Once you taste highspeed you never want to go back. I'm using my school's highspeed at the moment, I think they are running a high-end roadrunner package, but might also be using an actual business class T-series line like a T3. Only reason it sometimes lags here is because of the number of people using it, but it is still an entire order of magnitude faster than the hughesnet I use at home.

I still can't help but think that they are going to play Hare Hare Yuki at least once at AC3 2007, which I am probably going to be going to. And I can't wait for season 2 to come out, I'm curious where they go with the storyline after the events of the last episode (timeline order)

I made this for my own forum, just because I can use something like that in a situation. Yes, that is my blacksmithing hammer and a real anvil, the anvil that I normally use at the forge. I dragged it out of my shop and set it in the tall grass just for that picture.

I have seen Tales of the Abyss around for $20-$30, though I haven't got a PS2 to run it on. I bought a GC for Tales of Symphonia, but then ended up not being able to play any of the other Tales of games. I have heard a good bit about it though from the official Namco Tales of forums. Just a heads up, if you mention Ion or Sync prepare to be mugged by fangirls.
But still, did you listen to the song?
If I can find it I'll give it a try, I don't use P2P to get songs and the place where I do get them doesn't have that many good or rare ones. SOS Brigade Hare Hare Yuki

This is an idea I have had on the drawing board for some months, and thought I would put it out there to see if anyone has suggestions for refinements, enough interest and I will create an actual recruiting thread for it. This is my first RP on this forum, I have RP'd previously on other forums, typically using only two threads for each one- the RP, and the OOC which included the recruiting and the actual OOC discussion. Anyway, here is what I have so far. While it is currently set up for the forum it was originally meant operate on, it should run here as well. Note that this is very unique in that each player not only gets their own character, but they also get their own universe- which is where the name comes from and will be explained in detail in the actual recruiting and initial posts. ~Inner Universe~ Foreword: This is a significant departure from all the RPs I have been in, in that each player will get to create their own universe, connected by the real world as a common universe or “Outer Universe” I will define additional rules for that, while most of the RP will take place in the main universe I define. Storyline: (Earth, Year 2010. Mid Pacific Ocean) The Village of Mt. Angelica appears to a casual tourist as an ordinary resort island town, somewhere in the pacific. All the things one would expect of a reasonable sized town can be found on short notice, while the more adventurous can attempt to climb Mt. Angelica, the dormant volcano that composes the island. Students go to school, Lovers sit at the beach or in the park, merchants sell their wares, and working folk hurry about trying to make a living. It is a popular tourism spot, attracting wealthy and celebrities from around the world. However, there has been a disturbing series of events recently. People have begun to disappear for hours at a time, then suddenly reappear and tell tales of adventures that could only have happened inside a fantasy universe. To date nobody knows why, but it seems that there is something about Mt. Angelica, something that no adult could ever explain. Only those with a vivid imagination could have ever believed something like this to be even possible, and that nobody could explain without seeing it themselves. Something that many would say was just a dream, a blending of reality and fantasy. Yet in at least once instance people have reappeared bearing wounds that are impossible in reality. Rules: 1. NO GODMODDING. I don’t know how many times I’ve called that. Your characters will get hurt in a fight; it is inevitable. But too powerful too soon is another common godmod that I have called in the past. 2. NO controlling another character without permission. This includes combat, you cannot hurt another character without permission to cause damage. Disarming is acceptable within limits, you can knock a weapon out of another’s hand, but you cannot then cause that weapon to be out of their reach, such that they would not be able to pick it back up within three lines and resume combat. 3. NO drastically changing the plot or the main universe. While I will be allowing a lot in this RP because of all the inner universes, the main universe and it’s works still has to obey real world limits. 4. Please use 3rd person past tense format for all of your posts. I find any other style difficult to read, and although I will allow limited amounts of first person present or past tense, 3rd person past tense is the proper format for a RP. 5. These characters are designed to be high school students, tourist or not. I will permit a limited number of adults such as teachers or people from town, but you must PM me in advance if you want such a position or it will be rejected. 6. Limit of 2 characters, exceptions will be made if you contact me and prove that you can manage more than that. 7. Please mark your location with every post, be as accurate as possible but also try to maintain this style: Universe (Normally Real World), Location, Affected Character Bios: Note that there are actually two bios for each character, one is their real-world persona the other is their inner universe persona. Also please note that while everyone in the real world is human, inside the inner universes anything goes as far as races and abilities within sensible limits of high fantasy or even sci-fi. Real World Name: Real World Gender: Real World Age: (be reasonable. We are human here, and most of us are in high school) Real World Appearance: (Bleach Anime style school uniforms when in class, use this space for what they wear when not in class and also for details like hair style/color and body type. Try to give details like height etc.) Real World Year and Class: (Just to simplify matters use the American standard for class year, then the class number since the definitions for each level are different) Personality: (Should be consistent with the nature of the inner universe such as a dark and cruel person having a similar inner universe, or a really nerdy character having a scifi mecha type inner universe.) Real World GPA: (What are your grades like) Real World Character History: (If you want to give it, your character’s past.) Inner Universe: (Describe their inner universe. How the world of that is like. It should be a manifestation of their personality, and how they see the world or how they want to see the world. Also give the history of your inner universe, but remember that while at the start of this RP nobody will have gone to an inner universe yet the inner universes can know about the outer universe (outer universe aka real world) The means to enter an inner universe will be described in the RP itself, my current game plan involves the first few entries being done through actual dreams while later a more convenient method will be used as the inner universes become more important.) Inner Universe Appearance: (be creative here, this is how your character sees themselves and how they appear when in an inner universe, lots of details, and no real limits on styles or articles within a PG rating.) Inner Universe Races: (Races used in an inner universe, there has to be at least one human or human-like race to serve as a default for others. Note that while a person can be a different race in their home universe, all other universes they are human by default unless you describe how you see yourself to the person who’s inner universe you are in, which is easiest by just going to each other’s inner universes.) Inner Universe Age: how old are you in your inner universe, must be consistant with personality and the rules of the inner universe. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Any suggestions for improvements, I do know this is a bit unusual because of the inner universes giving people a lot more flexibility with regards to how the storyline can play out. Also if there is sufficient interest in this idea I will attempt a recruiting and see how it plays out, this is a new idea that has yet to be tested so even I don't know what will happen.

I actually think I fall more into the nerd variety than the common Otaku, but I still have yet to find a clear difference between the two, especially since a lot of nerds do get into anime, particularly the scifi/mecha stuff. So, what do you think is the deciding factor between the two?
Hahaha! No, no, no... both those bands are pretty much the opposite of Evanescence. It's epic Viking music. If your heart is truly a Heathen one, as your screenname suggests, you will love this. Here, go to that link and listen to the song "Jumalten Kaupunki": http://www.myspace.com/moonsorrowfinnougria
I'm not really a heathen, roman catholic to be exact. I just like the norse lore and ideas, because of it's fantasy and historic value. So little is actually known about it. Queen Bohemian Rhapsody
Are you honestly trying to say that they are Confederates? And that we need to be finding and resisting them? You're confusing. The Civil War was hundreds of years ago. XP
The civil war might have been hundreds of years ago, but it still rages to this day, just not on the battlefield. I should know, even living in the north my brother is a confederate, and we fight constantly, though ususally not over that issue. Also I said there are some still in existance, that doesn't mean everyone who lives towards the south is. Though I know I have at least one uncle who is known to be, living in Georgia no less. And I wouldn't put it past any of those who still hate people of other cultures to do something like this.
-
I could have sword the reason that West Virginia was split off the main Virginia before the Civil War was because the folk in West Virginia opposed slavery and mistreatment of other races, while the people in Virginia wanted to keep their slaves no matter what. I guess there are still hate-crime level racist people out there, especially in the southeast US, where you do still get confederates from time to time. People these days do sick and disgusting things I guess, they shouldn't but nobody is willing to stop them, nor are they going to even bother finding or resisting them all.

Three Dog Night Joy to the World And the reason for the norse name is because it was originally the name of a character in a norse fantasy RP, though i do know a lot more about the norse lore than most.

Are you ready for some (American) Football?
Odin M Yggdrasi replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in Noosphere
I went to a preseason Giants vs Panthers almost a month ago. Really boring I think, I ended up spending more time watching the game on the jumbotron than actually watching it on the field. Though the midget match at half time was funny, they had brought in two high school teams for a mini-game during half time. I'm not really into sports though, it's more fuss and fighting than it's worth in my mind, even though people do like it. Though I was a Buffalo Bills fan way back when Jim Kelley played for them, dunno how many of you would remember that, and I haven't followed them in over 10 years. -

I have no idea what is going on here, but here's some classic gold from where I come from. That's one of my own too, though probably other people have done similar ideas.

ever deadly cancer sticks (thread for smokers)
Odin M Yggdrasi replied to Metalcore501's topic in General Discussion
I find the smell of cigarette smoke to be quite offensive, which is suprising since there are a lot of other combustion byproducts that are relaxing when I detect them. For some reason, cigarette smoke smells worse to me than trying to burn damp lawn clippings, while the fumes from a woodstove or campfire smell pleasant, and the exhaust of a coal stove brings back memories to the years at the county fair when I learned blacksmithing- they smell like the forge does, and like the forge I built does. There's a variety of smells that I like, but that is one that I really don't like. I'll be really glad when next semester the college I attend will be completely smoke free- they are banning tobacco on campus at the end of this semester. -
Think you can predict stuff?
Odin M Yggdrasi replied to Tetra of sound's topic in General Discussion
Do you think you can predict things? It doesn't matter how far or how close it is from now, I would love to hear them! I think one thing will eventually happen, and none(that I know.) can deny it. Eventually, all the unpopular people will rise up to defeat the evil popular people of the future!!! Those who disagree will regret denying it when it happens. Enough of me, though, it is your turn to predict stuff!
Too easy, way too easy. But, it only works well when you know someone at least a little, for example I couldn't accurately predict anything for any of you now, but in a few months I could do something and then tell you what your reactions would be before you post. Divination is not magic at all, even though in high fantasy it is usually associated with extensive magic in reality it isn't magic at all. I know for a fact that I do not use magic at all, and yet I still can at times predict something with scary accuracy. It's not something that if you ask me to predict your future I will be able to, it is one of those where I really have to know the person to be able to predict what will happen to them, and it typically is scenario-dependent. I've done it a fair number of times, including the death and rebirth of an entire forum, and minor everyday predictions such as predicting accurately what someone's response to something I say will be. It's really easy when you know what to look for, and having practiced for so long I sometimes will do this without even trying to. The underlying power of it is understanding the mind of the person or group you are making the prediction for. If you know how they will react you can tell them something that will cause them to take action in such a way that your 'prophecy' is fulfilled, because in a sense you put the idea in their head in such a way that they would cause it to happen themselves. Even Harry Potter has that connection- the prophecy that set the stage for the series, if the main villain had never heard that prophecy it would never have been fulfilled, but because he heard it he took an action that caused it to be fulfilled. Even a power like mine though, would not have been able to stop 9/11. That was completely out of the blue, the only possibility is if I had been near one of the terrorists before it happened, I would have figured out what they were up to. Even a truly divine power might not have detected and stopped it in time. -
I use Hughesnet, it's a satellite fed internet since I am too far from town to get any highspeed by cable or DSL, in fact the RoadRunner cable ends at the end of my road, a full mile down the hill. They advertise 768 kb/s down, 128 kb/s up, which wouldn't be overly awful if they didn't have a "Fair Access Policy" that reduces me to sub-dialup speeds if I download more than 200MB in one day. Highest download speeds I have recorded are around 100 Kb/s, which isn't too horrible, but I normally am running about 60kb/s because of other users on the same satellite. What really gets under my skin though is the way they implemented it. The modem has a typical ping time in excess of 3000 ms, it times out almost constantly for that reason. They are also using a transparent proxy in their network, which while it does allow reasonable access speeds and web browsing it efffectively blocks any and all attempts to port forward since I have no control over that proxy or the internals of the modem. They also have no method of indicating how much you have used in a given day, I ended up having to find a development group that made a tracker program to monitor usage so I don't throttle constantly. As for routers, I use a Netgear and never have any trouble with it. Though it is different for me since I know the technology quite well, having built the computer that I am writing this from myself and having installed the entire network in my house except for the satellite modem and dish. I usually end up doing my own techsupport, commerical techs probably find me to be about 800 times more annoying than the average person who knows nothing about computers because I tend to actually know more about the technology their company uses than they do. Maybe in a few days I'll make a computer helpdesk thread somewhere, since from the way it sounds there might be a good bit of people that could benefit from it.
-
I usually will watch it somewhat regularly, other than hiding it when my brothers are around since one of them is biased against it. I also will run many series at once, but I typically am limited to about three episodes per day, just because of the nature of the ISP I use.
I can't think of how to properly phrase the questions due to the fact that my brain is only functioning at half speed so bear with me please. I'm just curious about how people learned about sex (school, parents, Cinemax?) What myths, truths, facts or rumors did you have to go on? Anything you wish you just didn't know (Or see, because I can imagine some of us have some scarring in our lives from things we wish we'd never seen) Or maybe some emberassing stories? Also a more serious question. (I'm covering all bases tonight) Do you think that abstinence is important? Should you wait to have sex after marriage or does it just matter that you're mature enough to make that type of decision? Just remember to keep it clean since this isn't an adult site, so please don't get too graphic. No one really wants to know every single detail. As for myself: I went to school during the Clinton administration but my health teacher was very conservative. So the sex-ed class left much to be desired. My mom covered a lot of the basics with me (sometimes I wish she hadn't) and even took me to get birth control pills. I know not everyone wants all the intimate details, but for me it wasn't all that exciting the first time. Infact it was lack luster and I wished I had a book. :D The phrase 'We are not amused' flashed in my head a few times. And I was convinced my roommates in college had lied to me. As for the abstinence question. I didn't exactly wait and I don't believe my kids will either. I think it's all about personal choices. But you should make sure that you're ready to do something that big. Of course in that same breath: You test drive a car before you buy it so why shouldn't you sleep with someone you're thinking of marrying? Sorry, I'll try to think better tomorrow. But other opinions would be appreciated.
Since this thread is already 5 pages and will probably move very fast, I will answer the first post only. No sex untill marriage. Not only are there social reasons for that, including the influence of the church, and the general disrespect associated with it, but it is also good for people's health. The fact is once you are married you are supposed to stay with that person forever, which means any STDs that person might be carrying will only be shared between you two and not spread to anyone else. If you have sex before marriage, you run the risk of getting or transmitting an STD, and then not ending up with that person, which is almost guaranted to result in that STD getting spread to anyone that you or your ex then go with. There is also the fact that no contraceptive is 100% efficient, even the most well known and highest effectiveness of them is still only 99%, and that 1% that it fails does in fact happen regularly. Normally that would be an acceptable risk, but the consequences of that risk can easily ruin three lives or more in a single incident and is not worth the risk.

It is a bit simple, but RPing at a high level takes practice. I'm probably rusty from not having RP'd in a while, but it will come back to me quick. I know this is medieval Europe, but out of curiosity, what are your parameters for magic or mythical races? I usually run a holy affinity, but tend to only use it for ranged combat (holy lightning) and healing. I'll manage without if you don't have provision for it though. Edit: And yes, I am the Odin that Momishin is referring to. Name: Odin M Yggdrasil Age: 20 Weapons: Two blacksmithing hammers, each one handmade and runed, forged by Odin himself in his father's forge. He also has a dagger that is usually either on his belt, or hidden in a boot. Personality: Unpredictable to say the least. It changes in response to his mood, when he is happy he will be kind and compassionate, while still using a base of rationality and logic to make decisions. When he is angry or depressed he can become cold and heartless, even violent in rare instances. The cold logic and reasoning becomes more apparent when he is like this. You will also find that he can sense pain and suffering in those around him for an unknown reason- it's not a form of magic but is something he was born with. It affects how he acts from time to time. Appearance: 6'2", 150 lbs. Very fine build, he has muscle but it doesn't show. Normally he wears a Grey wool shirt, short sleeved, and dense cotton pants, blackened with soot and grease. Over this he wears a leather apron having pockets for his collection of tools and for bits of iron that he uses at the forge. He does not use armor regularly, but at times will add leather wrappings to his pants and leather sleeves, typically you only see him with those while in the presence of an iron smelter. Bio: A simple farmer's life in a homestead on the edge of the black forest, while his father is a knight he still always lived close to the land, farming the family's fields, learning blacksmithing skills from the town smithy, and tinkering with different things using the blacksmithing skills. So far he hasn't really made anything useful, just odd-shaped tools for the farm to try and make things easier. He has in the past traveled with his father, but prefers not to go far if he can help it. Also, Odin has wanted to confess his feelings to Sue for some time, and while they have talked for small amounts previously he still has been unable to do so. Something about her draws him towards the strange girl, but only time will tell what it is.
