1. I've seen the whole of this series and I must say that it was pretty good. I do have to say that the ending seemed a bit dry but the lead up was well worth it. and
Maximilian Robespierre is such a pretty boy
as for what raiyuu was talking about her's a link to the wikipedia article on the real D'eon de Beaumont. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevalier_d'Eon Don't read if you don't want a few little spoilers, but it's quite entertaining anyway.
 2. ok so top 3 imo: 1. Samurai Champloo 2. Rurouni Kenshin 3. Samurai Seven
 3. Oh my god. i need to see ep 9 now. I just saw ep 8 and I can see so much confusion from Romeo over what happened.
I was so not expecting Romeo to see Tybalt comforting Juliet as she cried.
I do have to say that it was
a very fitting end for the Friar.
This ep also didn't help my appreciation of Mercutio or Montague.
I still want to kick Mercutio in the face especially after pretending to be all chummy with Romeo, but the duke nearly ordering the death of Cielo was just cruel.
Hopefully he gets it by the end. I have to say that I couldn't help but laugh at
Conrad's face when Juliet announced she would follow her destiny.
In response to your post Dagger. To an extent the death count has already started.
The Doctor and the Friar being the first two casualties, even as supporting characters.
However I also have to say that no matter how much I'm loving Tybalt it wouldn't quite seem like Romeo and Juliet without having Romeo killing Tybalt. In fact I could almost see it happening over something such as
the imminent misunderstanding at the end of ep8 and Tybalt's hate for the Montagues.
I have to say that ep 8 for me has to be one of my favourites though with ep 4 being my favourite...what can I say, for a guy I'm a sucker for romance.
 4. I have to agree that it's extremely likely that it is not an anime. Not knowing the name doesn't help though, and I'm pretty sure now that it's not called princess witch...just going off my quick search. Pics on photobucket suggest dating sim *cough* but couldn't find any pics relating to that one on google images.
 5. I've watched the first ep of this and I have to say that I really want to watch more. Problem is that may only happen if my anime club does end up screening it since I'm loving all the other series I'm watching and don't want to stop them for this. I do have to say however the fact that it breaks the fourth wall dimension suprised me at first but after the second or so time I began to really love it. It seems like it will develop as a great comedy and as I said I hope to watch more.
 6. I have to say that from my impresions of seeing the whole series, the first ep starts of with a real bang. It's probably the only word I can use to describe it. It then slows down really quickly in ep2. At times though it seemed very slow even for a short 13 or so ep series especially from about ep 2-6 or something. But once it started getting into the weird and the thick off the plot, the payout in the end was really worth sitting through those slow eps. I think it's well worth watching.
 7. Something I saw a while back was an ep of a British show called Japanorama (I think that was it) where they focused on the Otaku culture. From the impression I got from it otakuness is not in fact an insult in Japan, but rather a way of life. Those who are Otaku's are actually proud of living that style of life. Was a while since I saw the ep so I can't remember much else. But if you're looking for something try and find that ep. Edit: just searched the series and it's series 2 episode 2 that I'm referring to.
 8. I've seen the series and am now slowly working my way through the manga as it gets released. The manga actually moves faster then the anime and imo is better then the anime. The comedy is just great in both though. In the manga however
his hallucinations are explained by the fact that he takes drugs which is not explained the anime
Also one of the great things I love is the second arc in the manga.
The Suicide arc is so much funnier when his friends don't try to go save him, in fact the friend goes to the comicon (or whatever it's called) instead and the Misaki follows him all the way thinking they were going to save Sato. Also the suicide meet, they try to gas themselves with carbon-monoxide instead, so once Sato passes out in the tent they drag him out and back home
Note: I'm useless with remembering names.
 9. I have to say that it was a very nice ep. The start with
Tybalt was awesome. Can't wait to see more of him
. I have to say that I also really enjoyed the end of the episode.
The chase scene was great and the song playing just seemed to emphasize the romantic qualities of it. And omg I was not expecting Romeo to kiss Juliet. not with the way the eps had been going so far.
As for the ep 8 preview
looks like the priest is finally going to get what he deserves. At the same time I wonder what Montague is talking to Romeo about.
10. oh my god thank you so much. those are great.
 11. requesting an avatar and banner set of the new series Romeo X Juliet. If possible can the banner say "Is this truly a love that shall never bear fruit?" Just Meggido on the avatar or nothing written. 1 pic attached, another 2 at the links below. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/shorty246/RomeoXJuliet1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/shorty246/RomeoXjuliet2.jpg Also for individual character pictures hopefully the link below works. http://anime.goo.ne.jp/special/gonzo/romejuli/character/index.html
 12. I have to say YAY
TYBALT
On another note the
doctor went out a lot more heroically then I expected. And that was definitely a bang.
They are also setting up the audience's hate for Montague extremely well.
Especially after removing Benvolio's family from a position of nobility. That was a major suprise to me since they didn't even have direct knowledge of the martial law.
can't wait for ep 7
more Tybalt.
13. On ep 5 I think Curio seems to know a lot more then he seems to let on. then again he seems to be a man who hides in the shadows. However
his comment about Juliet being besotted by a noble man was only known by Cordelia before, so how Curio knows is a complete mystery.
On the starting I have to say it was very much a cliche reaction to that sort of situation but then again it seems to be common in this sort of show/story. On romeo though
I think it's more that in his own mind he doesn't want to put the connection together in his mind bout Juliet being the Red Whirlwind. I mean him having dueled with the Red Whirlwind he should have seen the similarities between Juliet as Odin and the Red Whirlwind
. The final point with the end of ep 5
if the doctor does die in the next ep then it could help dissuade Romeo of any notion that Juliet is the Red Whirlwind. At the same time it is likely to set the wheels in motion
and maybe we'll see Tybalt soon :D I do however have to say that I had to laugh at
Juliet's embroidery of an iris on the handkerchief. All beginners are like that but it's worth the laugh.
14. I have to say I love the way each ep ends. I mean lets end with a completely new discovery each time which suprises the characters. It's an awesome plot mechanism and usually keeps the viewer wanting to watch more to find out how he characters react. Anyway just got round to watching ep 4 and I must say it was a nice ep. As for your translation of that line dagger, you pretty much got it spot on for the way the fansub group got it (yes I watch fansubs cause my knowledge of Japanese is extremely limited). Anyway I think these types of episodes are great especially in this type of series, really set the mood between the two characters. On another note I love the preview for episode 5. looks like
the hunt for the red whirlwind is about to really heat up.
15.
5. not influenced by personal feelings, interpretations, or prejudice; based on facts; unbiased: an objective opinion. 6. intent upon or dealing with things external to the mind rather than with thoughts or feelings, as a person or a book.
these are the definitions for objective that stand out for me for this argument. Liking something and not liking something are composed entirely of a biased opinion as well as personal feelings, thus liking or not liking anime is not in fact an objective thing but subjective. This is not so much as for the way your friend see's it or her boyfriend either, but as general widespread thing. I think where both of us got mixed up there was you were looking solely at your case where as I've been looking more at a widespread thing that's less defined. I was more using
existing in the mind; belonging to the thinking subject rather than to the object of thought
more in my mind as the definition for subjective, as even though I've done both sciences and philosophy, a scientific definition sometimes seems more natural to me. as for
The topic is, after all, "what is an anime fan." While we may squabble over how devoted one has to be to be an anime fan, I don't see how anyone can accept a definition that doesn't list "liking anime" as a prerequisite.
what you and I have been arguing over is more the fact that how do we really know if some one really "likes anime." this may make things a bit confusing but when someone claims they like anime we can't be certain that they do. In some ways we can determine that an "anime fan" should have some liking of anime whether it be 1 show or many. I think that was kinda agreed on ages ago, and from my view what you and I've been discussing Nerdsy is more how do you tell whether someone is an "anime fan." This is harder to tell as it's word of mouth. and a different topic altogether.
And I'm saying that claiming to be an anime fan and being an anime fan are two different things.
I haven't claimed once that the two were the same thing. I just said that if someone claims that they are an anime fan sometimes all we can do is accept what they say. Note: why can't I actually write my philosophy assignments on topics like this rather than on religions *cry*
 16.
I wouldn't want to disprove them. But that doesn't mean they are one. Something doesn't have to be proven for it to be true. The whole debate here is over what an anime fan is, and going by the definition of "admirer of anime," my friend alone would prove that saying you are one does not make you one. I could claim to someone that I watch 24 every week. That person would still have no reason to disbelieve me, but I would still be lying.
And the person she was telling that she liked anime would have to take it from word of mouth that she was a admirer of anime (if we're gonna continue to use that term). You might be able to say with certainty that she is in fact not, but her boyfriend cannot. This is what makes the topic truly subjective. Though you're point makes it seem you didn't really understand my point before. You say you wouldn't want to disprove them, and I'm certain no one would bother taking the time to do so either, but what I was saying is that we are walking a fine line regarding the idea of someone being a fan and not being one since majority of the time we are hearing people's opinions coming from word of mouth, weather true or untrue.
If something is subjective, it is solely an opinion. Yes, interests may change from person to person, but whether or not someone is interested is objective. While there may be different levels of interest (like/love/etc), it doesn't matter. If someone is interested in something, it is an objective fact that they are. If they are not interested in something, it is an objective fact that they aren't.
Actually it's not that set in concrete. By saying it's objective you're suggesting that this will never change. It's a very subjective thing to say you like something or you don't like something. For example I love anime now but who's to say that in 10 years this will still be the case. It's is subjective because it is subject to change and I'm positive my choice in shows, music, etc that I like 10 years ago is substantially different to what it is now.
 17.
So what you're saying is that if we can't prove they're not, then they are? This doesn't seem right, as it allows your simpler definition of "admirer of anime" to be applied to someone who hates anime. Case in point, that friend I mentioned earlier who absolutely despised anime, but put on a show so as to please her boyfriend. This isn't really a subjective thing; people either like it or they don't. My (or your) ability to determine if they do does not change their opinion.
It might not seem right but what r2vq said is quite literally correct. If you can't prove that they do like anime or don't like anime then you just have to take their word for it. With that friend you mentioned earlier you can prove that she was lying so she's in fact a different case. Simply put he's saying if someone says they're a fan of anime and you can't prove otherwise then you just have to take from word of mouth that they are a fan. As for it not being subjective, it actually is very subjective. It may be that you either do or don't like it but that's subjective to change from person to person. When you look at something subjectively you're not taking a 1 person basis but you are taking a wide selection of sources to base that on.
 18. Just finished watching episode 3 and I must say that you are very right about Mercutio, Dagger. He is really being set up as more of a villain rather then who he was in the play. I'm really looking forward to them showing Tybalt though, can't wait to see what they do with him. Anyway onto my thoughts. I have to say that
the fight between Romeo and Juliet was indeed well set up especially how he uses it to save her
. I also think that he may have figured out that
she is the red whirlwind just from the scent of Irisis
. I'm also amazed by the introduction of
Romeo's mother, and I feel she might have the idea that Romeo thinks she abandoned him by leaving the keep
. On another note I'm not sure what's a bigger cliffhanger.
Ep 2 where Juliet finds out she's a Capulet, or Ep 3 where she finds out Romeo is a Montague, her enemy
As for the preview,
looks like we're gonna have a fairly romantic episode between the two, and so far the romantic scenes have been quite nice
. On a different note I applaud Gonzo on they're artwork for Juliet. She's absolutely beautiful in my opinion. I think the fact that she seems plain and isn't all done up in the regalia of the upper classes accentuates her beauty. And I must admit even when dressed as a boy she is quite beautiful :animeblus
 19. Definition of Hero can always be a tricky one. Sometimes hero is associated with the main character but this not always true. In fact I'd almost claim a few of the characters named here to be more anti-heroes. To be more precise That would be Light from Death Note and Haseo from .hack//Roots. I say this mainly because even though they may be doing things that may seem heroic, or their intentions may be good the majority of the time the way they follow through with these things are often wrong. And often they are quite misunderstood by others. I mean anti-hero is not in saying they are a villain, for example in Film both Edward Scissorhands and Frankenstein's monster are considered anti-hero. As for my favourite hero would have to be Vash. Mainly because he was both the comedic entertainment of the show whilst also being extremely serious when needed. Probably no surprise that Trigun is one of my all time favourite animes.
 20. If I remember rightly Mercutio made a short appearance in the first ep. Very short but from that he almost
seemed to have a demeanor that was more directed to "sucking up" to Montague rather then being good friends with Romeo.
21. I enjoyed ep2. I have to say that
the role reversal make things very interesting for me, especially Romeo being engaged to Hermione,
also a lot more enjoyable. I also loved the fact that they had Willie
quote probably my most favourite Shakespeare quote. "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely actors."
As for the preview
with Romeo vs Juliet (red whirlwind), I almost took it that it could be related to something other then Juliet finding out that he's a Montague. There are a lot os possibilities that come out of it.
But the tragedy has been nicely set. Any idea how many eps this is gonna be or is it still unset?
 22. I've only seen the first ep so far but I must say I'm already enjoying the turn that this show is taking. I'm actually a Shakespeare fan so you'd think I'd hate the fact that they're not following the story but I find that the Romeo & Juliet story is quite contrived and overused at times. It's probably one of my least favourite Shakespeare plays but I would have seen this show anyway. The fresh spin that Gonzo has put on this story has actually made me quite pleased and I'm definitely going to continue watching this series.
 23. I read today that the music will be preformed by the Australian Eminence Orchestra. If you don't know who they are (which most of you won't) they're a group that performs music from anime and videogames around Australia. I'm actually going to see a performance in April of theirs though it's highly unlikely that it will contain any of the pieces from Romeo X Juliet. I'm actually looking forward to this more now :D
 24. I guess having read the manga
it did take away some of the suprise of Ichigo's father being a shinigami, but not once did it take away my anticipation. I think I spent everything after the small Ishida bit at the start going "when's Ichigo's father gonna appear? when's he gonna kick some arse." But I also agree the bit with the mod soul trio was tedious though I never thought Ichigo's father ever claimed Urahara was his best friend in the manga.
25. I'm not a big viz fan because whenever they license something it usually means it takes Madman 3 times as long as normal to be able to get the licensing rights here in Australia. The online release thing however could be interesting if it's done right.
