Delerious are pretty good, my fav. song, I think, is I could sing of your love forever. I doubt anyone will know the rest.. they're less bands and more just "worship leaders".. ie. people who write songs/sing songs which are usually sung in more modernised churches. They sound similar at times to Delirious, and I suppose Delirious leads worship too, but in a less "in your face" kind of way..

  3. Here's an RPG I tried to start a long time ago.. it kind of died... in the way that it never even lived... I think because everyone thought it was a play thread when it was actually a sign-up thread.. So yeah.. I've just copied the original post, as of..... NOW! Long ago, amid the chaos of the early universe, there was one prosperous race, named the arkali. A small race, only 35 of them ever existed. No details are known of how they came to be, but the story of their end has been passed down the generations to a select few: "One day, long ago, the peaceful race of the Arkali became under threat by a truly powerful force. They decided that their only chance to preserve their life's work and accumulated knowledge was to merge into 7 powerful beings to combat the force. Each of the 7 beings was a merging of 5 Arkali, one each of their 5 sub-classes- Leader, Warrior, Scholar, Mage and Priest. The 7 beings were able to vanquish the evil force looming over their land, though in the merging process their bodies had to be discarded, only 7 spirits remained. Though successful in defending their land, the arkali themselves were no more." The spirits travel the universe, inhabiting the bodies of beings from the day they are born, and leave the bodies when the hosts die. They provide these beings with unimaginable power, in exchange for the chance to experience life again. But this did not last long. Many of the hosts along the generations used the spirits' power for evil, consumed by their own greed. After a few generations had passed, the evil minds of the hosts had their effect on the spirits, and they too became consumed by dark emotions. Instead of simply allowing the hosts to use their powers, they struggled to dominate the hosts' bodies and minds. Many great wars were caused by the spirits, barely shells of their original selves, with no capacity for rational thought. A few hundred years ago, the generation of 'arkali warriors' at the time realised their power, and set up an institute to try to gain control over their powers. It was found that by resisting the arkali spirits' attempts to gain control, and by using their powers when they were subdued (not in control), after a while the host had almost complete control over the spirit. The arkali warriors, later known as 'the seven emperors' dominated a large part of the galaxy with their seemingly endless powers, and the arkali empire was formed. This empire stood for only 70 years. When news reached all of the kingdoms that the last emperor had died of old age, a massive revolt started, as rebel factions on every planet launched massive attacks against their oppressors, no longer fearing the powerful emperors. Now the arkali empire is nearly completely forgotten, and after 400 years, the worlds that were dominated by it are back to the way they once were. The institute set up by the seven emperors still exists somewhere, concealed in the darker parts of the galaxy. Today, mystics from all around claim to feel a dark, powerful force coming. Those who know the history of the arkali believe it to be the same dark force that threatened the arkali long ago, and hope that somehow all 7 of the current generation of arkali warriors can be united to combat this great force again, as they know that no one else can. What is unknown even to the select few that know of the arkali is that three of the spirits have already 'awakened', a few years ago. The First, the spirit named 'Shadow Wraith' inhabits a commander of a military on a planet near the centre of the galaxy. Shadow Wraith's host never shows his/her (It doesn't matter to me) true power, nor identity, having learned from the example of the seven emperors. Only those that he/she is about to eliminate get to know this. The second, the spirit named 'Fire Storm', inhabits a mercinary, known for reliability and coldness. It is said that something terrible must have happened to the family of Fire Storm's host long ago, as he/she has no recollection of his/her past, and has lost the ability to care for others. In reality, this happened ten years ago, when Fire Storm tried to take control it's host, and had all but succeeded. It's last action before the host drove Fire Storm out of his/her mind was to damage his'her mind in any way it could. The third, the Spirit known as Light Bringer, is the most powerful and aggressive arkali spirit. As a result, it's host is in a constant struggle for sanity, always trying to stop the spirit from taking control. He does not fully understand what is happeneing to him, and finds it hard to keep friends for a long time because of it. There may be others that have already awakened, but nothing is known of them yet. Though the arkali spirits provide their hosts with a great power, it is only a fraction of their full power. From time to time, the arkali spirit takes control over the host. This usually happens in times of great stress, pain, or anger, as the host's mind does not concentrate on blocking the spirit as much. In the process of 'awakening', the spirit suddenly awakes, being dormant until that moment. As the host has no experience in controlling the spirit, the spirit usually has control for one to two hours. When the host manages to block the spirit, he/she regains control, disoriented, and with little memory of what happened other than a vague 'like a dream' kind of memory. When the spirit is in control, a higher amount of power is available to it, but still only a fraction of it's full power. There is a way to unlock the spirits' full powers. All will be revealed later. Post stats like this.... 4. I play the keyboard quite a lot.. leading worship at the church youth group (if you haven't heard me say this before) and sing, too.. it was really hard at first, to sing as well as play, but I've improved massively and now I can actually improvise my playing while singing.. Worship leading can be a bit like Jamming.. all I have is a set of chords, and I just stick to those, but I never actually pre-decide what I'm going to play, so long as it's not too off-track. Sometimes, I even end up singing something different, as I don't really mind improvising a bit. If you have a worship band (which I don't) then it's far better because everyone is just sticking to the chords but improvising a LOT more than I would dare to on my own..

    Cancer

My mum had a very close friend with cancer who died this february.. he was in a lot of pain, mostly due to the chemotherapy.. but one day he just decided to come off the chemotherapy and to just let nature take it's course.. I didn't know him all too well, though.. so that's all I really know without gewtting too inaccurate..
  6. Depends what kind of tough time. In some situations I just face it and that's that.. in others I mope around for ages until eventually I realise I really should just face it. Sometimes, being a Christian worship leader, I think I do what most other Christian worship leaders do- I sing to God about it. Usually, chords and words just come into my head instantaneously. It can be quite annoying when it happens at 3 in the morning, though.. Praying helps, too..
  7. I can see a light around my pillow when there's the right level of light, for some reason.. it doesn't mean my pillow's alive and has an aura, though, does it..? I can control my dreams... when I do dream.. it doesn't happen as often as, say, a year ago, but that's not a sixth sense really, because you're just controlling things in your own head. Sure it's fun, but it has no relevance to the world around you, which the other five senses do, so lucid dreaming isn't a sixth sense.. As for the other stuff.. I don't really believe in a sixth sense.. I believe in ghosts, or demons, as the bible refers to them, and I believe that they can really creep people out, like in Sere's examples.. Deja vu is a funny old thing... but if you think about how many dreams you actually have when you sleep, it's not surprising that it happens even if you don't remember dreaming about it (some people do).. I don't know the exact figure, but everyone has a lot of dreams pretty much every night, but we only tend to remember ones where we wake up mid-dream, so that's likely to be why sometimes we feel as if we've dreamed something before and then end up doing it.. As for people who say they can feel people coming.. maybe they can.. but at the same time, there's a lot of sound that the ear picks up that you just don't consciously hear.. it could be that you are just better at hearing that, such as when someone walks up to you quietly. Of course, if it's really quiet you wouldn't consciously hear the sound, but your brain may pick it up slightly.. Oh, and Phantom, about your abnormal sleep-induced paranormal stuff... that's probably more like jet lag than a sixth sense.. So yeah.. I'm not completely opposed to the idea of a sixth sense (I believe in God, so I think a lot of it comes from him), but some things I think aren't due to one.
  8. "Normal" in terms of people all depends on location. Normal is whatever the majority in any particular area decide it to be. "Normal" in terms of people is all subjective, there's no absolute objective truth. However, in terms of absolute truths, we can never really know what 'Normal' is because we all perceive things so differently that it's impossible for us to tell..
  9.
Originally posted by BabyGirl There is a greater percentage of white people in the US prison system than black. Just thought I'd throw that statisttic out...it kind of screws up that whole stereotype, doesn't it?.
Yeah, that's pretty much what I was trying to get at except I didn't actually know whether there was a greater number or not..
Originally posted by BabyGirl When this 20 year old was working in lawn service, he was working in the projects of Detroit, meaning inner city housing projects where underprivelaged black people don't have to pay for where they live (either that, or it's extremely cheap). While he was cutting the lawns of these projects, black people would be sitting out front of their reidences yelling, "That's right white boy, cut my lawn."? This was coming from black people who didn't even work for a living. Wouldn't that bother you, too?
Yeah, but at the same time I know where they are coming from. As I said in the post before, The prejudice towards whites from some black people stems from the fact that we actually used to make slaves out of them. Whether the present generation ever experienced this or not doesn't really matter, the point is we're now living with what our ancestors did, and this whole prejudice thing is just going round in circles.. Some Blacks hate whites because of what we used to do, so sopme whites hate blacks because the blacks hate them. It takes someone to actually apologise for the pasat, even if he had nothing to do with it, in order to break the circle.
Originally posted by BabyGirl I should probably state one final time that I am not racist, I'm merely leaning toward their point of view that stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason. I would never treat another person differently because of their skin color or ethnic background because that is something that I don't believe in.
Yeah, I'm sorry if that last post seemed like an attack on you, saying you're racist.. it was more of an attack on stereotypes in general. And yeah.. Stereotypes are stereotypes for one reason: because people look at a group of people or things that they don't understand, and all look the same, or have something else in common, so they assume that they are all the same.. And usually, it's the bad things that they point out rather than the good.
  10.
Originally posted by iggy you know what i would do?? Flip a coin best way to decide if u love them both
If you're going to do that you may as well not bother.. I'd imagine that one of the worst things you can tell someone is 'Yeah.. I decided to dump that other person/stick with you cos you happened to be on the tails side of the coin..'
  11.
Originally posted by Mitch And those that can't follow the rules like that after a few times of breaking them are banned. So either they learn their lesson, or they are banned. So it all works in the end.
Yeah, but I was referring more to the fact that the threads are still there, but no one actually checks them (at least, hardly anyone who was considering making another pointless thread), rather than the fact that that menmber posts more threads. There's always a large number of members coming in and making these threads, but the previous threads don't get deleted, so we end up with a mass of pointless, closed threads, whether the members are banned or not. I think a far better idea would just be to have a seperate area with examples of what not to do, like a sub-forum. It sounds pretty stupid, but if someone really was wondering if something was OK, it'd be easy to go into a sub-forum with examples of what not to do and search through it. Also it'd take some of the clutter out of the main forums. If they didn't care, then they're not likely to search regardless of what forum the example is in, so you don't really lose anything, except you may feel easier about deleting threads knowing that there's lots of examples already. (or at least move the thread into the "examples sub-forum")
  12.
Originally posted by gokents Hello, I really do simpithize with you. I would like to know how old the two of you are? I am an older brother, with a younger brother who is seperated by 2 years. We are both at the time where moving out is an issue. with the material in the thread so far, I can really make out whether your bro got taken away or moved out volantarily. Either way, I'm sure your older brother cares.
From what I gather he chose to leave, but wanted the police's help because his dad would have just gone mad if he found out otherwise.. so yeah.. it wasn't explicitly stated I guess, but I think that's the case ~GohanRulz~, Good luck, btw.. I really hope your brother does all right
  13. My main problem with stereotypes is that they're all bad. I have NEVER known a good stereotype. Some people are stereotyped to be stupid, fat, violent, dull, arrogant, and all sorts of other things. You don't have a "smart but nice" stereotype, you have "geeky" and "stuck up". The main problem is, they lead the way to prejudice. It's like BabyGirl said, those two guys don't have much love for African Americans WHY THE HELL NOT!?!.. you can't generalise a group of individual people and think that it's going to be anywhere near universally true. And in the same way, you can't act upon a generalisation in the same way to every individual you come across. Now, I do half agree with you here.. these stereotypes do come from somewhere, otherwise they wouldn't exist. The trouble is we don't take absolutely everything into account. There are a large number of black criminals, which is where that stereotype comes from. What we often forget is that there is also a very large number of white criminals, but we just forget about them, because they're in a completely different "criminal" stereotype. Generally, we make stereotypes of pretty much everything except ourselves. Lots of black people in South Africa follow white people around, My mum knows someone who was hijacked at his home in South Africa, by black people. Why do they do that? Because White people went over there and decided to take over for a long time. Again, it's due to more stereotypes, and you can't say that the stereotypes black people use are any less valid than white people's stereotypes. So yeah... stereotypes came from somewhere.. and I don't fully object to the odd joke about it, as long as it's tasteful and not meant in an offensive way, but I do NOT IN ANY WAY believe that there is ANY absolute truth in stereotypes, as you can't generalise a group of people. To illustrate, I'll stereotype the entire human race: Ignorant, destructive, arrogant and greedy. There are countless examples of people who are actually like this.. so you can't really say it's untrue without dismissing any absolute (i.e. no exceptions) truth in stereotypes as a whole.

  15. Hey... Apparently, I'm Cera.. i could think of worse people to be :) um... that sounded far less patronising in my head... What I mean to say is 'cool'
  16. I pretty much agree with James on this point... I haven't seen a Flash movie thread yet with any actual intelligence going into the majority of the posts. It's not really advertising, so I can see where you're coming from, Phantom.. but Flash movie threads just don't provoke intelligent conversation.. ever.. as far as I've seen..
  17.
Originally posted by Mnemolth Er...okay. I think one of us is missing something. If there is a statement that "There is an exception to every generalisation", then that in itself is a generalisation. If its true then there is an exception to the rule itself, which means there IS out there a generalisation without exception, which would render the statement false. So the statement has to be necessarily false. :D
But it was never explicitly stated that the statement was a generalisation. If the statement is universally true, in which case it's not a generalisation, then all generalisations have exceptions, and statement is not a generalistation but an actual truth. On the other hand, if you look at the last bit of your argument "which means there IS out there a generalisation without exception".. if there are no exceptions then it's not a true generalisation, because the whole point of a generalisation is to just sum up, or average, a group of things, despite the fact that there are many exceptions. A generalisation without exception is not a generalisation but a fundamental truth. I'll give an example from physics: Newton's Laws of Motion are generalisations- they work at the sort of speeds we travel at, but near the speed of light, they break down. Einstein's relativistic Laws of Motion, on the other hand, work for both low and extremely high speeds, and are universally true. Oh, and isawis, the answer to your paradox lies in quantum physics- both statements are both true and false simultaneously

  19.
Originally posted by Mnemolth Yes, that was phrased a little badly. But of course you see the point. Here is the same idea, posed in a different way. "There is an exception to every generalisation". Is this statement true?
yes. If there are no exceptions then it's not a generalisation at all, it's just universally true. My point is.. if someone says "Everything I say to you is a lie", he can be lying, because if he's lying, it doesn't necessarily mean that everything he says is true, it just means that not everything he says is a lie..
  20. I always felt that moving on was always a catch-22... when I was young, I wanted to be older... now that I'm older (though not very old- only 19), I wish I was younger.. back when I actually wondered how someone went about buying a house, and getting a job. Whoa.. that was off-topic, kind of.. I never really feared change too much.. I'm generally quite open minded.. Maybe it's because I'm still young.. I'l actually reminded of a passage in Douglas Adams' last book, "The Salmon of Doubt".. it goes something (but not exactly) like this: Anything that is invented before you are 12 is just part of the natural way the world works Anything that is invented between when you are 12 and 18 is new and exciting and you want one Anything that is invented between when you are 18 and 30 is new and exciting, and is a possible carreer move Anything that is invented between when you are 30 and 50 (I really don't remember this one at all- less so than the others.. I may have accidentally added one of the first two groups as well) Anything that is invented after when you are 60 is against the natural order of things so yeah... the idea there is that the older you get the more you fear any change of what you already know..
  21. I've heard of that SAD syndrome before.. I know the S stands for Sunlight, and the D stands for Disorder.. but I can never remember what the A stood for.. Here in the UK we don't get much sun anyway, so it's only really relative depression when we get even less... -_-
  22.
Originally posted by James Because she's Ozzy's dad.
  ... James.. I think you should re-word that... Ozzy was her dad...
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel It's funny how this seems to cause more of an uproar than the million and one things someone like Puff Daddy has done in recent months. All of which were infinitely worse in comparison.
Semjaza Azazel I think the major difference is that puff daddy is just blatantly wrong.. you can't say 'he's not bad at all', even if you actually like him.. it's just that some people choose to think that he's cool because of what he does. If anyone thinks I'm wrong on that, it's just a generalisation, so it's not meant to be completely accurate for everyone.. The difference is, we can actually debate whether Christina Aguilera is actually acting in an unresponsible way or whatever, whereas it wouldn't be half as interesting if everyone was agreeing that puff daddy has done bad things, but making semi-interesting posts..

Anyway.. my name comes from a few places.. Firstly.. I love Deus Ex (the game) Secondly.. I eventually realised that Deus Ex was actually part of the latin term "Deus Ex Machina" I eventually found out what Deus Ex Machina means, but I've done that far to many times to bother again, so just look ;). Anyway.. the name has kind of stuck... I have a new AOL name though: "NutBallManDamner".. that's much more simple. One day, me and my brother were taking turns to say random stuff and I blurted out "DAMN YOU NUT-BALL MAN!!!"
