The Official OtakuBoards Whine Day!
Odin M Yggdrasi replied to SunfallE's topic in General Discussion
I didn't even know this site existed untill a friend gave me the link. Perhaps those of us who are on other forums should add usebars to our profile so that others learn that this forum is here and active. Also having been actively foruming on anime and gaming forums for two years now I think the recent falloff is perfectly normal. People are busy again, school being in session and all. Around christmastime there will be a surge of activity from the holidays, and then activity will be at an all-time low in late winter and early spring. Late spring and towards summer though it will come back strong. I really don't think you guys are doing too bad maintaining this forum. -

Bad side effects OF Fanfiction and Watching anime
I have been forced to bare witness to the addictions of Fanfics and even sufferd from it once myself. It is for this reason I believe the there should be a surgeons general warning on all Fanfic sites. WARNING: MAY CAUSE PALE SKIN, INSOMINA, GLASSY EYES, EATING DISORDERS, ATTRACTION TO TERRIBLE WRITTING AND A GENRAL REFUSSAL TO LEAVE ONES COMPUTER! I'm starting the petion. Does anyone care to sign it for me? I've got cookies!
Anti-signed. I know of at least one excellent fanfic, spoofing Tales of Symphonia from start to finish. It was written from 2005-2006 by Zelos the Wolf at Namco's Tales Series Forum, in fact it was the reason I joined there way back. Since then there have been other excellent works by many authors. I even wrote my own at one point, while they might have been cheap on the storyline the spelling and grammar was still decent and could easily be reworked into something far better. -
For Halloween I'll probably go wearing my 'show' blacksmithing outfit, which uses a cowboy-style leather coat along with the deerhide apron I made, and jeans. My main RP character uses a similar style in Medieval and Western themed RPs, being that he also is usually a blacksmith. Probably should post a picture of it, since it is original for me I find most people don't recognize it unless I go to the same part of town two years in a row. Most years I will also carry a Kerosene Lantern and some of my work while in this outfit. I am making a second costume though, because of the AC3 Convention in early November. I plan on going to that as Syaoran from Tsubasa Chronicle. Actually just bought the cloth for the cape today, the rest of it I already have.

~Ruins of Thundering Irons Smithy, Knothole~ Having woken from the aftermath of the explosion, and discovered the destroyed town, the group at the crystal had started to split up to see if anyone or anything had survived. ?Well I suppose that?s the end of that. And here I thought I would have been able to keep a shop from burning down for a while.? The man who once was the village blacksmith remarked on seeing the scorched remains of his shop on the village?s main street. While the forge and its chimney still stood tall, scorched but repairable, the building that had once enclosed it was now nothing more than blackened stones, ash, and bent nails. Fortunately the Anvil had survived the fire, while it had lost its hardness from the heat Odin was skilled enough to correct that once the forge was repaired. He bent down and ran his fingers through the ash, several nails staying in his hand as the ash fell back to the streets once more. A whisper was heard on the wind, he was saying prayers for all those in this town who died during the accident. Moving towards where the anvil that had been used by his family for three generations lay on it?s side, near the mound of ash that once was the stump it rested upon, he set it upright on the table of the forge. Taking a hammer from the left side of his apron he tapped the steel face lightly, it rang out but was now somewhat off-key and dull. But at least it can be retempered, provided I make a new bellows so I can restart the forge. Being that I am the one who makes the tools for the others in town, I have to get something together so that we can fix what we find. He thought, setting the anvil back on the ground and seeing what of his house nearby survived the blaze. The house too, burned to the ground. More bent nails and scorched stones littered the place where his home once was. Something shining near the back wall of the basement caught his eye though, and climbing down into the burned pit to examine it he discovered his latch on the root cellar had held, it?s door protected against the fire by the coating of sheet metal that also shielded it from the damp and cold. Much to his surprise, the contents of the cellar had remained mostly intact- there was a small quantity of food, along with extra blankets, and a small bellows- while it would not enough to power the forge it would be enough to raise a campfire to forging temperature so he could make what was needed to repair the forge. There was also a lantern and an axe, all made by his father and stored in case of emergency. Climbing back up to the shop he looked up and down the street. Still dusty, still deserted. The only footprints in the soft ash that covered the ground like snow being his, and those who like him were at the crystal and now searching for survivors. Taking the bellows and axe from the basement, he brought them over to near where the forge was. Most of his tools had been made of iron, the ones in his apron were completely unharmed while the ones in his shop only needed to be retempered and maybe resharpened to be as good as new. Eventually he might sort the ashes to recover them for restoration, but for now there was a more pressing matter- that it seemed nobody else had survived, and that the group from the crystal needed to gather to discuss what they found, if anyone had found clues to how this happened or what to do about it. For the time being though, the situation was dire. The food in the root cellar would not hold out forever, and most of the crops in the fields were destroyed probably by the same force that destroyed the town. Already though, the soft thumping of an axe striking a piece of wood began to drift on the breeze, as Odin knew the importance of his role in the community wasted no time beginning to repair the forge. Once that was repaired, then he could once again like his ancestors had done make the tools and supplies needed to restore civilization. ~Raspberry bushes near the remains of the blacksmith?s shop and house~ Well it seems their blacksmith is wasting no time restoring function to his equipment, so he can contribute to the town?s repair. A shadowy female figure concealed in the thick bushes thought. Most of the bushes like this had wilted from the fires or even burned completely, yet this one was mostly unhurt and even still bore a few berries that were late ripening and missed the harvest. The woman inside could have easily hidden there for some time, supplied by the berries and the dew on the leaves, observing everything that happened to the destroyed town without being detected. I?d best report that some people survived. Surely these survivors will be of interest to Lord Darc.

~School Grounds, Computer Lab~ Odin nodded slightly as the cold fingers of darc the shinigami came near his neck, while he could not see darc he could most certainly feel his presence. It had always been like that for him, he was one of not so few who could sense a presence, or could listen carefully to a machine and tell you exactly what is wrong with it long before it actually broke. He shivered again from a reflex reaction to the cold feeling, but essentially ignored the presence that was about to touch him. Long ago he would have indicated he felt the presence, but since neither he nor anyone else could prove that there really was something there he had given that up because it caused him to be ridiculed for some time. The windows open on his computer continued to be managed quite well, and one opened and was used for a while- listing some information on mythical beings. A particular being caught Odin?s eyes, nobody knowing exactly what he was thinking, and he opened that link to a page showing different shapes and styles of shinigami gathered from fictions works throughout the centuries. Reading for a little bit before the presence moved away again, Odin hid a smile. Knowing full well that such things don?t exist outside fantasy worlds he found it interesting how people would imagine such a thing and then try to classify them and apply scientific method to them. ?Hey, they are saying that Bucky Phillips broke out of prison again. Last time he shot a cop, I hope they catch him for good this time.? Odin remarked, closing the information on shinigami and opening several new ones to continue searching for information on all sorts of things. ?Still nothing new on the hostage deal, I think that is pretty well done since the perpetrator is dead and the victims are mostly unharmed. They?ll probably reconstruct it and theorize and everything for the next few weeks, but I doubt we?ll see any more of it in the main news feeds? Most of the windows closed, leaving only a few of them continuing to search for relevant news to the club?s interest. The phone rang and Ayame told them who the first person they would be tracking would be. ?Takuo Shibuimaru?? Odin asked, a real smile appearing on his face without showing his teeth. There was a flurry of typing and mouse clicking from his direction as once more almost a dozen windows opened up, all searching for any clues and leads they may have on him.? The indicators on the network equipment in the corner of the room began to blink faster as others logged into a computer and began searching too, this time of day the school?s network would be quite fast since not many people would be using it. ?Well the newspapers have certainly done well tracking his activity. He?s got a whole list of minor crimes that any single one or even a few of them wouldn?t warrant anything more than a fine, along with the ones you mentioned. ? Odin remarked as his searching produced results. ?The computer you are at Ayame, is it the one connected to the projector? I can send you these links so we all can see them.?

Bad side effects OF Fanfiction and Watching anime
Odin M Yggdrasi replied to sayoeimomo's topic in General Discussion
Ok, I'm coming back to you now after a marathon read covering Death Note chapters 60-80. And definately, a good plotline is addicting, resulting in a zombie-mode. In fact after this post I'll probably read more of it. What I find interesting though is how I always want to know what happens next, but certain anime and manga series also will produce a certain mood- for example Death Note puts me in a mood suitable to mastermind RP plots. -

OOC: Why does it seem like we're still in danger of stalling? Still not enough going on. Possibly it would be to benefit to add material not present in the original mangas, such as some unrelated cases. And yes, I am rereading these mangas as we go along, I know exactly where we are. ______________________________________________________________________ ?You would think by now that the medics would have determined the cause of the heart attack, being that he has been dead for several hours now. Most interesting I think that they have not determined, or if they did figure it out haven?t said why.? Odin remarked as they started discussing what had happened. The tapping and clicking from the computer Odin was using was ceaseless and without missing a single beat, on screen it was apparent that several programs were being multitasked with an almost unnatural efficiency as the net was scoured for more information on this event. ?Nothing, absolutely nothing. Either the police are keeping tight mouthed about this ?sudden death? or it really was a coincidence.? Odin remarked as several of the windows on screen closed, a look of disgust on his face from the lack of information on this event. ?Well at least nobody in the building was hurt.? The typing and clicking continued, several new windows opening up to replace those that closed as several searches operated at once. ?You know Ayame-san, I might not be much use out on the streets, it just doesn?t fit me. I probably won?t be needing the equipment, since I will likely take on the information gathering and processing role working behind the scenes.? Came Odin?s next comment, still employing the computer to its full capacity searching for information

OOC: I was going to wait for everyone else to post, but since nobody else has made a post and we're still in a low spot I'll give it another push. As usual, arranged by IM with Momishin. ______________________________________________________________________ ~School Grounds, Computer Lab~ “Most of the time it isn’t the cops who do the high end heroics. A typical cop has never fired their gun outside the target range or even removed it from it’s holster, and the majority never even see action more intense than pulling over an elderly person who happened to be going a little faster than they should. Sometimes they do get involved in searching for fugitives, but most of the high end stuff is left to the Special Ops category of law enforcement.” Odin remarked in response to Ayame as people left the room. He made a mental note of Light’s reaction to that footage, though it was clear that he had seen it before as Odin had too something didn’t feel right about his reaction to seeing it. Ayaname was standing there staring blankly into space, it might seem unusual to some but really not as much as anyone would think. Odin turned on one of the computers and logged in, surfing to a news website to find out a little about the incident- light's reaction to seeing it being on his mind. Sue felt rather cold all ofa sudden, she looked up and saw you crimson eyes looking down at her. It was in the shape of a man, he had long jet black hair and wide demon wings. He put out a clawed hand to her chin and felt it. "Such a pretty girl you are... Don't go making friends or they'll die too..." He said with an evil smirk on his face. Then man slid his long thumb claw nail against her chin and a long red streak began to drip as he disappeared back into her dreams. She quickly covered her dripping chin and took out a tissue and held it to her face. She knew she was the only one who could see it, it must of been odd to see a girl get cut out of thin air. Unfortinately she wasn’t quick enough hiding it, Odin saw the blood that had fallen onto her lap and soaking through the tissue. “Are you alright Sue? How did you get cut just now?” He asked, picking up the box of tissues and setting it on a desk near her. Sue turned away from him, "I'm fine." “Alright. I just felt something cold, and then you got cut suddenly.” Odin answered. Turning back to the computer and his research, he started scribbling out a coded message for himself on a piece of printer paper. Strangely though, this particular message when written in code ended up looking like a form of abstract art, it was most peculiar how that had happened. “Just out of curiousity, what part of Misa’s studio do you work in?” He asked, without looking up from the various news feeds he had found on the recent hostage situation and without the tapping of his pencil against the paper missing a single beat. "I mostly just transfer things from one part to the other... you probably dont see me very much since Im always carring large boxes..." Sue said looking down at the floor, completely oblivious of what he was doing. “If I hadn’t seen you around a fair number of times I wouldn’t have recognized you. You probably don’t see me that often though, I’m usually up in the light rigging changing bulbs or rearranging the power connections to make specific patterns of lighting. Most of the time if you aren’t looking for me it’s as if I am not even there. Odin answered. He shivered slightly, the cold presence from before had returned.
Now if America would just get its **** together and ban guns...
It would be more efficient to ban the idiots that let guns fall into the hands of people who do not use them properly. More than once now I've had to shoot a wild critter that was threatening my family's herd or even one of us directly, the issues occur when people who don't know when and where to use them get their hands on them. I don't like guns either, but they do have their place and proper use. Also, I would like to point out Scotland, they banned guns and are now the most violent country in the world- because many a would be thief or rapist in other countries is deterred by the fact that his victim might just shoot back. Most criminals aren't going to bother legally obtaining a gun to use in a crime, but banning them would eliminate any chance of honest and law abiding citizens to defend themselves. Mostly it is a matter of instead of outright banning them, they need more efficient regulation of them- preferably a scheme that is less hassle for legitimate owners of them. I have no idea how many were in my high school, though being in a small town surrounded by farms it couldn't have been that many, and mine was one of the larger schools in the area.
That sounds like a violation of the Free Excercise Clause.
Probably is, and I never said they couldn't practice a religion. As long as they did not mention it during their campaign or while in office then they can practice it all they wish on their own time and still be a politician. Their beliefs will show in their policy and what they are for or against, the exact religion is irrelevant other than a name for it because it is merely the basis for their beliefs and not what they actually believe on a specific issue. For instance they may disagree with the doctrines of a church they are a member of on specific issues, and using a Religion as a blanket explanation for their policy will only distort the views of both themselves and the Religion they use in the eyes of the masses. Sorry, I tend to be a bit high conservative on issues like this, too many incidents in the past where a particular politician will 'convert' to a specific religion just for the purposes of attracting support, instances of that occurring go all the way back to Ancient Rome. And yes, I am more against the people that run around screaming believe or die than anything else regarding the subject of religion and politics. People can believe what they like, as long as they aren't hurting anyone by doing so.

There is a fine line between paranoia and general stupidity, and a lot of what happens these days crosses that easily. Though I do find it most interesting, all through high school I carried my pocketknife on my keychain and never once got called on it. Still carry it to this day. I do know I had things somewhat easier being in a school in a relatively rural area.

This thread is a contradiction- Separation of Church and State, and therefore it cannot exist. Also, in my experience religion and politics are taboo topics because they invariably degrade into fights. Maybe this forum is different though, we'll soon find out. I would like to toss out my opinion of politics and specifically politicians: It is a a choice between a thief, and a thief that lies about it. To answer your questions:
1 - Do you think it is appropriate for political candidates to talk about their religious beliefs as part of their political campaigns, or do you think this is not appropriate?
Absurd. Any that do mention religion or try to use it as a selling point for their campaign should be immediately removed from the running due to a violation of the separation of church and state. True some people would be more motivated to vote for a specific person because of it, but you will also get politicians who pretend to be religious just to get office, and after that never set foot in a church again
2 - Do you think it is appropriate for religious leaders to urge people to vote for or against a political candidate, or is that not appropriate?
Here's a funny matter, because while I consider it improper I see no reason why a holy person could not urge people to choose a certain leader, or debate the merits of a specific leader's policy with the clergy. As long as they do not become overly preachy saying "Vote for bush or go to hell" then I don't think it is a problem.
3 - Thinking about your vote for president next year, how important is it that a candidate SHARES your religious beliefs?
Not at all, and I find myself extremely apathetic to politics. As I said before, it is a choice between a Thief, and a Thief that Lies about it. I registered to vote senior year of high school like the rest of my class, and the only time I have actually voted since then is when the school budget was up (I opposed it like most people in town did). The fact is being in a primarily republican region in a state controlled by democrats, it doesn't really matter who I vote for and I really don't care who it is as long as it isn't some madman dictator.
4 - How important is it for a candidate to have STRONG religious beliefs, regardless of whether those beliefs are the same as yours?
I doubt I'd ever find one who shares the same beliefs as me anyway, since I am following a mix of several religions on a Roman Catholic base. But again, I really don't care. These politicians can promise the world and get away with it during their election campaign, but once they are elected they become like GW Bush and use the United States Armed Forces for their personal gain, and there is nothing we can do to stop them. Unfortunately, modern politics is corrupt to the core, and even with participating in the government a single average person stands little chance of changing that. Btw, reading material that some people might find interesting with regard to politics: The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli I have a strong suspicion that Bush is familiar with the concepts presented in this, it was originally written during the Renaissance and at the time the author was held as a corrupter of modern politics, while it seems to me that he merely documented and explained the corruption already present in the politics of the time. A lot of Bush's actions do make sense however when you consider the ideas presented in this.

OOC: Dialogue arranged by IM with Momishin. This is a fairly typical arrangement for the two of us, and later on you might see some multiple-page long posts between us. _______________________________________________________________________ “You’re definitely someone who works at the studio, though for the life of me I still don’t know your name.” Odin whispered as she hid her face and blushed, the pain that drained the color from his eyes frightening her. Turning to face Ayame again as Light walked in, he moved back a little to give Sue her space. Dammit, I’m going to have to deal with Light again. You’d think for once he would let me run the show, instead of always being ‘that kid that thinks he’s better than Light’. Odin thought as his rival entered the room. “So what has you interested in this?” Odin asked Sue, still keeping quiet so not to be overheard. It wasn’t usual for him to be outgoing to anyone, nor even talk to anyone because they would always compare him to Light or make some rude remark how Odin looked like a nerd while Light actually looked decent. Sue sat there for a few moments quietly before replying to him. He pushed the hair out of her face and turned towards Odin, "My name... my name......" She paused and looked down at the ground sadly. She did not want to tell him her name, what if he got striked down to? Everyone who has ever known her has died... She closed her eyes. "Sue." Odin’s eyes connected briefly with hers as she said her name, the soft brown eyes that most people would think are innocent in reality holding a pain even worse than his own. He looked away again, not wanting to scare her, but also to think about what he saw. “My name is Odin. I’d prefer if you called me ‘M’ though, since people seem to like comparing me to L.” Odin answered, still keeping down to a whisper as Ayaname started in on the club’s workings. Turning away some more, Sue wondered why he was talking to her. Why her? What was so interesting about her? If there was any interesting about her at all, it was that anyone who got close to her died. "Please move away from me." She said, it came out cold which she had not intended but she didn't want anyone else to get hurt. “Alright.” Odin whispered back, a defeated look on his face. There was something unusual about that girl, perhaps he had sensed a pain from her, but if she didn’t want to talk about it then it would be best to let it be. Looking around the room again as Odin moved back to where he was sitting before, he noticed that already some of the punks had bored looks on their faces, and he realized that the club size would be reduced by more than half after today.
