I must say that yeah, they CAN sing. Nick Jonas is only 14, so his voice hasn't fully changed yet and that's why he sounds like a girl to you. He's been on Broadway and has been recording albums since he was a youngin', so he's already experienced and vocally apt. And the only reason I know any of this is that my sisters are, like every other girl under the age of 16, obsessed with them. But I find it a little strange that you'd make a thread about the Jonas Brothers and such, since usually people only start up discussions about things they enjoy. :P

One night, I was at a friend's party after it had died down, and for some reason some stragglers were just messing around on the piano. They weren't just banging on the keys, they were playing actual songs, but for some reason the sound made me want to throw the piano out the window. The only constant instrument of torture used against me is my sister's iHome, if you could call it an instrument. Oh, and for a similar story: the same sister used to be crazy about learning to play violin, but after being ganged up on by both our mother and mean aunt about how difficult and unrewarding it would be, she no longer expresses any desire to do so. And it wasn't really the discouragement that stamped out her fire, it was how vigorously it was forced on her. We have this running joke now that she'll grow up to be a painter and all she'll do is portraits of broken violins, which she'd mail to our aunt.

This is a friendly reminder to chill out with the heated genre arguments. Please do not start that up again. If you feel like yelling at someone for something that stupid, please do it over an IM service or through PMs. I'm not pointing fingers, as I only scanned most of the posts, but I got the feeling that the debate is leaning in a bad direction. Those who don't care about that stuff, carry on.

I generally don't exercise for lack of interest in doing so, but I have to take a team sports class over the summer to earn the graduation credit without having to bother with the class during the actual school year. So far I've shot a lot of baskets, lifted some weights, and played some weird mix of soccer and keep-away. Usually I wouldn't be so interested in any of this, but the whole class is made up of good friends of mine, so exerting myself is 100% more fun than it would be otherwise. I used to play DDR a lot, but I eventually got bored of that. If I had the chance to play on a machine more often, however, I would spend hours dance dance revolting. I'm also a little interested in taking karate again - the last time I did I had to quit because I started middle school, which didn't end until well after the karate classes started. But as I'm a super self-conscious teenager, I don't think I'll pursue this interest very far.
The only time I ever got creative while making smoothies was the time I started out making a simple Strawberry-Banana smoothie, but because I was bored and feeling creative I added in some mangoes and orange juice. Also, since there was no more sugar left I added in some honey for sweeter.
My favorite homemade smoothie is about the same thing, but without the orange juice or honey. I used a can of that strawberry Bacardi slushy stuff, three bananas, one mango, a bunch of ice, and a crapload of French Vanilla cool whip. Maybe it's a sweet overload, but it was the best smoothie I've ever had, period.
I've decided to work my way through the Modern Library's 100 Best Novels, mostly because I didn't like Time's list. I thought The Things They Carried was on the list, so I read it (it wasn't on the list when I checked after I finished), but it was still a great read. Tim 'O Brien has the writing style I enjoy, and he writes very well. There were some scenes in the book that just implant themselves in your brain and you can't ever forget them.
I had to read this for AP Lang last summer, and it was my favorite book out of the whole set (which may not be saying much, because I also had to read a Thoreau essay, On Writing by Stephen King, Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, and this piece of crap A Lesson Before Dying by I don't even know who. Ugh) Right now I'm reading The Painted Bird by Jerzy Kosinski for AP Lit next school year. I'm only on the fifth chapter so far, but there have been some hella intense scenes already. I'm sure I'll end up liking this book. I'm also reading How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster, but that has taken a backseat to The Painted Bird for want of an actual story.
So, maybe it's a little off topic (but whatever), but maybe somebody could give me some suggestions on something to read. I'm really partial to anything that has maybe Vampires, magic or some kind of fantasy setting. Never hurts to have a little horror/scares in there either!
The only vampire book I've ever read that impressed me with its beyond decency and uniquity was Vamped by David Sosnowski. It has an honestly original plot that is very character driven and well-written, and a heartwarming ending (which you may not be looking for, but I adored its sweetness).

I didn't get a chance to read any of the thread before I left, so it wouldn't have done me any good. :P Besides, I don't own any non-denim bottoms. Other than sweatpants. So I went with the lesser of two evils.

That was...interesting. I went in around 10 minutes to two and I sat there for quite a while. It turns out they have a new manager and he's trying to get visuals of people who applied in case he needs to bring someone else in quickly. I just wore dark jeans and my Beta Club t-shirt (dressed to impress!). The manager didn't ask too many questions, and he focused more on my availability than anything else. He asked how far away I lived, if I drove, where I went to school and if I did any extracurricular activities, etc. The actual "interview" only took about six minutes. It was a good experience, at least.

So I am panicking right now. I was already worried about performing tonight, getting all the little details worked out and making sure I'm ready. Then I got a phone call from Boston Market. They want me to come in today for an interview. I feel like collapsing. So, right now I need help, more than anything. I've NEVER EVER EVER been to a job interview before, so I have no idea what it's like or what's expected of me. The guy said "before five o'clock." Does that mean anytime between then and now or should I go closer to five? I don't know what I'm going to wear, or how I'm going to fit this into my schedule today, or if I can even remain sane/calm during the actual interview. Does anyone have any tips or words of encouragement? :[[[

Cultural Cuisine Preferences?
Claire replied to The Spectacular Professor's topic in General Discussion
I can never get enough Chinese food. I'm not sure what is meant by Americanized, since around here all the Chinese restaurants are run by Chinese people...except for Pei Wei, but I've only been there once and I know it's a chain. My favorite restaurant ever is called Mei Wah, I'm not sure if it's just local or if it has any sister companies. They have the best EVERYTHING: lo mein, rice noodles, fried rice, sauteed potatoes (which is unfortunately only on the lunch menu, so I don't always have the chance to get them), honey potatoes, etc. etc.. And back when I wasn't vegetarian I always ate half my weight in their bourbon chicken, bbq ribs, and pork egg rolls. Om nom nom nom. They're somewhat expensive for me, though - one buffet box, kinda small in size, is about $10. I'm sure the amount of food I usually stuff inside of it is worth more than that, but it just feels terrible to shell out that much money on food period (I hardly ever have more than that on me anyway). So if I'm ever craving lo mein but can't afford Mei Wah, I'll go to one of the tiny clone restaurants. They all have the same interior, same menu (both the pictures on the wall and the paper packet), use the same take-out boxes, and I swear the same woman works at all of them. It's decent enough if I really really need to eat something Chinese. My second favorite cuisine is Italian. For the most part this means American chain Italian like Olive Garden or Macaroni Grill. However, sometimes my half-Italian friend invites me over for dinner, and I get treated to authentic pesto and ravioli. -
I can hardly even stand to look at bugs, so I can't even THINK about ever actually eating one. Besides, I'm already a vegetarian. In fact, I think I've gone meatless for about a year now. Awesome. In a related topic, I was watching Ripley's Believe It Or Not the other day and some guy ate one thousand worms as part of the amazing people tour or whatever. All I could think was "HOW is that something to brag about?" That's not amazing, that's just absolutely disgusting. "YOU JUST ATE 1,000 WORMS! How do you feel?!" "Full." Full, but not satisfied.

Part of Star Wars: Episode IV Since my AP Language class ran out of work to do, we combined two different class periods and had a huge Socratic Seminar on Star Wars. I couldn't participate since the only episode I'd seen at that point was the third, but I came back to the classroom during my AP US History class to watch Episode IV with the other AP Lang period. I pretty much love it. Star Wars: Episode V LATER THAT DAY, some friends and I got together to watch this. The whole viewing consisted of us laughing at Darth Vader's dorkiness (probably my favorite part was
when his ship was chasing the Millenium Falcon thinking it couldn't use hyperspeed - I think I'm getting Star Wars confused with Spaceballs, I really don't remember - and they went ZOOOOOMM and he just stood there silently.
I laughed so hard.) Steel Magnolias My friend forced me to watch this, claiming I would cry at the end. But I did not cry. I was too bored to cry. In fact, I laughed (because I started thinking about Darth Vader again). So I would never ever watch this movie again.

http://www.storylog.com/time-for-some-stories/ These are a whole bunch of stories of some guy's childhood and stuff. They're written so humorously and are described perfectly. Be warned, there's a lot of harsh language and the occasional "suggestive theme," and all of the stories are written in all caps. But I think that just adds to the hilarity. For example:
EVERY CHRISTMAS MY DAD AND MY UNCLE RON GET INTO IMPORTANT ARGUMENTS ABOUT POLITICS AND THE BEST AIRPORTS IN ZURICH AND WHICH PRESIDENTS ARE ******** IN PERSON AND THAT SORT OF THING. MY OTHER UNCLE D. IS KIND OF THE BLACK SHEEP IN THE FAMILY AND WE DON?T PAY MUCH ATTENTION TO HIM. ANYWAY THIS ONE CHRISTMAS MY DAD & RON ARE REALLY GOING AT IT, SOMETHING ABOUT AFRICA, WHEN UNCLE D. WALKS INTO THE MIDDLE OF THINGS GINGERLY CARRYING THIS TAPE LIKE IT WAS A DYING CHILD AND LOOKS COYLY AT MY DAD AND RON AND SAYS ?SO, I BET YOU?LL NEVER GUESS WHAT SONG IS THIS!!? AND MY DAD AND RON COULDN?T CARE LESS AND SOMEONE SAYS SOMETHING ABOUT HOW THERE?S NO TIME BUT UNCLE D. IS ALREADY BREAKING THE TAPE DECK AND JAMMING IN HIS PRECIOUS TAPE. HE FLASHES US A SLY LOOK AND SAYS ?I BET NOBODY HERE WILL GET THIS? AND PRESSES PLAY IT?S ****ING ?HEY JUDE?. 19 PEOPLE IN THE LIVING ROOM ALL SAY ?IT?S ?HEY JUDE?? AT THE SAME TIME AND LOOK AGGRAVATED. UNCLE D. LOOKS AT US ALL IMPISHLY AND SAYS ?NO?.
My absolute favorite story is the one of Cindy. I die laughing every time! -
Nine Inch Nails; "Demon Seed" I downloaded their recent album, The Slip, because it was free. I figured, why not. But upon first listen it was kind of boring. I haven't listened to much NIN in the past, but I sort of get the impression that they're capable of so much more than this. I love "Head Like a Hole," but none of the tracks on this album really stand out much to me.
