1. I was glancing around Adult Swim's website today and saw some pictures of it. The character designs look adorable! I feel like I could tell the type of show it'd be just by looking at the pictures, and I'm thinking it would be just what I would enjoy. I really wish I were in the States at the moment so I could watch it. But for now I suppose it'll be okay to live vicariously through the rest of you ... I suppose that was pointless except I got to complain about how they don't show anime on the four channels I get while here (New Zealand) ... :p
2.
Toboe ... irritates me that way that most "young, naive, seeking acceptance" characters tend to... I don't dislike him, though.
Exactly. Sometimes I wish all of those characters were eradicated from anime ... but then, I can't imagine the shows without them, either.
Even if [Tsume']'s cool and badass... I think I'd want to avoid talking to the guy as much as I could, you know?
Maybe, but I wouldn't mind just looking at him ... Have you noticed how the animators drew his stomach and back? He has like, those ... washboard abs and little muscle lines ... Well, anyway. I just finished off the series in the past couple of days ... or what I have of it at least. The last episode, 26, left me very unsatisfied, and my boyfriend discovered online that Bandai released four more episodes (27-30, or an OVA depending on who you listen to) to further flesh out the ending. I had never heard that before, and not having those last four episodes is making me want to tear out my fingernails. But I'll practice patience, because I will be getting my hands on those episodes at some point ... If nothing else, AS will eventually show them and by then I'll be back in the States to watch. Anyway, I really enjoyed the storyline of what I did have, though I'm glad there are four more episodes out there for the ending because 26 really leaves too much in the air. I mean, all the plots are wrapped up ... sort of ... but there's definitely more to be said. So I'm very eager to see what the other shows contain. What was most disappointing was that episodes 15-18 were (this won't spoil any storyline, but I figured I'd put it in spoilers just in case)
pretty much just a summary of the first fourteen episodes. Not only that, but they completely reused a ton of the animation from the previous episodes; when we put in episode 16, my boyfriend summed it up with the sarcastic slogan, "Now with 3% new footage!" It was really awful, and ironic considering they eventually decided they needed exactly four more episodes to finish up the story. Trust me, you can completely skip 15-18 and you won't have missed anything.
Considering the high quality of everything else, that really disappointed me. But still. Good series. WHERE ARE YOU, EPISODES 27-30!?

Troy

I feel like though the movie didn't follow anything except the most basic plotline of its source, it still worked very well. They highly exaggerated Agamemnon's greed, since he's never that bad of a guy in the Iliad. But it's more acceptable to be able to see the good and bad in both sides when you're reading; when you're watching a movie, you want someone to root for, and they accomplished that by making Agamemnon into a complete jerk. Of course, they also gave Achilles many more redeeming qualities in the movie (i.e. Briseis) than Homer gave him. In the Iliad he's basically never redeemed, so
his death is okay, whereas when he dies in the movie it's heartrending (or supposed to be, at least, and hey it worked on me)
. Again, though, I think the changes were okay, since it added to the cinematic and epic quality in a way that works much better for a movie than a book. And sure, Brad Pitt doesn't look particularly Greek, but I still think he was casted quite well. He pulls off the whole "I may be an a******, but I'm a skilled a******" thing better than most other actors I can think of. I suppose what I'm basically saying is that true, they changed a great deal of the story, but the majority of it has probably been changed enough from the original "history" anyway that it doesn't matter too much. They ended up creating a movie that was epic in feel, and that seems to me to be what they set out to accomplish. I really liked it, and have more to say ... but I plan to see it a second time, so maybe I'll come back here too :p.
4.
Toboe is so[/i'] cute. I can already tell that he's going to be my favorite of the show's four main characters ...
Really? I hate him. Well, I don't hate him, he's adorable, but the whole time I'm watching I'm just thinking, "Don't do that -- don't be so stupid -- don't -- ahhh!!!" Admittedly, he's young, but he's one of those anime characters that has no common sense. In one of the episodes (no real spoiler here), two of the other characters are like, "Why didn't you _______?!" and he's like, "Hmm ... that would've been a good idea ..." Then again, most anime features multiple characters who all have no common sense, so I suppose one Toboe isn't bad. Anyway, I really enjoy the series so far. I think my favorite thing about it, besides the fact that the storyline is linear because I far prefer that to episodic, is the background music, which has already been mentioned. A lot of the time it's so subtle, and it's those tiny touches that really add to the effectiveness of many of the scenes.
5. Hi Rokumi, It is immediately apparent that you haven't read pretty much any of the rules for OtakuBoards. One of these is no double posting (posting twice in a row); the other is that RPGs should have Recruitment threads and a good, detailed back story. Please read both the general rules for OtakuBoards and the stickies at the top of the Adventure Arena forum before posting here again. Thanks, and welcome to OB. --terra
6. Hi GoldScorpion78, Welcome to the Adventure Arena. I suggest you read the stickies at the top of the forum, which list the requirements for a Recruitment thread, including an extensive backstory and a signup sheet (to discourage people from signing up with spam posts such as "I'll be Will!"). Please work on your first post, adding a little more content to the RPG, or it'll have to be closed. Thanks, --terra
7.
Anyway, I have a question of my own. How do you add a border to an image using photoshop? I've been doing it the long way by pasting the picture inside another larger pure black picture (or some other color).
The way I always do it is to 1. select the whole picture (using CTRL-A or whatever), 2. creating a new layer, 3. going to edit --> stroke. Stroke basically outlines whatever you have selected, and you can pick the color and width you'd like. No idea on any of the other questions :D.
8. Hi JuliasPeach, Sorry, but this RPG doesn't quite fulfill the requirements of RPGs in this forum, such as having a backstory and plotline. For more details, please refer to the stickies at the top of the forum, which explain the general procedures for the Adventure Arena. I'm going to close this, but if you wish to start the RPG again with a backstory and signup sheet, feel free to do so in the Recruitment forum. You can also PM me or Arcadia if you have any questions. Welcome to OB. --terra
9. artmasta, I'd advise you to please read the stickies at the top of this forum. New RPGs have certain requirements for what they should include, and one of those requirements is an extensive backstory of at least a couple paragraphs. Please add a backstory to this RPG, otherwise it will be closed. Welcome to the forums. --terra
10. During the conflict, Terra had been edged upstairs, avoiding beams from Dr. Light. Yelling aloud, she caused the ground underneath him to shake, and the stairs crumbled apart, leaving him teetering on the edge of one of them. Just as she was about to deliver another shake to make him fall, though, an ear-piercing screech that echoed through the club caused her to lose concentration. That moment was enough for Dr. Light to leap towards her, grinning horribly, and shoot a light beam directly at her. She leapt up the last five steps to duck behind a pillar, but not quite quickly enough -- Dr. Light's beam caught her in the right leg, and she couldn't stop herself from whimpering in pain. Gaining a brief respite behind her temporary shelter, she glanced around her and gritted her teeth to see the three Titans battling Slade's metal-winged henchman. Falcon was a force to be reckoned with, those metal wings were terrifying. Studying them a little more closely, she realized there were spikes loaded into those wings, spikes that could shoot out and -- As if she had had some sort of precognition, the spikes suddenly did shoot out, directly towards her friends. Without thinking, Terra leapt off the second floor towards the fray, ignoring the beams of Dr. Light and invoking her power. A huge dirt wall barrelled through the floor of the club in front of her friends and she landed just behind it on the same side as them, rather unsteadily because of her wounded leg. Though the wall was so densely packed it was like a rock, Falcon's spikes still embedded themselves all the way through it, and Terra was standing so close behind the wall that one jutted out just past her elbow. She had to admit she was terrified, knowing he was just beyond a pile of dirt, but she forced herself to put on a brave face for the other Titans anyway.

Hi Johnny_Mako, and welcome to the forums. A PM is a Private Message, which is sort of like e-mail within the forums that individual members can send to each other. Unborn Lord Xion rightly requested you PM him questions instead of posting here, because we try to avoid cluttering up Recruitment threads with conversations between individuals. Basically, if you have a question that could be handled privately, please do so rather than posting here. As for information on how games in the Adventure Arena are played, I'd advise you to look around at the other games going on in the Arena. Most games are basically collaborative story-writing efforts in which each person mainly controls one character. If you have any further questions, feel free to PM me or the creator of any RPG you're participating in. You can PM a member by clicking on his/her name above a post, and choosing "Send a private message to ___". --terra
12. From this first section, Matthias seems almost too clueless and nice, and Mercutio seems too typically the bad guy. What I mean is, the two characters fall perfectly into the stereotypes we have of the unsuspecting hero and the jealous brother. Of course, it's not very long right now so you haven't had time to develop a lot of characterization, I'm just letting you know what I think. In general I think your narrative sections are much stronger than your conversation ones. The conversations seem a little stilted, and not quite like they could happen in real life. You might want to try reading them out loud to yourself and seeing if you and your friends would ever sound like that. The back story part is written well, though. And I'm wondering what will happen next, so I want to read on, too :).
13. terra Melanie On most girls the flippy little skirt and knee-high boots that Melanie was wearing would've looked trashy. On Melanie, they looked ... well, they still looked pretty trashy, but she wore them with the air of the only girl in school who could pull it off without getting sent home for being a whore. Though not without a few incidents, Melanie thought grimly to herself as they passed Mr. Belman, who eyed the skirt and cleared his throat loudly. "Melanie Stones, may I see you in my classroom for a second?" Melanie sighed a second before she turned around, and the other two -- that's how she always thought of them, "the other two" who-were-with-her-every-second-and-were-undoubtedly-her-incredibly-stupid-best-friends-and-lackeys -- giggled behind their hands. "Uh-oh, Melanie, somebody's skirt is more than three inches above the knee," Brenda said, referring to their student dress code. "When is my skirt not more than three inches above the knee?" Melanie said under her breath to them, getting another giggle before she strode into Mr. Belman's room. Flicking through her mind to her imaginary files on each of the teachers, she remembered that Mr. Belman was an idiot and should be handled as such. He was standing behind his desk when she entered, and she waited. "Melanie, I believe that skirt is a little, er ..." Mr. Belman looked a little uncomfortable as he glanced down at the skirt again, hiding just enough of Melanie's thighs to prevent her from being arrested for public indecency when she walked home. "It's a little bit shorter than the school's regulations, don't you think?" "Oh, really?" Melanie said, feigning innocence and putting her hands on his desk to lean over slightly and give him a fair look down her shirt. The shirt was perfect for her purposes -- low-cut, but just so that you could only see down it in certain positions when she needed that advantage. "I had no idea ..." "Erm, well, it is ..." Mr. Belman cleared his throat. Melanie rolled her eyes. And she could do it without fear of reprove, since his eyes were focused rather below her face. "I'm so sorry," Melanie drawled. "But you know, Mr. Belman, our cheerleading are just the same length as this, and we're allowed to wear those in the hallways on spirit days." "Yes, but you have those ... those shorts underneath, don't you?" Melanie noted that the poor guy's cheeks were turning bright red from talking about this with her. May as well take advantage of it. "Well, you can't ever really know what I'm wearing underneath, can you?" Thirty seconds later Melanie was out the door and heading for her second class of the day. That had been almost too easy. Then again, she reminded herself, not many teachers were quite as stupid as Mr. Belman.
14. Not that I don't love my mother, but I've always thought Mother's and Father's Day are two of the dumbest holidays around ... *waits for mothers to throw rocks at her* But really, even if/when I'm a mother I would still think it's a Hallmark/florist marketing opportunity. Not that I would really stop my kids from getting me presents ... but I wouldn't be offended if they didn't. That being said, my brother and I sent my mom flowers. Well, he sent them, but my name is on the card :D. I sound really cynical, huh.
15. I've been wondering what the definition of "extreme sports" is. I mean, according to the bungy jumping company ad, bungy jumping is an extreme sport, but I really wouldn't consider it a sport at all ... it's just jumping off something while you're attached to something else. I did end up going, by the way, and I'm still alive. It was really incredibly freaking scary. I cannot stress that enough ... and it was definitely way scarier than skydiving. (If you want to hear more about it, I wrote a myO post on it.) Rock climbing/bouldering sounds really fun. I've had a little experience with it, but not much. BMX also seems really fun, but I don't think there's any way I could ever do it, I'd be too afraid of falling. Once I went mountain biking (I think I'm getting a little rambly here) and it scared me to death. I'm just freaked out to go that fast, because I just keep thinking I'll fall. Heck, I won't even slide across the floor in my socks because I think I'll fall ... Yes, yet jumping off a bridge is okay, I know, it's not the best logic ever.
16. OOC: Sorry it took me a while. Kid Flash reported what Robin had said, and Terra nodded, "I'll take him to the hospital right away." Then she glanced down at the boy and hesitated. "What is it?" Kid Flash asked. "Uh, I don't think I can pick him up, and I don't exactly want to tear up the city by moving the Earth under him the whole way there," Terra admitted. "I'll get him with you," Beast Boy offered, and the four of them split up. It seemed a little odd to be walking through the streets like normal teenagers for a little while -- Beast Boy had thought about changing to some big animal to carry their charge, but Terra convinced him it would be a little scary if he woke up in the arms of a bear or something -- but it was kind of a nice change, as well. And of course, Terra didn't mind walking with Beast Boy, who was being uncharacteristically quiet. "What do you think this guy's story is?" Terra ventured after a short while. Beast Boy shrugged. "I don't know, but I guess Robin had a good impression of him. He did ask him to join the team after the first fight. And he was pretty helpful then, so he can't be all bad. I wish we could just take him to the Tower, it's a heck of a lot closer ..." Terra laughed. "I have to admit, he might be a good guy, but I'm kind of glad we're not just taking him back automatically," she said. "I mean, who knows? Maybe it was all staged so someone could get in." She fell silent thinking of Slade. They had reached the block of the hospital, and a passing doctor did a double take when he saw them. "Oh my God, is your friend all right?" he said. "Let me run and get some help --" Shortly afterward, Michael was lying in a hospital bed, looking frail but peacefully asleep. "He'll be fine, but he probably won't wake up for a couple of hours," one of the attending nurses told them. Terra and Beast Boy looked at each other. "I can stay until he wakes up," she said automatically. "I'll stay with you," Beast Boy offered. "No, you should go back to the Tower," she said, masking her reluctance to see him leave. "It sounded like Robin had something important for us to talk about, and as many of us should be there as possible. I'll just make sure he's all right and then I'll come back as quickly as possible." After a second, Beast Boy nodded quickly, and left Terra to watch TV by the hospital bed.
17. I'm in New Zealand at the moment, and over Easter break (a couple weeks ago) we went to Queenstown, which calls itself the center (centre, I suppose) for "extreme sports" in New Zealand. There, I went tandem skydiving for the first time -- which involved being strapped to an experienced skydiving instructor and allowing him to force me to jump out of a plane from 9000 feet. Together, we went through about a 20-second freefall, then the parachute opened and we paraglided down for another five or six minutes. It cost me $245 NZ (which is about $160 American) and it scared me to death. But it was amazingly fun, and my friend and I are thinking of driving to another skydiving place some weekend so we can do it again :). Tomorrow, she and I are going bungy jumping off the Auckland Harbor (... Harbour, technically) Bridge. I'm a little apprehensive, because this time I'll actually have to do the jumping myself, and I've heard the feeling is really different from skydiving ... Anyone here ever bungy jumped before, or is interested in doing it someday? Or done any other "extreme sports" they want to share?
18. Ha, I feel extremely cool because I do recognize those bosses. :P Oh wait ... no. Anyway, FFII was definitely my favorite of the early Final Fantasy games, and it might actually be my favorite of all the Final Fantasy games ... (yeah, I'm one of those people). So I'll definitely pick this up if/when it does come over to the States.
19. Gecko, conversation like that should be restricted to PMs wherever possible. PMing your concern to the creator of the RPG instead of posting it in a Recruitment thread would be much appreciated, and then vicky could take care of it as she wished. Thanks. Anyway, I like Teen Titans ... I've never actually seen one with Terra in it, so let me know if I've done anything wrong. Name: Terra Code-Name: Terra Age: 16 Side: Teen Titans ... she's pretty sure at least ... Powers/ Abilities: She has earth-moving abilities; that is, she can move anything made out of earth, such as mountains, rocks, and even the ground beneath your feet. (Watch out.) Gadgets: None (I think.) Description: http://www.imagetown.net/images/89693320.jpg http://wf.toonzone.net/WF/teentitans/bios/terra/03.jpg Personality: Terra is very shy most of the time, but also very sweet. She has a good heart but is very unsure of herself, so she often doesn't speak up even though she'd like to. She gets along with most people, but doesn't always agree with Raven. Weakness: Though Terra thought at one point she had her powers under control, she still doesn't have a very firm grasp on them. This leads her attacks to be a little unpredictable. In addition, she's very aware of the fact, and so second-guesses herself and is often extremely nervous during fights. Small Bio: Terra was born with her powers, as evidenced when as a four-year-old she uprooted the tree outside her house and ruined their garage. When she was twelve, the emotions evoked from a fight with her parents made her involuntarily cause a small earthquake in her house, turning it into a split-level and severely injuring them both. Freaked out (understandably) and hoping to prevent herself from hurting her beloved parents anymore, Terra ran away, surviving on her own in the streets of cities for a few years (less visible earth around, so she hoped her powers wouldn't come out as often). Eventually she found the Teen Titans, who promised to help her control her powers, and felt some feelings for Beast Boy (though both were too shy to really do anything about it). After telling Beast Boy the secret that she couldn't always control her powers, she thought he betrayed her and so turned to Slade for help. She battled against the Teen Titans with Slade, but was turned to stone. Some time later, the Teen Titans were able to revive Terra, and asked her to rejoin their team. She agreed, but still feels as if the team may not fully trust her, as she did after all at one point betray them ...
20. Unborn Lord Xion, you can always report questionable things using the "Report Post" button. Supplementing that with a post in the thread you're reporting is unnecessary, so please don't feel the need to do that in the future. That being said, Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments are ... well, I don't know if there was ever a distinct decision on them, but I somehow doubt it's a good idea. Your first post isn't very clear on your intentions, though, so I really don't know what to say. RPGs should have some sort of back story, whereas battle tournaments with no storyline can go into the Battle Arena. However, I don't think a YGO tournament would fit in the battle arena, as they generally end up sort of being just people putting down cards in short, spam-type posts. I'm not going to close this in case you wanted to add a real storyline to it, but if not, I may have to close it in the future. Feel free to PM me to discuss what would qualify as an actual RPG in this forum. --terra
21.
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel Most girls who don't know much about games don't seem to care about graphics whatsoever. 22. Aissa sat staring at the flickering fire, allowing her mind to blank entirely, hoping it might help zone out the pain. It wasn't an intense pain by any means, but her entire body still throbbed numbly now and again, something she had the feeling wouldn't be fading for quite some time. It took effort even to glance over at Leile, who was sleeping in a fetal position that Aissa found strangely compelling. The girl was so courageous that the sight of her in such an infantile position was touching. Pulling her mind back from its quietude, Aissa stood, adjusting to the soreness the movement caused her. As empathetic as she usually was, she didn't even want to imagine how Anubis must feel at the moment, though he seemed much more accustomed to dealing with pain than she was. "I'll be right back," she said aloud, not even sure if Anubis was awake to hear her, and she slipped out into the corridors of the palace. As she knelt on the ground she sensed a presence behind her and whirled to see a familiar tall silhouette. "What are you doing out here," Anubis said, though his tone contained none of its usual high-brow edge. "Looking for mugs," Aissa replied, and heard her own voice lacking the usual sharp defensiveness she usually reserved for Anubis. There was a small exhaling from Anubis that might've been amusement. "None of us should be wandering around alone at the moment. What do you need mugs for?" "Um, I wanted to make some tea," Aissa admitted, holding up the chipped mugs she'd found sheepishly. Moments later they were back in the room with a still curled-up Leile, Aissa heating the water over the fire. She didn't know why tea had suddenly struck her as a good idea, as she wasn't even particularly thirsty; there was just such a calming effect to the drink, and she needed something to do. "Leile seems impatient to go," Anubis said, as if picking up on her thoughts. "I am, too," Aissa said honestly, crushing some herbs into two of the mugs she'd found. "If for no other reason, to get out here. But I'm in no condition to travel at the moment. Let alone find a boat in all of this." "Perhaps a boat will find us," Anubis said. "That would be convenient," Aissa agreed, "but not that many cruises I know make special trips out to abandoned islands these days, particularly not cursed ones." The water bubbled, and Aissa poured it into their mugs, offering one to Anubis. There was plenty of water for Leile as well, if she woke up. Anubis took a sip tentatively. "This is actually very good." Aissa ignored his word choice and nodded her thanks. "My brother and I developed this plant ourselves. Together we've got quite a marvelous herb garden." "What other strange herbs have you got growing?" Aissa laughed at the implication, choosing not to answer. In fact, Arland had insisted that they grow a certain mind-altering substance that they'd enjoyed together once in a while ... but nobody needed to know about that. Besides, the herb had medicinal purposes, as well. She inhaled the soothing aroma of the tea, trying to think of the best wording possible to ask about something she'd wanted to know for quite some time now. "Anubis ... what is your history with the university?"
23. Hi jroc, I understand your desire to make things simple, but you need a little more detail on your back story. RPGs should have as detailed as possible story behind them, as it gives them more direction and shows that you've really taken the time to think out what will happen. You should check the sticky at the top of the forum if you haven't had time to yet; it gives some guidelines for the forum that are important to know. Please add to your back story, either in a new post or by editing your first one. Welcome to OB. --terra
24. You know, this isn't technically a gaming moment, but I'm frustrated right now and it has gaming involved so I'm writing it down anyway. My brother bought me a GameBoy Advance SP maybe four weeks ago. A week ago, I LOST it. I can almost swear I remember taking it out of my purse (I'd been using it for the commute to work) so that I wouldn't have to take it to the movies, and putting it down in my (very small) living room. And then the next day, it was gone. Where is it?? I'm nearly sure it's in my house, because where else would it be? I could've left it on the train, but I don't think I did. GRR! Worse yet, Wario Ware was in it, with all of my and my brother's high scores :( :( :(.
25. This forum gets a lot of action. Anyway, Noelle, since you didn't actually pick a banner so I could attach it, I'll just assume you like the one I liked best and attach the second one. (I agree, by the way, the third one seems a little off, but I figured I'd give you options.) So Noelle, your banner's attached ... Metatron, who turns out to be fairly nice when he's not whipping your back for a banner, requested this Evangelion thingy which may or may not meet his standards. All the text in the background is part of his request, by the way. It's actually a nice quote ... but the people take up most of the banner. Metatron, if you want anything changed, or want me to try a different approach, let me know; otherwise, tell me which banner you like best and I'll attach it. (Although, they're all *really* similar. It's one of those figure-out-what-the-differences-are things.) I tried to pick pictures with expressions closest to those you showed me, but it wasn't always easy.
