1. I can't really think of a decent reply.. meh.. it's early(ish).. or rather, I've been up since pretty early.. Anyway.. I have just enough brain power to give this proposed legislation a great big "What on earth are we thinking".. I mean, people don't go around calling people "homosexuals" in an insulting manner. The main reason is that the people who do use offensive words don't have the sheer brain capacity to remember a nice long word like that. If anything, I think the government should focus more on the actual discrimination involved, rather than banning words. It doensn't matter how many words they ban, there'll always be more (and, as I said, people just don't go round calling people "homosexuals" in an offensive way). "Here's an idea, how about we ban the word "heterosexual" from being said in a good way, because that clearly implies that any other sexual preference is bad, and therefore we are discrimnating by saying that." that's pretty much how stupid of an idea I view this proposed legislation to be.. ok.. so I was wrong, I could think of a half decent reply.. heh.. didn't think I had it in me..
 2.
Originally posted by Yu Yu Hakusho! Have you caught the Christmas spirit yet?
Yeah, I caught it, put it in a bottle, and I'm selling it to the highest bidder. The current offer is £20 and a magical monkey. For more details visit thisisnotarealsite.com Anyway.. um yeah. I haven't really caught the "Christmas spirit" this year.. mostly cos I'm pretty busy right now, and haven't really gone into the city centre for a while now, and seen the huge queues of Christmas shoppers and such..
 3. exerpts from Christian Worship Songs "Come as you are, don't change a thing... ...His love for you will never die" (by Jacqui Vasques (sp?)) "Come just as you are to worship Come just as you are before your God" (by Brian Doerkeson) "This is who I'm meant to be, I know you have chosen me" (by Brenton Brown) basically, it doesn't matter what you think of the worship side of things. Those exerpts are very true, whether you believe in God or not. You shouldn't need to change yourself in order to have others love you for who you are. That defeats the whole objective of unconditional love. As a christian, I believe that God loves everyone regardless of what their personal preferences are, in aany area. As Christians, we shouldn't really be any different (I'm glad to say that I haven't seen a Christian say anything different in this thread). Ultimately, my belief is that if God wants to change you, he will, if you let him. But it's not for us to decide how, when, or if you should change. It doesn't matter what you see as sin, all of us do it on a regular basis, whether Christian or not, and whether big things or small things.. no-one should be denied because of what they have done, what they do, or what they will do, regardless of whether you see it as wrong or not.
 4. Meh.. you know the drill by now (or rather, the people who usually post replies in my threads in this forum do..) Old worship song (this one I wrote a couple of months ago) No midifile as yet (most of these I remember in my head, or via minidisc recording, rather than with a midi file) _ _ _ _ _ _ _ For so long I was searching for meaning, And I found it in You Always Yearning for something to live for, And now I live for You (repeat) Because You are God, Creator of the Heavens and the Earth And You are our Father You are God, Creator of the whole universe And still you love each and every one of us Today, I just seek to be closer, Closer to you When I get there I find that I'm stronger, Stronger through you (repeat) You are God, Creator of the Heavens and the Earth And You are our Father You are God, Creator of the whole universe And still you love each and every one of us
 5.
Originally posted by cloricus Justin - What is God? How do you know, what happens if God is wrong?
1- God is.. "God". I could go on for ages about it, but that'd be pointless.. 2- We know because he has revealed himself to us.. and I don't mean by coming down 2000 years ago, every Christian has their own personal revelation. Unfortunately, if you never recieved that revelation, then you were never saved or "baptised by the holy spirit". It doesn't matter if you were baptised as a child, or read the bible, if the actual faith wasn't there then there will be no sense of God being there, either. 3- consider this: God is all knowing; God is all powerful; God is everywhere. We are not. Most of the time it's us who get it wrong, by mis-hearing things, or by thinking that a thought came from God when it didn't. That is when bad things happen. I don't seriously believe at all that God condoned the "Holy" Wars so long ago, but people are seriously imperfect, especially when they think they're not.
Originally posted by cloricus S@bretooth - ?Holy Bible, which is 100% accurate in its predictions of Jesus? ? Hehe, have you read the bible? Tried linking it all, if you did you would have a very rude shock. (Reading the Bible was one of the main things that drove me out of Christianity, I could not see how we could believe in a book that had been so corrupted over and over for more than 2000 years that may have not even been true in the first place. And getting, you must have faith for ever question.)
Yes I have read the Bible, and linking it all.. and I don't really see a problem with it. Some bits don't make sense.. for example, Matthew's gospel says that Judas killed himself, whereas the book of acts says that his "internal organs spilled out in a field". The gospels were written many years after Jesus' death, and there are bound to be some inconsistencies between them, when you nit-pick, but the basic doctrine is always the same. The Bible was not written by God, but inspired by him, so don't expect absolute perfection in the details. However, the prophecies of Jesus were correct.
Originally posted by cloricus Valen ? Just a little side fact for you, 2000 years ago Christ was not born. If he existed at all he would have been (or older) than 6, so technically the end of the world was 8 years ago? (And yes that is backed up by fact.)
I think S@bertooth explained that pretty well.. "Valen, the whole thing about the year 2000 being the apocalypse was mis read doctrine" I'm intrigued.. which denomination were you from?.. and how lively was your church, exactly? (lively meaning "actually practising rather than just preaching", and not a chore to go to)
 6.
Originally posted by GinnyLyn This is just something that's bothered me for a while now. Here in America, we have many different kinds of people, cultures, and beliefs. Yet, it seems to me, more and more, that failure to keep up with the latest tv show episodes is given more jeers than keeping up with the latest information on the news. Yet the news seems just as contrived, sometimes, as the tv shows.
I watch very little TV any more, to be honest. The odd bit here and there. Because the News and Media are very selective. They rarely say a direct untruth, but they say truths out of all proportion, to mess with people's emotions, and to make them feel angry, sad, sympathetic, etc. A good example of this was a friend of my Mum's. He had terminal cancer, and was a doctor. He was planning a huge study, and the local newspaper decided to do a feature about it. Rather than talking about the study (which is a really important study, and doesn't need a lot of words to describe why).. they focussed on the fact that he was dying, to get the sympathy of the readers. In short.. media isn't about information as much as it's about selling information. Which is perfectly understandable, but I choose not to go with that..
Originally posted by GinnyLyn My question is, do you think that intelligence is based on just how much of society you are expected to know, understand, and possibly even support? (I hope I'm making some sense.) What about common sense and wisdom?
If intelligence is based on knowing about all the latest in the world of soap operas, celebrity gossip, fashion, and whatever the latest trend is (which are just as much part of society as the News), then I choose to be ignorant and blissful. I think intelligence is based on various things. There's different types, for a start.. theres the kind based on knowledge, and interpretation and application of that knowledge, and there's the emotional kind. I don't think keeping up with society shows intelligence, but it helps if people are going to talk about such things..
Originally posted by GinnyLyn More and more I feel shut out of people's problems because they feel that I am too cheerful to seriously talk about bad things (NOT TRUE!) or that I'm just not intelligent enough (I'm more of an emotion based person than a logic one).
(very Christian oriented reply) we had a guy speaking at C.U. last week.. he left school at 14, by dismissal, and no other school would accept him after that. Up until 10 years ago, he was a drug dealer in liverpool, until he saw a vision of Jesus in a nightclub and was converted. He's one the the wisest, and most helpful guys I've met. There's a similar (in terms of education, at least) story behind an American guy I know of, called Ken Blue.. If those two can help people through bad times, with that much intelligence, I'm sure you can ;)
 7.
Originally posted by GinnyLyn I'll be honest, like you have been, but I get the feeling it's gonna send me on the same problems it sent you--being scorned and abandoned for sharing. I don't agree with your decision, but, like James said, your sexuality isn't really what makes you you (it does a bit, and yes, that bit bothers me (please leave me alone about being close minded and junk, all of you--I'm not, but I'm not changing my faith to be "politically correct")). I still respect you as a person.
I don't think you're closed minded (just thought I'd point that out first).. but I think it depends what you mean by "bother".. I mean, if you mean it bothers you as in the way that you worry for him, then I agree, purely because my beliefs are the same as yours.. but if you mean it bothers you, in the way that you'd consider hima lesser person, then I think that would be wrong, not just politically but as a Christian, too.. So yeah.. I honestly think you actually didn't mean the second kind of "bother".. And I just thought I'd point that out before anyone jumps on that comment ;) EDIT: When I say "honestly think".. what I mean is "there is no doubt in my mind", not "correct me if I'm wrong".. heh ^^
 8. heh.. This post isn't going to make a lot of sense without a little bit of background information. A few of you know this, a LOT of you don't: I worked at Sports Soccer, for about two years, and I built up a lot of trust there. I mean, a LOT of trust. I was one of those people that got in with everyone (but didn't socialise much.. heh) and people just.. trusted.. And then about 6 months ago I started stealing from work.. a nearly a month later, I was dismissed (and rightly so). On the day that I was dismissed, I was in quite an emotional wreck, and my Mum and Dad took me to the church service that night, and I converted that night, as the service was very helpful to me. That's a very shortened version of the thing.. there's a much longer version floating around on my PC somewhere.. So yeah, my points are: 1- My old work-mates don't know that I'm a Christian 2- My old school-mates don't know any of the above And I kind of wish I could tell them. So far none of my old school-mates have actually asked how I'm going on at work yet.. and if I ever do, I really hope I can tell them the whole truth.. but it's hard to do so. I've only talked to a couple of my work-mates since I left (and not very much at that), and they were actually more shocked that I'd do anything like that, than they were angry towards me. I really wish I could tell them that I'm a Christian, but I just knew them so long as a non-Christian that I just don't feel I can. Which is pretty stupid really. Ultimately, I believe that there is no place for lying. There's a place for not saying the whole truth, but not in a lying way. There's a place for keeping secrets, but not for creating a mistruth in order to do so. however, despite the fact that that's what I believe, it is extremely hard to actually put into practise. Unfortunately, I think the whole "anti-homosexuality" thing came from my faith, or rather the various different misinterpretations of it. Ultimately, I don't believe anyone should be condemned.. but many Christians before me have had very different opinions towards that I've always tried not to change my entire opinion of someone just because of one thing.. now I try not to change my opinions of someone massively, due to anything at all.
originally posted by Sara It's foreign to me. Everything's shades of grey, which is difficult for me to admit. I've always been a Christian, and I look at the Ten Commandments, and other rules and laws, and wonder if they're really the right thing. They're supposed to be, but I'm not seeing them that way. Life's too real to search after far-away ideals.
My personal opinion is that all the grey bits are up to you to decide.. bits that don't necessarily have a particular "You shall/Shall not do this" commandment. Essentially my view is "anything you personally believe to be wrong requires you to think the same things, in order to do it, as something that you know to be wrong. So, what you think is wrong, is just as wrong for you, as something that you know is wrong". So yeah.. essentially I think that you pretty much go by your own morals, and try to incorporate the biblical ones into them. I personally justified the Ten Commandments to myself, as in, I thought through each one and asked "why might God want us to do that", and so it's less following rules blindly, and more knowing why you follow them.. bleh.. I probably misunderstood the comment.. heh ^^
 9. Meh.. I get sidetracked far easier offline. I mean, I can start talking about something, and then I'll make a little "side-point", and talk about that for 5 minutes or so. And then I'll make another side point.. heh.. My way of explaining it is: "When my Mum speaks, she gets to the point quickly, and stays there for half an hour. When I speak, I take half an hour to actually get to the point"
 10.
Originally posted by Elite I haven't seen a good bit of snow in about 10 years now :)
There was this one time in 1994. I only remember the year cos I'd just started high school, so I was 11.. and we got sent home about 2 hours early.. I only got home half an hour early though.. heh.. the traffic didn't budge very much for a long time..
 11. Back when I actually worked, my supervisor kept telling me about this "invisible action figure toy" thing that one of the shops sold. In case you couldn't guess for yourself, it's just an empty box.. heh. Anyway.. I never actually saw one (never even really looked), but that'd be a pretty good gag gift.. heh..
 12.
Originally posted by vegeta rocker Dare you say it? What is that suppossed to imply?
What he meant was "Dare I say that homosexuality is wrong, according to my beliefs" and he was implying that people may be hostile towards that comment.
 13. ummm... I vote labour?... heh.. I dunno what that relates to in the US.. politics just one of a few things I don't really pay attention to that often..
 14. I love worship songs. They're so easy to name.. if you can't think of anytihng good, use the first line of the song (people do this because worship songs are usually indexed by their first line, in songbooks). So yeah.. There are lots of different types of worship songs, and they all tend to fall into two categories: 1- A song in praise of what God has done 2- A dialogue between God and the worshipper This song is very much the second type, whereas all my previous ones have been the first. You can't really just sit down and write a song of this type.. it's the sort of thing that has to be inspired. I'll make this easy to understand.. all the bold text, is where God is speaking, and the italic text is the worshipper's reply.. a'right? Anyway.. let's get that song up _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ I feel your suffering I feel your pain I feel your loneliness and shame When you are lost Here I'll always be Ready to comfort you again When I look upon Your hopelessness An icy blade cuts into my heart And as my call Is lost to you In frustration my spirit weeps Lord, I sing to you Bring your healing now Cleanse me of the pain again Help me face what was Embrace what is to come And live in what is now, forever more There is a light One day it will shine again I wait in faith for your return And on that day of re-lit flame The heavens will rejoice again! Lord, I sing to you Bring your healing now Cleanse me of the pain again Help me face what was Embrace what is to come And live in what is now, forever more Lord, I sing to you Bring your healing now Cleanse me of the pain again Help me face what was Embrace what is to come And live in what is now, forever more This worship song also comes with complemebtary midi file, for free. Thanks, Mike, for zipping it (this PC has no winzip.. heh)
 15. I've never personally done anything in my sleep, other than lie there.. but apparently my uncle used to sleep walk a lot, and one particular time he.. ahh. "relieved himself" on the fire (back when we had a fire rather than central heating)..
 16.
Originally posted by gokents He wrote about 2,000 "proverbs", actually more than that, but they were all close to stuff that has happend, and its really a matter of what the translator says.
Firstly: Not all of them Secondly: They were written in a peculiar mixture of several different languages, i.e. the language would usually switch between individual words, so each one can say a very large number of things (Even more than your average ancient>modern translation)
Originally posted by Rick Hunter :therock: Nope sorry, I don't believe in prophecies, I tend to believe that there is no such thing as pre-determined fate or destiny. I believe more along the lines that the future is uncertain and can not be pre-determined based on the fact you have the power to change your future and fate. :cross: Or something along those lines...:freak:
Let's say someone records something live. Then they watch it again. From the beginning of the tape, they know exactly what was going to happen, but does that mean they had absolute control over it? Now let's assume that the Christian faith is correct, and God is timeless (i.e. he is at all times at once- conceptually hard, but so is omnipresence, when you actually think about it), and therefore has this "recording" right from the beginning of the universe. Just because he knows what's going to happen, doesn't mean it was all pre-determined. That's pretty much what prophecy (in the Christian context) is about.
Originally posted by Crazy White Boy I don't believe in biblical prophecies either. If they held any value, the world would have ended closely following the days of Jesus. That's why the New Testament condemns sexual behavior as opposed to the Old Testament's positive attitude towards futility; there wasn't a need to reproduce during that time because the apocalypse was near.
They prophesied that Jesus would come "soon", around 500 years before he did. The word "soon" in the biblical context doesn't necessarily mean by our standards. And fertility isn't condemned. There's a verse that says somewhere "I would rather you be like me and live alone" or something like that, but then he goes on to say that if you don't want to live alone, the don't. Condemnation of an action is something completely different.
 17. Cool.. My name means Daniel: God is my judge Christopher: Christ-bearer Lucking: I haven't a clue.. but apparently the family name used to be "Lucain" (Pronounced "Lu-kayne"), but was changed when my grandad moved over to England (from Ireland). That would have been cool.. heh.. "Daniel Christopher Lucain"
 18.
Originally posted by Rain Well, I'm sure you all know that G'day is Aussie slang...but the only time we really say that is if you're humouring American tourists...
What about when you're humouring British Tourists? "Tra" we say "Tra".. it means "goodbye" I think that's all I can think of.. however I'm gonna just have to make an MP3 of a recording where I say "quality" on it.. heh..

 20. No. Not really. If you're think ing about something a lot, you can't sleep regardless of what you try. You have to kind of clear your mind, without actually thinking about it.. which is something I have yet to ever actually be able to do with intention. Apart from that, nothing really works, except maybe if there's a placebo effect in there somewhere..
 21.
Originally posted by DarkOrderKnight ROFLMAO!!!! The last two sound like they come right out of FF VII! The first one I really like though.
Um... I really must play FFVII again.. I don't see.. or "hear" rather.. the resemblance ^^;
 22. My mum and Dad put ours up yesterday.. meanwhile, I was playing my keyboard.. heh.. I didn't realise they were decorating.. ^^ and they never said anything, so I'm bound to be lazy.. By the way.. I was wondering.. why did you make a poll where you could vote for more than one option?.. I voted for all six :toothy:
 23. Meh.. 1- Gareth Robinson CD (finally) "42" 2- Songbooks, I guess.. 3- The old (but really really good) church keyboard that's getting passed down to the youth group (they're getting an even better one) 4- um... I'm not too picky this year..
 24. Here I am, some guy who studies physics and biochemistry, and I decided to become a Christian. A month after becoming a Christian, I went to a Christian conference, where Gareth Robinson (a UK worship leader) prophesied that I would worship more. Coming from a worship leader, I wasn't too sure what to make of it. At another Christian conference, a month later, I suddenly, out of no-where, became a worship leader. For one thing, Gareth had no idea that I actually knew how to play the keyboard (and neither did anyone at the other conference either), so he couldn't have thought "this guy plays keyboard, therefore he'll probably end up leading worship".. so there was no logic involved. Yes, I believe in divine prophecy.. I've seen it work a few times now, with people that knew nothing about me whatsoever, in startlingly accurate ways. Don't bother trying to convince me it's not real. However, the non-divine kind I don't really have a particular opinion on.
