Originally posted by gokents Rael had an encounter with aliens and learned that the entire human race was born from clones who were created by aliens that started this civilization.
Dammit.. I specifically told him that it was between us and him.. and he wasn't to tell anyone else!!.. um.. *uses hypno-doohickey* you did nooot seee thaaat... Anyway.. I seriously doubt that it's a real clone, as presumably by "no baby" you mean that no evidence of the baby's existence at all, whether clone or not, has been given. It's not hard to provide some evidence, even if forged.. which makes it seem unusual. As for the race-driver guy.. I have several theories on what happened. Most of them involve illegal substances (or dangerous quantities of legal ones), or being on the butt-end of a practical joke, possibly involving those same substances. But that's just me. I'm really not in the mood for taking things seriously.. I'll make a better post later..

Hmmm... --To think of a New Year's resolution that is vaguely do-able, and then make it a New Year's resolution for next year. I don't do new year's resolutions that often, cos they are rarely ever do-able.. more specifically, I don't think it should just be a new-year thing.. cos most of the time you blow it and think "oh well", whereas ideally you'd try again, regardless of whether it was New Year or not. But I do think it's cool that people use a specific time to set goals, whether they can be acheived or not. What really counts, in my opinion, is trying, not acheiving. An effortless acheivement is worthless.. edit: working on a "I ought to do this some day", I'd love to: -lead worship on a huge scale, just once (not for recognition- half the people at a huge worship gathering don't know who the worship leaders are) -record a worship CD with "even in the desert" on it -own a real piano To be honest.. there's not a lot more than that that I can think of right now.. I need to diversify. Then I'll come back and add to my list.

There's how I came up with my name... let's just say it mostly comes from the game Desu Ex and also occasional run-ins with the dictionary. Essentially, Deus Ex Machina means somethinng along the lines of "An unexpected solution to a seemingly unsolvable problem" and is mostly used in drama, but sometimes to refer to real life situations as well. When I found that out I thought "cool" (as you do) and "that'd make a great screen name". Although at first I wansn't aware that you could have spaces in your screen name, so for 10 months or so my screen-name was Deus_Ex_Machina.

I used to live in Hanley, Stoke On Trent. Now I live in Lightwood, Stoke On Trent. For those of you that don't know (and I'm assuming that's all of you) Stoke On Trent is a city in the UK, made up of 6 towns: Hanley, Stoke, Longton, Fenton, Trentham, and Burslem. There are also lots of little areas- not towns in their own right, but not really one of the 6 major towns either. For example, Bradeley, Abbey Hulton, Meir, Trent Vale, Weston Coyney, Bentilee, Lightwood.. there's probably somewhere in the region of 50 areas (but that's a guess.. I have no idea on the exact amount) which make up Stoke On Trent as a whole. A few years ago, we moved from Hanley (a poorer area in Stoke) to Lightwood- a more pleasant area, on the boundary of Stoke on Trent, about 7/8 miles from Hanley. Apparently Stoke on Trent has the most stable population in the UK-- because no-one goes anywhere else (to live) usually..

Whoa.. this should get me thinking for a while..
Originally posted by Jesus Chicken What is God impotent? He can have plenty more beggotten sons and he doesn't have to send them to Earth, he can spread the message around?
1- Why have any more?.. Plenty of people ignored the original, what good will a second one do? 2- How do you know he didn't spread it around?.. You see, the Bible is a book about Man, and God, and what God has done on Earth. Just because it doesn't say that God made life elsewhere in his image, doesn't mean he didn't. And if he did, that makes us no less important as a race, than the sheer number of us makes us less important as individuals. Ultimately, the whole "there is nothing out there" opinion comes from people taking a "it doesn't say it happened, so it didn't" mentality.
Originally posted by Jesus Chicken Well if a higher power does exist, how come its like this, why dont I believe it?
Because you don't have to. That's the thing. What's the point in faith if it's compulsory?.. that's what was so wrong about the middle ages- people HAD to believe in God, and a certain way of doing things, and there was very little actual faith in there as a result.
Originally posted by Jesus Chicken Why should I beleive in such promises when the 'holy book' that its all written in, is riddled with lies and threats?
Give me an example of that and I might just consider it a valid point.
Originally posted by Jesus Chicken God punishes all those who don't worship him or so the bible says, so bring it on?
We're not talking about your bog-standard being here. If you don't follow God due to lack of fear (as opposed to lack of belief that he exists) of something infinitely bigger than you, then I don't get you at all. Again, this is assuming (wrongly I know) that you do believe in God, but don't follow him due to lack of fear of punishment.
Originally posted by Jesus Chicken I frankly dont care about God, I just dont believe that somwhere up in the sky a big master plan has been mapped out for us all, tahts why we have our own opinions and lawyers and people are horrible to other people.
We have our own opinions because we're all different, and have the free will to form our own opinion. People are horrible to others because they can be, and they don't have the self-control or the desire not to. Ultimately, people are bad, not God. There is only really a "master plan" of sorts when you actually decide to follow it. Sometimes you get drawn into it, but until that point you pretty much do what the hell you like.
Originally posted by Jesus Chicken With all these things going on, believing in God is just a way for the insecure to lie to themselves about it getting better after this.
Have you ever talked to a Christian with an actual faith? Most of them, before their conversion, were pretty sure of themselves. I was. I wasn't exactly what you'd call "insecure", I had pretty much the same opinions as you, but I was generally less outward about them. I never really cared a great deal whether it got better or not, and if it did, I didn't need some God to get there. But I see things far differently now, and I'd hardly say most Christians I know are "insecure".
Originally posted by The Harlequin That is the most pathetic, bigoted thing I've ever heard.
Bless you, too.. (really, I mean it)
Originally posted by The Harlequin Do you know why that belief is prevalent? It's merely an extension of fear. Good men fear evil men, so they try to make every one as good as possible.
I don't fear evil. Well, I do occasionally but it's all for nothing at all. I have no reason to fear evil people any more than I should fear the Devil. OK, he's a really big pain in the ***, but we all (Christians) know where he's going. If anything, I try (not always successfully) to be compassionate towards evil people, because of the fact that no-one, regardless of what they did, are doing, or are yet to do, is beyond forgiveness.
Originally posted by The Harlequin You can't accept that goodness, should it exist, and I personally believe it doesn't, is confined to one single entity.
I don't follow you at all. If you mean that we can't accept that goodness is confined to God, you're wrong. We're all evil, but God chooses to use us anyway. Anyone who believes the gospel and says "I'm a totally good person", didn't understand it right.
Originally posted by The Harlequin If a person doesn't believe in your god, yet helps people every day of their lives, your god would consign them to some kind of eternal punishment?
Name me one such person. It's like the "He who is without sin, cast the first stone". Find me one perfect person like that, and I'll happily disregard my beliefs.
Originally posted by The Harlequin Excuse me, but how did your church get any converts at all? I certainly wouldn't follow what appears to be a somewhat sententious whiner.
I dunno, try asking them why they converted. We certainly get enough to get a fairly large amount of opinions in there.
Originally posted by The Harlequin Welcome to the grey world, my lost cathartik friend. It's a lot more spacious here, but you can't see where you're going. It's somewhat fogged with misconceptions, prejudice, fear, and moral indignation: jealousy with a halo. Welcome to the real world.
Yeah, I recognise that place. I think I live there. We all do, and we're not supposed to try to live in this "fantasy place" that's perfect and all kinds of crap like that. We're supposed to endure the crap in this life, and help people through it. According to our beliefs, there is something beyond all that, but this world is nowhere near it.
Originally posted by The Harlequin Your black and white theory might have worked in the Middle Ages, when you could simply burn anyone who objected
Not that we should have, or anything. That was completely wrong. Just like what a lot of people's ancestors did.
Originally posted by The Harlequin but all your friendly bigots can't do that anymore... so you fall back on absolutes. Absolutes are always the last refuge prejudice takes before the holder of the belief realises he's wrong.
Absolutes?.. You mean like, absolute right and wrong, or what?. Where do you actually think those "absolutes" came from? People are taught from an early age what is good and bad, if it weren't for that, where do you think we'd be? Some cultures don't view stealing as wrong.. they don't even view it as "stealing", the only reason "stealing is bad" has been the general law in our society for so long is cos the majority used to be Christians, and those laws came from the Ten Commandments, and have been adapted over time. I probably misunderstood your whole "absolutes" point.. but I didn't really know what to make of it.
Originally posted by The Harlequin Your dogma is exactly the pathetic self-righteousness that has killed as many people as any war you can name over the years.
"Do not use God's name in vain".. what do you think killing in the name of God is classed as, by God? 1- A holy and pure act 2- Using God's name in Vain
Originally posted by The Harlequin The followers of your god can not claim to stand with the innocent. No one can. There are no innocents.
Agreed
Originally posted by The Harlequin But then, morality is also an extension of prejudice and fear. They are the conscious reaction to instinctive beliefs, not any celestial rule impressed upon us.
How exactly is morality an extension of prejudice and fear?.. Fear, perhaps, for some, who stick to moral codes for fear of punishment, but how does prejudice get in there?
Originally posted by The Harlequin As for my life depending on it, (I had a lot to do with Jesus's arguments, I was two feet away from him), you can bet that not only does not concern me, but if your god does strike me down, I'll join all the other matyrs out there.
Originally posted by Jeff lol. no. i was agreeing with you about using your own methods of opinions rather than using bible..because it has chance to say what you had to say if it is your opinion..but when i start mentioning bible or Jesus, i'll get shut off from the beginning and wont get a chance to tell anything. i was dealing with so called christian ppl at other board..who actually got offended what bible had to say. i was giving an example. sorry if i gave you wrong impression(which i think i did 0_o). lol. i've been sorta reading your replies lately and looks cool to see how you give a chance to mention God in your posts to other ppl.
WHOA!! big misunderstanding.. sorry.. I took that comment the wrong way entirely. I saw it as the kind of thing you'd say when lota of people were offended for no reason, and you kind of say to them "It's funny how people are always offended by what I have to say" Kind of thing.
Originally posted by Jeff oops..quick reply to deus. Jesus said this generation shall not pass...when fig tree(israel) was born in 1948. when fig tree is fully matured(lack of words on my part), birth of pang starts. famine, earthquake, crime rate, love will grow cold etc. i'm sure you are familiar with matthew 24. and yeah..Jesus' return is imminent. nobody knows.
I've probably read Matthew 24 (meaning "I've definitely read it, but I forget which bit it was"). Come to think of it, I think I know the bit you're on about.. I had to read it a few times over (I'm a recent Christian, so I don't know a huge amount of Chapters by name). I must admit, I've had the feeling that his return is imminent, but it's a kind of vague "I could be wrong on this" feeling. Anyway, yeah.. I've already heard about all the prophecies coming true. My philosophy is "he'll come when he's good and ready". If that means 10 minutes from now, OK. If it means 10 years from now, OK. Apparently time-related prophecies tend to be very inaccurate these days (from what I've been told about them), so I'll just stick with a "it could be any time, but don't assume it's still a way off" philosophy. So yeah, I think my point (eventually) is that it could be today, it could be a long way off. It's gonna happen someday though, so I'd better be ready for it.
Originally posted by Jeff it's funny. ppl rather listen when i dont mention what bible(Word of God) has to say. but when i start using bible, ppl starts to get offended..even for those who claims to be christians..-_-
Hey, I wasn't offended, don't worry about that ;) I was just clarifying on my earlier post, in case there was some misinterpretation there. I'm not quite sure where I've implied that I was offended.. so I'm sorry if I did infer that by mistake. If you're talking about my last comment, what I meant was that I tend to, whenever I read something in the bible, I justify it in my own mind. That way, I actually have a point if a discussion ever comes up, rather than just pointing to the bible. I wasn't (or rather, I wasn't intentionally) inferring that there was anything wrong with the way you do things ;). So yeah.. I wasn't offended, and I'm sorry if I gave that impression off ;)
