I haven't listened to any of Nightwish's new stuff. I was obsessed with them in the eighth grade, but even then I made fun of them all the time and now I can't take them seriously. See this comic. And also this: page 1, page 2 ANYWAY. Last night I saw Trans-Siberian Orchestra for the third year in a row, and it just keeps getting better. They didn't mention their upcoming album this year, which is strange. In the past they've always said it was coming out "soon," only to go a whole year without releasing it. I LOVE their version of Carmina Burana, which is the main reason I want Nightcastle. Some people were walking around with Nightcastle posters after the show, but that's the only mention made of it. One of the best things that happened was that their violin goddess, Anna Phoebe, remembered me from last year's concert.
dammit! I'll never figure out how to upload correctly T_T Anyway, the bass won't match if I do that. because I don't play bass, lol. It took me 4 tries just to play it right when I was recording.
Well...you should record the bass in audacity however you can and save it as an mp3... If you're running a Mac how in the world did you make a Windows Movie Maker file? xD
W00t! That guitar riff is great, so I recorded a bass riff and with the help of my trusty hard drive now you can dl the file with ease! BTW, it will have to be sped up to match Clurr's and there's a bit of reverb ^^;; http://www.mediafire.com/?5bxm0jz0xxj
Oh nose, I can't listen to it either because I don't have Windows Movie Maker on this computer. :[ If you open the riff in audacity you can record your part along with it so it matches up and everything, too. :]

Oh my . D: Well. I did record something, but it's really really short. I don't think we should start off big or anything, so here; http://www.mediafire.com/?4bcgnj9tijs Um, if details are needed, it's 3/4 time, tuned a half step down (Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb, or flat, rather).

In a little bit I'll try to record some kind of riff or something so we have something to start with. After I post it, whoever wants to add on to it can claim it and do so.

There weren't a lot of kids trick-or-treating around my neighborhood this year. It kind of made me sad. :/ Even though I'm 16, two of my friends (16 and 17) and I went trick-or-treating. I love dressing up and candy is awesome, so what's the problem? I was an "itinerant guitarist vampire," one of them was a Sky Pirate, and the other was some kind of punker/Danzig-lookalike. It was pretty fun. Some of the houses we went to wanted us to play a song, so we mostly just did a verse from "Ziggy Stardust." Halfway through the journey we were joined by a freshman wearing a plasma screen TV box and a really tall guy dressed as Master Chief, complete with a CO2-firing paintball gun. We got chased, too, but by mine and the Sky Pirates' sisters and their friends. I didn't know I could run fast for so long, xD. Maybe it was the vampire costume.

I'm American and I always spell it Theatre. :P The new names are pretty cool, though I'm already having some nostalgia. I guess I can't type MM&TV anymore. D:

Horror movies never scare me. I just can't handle gore. :/ The Ring is pretty creepy (which is why I LOVE it). I've only seen the American version, but the Japanese version, Ringu, is probably a lot scarier. If you can find it, you should try watching the Japanese version. (That probably goes for any American remake of a Japanese horror movie.) The Exorcist can be pretty unsettling as well, albeit a bit boring at the beginning. There is one scene in the Exorcist III that seriously scares the crap out of me; not just in a "GOTCHA!" way, but that I kept thinking about that one scene for days after watching it and I got really scared. I even had to sleep with the light on for two days after it. :[ You can probably find that scene on Youtube: just search for Exorcist 3 Nurse's Station or something. EDIT: http://youtube.com/watch?v=zH8ynu0jRvY I can't remember it having much of anything to do with the actual movie, but seriously. I can't even watch it now.

Despite having suggested this both here and on another forum and letting it die before it even got off the ground, I'm all for it. I play guitar, bass, and I can work stuff out on a piano. But since I don't have my bass right now, I'm best at guitar. However, I can't do fast alternate picking or sweep picking as in solos, and I have never been able to get an artificial harmonic out of my guitar. So if we ended up needing some of that stuff, I'm not the right person. I'd be fine with rhythm guitar, though. I think someone should write a part of a song on whatever instrument they can play and post it up here for the next instrument to be added on. I was considering making a thread for that a long time ago but I never even got around to writing a short melody. If anyone needs a recording program, google Audacity. Also, guitarists and bassists should check out Power Tab Editor. You need to know a little music theory, but it's a program that allows you to write out tablature and save it as a tab or a midi. I use it all the time and it's awesome.

I found a band that seems to me to be pretty pretentious. The music is complex in the sense that it can be pretty fast and often uses nonstandard time signatures. The only way I know how to describe their sound is some kind of math metal with "obligatory" sections of funk and no vocals, but it's so awesome. Walking Talking Steven Hawking Of their four songs, I can't really pick a favorite. I don't remember listening to Sith Lords and Plastic Swords, but I looooove the other three. "Barnabas the Sullen Sailor Boy" is actually a story in musical form about a a sailor who is lonely at sea when he meets a girl, Griselda, who throws him a bottle. But the bottle hits the boat and it begins to sink. Somehow he saves himself and he falls in love with Griselda, but she turns out to be his archnemesis. The two fight and Barnabas emerges victorious (in a rather anticlimatic ending, however :/).

All I really need for a costume this year are decent adhesive vampire fangs, since I'm planning on just being vampire me for Halloween. I probably won't do anything all that great that night since it's a stupid school night, though. :[ It would also be pretty cool if I could find a top hat. I don't know why, but I think a top hat would suit me pretty nicely.

Your Favorite Bands - Lets get it out of the way
Claire replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Noosphere
AFI is my most favorite band of all-time, and I've adored them for almost five years now. I own almost every single song they have recorded, I know all the words and how to play about twenty of them on guitar, and I'm a member of the Despair Faction (which is basically the AFI fan club, but the dedication of the DF members often goes much further than that...the DF is more like a family). When AFI came to my city last February, I thought I would die from the excitement, and I still consider that the best night of my life. They write the most amazing songs I've ever heard; the instrumentation is perfect, never too complex but always so incredible, and Davey Havok is a very gifted writer. Don't let "Miss Murder" fool you (all biases aside, it's a rather dumb song that I can't help but like), AFI has so many good songs to listen to. My favorite of theirs is "Now the World," but really I love so many of them that it's hard to pick just one. They have an EP coming out in December featuring a song the fan base have known about since they released Sing the Sorrow but have yet to hear, so I am EXTREMELY excited for it. "Miss Murder" is also a master track in Guitar Hero 3, and it's a very simple song to play so I'm sure it will be in one of the first couple of levels. Other than the music, the people in AFI are part of what makes it so lovable. They're all actually very cheerful and have great senses of humor: when asked if "his glass was half-empty or half-full," the bassist, Hunter Burgan, replied "it's all the way full." -
The Extreme/Heavy Music That Isn't Metal Thread!
Claire replied to Jakehammaren's topic in Noosphere
I don't know why, but I like not being able to understand what's being screamed in a song. It's why I picked Norma Jean over Underoath when I was in ninth grade...though now I can't remember anything about Underoath. -
The Extreme/Heavy Music That Isn't Metal Thread!
Claire replied to Jakehammaren's topic in Noosphere
Woohoo! I've yet to listen to an extreme/heavy band that I haven't enjoyed. -
Jake, what would you consider your top 5 bands, anyway? i know Agalloch and probably Opeth are in there, and now I know Swallow the Sun, but why not show us the rest of the picture?
They're Agalloch, Opeth, Moonsorrow, Swallow the Sun, and Wintersun. :] Riiiiight Jake? :P

I don't think I mentioned this. While my friend and I aren't really a band, we did compose some pretty neat songs on Finale Notepad a while ago. http://myspace.com/patrickandclaire
Unholy Warcry
I cannot even think about that song without laughing. My friend and I heard it back in eighth grade when we were both obsessed with Nightwish (she also liked Cradle of Filth back then, but she is pretty much the polar opposite now) and even then we joked about it. I should sing it tomorrow just to make us laugh. xD
-
The only metal bands I've ever paid much attention to are Nightwish, whom I lost interest in a couple years ago after adoring them through the eighth grade, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra, who I am going to see in November and I'm SO EXCITED. TSO puts on pretty much the greatest live show ever and plays for over two hours.
Clurr, I was actually a bit more fond of your solo project from what I heard... I like the tone of the guitar you were using (whether or not it was synthesized, it just had a nice timbre), and I prefer the way your voice sounds. So yeah. Just my two cents.
Why, thank you! :D I was using an Esteban acoustic guitar with brand new D'addario nylon strings. They're my favorite brand to use both acoustically and electrically. The tone was changed a little in the recording by the mic; a Samson Q1. Some days my voice is better than others, and I guess that must have been a good day. I can sing both alto and soprano, but some songs I have trouble picking which octave to sing in and I sometimes have to switch in between. My soprano voice was kind of hurt from having to sing in chorus even though I had a bad cold and at one point laryngitis, so I try to avoid using that one when I can. I couldn't avoid it in 6 to 8, though. :/ I was never planning on doing much with the solo project. Porphyria was originally meant to be a NOG song but I decided to record it myself for a friend. I don't like to sing alone in front of audiences, anyway, so I could never really perform as "The Cheshire Clurr."

I don't really have a lot of favorite websites, because I can usually be perfectly entertained talking to my friends over AIM. I do come here, obviously, several times a day, just to do my job and see if anything interesting is happening. Whenever a dramatic thread pops up I usually stay here and refresh the page constantly, xD. I also go to the AFI Message Board pretty much every day, but I don't post there very often. Then there's myspace, which very rarely offers any entertainment because I don't get a lot of comments. I probably do a survey almost every day, though, just out of boredom. I try to update my Livejournal every single day, as well as read those of my friends. Sometimes I'll poke around Natalie Dee, XKCD, and Youtube.
-
Since there is only one original song on NOG's myspace (and the recording is pretty bad) I put all the midis on our Virb page. I really really love Drowning Game, Unseen, and The Witness. Automne is really pretty, too. So if you do go listen to some of the songs, just remember that the instruments are computer generated and will not have the same effect as if they were played by my actual band. Um, I really don't care about genres, but Kevin said something about us playing post-punk stuff so I suppose that might describe us best. (I don't know for sure because I don't care. =P). I'm heavily heavily influenced by everything AFI has ever done, so our sound is probably somewhat of a conglomeration of every sound they've had over the years (quite a few, as they tend to change with every new album). I have no idea what a blu-ray disk is. D: But that's pretty much it. I'm only 16 and I never really feel any older. Oh, I guess thinking about college and the fact that in less than two years I will finally get out of this house makes me feel kind of old.

Your Room. In Picture form. (image heavy)
Claire replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in General Discussion
^^;; I'm not. My left hand is not on the mouse, merely offscreen. Actually, when I use my mom's comp I use the mouse on the left cuz she's a lefty and has it there, but I use the right with mine cuz it's more comfortable with my desk. Anyway, i suck with my left hand.
I didn't notice the mouse, but your guitar is left-handed. Unless the picture is flipped? -
Your Room. In Picture form. (image heavy)
Claire replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in General Discussion
I didn't know you were left-handed, DB. Here's my TV, VCR, and satellite (which is currently broken :[ ). The mouse for my computer is lodged underneath the PS2 cables because there's something wrong with the connection on my TV and the only way I can get it to show what the PS2 is reading is to put something under the cables. :/; On top of the TV is a pack of Jack Skellington incense. And here's the Playstation. Surrounding it are socks, my favorite book, the Bewitched DVD case, a piggy bank, a CD case, and notebooks. They probably fell off my satellite. Next to my TV is the computer, which is very old. The desk is cluttered, as usual, because I don't have a trash can in my room and I'm often too lazy to take an empty drink can all the way to the kitchen to dispose of it. Above my computer is a cluster of photographs and papers from middle school. The blue thing is my Thespian sash I got last year for being inducted as one. Next to the computer is a DBZ poster I put up in sixth grade and never felt like taking down. I still love it, anyway. Here are my half-stack amp, electric and acoustic guitars, and keyboard. Behind them is a huuuuuge window that I covered up with a purple bedsheet. Next to that is my bed. It has three pillows and a bunch of blankets for when my room gets freezing cold in the winter. Above the bed is my lovely Despair Faction (the AFI fan club) poster. I also have a red velvet recliner that used to belong to my grandpa between the bed and my closet, but I can't find that picture now. :[ Finally, this is how my room usually looks: It's so ambient. When it's clean it's the best place in the world to hang out. Side note: The reason the last picture is so blurry is that I have to change the exposure time in order to fully take the dim light from the Christmas lights, which means the picture takes a lot longer to capture. And I have very shaky hands, as seen in some of the other pictures. :P
