1. *reads the thread after my last post*.. oh.. I seee... In the UK, we're not big on letters in phone numbers. It's a little bit more common now than it used to be, say, 5 years ago.. but we tend to just use the numbers instead.. it's just the way we are.. but yeah.. on most phones in the UK, the Q is on the 7 key, and the Z is on the 9 key. As far as I know, it's always been that way. The rest probably don't have letters on at all (I used to wonder for a long time what the letters were for, the first time we got a phone with letters on)
  2.
Originally posted by Kaiba's Angel I will forever be...
Don't use that word (forever) lightly... You never know when you may want to change your mind about it..
  3. mheh.. I think the whole thing has lost the point.. I mean.. people are getting voted out because everyone likes them.. I don't think that was quite what was intended.. so yeah.. I think the "block them from other forums" idea sounded good.. but it kind of backfired.. ^^ unless this was actually intended.. in which case I retract that statement..
  4. mhmmm.. it seems almost as though there's a depression bug going round OB at the moment.. I don't generally get depressed very often. I can get really freaked out -borderline paranoid but not quite on the "they are watching" level- but that's not quite the same thing. All I can really say is I tend to handle depression pretty well, so it's just never been a problem for me. By far, the things you know most about are those things you've had to struggle to come to terms with. Ultimately, these days, when I start feeling depressed, I just.. handle it, somehow.. Usually depression is accompanied by the feeling that you just aren't worth this life that you've been given.. I remember a peice of advice I once gave to someone on these boards.. about 3 weeks ago now.. "Whenever the thoughts that you aren't worth it come into your head, just discard them. Reject them in the same way that you would reject bad food that would make you ill, because ultimately, it's going to do a similar thing to you". That's the only advice I can really give.. I just happen to be able to do that really well.. Of course.. that doesn't necessarily work for everyone..
  5.
Originally posted by James I'd rather have anime/gaming avatars. ^.^ If you're naming your avatar after an object and not a character, you can just name it after the object (ie: GameCube.gif).
Oh right.. what I actually meant was "miscellaneous".. as in.. the ones that don't really relate to anything at all ^^; but yeah.. I'll leave those ones out
Originally posted by Armadillomon what about this?
*refers to quote below*
Originally posted by James  Please don't post avatars here. None of them will be used. They really must be emailed. All I can say is "refer to the first post". It contains all the necessary details. ^.^;;
;)
  6.
Originally posted by James I guess primarily they should be based on series that we actually have here on the boards and on theOtaku.com. But generally, it doesn't matter. Any game/anime series is fine. ^.^
Surely you're ok to have "miscellaneous" avatars, too...?..
  7.
Originally posted by Mystic's Knight Im glad that the music goes with it.. *sings along happily* :)
I'm glad someone likes it ;) though I'm really gonna have to sort out that piano track at some point.. I mean.. it sounds fine, but it's a bit repetitive, and completely impossible for me to actually play...
  8. I actually noticed that on both this and the last one, too.. I just didn't say anything last time.. but yeah, as you all said, the rhyming pattern is dodgy.. It's best to either make it rhyme, or just don't, rather than switching half way through.. but yeah.. apart from that I liked it.. ;)
  9.
Originally posted by Mitch I didn't blatantly say this was pointless, but I suppose that is what I was implying.
Note to self: disclaimers are a good thing I didn't actually mean to say that you actually said, or even implied "this is pointless", quite as bluntly as that.. I guess I should have stated that.. what I was trying to say is that there is just as much a place for the simple as there is for the deep and meaningful, and that no one is any more pointless than the other. That wasn't actually meant as a reference to your point at all ;) But I really don't need to make that whole point again.. just so you know.. I'm not arguing with you in any way, I'm just correcting myself.. ^^;
  10.
Originally posted by Mitch Well, I'll tell you the blunt truth of my opinion... I don't like it. I like the beat, but all the rest of it, I rather loathe. I mean, it seems to have no point, nothing which I can grasp and feel some kind of love and admiration and understanding for. And with a poem, it needs to have a firm point, and grow on it, and think about it deeply.
Allow me to make a comparison to worship songs.. because that's just my area of 'expertise'.. You see, there's two kinds of worship songs.. the first kind, may go something like this: "O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder, Consider all the works thy hand hath made I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed Then sings my Soul, my Saviour God, to thee, How great thou art, How great thou art Then sings my Soul, my Saviour God, to thee, How great thou art, How great thou art" And, just so you know.. that song has three more verses which don't get any less heavy on the wordage ;).. then, there's the complete opposite: "Hey Lord, O Lord, Hey Lord, You know what we need (repeat) la la la la la la la la la, la la la la la la la, la la la la la la... (repeat)" Most decent worship leaders that I know of (in the UK) have used both of those songs (occasionally in the same evening) at some point, as well as many more of the same types, and there are lots of songs somewhere in between. And worship leaders aren't the kind of people to not take this stuff seriously- when you believe you're singing to your God, you don't tend to do it just for fun. So yeah... my point is.. "just because it doesn't seem to mean as much, doesn't mean it's pointless"..
  11. Yet another person forced to read this thread I thought it was.. good.. to be honest. I'm not much for huge descriptions of why something is good.. All I can say is that you're beyond my level of criticism when it comes to this sort of thing ^^;
  12. ...It just hit me the other day.. at christmas, the only people I usually get presents for, except for family, are workmates.. and, uh.. due to.. "really bad circumstances" (which some of you know, and the rest I don't really want to tell) I don't work anymore.. so it just kind of hit me the other day. However.. now I know more people at uni than last year, so I really don't know. Anyway.. when I was working I usually got CD's and stuff for my best buddies.. something tasty for people I thought were OK.. and just a card for people I didn't really like.. oh yeah, and a box of chocolates, for everyone to share. There was a whole rank system based on who got what from me.. lol. ^^
  13. I had some spare time (kind of- I have lots of spare time) so I decided to make a midi file of the song ^^. So now you can actually hear what it should sound like. There are two tracks on the midi file. No.. actualy there's three.. the bass piano track (piano, left hand) the treble piano track (piano, right hand) and the melody (which is what the words would sound like- unfortunately it's impossible to make a midi file with actual lyrics, unless you wanted it to be huge). Oh yeah.. here are the words to the actual song (only minor differences to the above- mostly repeats, and the use of a bridge section)) ____________________ All our lives we were sinners, doomed to die Then you saved us, took us from that life We?re no better now, but you choose to forgive us Only through your power can we resist sin Even in the desert you are there, watching over us Ready to lead us back to you We could never live without your love, your eternal love And your grace that sets us free Even now we?re led astray when we take your grace for granted Change us now, bring us back to you Through your blood and your spirit, give us power to overcome Evil urges, unholy thoughts Even in the desert you are there, watching over us Ready to lead us back to you We could never live without your love, your eternal love And your grace that sets us free (Repeat) When we are far from you still you look on with love Take us as we are and cleanse us in your blood (Repeat) Even in the desert you are there, watching over us Ready to lead us back to you We could never live without your love, your eternal love And your grace that sets us free Note: with regards to the second part of the chorus, I normally sing "I could never live without your love", purely out of habit. Apart from that, it's all correct.
  14. heh.. new worship song.. but this time I've made a midi file of how it plays.. (just so you know.. I can't play the whole piano part yet.. cos it's a lot easier to write it than to play it and sing at the same time.. (the piano track is more repetitive than I'd like.. what can I say.. it was a rush job, you're not here to criticise the piano track ;)..) ------------- Lord, have Mercy is my prayer For the people of the Earth Lord, Forgive us is my prayer For Your people today, and forever more All the people will rejoice in You On that day when You come down again All the people will rejoice in You On that day when You come down again Lord, have Mercy is my prayer For the people of the Earth Send Your Spirit is my prayer For the people of the Earth Give us courage us is my prayer For Your people today, and ?til You return heh.. I trust you can figure out for yourselves what's going on when a section repeats ;) (PS. the organ is the melody track, in case you couldn't tell) I had to attach a zip file.. midi isn't valid, apparently
  15. Really Cool ;) Though I'll be the first to admit that half of what makes the lyrics is the music.. Whenever I post up lyrics for songs I've made, or put them in my blog, or my sig here.. they just don't have the same.. "hitting power" I guess.. as when you actually hear them.. but yeah.. that was just a pointless statement, really.. my main point is.. "great lyrics" ;)
  16. I feel incredibly stupid... we don't learn that sort of thing over here in the UK.. or, if we do, we never paid enough attention to it.. I honestly thought at first that it was the second.. purely because I see it that the person said "Wait" rather than "Wait," ... but that's physics style logic for you ^^; edit: No... I didn't even bother using the poll ;)
  17.
Originally posted by Sere Tuscumbia To quote the bible (oooo, I'm promoting religion! Bad me! BAD! :rolleyes: Sheesh.): With my very last breath, I want to sing praises. That's what I want to do when I die. Yes, I'll say it right now, most will call me a fake Christian. I don't go to church, I don't really reflect God in all that I do. But really, once you get past all of the glamour, being a Christian is believing in God and praising him.
Anyone calls you a fake Christian, and I'll fwap them over the head with my Bible. Then I'll repent and turn from my evil fwapping ways.. Ignore that last bit.. I'm serious.. you really don't need church to get to know God.. I just go to church anyway.. but if anyone says you're a fake Christian just because you don't go to church, then they have much bigger things to worry about..
  18.
Originally posted by Devidramon And I despise Elvis. I wish he was alive just so I could hunt him down and shove him into a septic tank.
Has it ever occured to you that if the "terrible" singers of the last generation weren't around, then music wouldn't have progressed the way it did?.. I don't personally listen to Elvis, but he was a great singer in his time, and if it weren't for him and all the other musicians of the time, music wouldn't have moved anywhere, and we wouldn't even have this thrashy music people seem to like so much these days. As for me.. I don't have any stuff of the sort you're after to recommend.. I tend to listen to vineyard music, and other worship CD's.. with the odd bit of Stereophonics-style music in there too..

    India.Arie
Originally posted by Endymion India.Arie is a good singer and she's very down to Earth for a famous R&B singer, but maybe she's a little too down to Earth. Like almost all good singers, she talks about how her fame doesn't matter and she would give it all up in a second just to be happy, but then she gets to the point where she turns into Snow White (only, you know, black and without the dwarves). She's almost like Gaia from the cartoon Captain Planet. In her latest video... -She looks in the mirror and her soul glows through her body -She walks out her door and a hummingbird gives her a flower, which she puts in her hair -Her guitar is designed with flowers and butterflies and lady bugs. -She plays the guitar in a field of dandilions -She gets interviewed on a talk show, where she stops the conversation to stare at a lady bug on her finger I'm not saying that this is a bad thing, but it's almost disturbing. I mean, the hummingbird was taking it a little too far.
I'm all for being down to earth, but to me that just seems superficially down to earth, as though she's just trying to look that way.. it really doesn't work like that.. The whole point of being down to earth is it just happens, rather than you making it happen..
  20.
Originally posted by Shaun Thanks! I hope I can prove, somehow, someway, to all of you, that I am not one fo those people. You're a sound guy, and I wish for you the best in wherever life, and the spirit takes you.. ;)

    Cristmas
Originally posted by Sara Swindlers? Please. Christmas is a major retail holiday. Why? Because people buy things. Stores make big deals and promotions about Christmas. Why? Because people buy things. Seasonal items are being set out earlier and earlier. Why? Because people buy things. They aren't going to continue to do something that doesn't make them a profit. If the public will buy Christmas stuff in early November, then by gosh, the public is going to have every opportunity for it! So perhaps the idea here is not merely disgust at stores ["They're trying to make money! Good gosh! It's as tho' that's how they stay in business or something!"], but that enough people buy into it for the whole thing to become an issue.
*thumbs up* And also, the owners of these companies don't necessarily see Christmas as just "money making season", they could celebrate it as it was originally intended, for all we know. As you said, it's more down to the public's demand for things to buy, than the company's decision to sell those things. Ultimately, people decide to buy things. It's this thing called "the right to freedom" that peole love so much ;)
Originally posted by Rick Hunter It's sad but most holidays in paticular Christmas and Thanksgiving have lost their true meanings.
That all depends who you ask. I don't celebrate Thanksgiving anyway.. I don't even really understand the whole meaning of that, mostly because I'm not American, but also because we don't really get taught a great deal about American holidays and such here... On the other hand.. Christmas still retains it's original meaning, as it always has. The fact that a large number of people don't actually celebrate it for that reason is besides the point. If I tell you something and you don't understand, and then you go and tell everyone the misunderstood version, my original statement doesn't lose it's meaning, rather, you misinterpreted it. Christmas still means the same as it always did, it's just been misinterpreted along the way..
  24. I'd love to lead worship at a really big Christian event.. that'd be just such a privelige to me.. ^^
