I'm not particularly here nor there on the removal of the Newbie Lounge. It happened.. let's just accept it and get over it. It's not as if we're all gonna die because one of otakuboards' forums is gone.
 3. OOC: wow.. Sara, you really did write a lot.. ^^ especially considering it's small text.. Also OOC: Dammit! I keep calling myself Deus instead of Belteshazzar!# Even more OOC: Come on people!! :toothy: post! ------------------- Belteshazzar approached the town entrance Belteshazzar: "Welcome to Ghil-139".. pfft.. It was far better when the towns here had names.. not numbers.. Belteshazzar walked into the old, dark, delapidated town. Ghillorhia used to be the capital planet of the Arkali Empire, and was the planet damaged the most during the rebellion against the oppressive forces of the seven emperors, and it had never been renovated since then. Belteshazzar could somehow feel someone lurking in the darkness, and unsheathed the Talon Blade. He kept on walking, sensing someone nearby, but unsure how he could sense such a thing. He peered into the shadows, and suddenly a young boy came running out. Belteshazzar jumped, and then turned around towards the child, still running away Belteshazzar: IDIOT KID!! Just then, someone else jumped out of the shadows and struck Belteshazzar, sending him flying into a wall. Belteshazzar's eyes began to glow with a yellow light, and he clutched the Talon blade more tightly Belteshazzar: Who are you? But the man, now in plain sight, was frozen in fear. The man was very large, and seemed capable to take Belteshazzar on easily, if not for the power inside him. Belteshazzar stretched out his arm and a beam of bright light extended from it, colliding with the man and vapourising him. Belteshazzar then looked at his hand, and at what he had done, in horror Belteshazzar then started to writhe around on the floor, trying to control what seemed to be a demon within him...

YES, I STARTED this USA-discussion, but now I'm also going to stop it. We are digging the past too much, while we should look to the future.
And how exactly are you supposed to look to the future without looking at the past and present, eh? That wasn't the thing that was off-topic at all.. what was off-topic was your anti-american rantings. Yeah, Americans can be really self-consumed as a country and as a people.. but then, so can we.. so can any country, the only difference is America is bigger, and therefore gets criticised by all the little countries. If England was the size of america, I doubt that we would be any different. The thing is, we're not different at all anyway.. we're just much smaller. Someone has to play cop anyway.. if for no other reason then purely because no-one can be arsed to. Have you ever seen England actually make a gutsy decision recently? Being a christian, I'm all for pacifism, and am thoroughly against war, so I don't really approve of dropping bombs on anyone. However, I'm also against being a coward and not doing anything in case people don't like you.
 5.
Originally posted by vaca_diablo (You could have just given the refence.)I think its important to look at how his brother's reacted to his prediction. He said that he would rule over them someday and they chose not accept it and to punish him for even saying something like that. Wesley Willis always claimed toe a rock star but not too many people even take him seriously, much less respect him for the great talent he has. I think the point is really to trust God and to ignore people that tell you that you cant do it.
Yeah.. I could have given the reference but most brits don't own a bible. Some probably don't even know what one looks like.. So that's why I copied the whole thing. I know that in America, I think practically everyone owns a bible, even if they don't read it much.. but I was looking to get non-christian responses, too ;).. I think that is is also a good point. But presumably this Wesley Wallis (I have no idea who he is, sorry..) was alreadt a rock star of sorts.. whereas Jacob said essentially "I will be above you all" when he was only seventeen. So the reason I said my point is that really, arrogance gets you no-where. Jesus was also different, in a way. He already was the son of God, and performed many miracles and helped many people which proved it, and yet still people rejected him. Anyway.. Your point is just as good.. it's just that a month or so ago I was almost telling everyone how I was called to do something- and it seemed really arrogant, so God kind of used the story to say "hold on.. be quiet about it for now".. so that's what the first part of the story means to me..
 6. I think the boards are run quite well.. the only real problem is that there are certain times- typically around 12:00-4:00 UK time, when there aren't any moderators on at all, most of the time.. but then, there isn't much to moderate at that time, either..
 7.
Originally posted by Justin As far as the different denominations of Christianity go: I really don't like the fact that there are so many. I think we should all unify into one. Sadly, we can't do that and please everyone. -Justin
I agree with you there. I actually sort of consider the denominations to be like nations in a way- each has it's own distinctive culture, but sadly each one also has a few who believe that only their denomination is truly right. That's the main problem, I think. I'm all for diversity.. some people like services that I would consider boring, whereas I'm all for a really lively service with modern, rock-esque worship. The main problem is that people think that the two have to be divided into seperate denominations. There are actualy a lot of churches around these days which don't actually belong to a specific denomination.. I think they're generally called "fellowships" rather than churches.. I've been to one before and it was really quite good to be free from denominational traditions.. Oh yeah, and Justin, one day we will all be unified, in God's church rather than our own ;)
Originally posted by AJeh What is the difference between the main Christian sects? Pretty out-of-topic, I know, but it's the perfect opportunity to find out.. Thanks
To be honest with you, I don't really have that much idea.. They're kind of more like different cultures within the same faith, than seperate faiths, no matter what some of them may think about whether or not the other denominations will go to hell or not.. I'm not entirely sure whether the people that teach that their denomination is the only true one, will actually get into heaven at all, cos in a way it's false teaching (anyone who disagrees obviously hasn't properly read the bible), and it's quite clearly said that some people who claim to know God will get to heaven and God will say "I never knew you", because essentially they were never really working for him, they were working to elevate themselves over everyone else, when the Bible actually teaches humility (being humble). So yeah.. Anyone who wants to disagree with me on that all denominations are equally able to get into heaven, then fine, do so, but if you seriously believe that then you are not acting in line with the gospel of Christ. There are also "cults" around, like Jehovahs witnesses.. they aren't really Christians, that fact has been pretty established at our church when one of our members asked a group of Jehovahs witnesses "are you Christians", and they said "no". Basically, they believe the Bible being absolutely true, but refuse to believe in the Holy Spirit, so they are kind of a contradiction rather than a christian denomination, as the Bible clearly states that the Holy Spirit is real. So yeah.. in my view the only difference between denominations is cultural.. we're all part of God's church, we just choose to do things differently, like people in different parts of the world.. but ultimately, we'll all be part of God's church in the end, if we have actually given our lives to him. It may be best to see if anyone actually knows the real differences (rather than the similarities, which I have given) between the denominations.. I'm not an expert on the actual denominations themselves, so I don't really know.
Originally posted by demlinos In reply to the first post, her spell is fake. I am wiccan (a witch) and know that it is not possible to physicaly go back in time to change things. This defyes one of my most probable laws. "If one goes back in time, then the past would have to still be happening. And if this is true, then the future is happening too. Then, If someone went into the future, there would be amillion of him in the future. This is true because if the past is still happening over and over again, then he would go threw time over and over again. There for, there would be an infinite number of him. This in itself poses a problem. For energy cannot be created nor destroyed. So, creating more of herself would break this law, or destroy the world because the energy level that is currently present (there is one) would become more and make it unstable." This is just some thinking that i did while under deep meditation. I dream walked (not sleep walked, dream walked) where i made my way to one of the many 'rips' in the shell protecting us from the energy in use. The energy is not actually in this world. It is in another that is unstable already. So the more energy you (if possible) create, would make it rip more, releasing the energy onto our world. Since most of us can't contain or control it, we will die. Tell me your thoughts. I will post more.
Um.. if someone goes to the past, it just has to be there.. Time is just a dimension like space. You walk down a street from one end to another, and in the same way you walk through time all your life, from beginning to end. Say you walk down a street that is being built as you walk (really slow walk), at the same speed that you walk at. The street doesn't have to still be in construction at a particular point for you to go back there.. and if you decided to walk faster to a further point along the street, it doesn't necessarily have to have started construction yet, but you would get a vague idea of what it looks like. The only real difference is we can't yet control the walk through time. All that about there being an infinite number of you in the future just wrong. If we could travel in time, it doesn't mean that the past has to happen all over again, and therefore it doesn't mean that you would come back into the future an infinite number of times. The past happens once, if you go back there it doesn't necessarily mean the universe has to press the big rewind button and do it again.. and even if it did, there wouldn't be a million of the person, because when you play something back, the same thing happens every time, you don't suddenly get two of the same thing happening. I suggest you don't mix scientific principles like "Energy cannot be created nor destroyed", with crap like "there would be an infinite number of him".

 10.
Originally posted by Mitch I think that any burning of a flag shows that: 1) You are unpatriotic 2) You do not respect Americans 3) You do not respect freedom Basically, it just shows ignorance. Especially if you are a citizen of the US. But I can not stop people from doing it, nor will I.
I agree with your last two points there, but I don't particularly like patriotism as it is- patriotism often leads to a "my country is better than yours" way of thinking and just starts arguments. Of course, it does depend on the kind of patriotism you mean. For some people, Patriotism is simply a respect and love for your own country. I only really agree with that if you show the same respect for other countries, though having a sort of pride for your own. But generally, this isn't the kind of patriotism people refer to. For a lot of people, "Patriotism" is the attitude I mentioned above, the "my country is better than yours". I don't mean to be offensive to anyone, but I find this attitude particularly prominent in America- often people will say "That is Un-American", as a way of saying that something is bad, or goes against someone's rights.. whereas in Britain, we don't say "That's just Un-British", and I doubt they similar things anywhere else either. It just seems that you think you are way above everyone else, whereas actually you are not. That even shines through in this thread "Burning the American Flag". What about the British flag, the French flag, the German flag, or the Australian flag?.. Why not call the topic "flag burning" instead. Anyway.. that doesn't mean you're the only ones like that. Practically all nations show that kind of patriotism in some form.. The only example I can think of which I know is my own country- we refuse to join Europe fully, because we're too proud of what we are at the moment. Part of it is fear of change, I think, but it's mostly pride. The flag burning thing is just a big issue with you guys I suppose- If someone burned a british flag we probably wouldn't know what to make of it (which is why people rarely do it, I think).. By the way, I do oppose to flag burning, but that's more because of the disrespect and hate that it symbolises.. I pretty much oppose to the second kind of patriotism I've described (Not sure what type Mitch was on about)
Originally posted by Vegitto4 our country is to great to have dirt on it's flag
... I'm going to be blunt. That is the biggest display of arrogance I've ever seen.. I'm never normally this blunt, but I actually find it almost offensive that "your country is to great to have dirt on it's flag".. Not because of the dirt part, but because apparently it's just your country that's too great. And that's exactly what I was talking about..

Why didn't I just say "Hey moron!"?
"Don't mean to hurt you but I'm gonna cut your leg off with a rusty saw now" My point is- Mystics Knight never said you were trying to be rude- he just said you were, and that it was a waste of a post, whether you were trying to be rude or not. The same point is often said by a number of people in any one thread, as he was probaly replying to the original post, not the most recent one, as this was his FIRST post in this thread. Anyway.. I think the matter has pretty much been cleared up.. just thought I'd say that MK wasn't saying you tried to be rude..
Originally posted by vegeta rocker More people have been killed in the name of God than anyone else........
And your point is? If someone kills me in the name of Spankey the Monkey, does that make Monkeys evil or does it make the guy who killed me a nut? God doesn't tell people to kill others, people put those words in his mouth. Do NOT get the two mixed up.
Originally posted by SunRiZe I used to be the first example, always believing that only Catholicism was right, and that all other sects and denominations were going to hell, this is the way i was brought up. The power of prayer was that I was able to attend a Christian camp where I learned the truth.
I'm glad you learned that ;) it takes a lot to break away from what you think you've known all your life. As I said, I have no problem with any other denomination.. I tend to not even class myself into a denomination (even though my church is anglican) but, I do strongly disagree with anyone who thinks their denomination alone is the true one, but hasn't really given their life to God (I actually know a few Catholics who think the same way as me, so they're not all of that opinion ;)).
Originally posted by Deedlit Thanks for the link, Bryan. Like I said, I have a friend who's a Wicca, so that really helped me to understand her better. ^_~ It said that they don't harm anyone, and they don't associate themselves with Satan, so I don't understand why some people think badly of Wicca. It just shows how narrow-minded some people are.
If they really do think badly of Wicca, rather than just not agreeing with their beliefs, then yeah, they are extremely narrow minded. Christianity doesn't say that other religions are bad, it simply says that it alone is right, as all the other religions say. I could go on for ages about why Christianity is different, and right, but that's not really what the discussion is about. I know you didn't say "Christianity is against Wicca", but Bryan did.. so I thought I'd correct the issue- Christianity isn't against Wicca, we just believe that it is wrong to use magic. That doesn't mean "Wicca is bad", it just means "We believe that Wicca is wrong", in the same way that we believe other religions are wrong, and they believe that we are wrong. Not one Christian in this thread has actually said "Wicca is bad", and actually made Biblical references, or any other kind of backup for that fact.

I refrained from saying everything I would've done, because I wasn't completely sure if you were Christian or not (I generally discard the obvious ;)), but if I were you I really wouldn't worry about it, and pray like anyone's business that God gives you the courage to ask her ;).. Oh yeah, one last thing, a quote from SoulSurvivor.com the general point is that, yeah, she probably is flirting (actually, the article doesn't say that, but I think so), and she's probably waiting for you to make the move.. (it also says a lot more- I just didn't want to cut it all out)
What Women Want Soul Man. The Dating Game. October 2002 Interview with Martyn Layzell Martyn Layzell conducted a survey last month at Soul Survivor Watford amongst the girls aged 15-30 to discover What Women Want. We caught up with him to get the analysis, to put some definition to what girls want in a relationship, in a man, to define the mystery. Why did you feel the need to do the survey? It was quite simple really. There's a gap between what the guys think the girls want and what the girls actually do want. So I thought instead of trying to guess let's just ask. Surely as Christian guys we want to honour the ladies in our lives and those we come into contact with. Finding out how they tick is the first step in honouring them better, cherishing them more and ultimately helping them to be the women that God has called them to be. What we discovered give us pointers in the whole relationships thing. What were your main findings? One of the biggest shocks was that most girls didn't want to ask a guy out. They were traditional in that sense, wanting Christian men to be chivalrous, to take the lead, to be romantic. The only exceptions were if they thought a guy was a dead cert; if he was really shy, or if they felt the Lord had said to get to know them. The other very strong pattern, was that if you like someone in the church they just want to be told, they don't want to go through the whole flirting game, just a gradual friendship. Guys don't have to get stressed about going on the greatest date. We can just say, "I like you," then they can decide. What were the top three qualities the women surveyed looked for? They wanted their men to: 1.Be passionate for God and worship 2.Have a sense of humour 3.Have an attractive personality/good looks, which I've come to realise is the same thing to a woman. But other qualities after that were generosity, kindness, sensitivity and being interested in people. And the biggest turn offs? The biggest thing they found a turn off was arrogance, boastfulness and big egos, with crude talk. Generally, women did think men pushed boundaries too far and didn't really like flirtatious behaviour - even if some did find that momentarily attractive. For the teens, flirting involved more hugging, while for everyone else it was play fighting, touching while talking, complimenting, wearing each others clothes and texting a lot. Vanity was also a turn off. Not because they didn't want guys turned out well, but they didn't like it if they thought appearance was the most important thing. More important was eye contact, being kind, loving, caring, trustworthy, reliable. BO is a big problem and generally they wanted guys sorting out their personal hygiene more. A helpful hint is not to use body spray but anti-perspirant deodorant. Body Spray doesn't take the BO smell away its like air freshener after you've been to the toilet. Also a turn up for the books was that many, though not all, respondents said that they didn't really want to date people who were shorter than themselves. What were the top date ideas? Well, it turns out that going to the cinema is out of the window, not on your Nellie, a big no-no! Its too anti-social without much eye contact. Women love to be talked to, so the 3 big ones were: 1. Having a meal together 2. Going for a drink, which could mean the pub or going for coffee 3. Going for a walk in a park How representative of the general population do you think the girls at Soul Survivor are then? Well I think they're quite reflective of society around us. They are all in diverse jobs or at school, theyre not like nuns or anything. We've not done teaching on how to expect chivalrous treatment from men. They watch the same TV programmes and movies as everyone else. Thing is, women are made differently to men. It's the thought that counts not the amount of money spent. If it's both that's a bonus. Flowers from a petrol station is not as good as a purposeful journey into a field to pick daisies that are put into a chain and draped on her computer terminal for example! What did they thing of sensitive or emotional men? Most women want emotionally stable men. Guys that can cry and show emotion without feeling they are a wimp, or a wreck was a positive. Lots don't think men communicate emotion very well. How do girls like to be let down? Most have said they want you to be straight, to be honest and don't start dating my best friend the next day! And don't say you don't fancy someone else when you do! What are your conclusions having scanned the research? The surveys clearly show what we already know, that guys and girls are different. It's certainly thrown up some surprises though in a day and age when we're told women want to wear the trousers as much as the man. But guys need to be sensitive to the fact that women work in a different way to how we do and to remember that when they embark on the dating game. Guys shouldn't think how would I be impressed? but how will she be impressed? Whether you're going on a date or turning someone down, there's worth in spending time thinking, not just what if I was in their shoes but "what if I was in their stilettos?" * Martyn Layzell is Assistant Pastor at Soul Survivor Watford where he is heading up Soul Man, the church's response to discipling men. 75 female members of the congregation at Soul Survivor Watford were surveyed, aged 15-30, in September 2002.
Probably feels compassion, but doesn't understand it. 25. Genesis 42 Joseph's Brothers Go to Egypt 1 When Jacob learned that there was grain in Egypt, he said to his sons, "Why do you just keep looking at each other?" 2 He continued, "I have heard that there is grain in Egypt. Go down there and buy some for us, so that we may live and not die." 3 Then ten of Joseph's brothers went down to buy grain from Egypt. 4 But Jacob did not send Benjamin, Joseph's brother, with the others, because he was afraid that harm might come to him. 5 So Israel's sons were among those who went to buy grain, for the famine was in the land of Canaan also. 6 Now Joseph was the governor of the land, the one who sold grain to all its people. So when Joseph's brothers arrived, they bowed down to him with their faces to the ground. 7 As soon as Joseph saw his brothers, he recognized them, but he pretended to be a stranger and spoke harshly to them. "Where do you come from?" he asked. "From the land of Canaan," they replied, "to buy food." 8 Although Joseph recognized his brothers, they did not recognize him. 9 Then he remembered his dreams about them and said to them, "You are spies! You have come to see where our land is unprotected." 10 "No, my lord," they answered. "Your servants have come to buy food. 11 We are all the sons of one man. Your servants are honest men, not spies." 12 "No!" he said to them. "You have come to see where our land is unprotected." 13 But they replied, "Your servants were twelve brothers, the sons of one man, who lives in the land of Canaan. The youngest is now with our father, and one is no more." 14 Joseph said to them, "It is just as I told you: You are spies! 15 And this is how you will be tested: As surely as Pharaoh lives, you will not leave this place unless your youngest brother comes here. 16 Send one of your number to get your brother; the rest of you will be kept in prison, so that your words may be tested to see if you are telling the truth. If you are not, then as surely as Pharaoh lives, you are spies!" 17 And he put them all in custody for three days. 18 On the third day, Joseph said to them, "Do this and you will live, for I fear God: 19 If you are honest men, let one of your brothers stay here in prison, while the rest of you go and take grain back for your starving households. 20 But you must bring your youngest brother to me, so that your words may be verified and that you may not die." This they proceeded to do. 21 They said to one another, "Surely we are being punished because of our brother. We saw how distressed he was when he pleaded with us for his life, but we would not listen; that's why this distress has come upon us." 22 Reuben replied, "Didn't I tell you not to sin against the boy? But you wouldn't listen! Now we must give an accounting for his blood." 23 They did not realize that Joseph could understand them, since he was using an interpreter. 24 He turned away from them and began to weep, but then turned back and spoke to them again. He had Simeon taken from them and bound before their eyes. 25 Joseph gave orders to fill their bags with grain, to put each man's silver back in his sack, and to give them provisions for their journey. After this was done for them, 26 they loaded their grain on their donkeys and left. 27 At the place where they stopped for the night one of them opened his sack to get feed for his donkey, and he saw his silver in the mouth of his sack. 28 "My silver has been returned," he said to his brothers. "Here it is in my sack." Their hearts sank and they turned to each other trembling and said, "What is this that God has done to us?" 29 When they came to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan, they told him all that had happened to them. They said, 30 "The man who is lord over the land spoke harshly to us and treated us as though we were spying on the land. 31 But we said to him, 'We are honest men; we are not spies. 32 We were twelve brothers, sons of one father. One is no more, and the youngest is now with our father in Canaan.' 33 "Then the man who is lord over the land said to us, 'This is how I will know whether you are honest men: Leave one of your brothers here with me, and take food for your starving households and go. 34 But bring your youngest brother to me so I will know that you are not spies but honest men. Then I will give your brother back to you, and you can trade [1] in the land.' " 35 As they were emptying their sacks, there in each man's sack was his pouch of silver! When they and their father saw the money pouches, they were frightened. 36 Their father Jacob said to them, "You have deprived me of my children. Joseph is no more and Simeon is no more, and now you want to take Benjamin. Everything is against me!" 37 Then Reuben said to his father, "You may put both of my sons to death if I do not bring him back to you. Entrust him to my care, and I will bring him back." 38 But Jacob said, "My son will not go down there with you; his brother is dead and he is the only one left. If harm comes to him on the journey you are taking, you will bring my gray head down to the grave [2] in sorrow." Genesis 43 The Second Journey to Egypt 1 Now the famine was still severe in the land. 2 So when they had eaten all the grain they had brought from Egypt, their father said to them, "Go back and buy us a little more food." 3 But Judah said to him, "The man warned us solemnly, 'You will not see my face again unless your brother is with you.' 4 If you will send our brother along with us, we will go down and buy food for you. 5 But if you will not send him, we will not go down, because the man said to us, 'You will not see my face again unless your brother is with you.' " 6 Israel asked, "Why did you bring this trouble on me by telling the man you had another brother?" 7 They replied, "The man questioned us closely about ourselves and our family. 'Is your father still living?' he asked us. 'Do you have another brother?' We simply answered his questions. How were we to know he would say, 'Bring your brother down here'?" 8 Then Judah said to Israel his father, "Send the boy along with me and we will go at once, so that we and you and our children may live and not die. 9 I myself will guarantee his safety; you can hold me personally responsible for him. If I do not bring him back to you and set him here before you, I will bear the blame before you all my life. 10 As it is, if we had not delayed, we could have gone and returned twice." 11 Then their father Israel said to them, "If it must be, then do this: Put some of the best products of the land in your bags and take them down to the man as a gift-a little balm and a little honey, some spices and myrrh, some pistachio nuts and almonds. 12 Take double the amount of silver with you, for you must return the silver that was put back into the mouths of your sacks. Perhaps it was a mistake. 13 Take your brother also and go back to the man at once. 14 And may God Almighty [1] grant you mercy before the man so that he will let your other brother and Benjamin come back with you. As for me, if I am bereaved, I am bereaved." 15 So the men took the gifts and double the amount of silver, and Benjamin also. They hurried down to Egypt and presented themselves to Joseph. 16 When Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the steward of his house, "Take these men to my house, slaughter an animal and prepare dinner; they are to eat with me at noon." 17 The man did as Joseph told him and took the men to Joseph's house. 18 Now the men were frightened when they were taken to his house. They thought, "We were brought here because of the silver that was put back into our sacks the first time. He wants to attack us and overpower us and seize us as slaves and take our donkeys." 19 So they went up to Joseph's steward and spoke to him at the entrance to the house. 20 "Please, sir," they said, "we came down here the first time to buy food. 21 But at the place where we stopped for the night we opened our sacks and each of us found his silver-the exact weight-in the mouth of his sack. So we have brought it back with us. 22 We have also brought additional silver with us to buy food. We don't know who put our silver in our sacks." 23 "It's all right," he said. "Don't be afraid. Your God, the God of your father, has given you treasure in your sacks; I received your silver." Then he brought Simeon out to them. 24 The steward took the men into Joseph's house, gave them water to wash their feet and provided fodder for their donkeys. 25 They prepared their gifts for Joseph's arrival at noon, because they had heard that they were to eat there. 26 When Joseph came home, they presented to him the gifts they had brought into the house, and they bowed down before him to the ground. 27 He asked them how they were, and then he said, "How is your aged father you told me about? Is he still living?" 28 They replied, "Your servant our father is still alive and well." And they bowed low to pay him honor. 29 As he looked about and saw his brother Benjamin, his own mother's son, he asked, "Is this your youngest brother, the one you told me about?" And he said, "God be gracious to you, my son." 30 Deeply moved at the sight of his brother, Joseph hurried out and looked for a place to weep. He went into his private room and wept there. 31 After he had washed his face, he came out and, controlling himself, said, "Serve the food." 32 They served him by himself, the brothers by themselves, and the Egyptians who ate with him by themselves, because Egyptians could not eat with Hebrews, for that is detestable to Egyptians. 33 The men had been seated before him in the order of their ages, from the firstborn to the youngest; and they looked at each other in astonishment. 34 When portions were served to them from Joseph's table, Benjamin's portion was five times as much as anyone else's. So they feasted and drank freely with him. Genesis 44 A Silver Cup in a Sack 1 Now Joseph gave these instructions to the steward of his house: "Fill the men's sacks with as much food as they can carry, and put each man's silver in the mouth of his sack. 2 Then put my cup, the silver one, in the mouth of the youngest one's sack, along with the silver for his grain." And he did as Joseph said. 3 As morning dawned, the men were sent on their way with their donkeys. 4 They had not gone far from the city when Joseph said to his steward, "Go after those men at once, and when you catch up with them, say to them, 'Why have you repaid good with evil? 5 Isn't this the cup my master drinks from and also uses for divination? This is a wicked thing you have done.' " 6 When he caught up with them, he repeated these words to them. 7 But they said to him, "Why does my lord say such things? Far be it from your servants to do anything like that! 8 We even brought back to you from the land of Canaan the silver we found inside the mouths of our sacks. So why would we steal silver or gold from your master's house? 9 If any of your servants is found to have it, he will die; and the rest of us will become my lord's slaves." 10 "Very well, then," he said, "let it be as you say. Whoever is found to have it will become my slave; the rest of you will be free from blame." 11 Each of them quickly lowered his sack to the ground and opened it. 12 Then the steward proceeded to search, beginning with the oldest and ending with the youngest. And the cup was found in Benjamin's sack. 13 At this, they tore their clothes. Then they all loaded their donkeys and returned to the city. 14 Joseph was still in the house when Judah and his brothers came in, and they threw themselves to the ground before him. 15 Joseph said to them, "What is this you have done? Don't you know that a man like me can find things out by divination?" 16 "What can we say to my lord?" Judah replied. "What can we say? How can we prove our innocence? God has uncovered your servants' guilt. We are now my lord's slaves-we ourselves and the one who was found to have the cup." 17 But Joseph said, "Far be it from me to do such a thing! Only the man who was found to have the cup will become my slave. The rest of you, go back to your father in peace." 18 Then Judah went up to him and said: "Please, my lord, let your servant speak a word to my lord. Do not be angry with your servant, though you are equal to Pharaoh himself. 19 My lord asked his servants, 'Do you have a father or a brother?' 20 And we answered, 'We have an aged father, and there is a young son born to him in his old age. His brother is dead, and he is the only one of his mother's sons left, and his father loves him.' 21 "Then you said to your servants, 'Bring him down to me so I can see him for myself.' 22 And we said to my lord, 'The boy cannot leave his father; if he leaves him, his father will die.' 23 But you told your servants, 'Unless your youngest brother comes down with you, you will not see my face again.' 24 When we went back to your servant my father, we told him what my lord had said. 25 "Then our father said, 'Go back and buy a little more food.' 26 But we said, 'We cannot go down. Only if our youngest brother is with us will we go. We cannot see the man's face unless our youngest brother is with us.' 27 "Your servant my father said to us, 'You know that my wife bore me two sons. 28 One of them went away from me, and I said, "He has surely been torn to pieces." And I have not seen him since. 29 If you take this one from me too and harm comes to him, you will bring my gray head down to the grave [1] in misery.' 30 "So now, if the boy is not with us when I go back to your servant my father and if my father, whose life is closely bound up with the boy's life, 31 sees that the boy isn't there, he will die. Your servants will bring the gray head of our father down to the grave in sorrow. 32 Your servant guaranteed the boy's safety to my father. I said, 'If I do not bring him back to you, I will bear the blame before you, my father, all my life!' 33 "Now then, please let your servant remain here as my lord's slave in place of the boy, and let the boy return with his brothers. 34 How can I go back to my father if the boy is not with me? No! Do not let me see the misery that would come upon my father." Genesis 45 Joseph Makes Himself Known 1 Then Joseph could no longer control himself before all his attendants, and he cried out, "Have everyone leave my presence!" So there was no one with Joseph when he made himself known to his brothers. 2 And he wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him, and Pharaoh's household heard about it. 3 Joseph said to his brothers, "I am Joseph! Is my father still living?" But his brothers were not able to answer him, because they were terrified at his presence. 4 Then Joseph said to his brothers, "Come close to me." When they had done so, he said, "I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt! 5 And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you. 6 For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will not be plowing and reaping. 7 But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance. [1] 8 "So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt. 9 Now hurry back to my father and say to him, 'This is what your son Joseph says: God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me; don't delay. 10 You shall live in the region of Goshen and be near me-you, your children and grandchildren, your flocks and herds, and all you have. 11 I will provide for you there, because five years of famine are still to come. Otherwise you and your household and all who belong to you will become destitute.' 12 "You can see for yourselves, and so can my brother Benjamin, that it is really I who am speaking to you. 13 Tell my father about all the honor accorded me in Egypt and about everything you have seen. And bring my father down here quickly." 14 Then he threw his arms around his brother Benjamin and wept, and Benjamin embraced him, weeping. 15 And he kissed all his brothers and wept over them. Afterward his brothers talked with him. 16 When the news reached Pharaoh's palace that Joseph's brothers had come, Pharaoh and all his officials were pleased. 17 Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Tell your brothers, 'Do this: Load your animals and return to the land of Canaan, 18 and bring your father and your families back to me. I will give you the best of the land of Egypt and you can enjoy the fat of the land.' 19 "You are also directed to tell them, 'Do this: Take some carts from Egypt for your children and your wives, and get your father and come. 20 Never mind about your belongings, because the best of all Egypt will be yours.' " 21 So the sons of Israel did this. Joseph gave them carts, as Pharaoh had commanded, and he also gave them provisions for their journey. 22 To each of them he gave new clothing, but to Benjamin he gave three hundred shekels [2] of silver and five sets of clothes. 23 And this is what he sent to his father: ten donkeys loaded with the best things of Egypt, and ten female donkeys loaded with grain and bread and other provisions for his journey. 24 Then he sent his brothers away, and as they were leaving he said to them, "Don't quarrel on the way!" 25 So they went up out of Egypt and came to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan. 26 They told him, "Joseph is still alive! In fact, he is ruler of all Egypt." Jacob was stunned; he did not believe them. 27 But when they told him everything Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the carts Joseph had sent to carry him back, the spirit of their father Jacob revived. 28 And Israel said, "I'm convinced! My son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him before I die." --One last note: I left out Genesis 38 because that was about something completely different altogether
