Writing The Otakuboards Celebration: Part 1
Heaven's Cloud replied to Raiha's topic in Creative Works
Oh the suspense! Oh the intirgue! Kuja, that one I saw coming , but the return of Seph? That blindsided me almost as much as the last episode of Lost: Season 3. -
Your ex was being a jack*** and you have every right to be offended. A few years back I had an ex pull a similar stunt. She called enraged about a year after we dated, screaming accusations that I gave her a STD. Fortunately, I am smart enough to get myself tested between partners so I knew that not only had I not given her a STD she hadn?t passed one my way either. I was so angry when she pointed her finger my way that, instead of being polite and consoling, I called her a stupid whore (this is actually a very polite and watered down version of what I said) and told her not to call me again. So, I didn?t really handle the situation any better than she did. Still, blaming a partner for passing along an STD is pretty ridiculous. It takes two people to have unprotected sex, so both people are to blame. Your ex should have simply called you and said, ?hey, you should probably go to a clinic and get yourself checked out for STDs?.
Well, if I heard that I would be pissed cause I'm a huge Coheed and Cambria fan that it's not even funny. I don't have of the comics, but I'd be pissed anyways. Sometimes soemone like that can make someone, (I.e. me) POed.
Why would that make you angry? It is only a t-shirt and it isn?t as though she attempted to fib her way through the question. I like the Washington Redskins, I have a Redskins sweatshirt, but I couldn?t name there secondary. Does that make me a ?poser? for wearing the shirt? Just because someone doesn't share you level of passion for a band doesn't mean their right to wear that t-shirt is any less valid than yours is. I found this whole discussion a lot more relevant when I was younger. This is more or less because most of us want our individuality to get us noticed, to make us stand out from the herd. Everyone wants to be the trendsetter, the one that went there first, that wore their hat in that fashion first, that peed into a Styrofoam cup while jumping nine busses on a motorcycle first. But why? What most people should be concerned about is not their uniqueness but their individual happiness. It is far saner to do what makes you happy and let the dominos fall where they will. After all, if you were truly happy would really mind if you were unique or not?
Haha, that's so true... I would so sneak out during a rap battle. XP Anyway, I've been enjoying reading this. :catgirl:
Then you, my friend, would be missing out on a monumental occurrence. The last time Charles and I had a rap battle it was so fantastic, so amazingly good, that Jebus actually came down from heaven and said ?never on earth shall there be a rap battle like this again?. And there hasn?t been?mainly because I am not sure if Jebus was complementing us or making a veiled threat. Hay-soos is gangsta yo. -
The only two games that I am positive I have spent over 100 hours playing are Tekken 3 for PS1, and Goldeneye for the N64. When I was in college my dorm used to have massive Tekken and Goldeneye tournaments that involved heavy drinking and light gambling. It was a blast. There are probably other games that I have logged 100 hours in, maybe some Final Fantasy games, perhaps the original Marvel vs. Capcom and X-Men arcade games (my friend owned them both growing up), perhaps even Mario Kart.
It took me a bit to get the hang of sliding, too. Right now I'm working on Hard; I can only complete about 3/4 of the songs, though. A few of them are just too much for me to handle right now. Regarding "Through the Fire and Flames" ... I hate that song. It's needlessly difficult, and the song itself is garbage.
I actually just finished the game on medium yesterday (I also bought all of the bonus songs, which are pretty spiffy), so I will probably start giving it a go on hard today. It will be interesting, I am not sure how I will position my hand for the stupid orange key. Hammer ons and offs work well for me on the slides, however, I haven?t had to hit any five finger slides yet, so who knows how that will work out. My biggest problems are the quick hammer ons that have a one or two finger spread between them (like on One or Knights of Cydonia). Oh, and I love ?Through the Fire and Flames? just because it is such a cheesy song. Still, I found it hard to hit above an 85% on it on medium, so on hard it must give people fits.
The idea in short: Involves some of us baking a pie and Sandy being angry because we weren?t making the pie right.
You could always make Sandy so angry about the incorrectly made pie that bloody revenge is sought out. Sandy could seek out everyone that had a hand in not only making the pie, but selling the ingredients or even smelling its aroma. -
This week three albums seem to be hitting my rotation pretty hard. The first is Accidents Will Happen by Elvis Costello and the Attractions. Most famous for ?My Funny Valentine? and ?Peace, Love and Understanding?, Accidents Will Happen has a horde of great pop tracks. Still, the album isn?t for everyone. If you have heard Elvis Costello?s music before and didn?t enjoy it this album isn?t going to change your opinion of him. Another album that has been hitting the rotation quite often is Dog Problems by The Format. Whenever I describe this album I say ?they sound kind of like Queen but more poppy and less rock-opera?. No one seems to agree with that evaluation though. Still, it is a fun album that just about everyone can enjoy. Finally, I have been hooked on First Impressions of Earth by the Strokes. I hadn?t listened to this album for a year or so and I had forgotten how good it was. Last night I went for a long walk in the snow and got lost listening to the album. Both the lyrics and instrumentals are very simple yet mesh wonderfully, giving the illusion of a much more complex album.

The OtakuBoards Nifty Fifty: 07 Edition(Nominate or Die)
Heaven's Cloud replied to Justin's topic in General Discussion
Who is it? Neuvoxraiha Why is she Nifty? Raiha has been around forever, but that doesn’t make her nifty. Nope what makes her nifty, what makes her a BAMF, is that she has always used this site to entertain herself. She more or less does what she wants and her no nonsense, slightly perverted attitude makes her one of the most original members that still frequent this joint. What is it? The Nifty Fifty Why is it Nifty? Because it is so vastly superior to the old Otaku Awards. Unfortunately, some OBers were just a trifle insecure and, during the old days of the Otaku Awards, my PM box would get flooded with messages that were more or less veiled solicitations for voting nominations. It was kind of a drag. The Nifty Fifty eliminated all of that and also allows us to vote for stuff, which is pretty rad. Who is it? Dagger Why is she nifty? I don’t think I have ever conversed with Dagger, even during discussions within threads. Still, I realize that she is the undisputed empress of anime. This site was originally intended as an anime centric message board ergo she must be among the niftiest of members. What is it? The Daily Otaku, post #46: “OtakuBoards Evolution or Revolution” Why is it nifty? It seems almost prophetic. And while I am on the subject… Who is it? Desbreko Why is he nifty? He has a fan club. If I didn’t mention him he, along with every member of his fan club, would have the right to kick me square in the nads for being a dishonest, unobservant moron. Who is it? People that recognize that I am a trendsetter Why is he nifty? I might not have been the first person to nominate themselves in an overly narcissistic manner but I was the first person to be deemed nifty for doing so. We all know that it is only because of my greatness that so many of you have hopped on the “I am going to nominate myself” bandwagon. Don’t worry, it is okay to worship my trendy-ness. Heck, it will be okay when you guys tell members that it is okay for them to worship your trendy-ness in the years following this entry. -
Well crap, I just did a little research and apparently the Wii version only outputs mono sound. If that doesn't get fixed I'll probably just get it, or maybe the cheaper GHII, for the PS2 instead since I don't have a PS3 or Xbox 360. No online play or downloadable content would suck but I think mono sound would suck more. I really don't care about the graphics though. It's not like I'm looking at the characters while I'm playing anyway.
I got Guitar Hero 3 for PS2 as a Christmas present from my cousins and I think it is definitely worth picking up. I have also played it on X-Box 360 (just a song or two) and I didn?t experience a notable difference in game play, so it is a worthwhile purchase. As a guitar player I didn?t really enjoy the game at first, but I think that is because, initially, I could have easily picked my guitar up and learned to play the songs far better than I could mash the damn buttons on the guitar controller. After playing a little though I have become hooked, especially since the set list is so good for Guitar Hero 3. The Who, Metallica, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Johnson, Queens of the Stone Age, Muse, Sonic Youth, shoot, even the Pretenders? song, make the normal set list great. And then, as a bonus, there are great additional tracks by bands like the Kaiser Chiefs and cheesy songs by groups like the Brett Michaels Band. My only real question is whether or not Velvet Revolver makes an appearance on the game? After all, one of their songs shows up on the commercial for the game.

Some frequent points in this thread that I would like to touch on. The physical beauty of prostitutes – Far more people purchase clothes from Wal-Mart than clothes from Prada. Still, that doesn’t mean that there are not an awful lot of people sporting Prada threads out. The same can be said about prostitutes. If you go to any large city there are plenty of drop dead gorgeous call girls and it is an entirely different market than the corner street walkers you see on Cops. Degrading – To whom is prostitution degrading? The prostitute? Maybe her kink is to have sex with strangers. Maybe she likes being a prostitute and it suites her lifestyle better than working at Wal-Mart or Costco would. Morality – If you find the act of sex between people that are not in love immoral then it is easy to see why prostitution is immoral. However, if you don’t glorify sex then I fail to see how you could find prostitution immoral (other than you are purchasing something you might be able to get for free elsewhere). Honestly, I don’t care if prostitution is legal, actually I would say I would prefer if it remained illegal. Still, that doesn’t mean I can rationally justify why it should remain illegal. Hypocritical? Yeah, I’ll admit to that.

To rephrase George Carlin (without all his wonderful profanity) selling is legal. Sex is legal. So why isn't selling sex legal? You can make it more complicated, factor in religion, morals, and all that mess, but why muck with such an uncomplicated equation.

Oh no, blast my unobservant nature! Des, you have been aware of our insidious plan for months now! I call for arms! Old members unite; we attack at noon regardless of the time zone! Wield your exclamation points frequently and without mercy! Freedom!!!!! Oh, and by the way Desbreko, weren’t you the one that brought the cookies to the “Let us take back the OB by the most violent means necessary” meeting last month? Really though, this article was hilarious.

Anime The anime here in america...is it getting childish?
Heaven's Cloud replied to Humaru's topic in Otaku Central
Disclaimer: Image posts are jokes, don't take them seriously.
Phew, I was worried until I read that disclaimer. Still, that evil little girl may give me nightmares this evening. Really though, what is childish? It really is all just perspective based. Regardless of your perspective, anime on television has not gotten more or less adult oriented during the past five years. Some shows remain geared to an older audience while others are aimed at a younger group of fans. I could argue that 12 years ago or so anime on American television was geared towards a generally older audience though, because the main venue was the Sci-Fi network played anime films like Akira, Wicked City, Tank Girl, and Demon City Shinjuku on Sunday mornings more or less subbed but unedited. Still, I was watching worse in terms of graphic nudity, language, and violence at a younger age, so the idea of something being childish remains entirely speculative. -

Boring? Me? That is definitely defamation of character. True, maybe, but defamation none the less. Class action lawsuit time boys and girls! I’d say that I feel bad for Rick Hunter and all the flack he has been getting, but I don’t. I have always been a bastard. -
... O_o ...it... was a joke. Indifference is a behavior, AND there's a member named indifference. Get it? Ah man, my jokes suck. (fail)
It was an amazingly bad joke. However, it was so bad that I actually found it pretty funny.
What pisses me off is that my friend's going to give me a condom cause my girlfriend is there. And I'm not there to have sex I'm there for fun.
I thought sex was fun? Anyway, I think your friend is half smart. Better to be prepared. He would be smarter if he brought you half of a dozen condoms instead of one condom though. Having one condom is like going to a shooting range and firing one bullet. Yeah, it is fun, but since you are there you might as well have a good time and fire off a few rounds. (and yes, I realize that your intention was to write that you don?t want to be pressured into having sex, so, in case you felt the need, you don?t have to clarify). I am heading into Cleveland tonight with my girlfriend for some dancing and drinking with my quasi-girlfriend (who would be very upset with me if she knew I referred to her as my quasi-girlfriend) at a swanky downtown hotel. It should be a merry time, I?m actually looking forward to getting all dressed up and hitting the town.
but I'm the type of person that assumes the best in everyone.
It is a far better trait than expecting the worst in everyone. That would just be a sad way to spend life. Kind of like life without Jessica Biel?soooo hot?want to tou? ?ahem? sorry. I have seen Billy Madison far too many times. I have actually made plans to meet up with a few people from the OB, but the plans usually fall through due to my work/travel schedule. Still, I don?t really see meeting someone from online as being any more or less dangerous than meeting up with someone you met at a bar, party, or set up with on a blind date.
-
I personally believe the opposite of love is actually indifference.
I?d agree with that. I think that many people fail to realize that love and hate are not mutually exclusive emotions, it is easy and common to hate someone you love. It is impossible to be truly indifferent to someone you love (or hate for that matter). I have never been in love. Sure, I have thought I was in love before, but I have never honestly met anyone that has made me care about their feelings and happiness more than my own (with the exeption of some immediate family). Hatred? Well yeah. But I tend to have a petty sense of hatred. Rarely do I hate people that have wronged me. Instead I hate people that, through no fault of their own, point out or illustrate my own flaws. It isn?t an intense ?I?m going to kill you? hatred, but more of an intense internal loathing.
-
I don't really see the issue here. You obviously know you have to tell your folks. Regardless of how you approach the discussion it will suck. Still, better to get it over with now so you aren't haunted by the dilemma longer than necessary. Best to get through it and move on.
She was already diagosed with depression. She was probably taking medicine or getting therapy or something already. It sounded like her parents cared enough to talk with her and deal with such things. Sometimes stuff just doesn't work. Depression varies from person to person. It may have seemed alright to everyone around her -- like a child crying over a broken toy -- something they should be able to get over. The girl may very well have not been able to get over it as easily as everyone assumed.
I don?t know if you are trying to refute my statement or inform me of the girl?s medical history. I am aware that she had been diagnosed with depression and that she was taking an anti-depressant medication. However, I specifically wrote ?comprehensive psychiatric aid? for a reason. Popping a Paxil pill once a day when you are as obviously as emotionally frail as this girl was is about as effective as trying to mend a severed limb with duct tape, it might seem okay for a little while, but eventually the damn thing will rot and fall off. She was way too young to have been diagnosed with depression and not be involved in some sort of serious therapy (which, according to every article I read, she wasn?t). Don?t get me wrong, the wife is a sick *****. But is she to blame? Maybe a little, but not as much as genetics or individual frailty. You can be unrealistic and hope that everyone is always nice, and adults are always responsible, unselfish members of society, but that isn?t real life.
-
You know, it could just be peer pressure. What if all the guys are telling all the girls that they wouldn't sleep with anyone who doesn't walk with a cane. When I told everyone that, it had a huge effect - although the opposite from here. Even girls who had medical reasons to use canes stopped using them...
That just means you need to use reverse reverse psychology. Try this, tell all the girls that you won't sleep with them unless they wear clothing. Then, at least, you'll have have a bunch of naked girls running around.

When I was younger I was a pretty accomplished symphonic trumpeter (well at least amongst the high school and college talent pool) so I tend to gravitate to songs that I enjoyed to play. Concertos by Haydn, Hummel, L. Mozart, Richter, Handel, and Hertel bring back really fond memories. Some other composers that I really enjoy include Mahler, Prokofiev, Shubert, and Wagner. Like James though, most of the time I really have no idea who or what I am listening to. I do listen to classical music every night when I am in bed though, and I cannot say that I have ever found the radio to play anything unpleasing to the ear.
Final Fantasy IV is getting a direct sequel. Yes, FFIV being my favorite in the series, I was overjoyed; I've always thought that FFIV's story had a lot of potential for a good sequel. Until I read one little line that killed my hope of ever getting to play it: "...appears to be mobile exclusive." The joy has turned to rage now since that means the game will probably never see release in the US. I really hope the 3D remake of FFIV on the DS sells well enough in the US that maybe, just maybe Square Enix will consider porting The After to the DS over here. The full news story is here on 1UP.com.
OMFG dood! Yeah, I only drop net speak when I am completely psyched. I really hope they port this game to the DS. They probably won't but I hope they do.
