  1. Hm, for such fans none of you have played the FM4 demo? Square was (is?) mailing out demo copies of FM4 and I got my hands on one. Its a pretty fun game, I haven't really played any of the others of the series ever, but I had a lot of fun with the demo. It had 6 or 7 levels on it, and in the game you play out scenarios with two different groups. Basically the blonde woman is one, and the black-haired guy is the other. I can imagine that their stories coincide somehow in the end. I was suprised at the dpeth the demo had, you could customize your Wanzer and they give you unlimited $ to do so. After that it was all blowing off arms and destroying helicopters and such. One thing that I really liked is that if you have an enemy surrounded your allies will give support fire on your target even when its not your turn. It adds a little more strategy comapred to just exchanging blows. Other things I thought were cool was that one character had an EMP backpack that could disable the attack systems of other Wanzers or their movement. Another guy had a radar backpack that could call in and let you fire really long distance missles, even from way outside the normal range. The voice acting is good, and the CG video opening was amazing. I can imagine getting a lot of gameplay out of this game.
  2. I'm not going to come up with an obscure character or anything, but my favorite is Cloud. The look was great, but I liked him because he was really messed up in the head as well as heroic. He overall had one of the more disturbing pasts which was sort of in conflict with him being the heroic leader. I think he was also the last tough looking main character, which can really help define the character when they don't have that much dialogue.
  3. I'd be happy if all they did was put out zelda games! Wow this does look insane though...I really would've thought that they would make the sequel similar to Wind Waker, but I'm glad they didn't. Hopefully Link has a lot of cool moves in this one, kinda like the Soul Calibur game. Maybe thats what inspired this more realistic tough Link?
  4. Porn counts as explicit right? Um...I have a toy collection that can easily put to shame any kid in the neighborhood and I'm 23. Picture shelves full of transformers and DBZ figures and a whole bunch of other stuff. I'm not really embarrassed about it though. I think the real secret one is dancing to music. I dance like a fool to my stereo when nobody is around. I'd never dare to do it around even my wife.
  5. ...If you don't like Bball, you should probably just not post here. I don't care who wins as long as it is NOT the Lakers. Mostly I don't like them becuse they won enough already, Shaq is a big annoying baby, and the whole thing with Malone and Payton coming to LA just to try to win a championship. I was rooting for the Buck's, even though I knew they didn't have a chance. They're a great shooting team, but have no defense. You really need some D to get anywhere, but at least they made it to the playoffs. Now I'm hoping for Sacramento, I like all the international players on their team. Who couldn't like Vlade?
  6. Yeah I like the difference form the cliche super-character, and I've liked all the characters too. The outfits though...Cloud was simple and tough looking, Squall was still mostly cool looking but had more jewelry and a furry coat. Zidane was goofier, but that fit the character and the game's look entirely. Tidus was really dressed fruity, even though it worked because he was a glitzy blitzball player from the past. Its definitely a progression. The new guy (Vaan) really looks super feminine though. They've pulled it off to this point with every character, so I imagine he'll be cool.
  7. Yeah, I'm pretty much the only person who thought it sucked, so maybe more people agreed with you than you're saying. I remember maybe only one other post on this thread that agreed with me.
  8. Is it just me or is the male main character getting fruitier and fruitier every time around? At least clothing wise...I liked Tidus but he definitely was the wussiest main character so far.
  9. Contra for NES is amazingly fun, and you have to watch each others back. Its also good if you want to kill off the other player you can rush through levels and kill the other person by advancing the screen too far. Oh, and steal lives! You'd have to have played it. Twisted Metal 2 was the coop game that I played the most ever. You always ran out of weapons fast and had to ram cars around (I used Axel for the max effect). It's the best TM game on playstation by far, and a blast even though the graphics are pretty poor nowdays. Somehow it was OK to be able to turn your car around in midair too. Tecmo bowl in all of its incarnations, and the EA hockey games 94-98 while it was still on genesis and super nintendo are the most fun sports games. They were simple enough that you didn't have to know anything about hockey to play, and I lived for the occasional fights. I forget which year, but the Tampa bay lightning had three or four guys with 90-100 fighting rating (they were also slow and shot crappy) and I would beat my friends into submission with them and usually win the game too!
  10. For nostalgic value, there's really nothing better than the real NES. Why would I play Zelda on a little tiny screen when I can play at home on a big TV? If I bought this GBA version it would probably just collect dust like my regular advance does. The games should come bundled too, one NES game just isn't worth much anymore. They ought to make a Gamecube disc with 30 games on it, or do collections of Konami games, or all the nintendo games or something like that.
  11. I think its a real stretch of the imagination to try and put all of those stories in one timeline. There are very few logical fits to go between the stories. I think they are best considered on their own, not being on the same planet.
  12. This is like chiming in to the same tune, but I agree, X is better than X-2. I Liked X-2, but not as much as the other FF games. Usually I play through the first time without any help from guides or the internet and then get the Strategy Guide and play through getting all the stuff I missed. In X-2 I lost my motivation the second time around. That is the first time that's ever happened. It is still a great game, and I'm very glad that it wasn't too much like Final Fantasy X. Just the supreme girliness of it, and all the costume changing is fantastic. They should have put in a DDR-like minigame and it would have fit in perfectly. It wasn't very challenging, and the missions weren't that great because there weren't enough new areas. I think they could have done more with the story too, like let you play through part of the game as Lenne in the past, something similar to VIII.

    N-Gage QD

This is definitley an improvement over the last one, but I still just know that it is going to bomb. Its a good thing that Nokia has a ton of money to waste, because the best thing that is going to happen for them is maybe using some of the N-Gage software on their real phones or something. Should they give the new ones out free for any sucker who paid $300 for the last peice of junk? That seems fair to me.
  14. I think that Fox purposely kills shows that it doesn't like unless they're huge ratings winners. ABC did the same thing to the Clerks cartoon, they showed episodes out of order so that the flashbacks to previous episodes were for episodes that didn't air yet. Freaks and Geeks was one of the best shows ever, and they moved it around so much that I couldn't figure out when it was going to be on week to week. Thats why it got cancelled. I still watch a few great shows, including anything new on Cartoon Network (the last smart network as far as programming) Smallville is great, I really like Everwood even though its depressing because its realistic. I really like Chapelle's Show (WHATT!) and I watch Survivor every odd season or so. I hate that I watch Real World but I do anyway and thats about it. I still get pissed everytime I see a Simpsons episode from the last few seasons, because its just that horrible!!!
  15. Thats milking it for sure, they've already released 1 and 2 for playstation and now they're remaking them again? Obviously I'd rather see a new story that would appeal more to us oldies that played the first one on NES, but at least it will add to the good GBA games. Its hard to see the game from the small pictures on the scan, but I wonder just how far they will redo it. New dungeons would be cool, if you don't have a map some of the old dungeons just have you wandering around too much and get frustrating. I don't think I'll buy these games when they come out though, unless they're really a vast improvement. I'm sure they will sell well though.
  16. I knew you'd have some crazy amounts of gear, Semjaza. I love hearing about this stuff. I'm still holding out that someone has a Turbographics 16, or a Jaguar. As an add-on to my post, the best gaming setup I ever had going was three TV's in my apartment living room. I had the big center TV with playstation hooked up, then TV's in each corner on the opposite wall, with NES and Sega genesis + super nintendo; respectively. That was the year I played Contra until me and my pal could beat it on 2p without dying once.
  17. I'm going to have to guess that this isn't particularly original, but I haven't seen a thread about it specifically. Pretend like you are filling out one of those warranty cards, what I want to know is what game consoles you have. Throw in how many games you have for each if you can/want to. If you have multple systems, then where are they set up (all on one TV, not hooked up, seperate TV's) No computers, unless you're talking about emulators. I've got (starting by age) Nintendo Entertainment System: I bought it off ebay with a new card for reading games and its clean and works great. I've got the original zapper gun, a regular controller and the NES Advantage (its like an arcade steup with big buttons and you set it on your lap) I think I have about 30 games, all my originals from when I was a kid were lost by my older brother. Gameboy: The original puke colored clunker, never see's the light of day. Sega genesis: I love my Sega, but its sitting in a box because there's no room for it. I have a bunch of games (20), Landstalker and Shining force were my fav's. Playstation: My first PSX broke down from overheating, so I have one of the cool newer white ones, which is sleek, small, and useless now because of the PS2. I have a big game library 50+, including Final Fantasy 1-9 (except the GB one). I still play some of the games on my PS2, sepecially the old FF games which I just got recently. PS2: The pride and joy of the console world, I play it every day an have 40 games or so. I have the eyetoy, but no network adapter just yet. Its hooked up to the Big screen in my living room. Gamecube: The runty brother to my PS2, hooked up to the same TV but see's little use. I bought it for Metroid and Zelda, and only have about 7 games for the cube total. I really like it, but it can't compete with PS2. game boy advance: Ths one's strictly for plane rides and road trips, which is why i still haven't beaten any of the games I have for it. I have 8 games, and I play the Castlevania ones mostly. Its great for 2hr trips to Portland when I don't have to drive. There you go!
  18. HA! Did anyone happen to catch Witch Hunter Robin on adult swim last night? The series ended Tuesday, and they repeated the very first episode. What was interesting was that they added moustaches (bad spelling) to the characters throughout the show. I have it on tape now! I don't think anyone has ever done anything like this on TV, it freaked me out before I realized it was April Fools day. Inuyasha and Big O had staches too, but I went to bed before Cowboy.
  19. I've never played paper mario, or mario RPG for that matter. What was paper mario like? I really have no idea about the gameplay or anything, but the new one looks really cool. Maybe if you don't feel like describing it you can link to a review or something?
  20. Camp Kill Yourself=CKY I really like the CKY video's and pretty much think they are hilarious. There are a few things in the Jackass/CKY stuff that disturb me though. Poor Johnny Knoxville...I think Jackass the movie was the worst for him and I'm glad he quit the show. The bean bag gun and the Butterbean part just made me feel awful for the guy. Those stunts were more on the disturbing side than funny. In CKY where they tested the bulletproof vest was the same. Disturbing stuff. Pretty much all the rest of it is great though, anyone peeing on their dad in bed is just classic comedy!
  21. Kicking it NES style: Karate Champ: This game is like a karate tournament where you score points with succesful hits, and its terrible! The control is bad and I usually end up facing the wrong direction trying to kick. There is so little to this game that atari games put it to shame with their depth. Playstation: Simpsons Wrestling: Ugh, I wish I waited for reviews on this one...it seemed too good to be true and it was. Even using Willie and bashing people with rakes wasn't fun for more than 2 minutes. You could coast the whole game with Apu anyway. Its just terrible!
  22. If you actually look, you'll see that Duck Hunt was mentioned more than once. Try to add new games.
  23. Metroid: Definetely one of the best NES games. I think metroid was the best of the 2D games where you jump from platform to platform through levels. It was open-ended and you could get weapons and beat bosses in any way you could manage. It also had a female hero, which may have been a big deal at the time. I think Metroid was a pretty good balance of frustration and fun; it wasn't too hard or too easy. I just beat it for the first time a month ago, damn you mother brain! Metal Gear: This game was just cool! You could sneak around and hide from guards and cameras, get a bunch of weapons, let yourself get captured,...there were a ton of things that were really revolutionary to the NES. The storyline was cool, with the guy walking you through the game starting to give you bad advice and try to get you killed. Then you find out he's the Big Boss (great name) you fight in the end. It had all kinds of cool equipment like remote missles and Oxygen tanks, a compass, land mines, cigarettes! The second game was a bit of a disappointment to me, but I really love this game. It parallels Metal gear solid almost completely if you've played both.
  24. Jackal is great, I loved when you rescue a bunch of hostages and get blown up, and they fly all over and the second player can steal them. Kung Fu: For some reason this is one of the games I never get tired of. It only has five levels of side scrolling, with a boss at the end of each and endless streams of people trying to hug you to death. It doesn't really matter much though, I never run out of fun playing it. I've managed to beat it through 4 times once, after you win your girlfriend gets captured by faster bad guys. The hardest part of the game is the wizard. he's the boss of the 4th floor and is a real pain. You can kick his head off of his body, but he grows it back uninjured! Bad Dudes: The game is actually pretty bad, the the opening line is: The president has been captured by Ninja's Are you a bad enough dude to rescue the president? That opening nominated it for me.
  25. Hoping that some of you are old enough to have had a nintendo (8-bit) or maybe just played on emulators. What I want this thread to be about is the best NES games; and tell a little bit about them and why you liked them. Do as many as you want. (try not to repeat what others have already listed) Some of the Classics I'll get out of the way: The legend of Zelda: This was a great game for nintendo. The levels weren't linear, so you could go wherever you could manage. It was challenging enough without being too frustrating. The music was ok, where basically anything that wasn't super-annoying could be considered good for nintendo. Zelda really set a standard for NES games that few lived up to. You could increase your health, had a bunch of useful weapons and tools and there was a bunch of secret places you had to find. I can still play this game today and be happy doing so. Contra: This is one of my all-time favorites. playing 2player coop, where you can work together well, or just try to jump so that the other player falls through the bottom of the level and dies. If you do that though, the 2P controller can affect the jumping of the first...and he can steal your lives too! None of the later Contra games were as good as the first. No story, you just drop down and start shooting until your hand gets tired and you destroy some evil alien brain thing. The spread shot was the best weapon, but I liked the Laser personally.
