Valentines Day??.. and no one told me?? heh.. nah, of course I knew.. my birthday is feb. 9th (or was, I should say), so whenever it comes around I know that V-Day is inevitable.. but other than that I hardly notice it (any more) because.. well, I suppose it's my personal defense against bitterness..

yeah.. heh I do my best thinking there, imagining that I'm talking to people.. it works really quite well..

But personally, I think you've got a huge attitude problem these days, now that you're this "professional" 3D Max and photoshop dude. There's a difference between saying what you feel about everything and turning your nose up to everything you could do yourself in a short time.. My Dad teaches 3D studio max, and he certainly wouldn't have an attitude like that towards someone else's work. Because the problem is, you're looking at the process, whereas the rest of us lowly people are looking at the end result.. try looking at the actual picture rather than simply commenting on how long it'd take you to do the same thing. If you can't do that, I really hope you don't become a professional artist, cos there are enough like that already. w.r.t. the graphic in question..
Originally posted by gokents I wanted to mention on a side note that christians do believe in two different types or categories of sins... venial sins and cardinal sins. The venial sins are less important things and cardinal sins are those mortal sins that "will send you to hell" or something like that.
It all depends what you mean by "Christian". No offence to Catholics, but they invented a lot of traditions and beliefs along the way which are a load of.. yeah.. I'll not elaborate on what they are.. but I consider them less "leading to God" and more "in the way of God". Jesus stated clearly that all can be forgiven regardless of their sins. If some twelfth century guy says it's all a matter of magnitude, I'd suggest he thought into the whole forgiveness thing a bit more.. well I would, but he's dead.. so yeah.. PS Gokents: this isn't meant to say "you're wrong", but "not all Christians believe that" ;) with regards to discrimination against homosexuals.. yeah, there is a lot.. I knew a guy at my high school who eventually came out. Literally overnight, his only friends were me, my friend Pete, and the girls in our group. In comparison, before that he was in our "group" of about 20 or so people (not everyone knew each other really well but we were all friends, in a british kind of way)
Originally posted by gokents Go look up sodomy in the dictionary. It means oral or anal sex.
Heh.. funny story behind that.. "Sodomy" all goes back to the first half of Genesis in the Bible.. Whether the story is true or not, the story goes that God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for what we call "Sodomy" today (Sodom was inhabited by the Sodomites: The dictionary defines a Sodomite as "one who practices Sodomy" or something similar) where what actually happened in Sodom to provoke God into doing this was more Gang Rape, than what we define as Sodomy, which is a completely different thing altogether again. My point is that the definition of the word is much broader than the context it originated from. With regards to the question, I knew a fair amount of extremely stereotypical guys in school, and I can pretty much say that the reason most heterosexual men think in that way is as follows.. Reasoning for "Gay guys are bad": They always have been. Everyone thinks so. It's the way it's always been. And considering how sex-crazed we stereotypical straight men are, those gay guys must be after every guy they look at. Reasoning for "Gay girls are good": Wait.. two girls?.. in the same place?.. at the same time?.. doing what?!? *grabs popcorn*.. Just to be clear on that.. that's based on this particular group of people I knew.. who called women "it" (as opposed to "her"), hated any music by black people because "it's black (the actual word is stronger than "black, and is censored on here) ****", and supported the BNP.. (if you're not british you may not know what this is.. think "KKK" kind of thing, but more political about the way they do things..) With regards to the whole "bigger sin" issue that JC pointed out... I'm not typing up a whole new rant, I'm gonna copy an old one you can find in my "real world" blog..
Originally posted in Real World Remember the parable of the field?.. I really don't think it was called that, but then I'm just reciting from memory.. A man owned a field, and went out to find people to work in it. Some started at the beginning of the day, some came in the middle, some came right at the end and only did an hour of work, but they all worked till the end of the day. The owner paid them all one silver coin. The first workers protested "Why are you paying them the same as us, when we've worked all day". the owner replied "I will do with my money what I wish". (very short version from memoey- likely to be inaccurate in details but same general point) That parable is essentially saying "it doesn't matter when you decide to come and give yourself to God, either way you'll get the same reward". The only necessity is that you do actually find God, there are no other restrictions, despite those that people want to be there, such as: People who are evil: Already been through that.. God forgives all Prostitutes/Sexual Sinners: Jesus talked to a few. You know what he did? *voice from back*: damn them to hell?.. Not quite. He talked to them. He forgave them. He showed interest in them when no-one else would. (and because that's covered, I won't go into this too far) Homosexuals: Jesus never talked to a homosexual. Hence they seem such easy "prey" for some preachers when it comes to talking about sin. Some of the few things in the bible relating to this issue are: The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah- which is often quoted but I don't actually count as related to this issue. What happened here was not what we see as homosexuality today. A whole town of men demanding that the two men (Which happened to be Angels) staying with Lot would come out so they could "have sexual intercourse" with them. Somehow I think the language would have been more "colourful" than that. That's pretty much what we consider gang-rape these days, which isn't quite the same thing. The rules in Exodus/Leviticus (I forget which)- "Any man who has sexual intercourse with another man should be put to death" or something like that. The thing is, since Jesus never came across a homosexual, it's near impossible to find a related counter-scripture to anyone who damns homosexuals because of it. but what we do know is that he came across several people who should be put to death by the same set of rules, and he forgave them. So why not homosexuality? If we were to truly ask "What Would Jesus Do", as so many wristbands ask, what would we find? I recently read a short book, not on this particular issue, but where Jesus came down to Earth again (it wasn't about the second coming, it was kind of like if the first time happened again, today), and went to a certain church in England. About half way through, a homosexual member of another congregation urgently wants to speak to Jesus to sort his life out, and to seek help. He's always been taught that it was wrong, and is ashamed to talk to his church leaders about it. So what does Jesus do? He doesn't even quote anything related to the issue. He doesn't quote scripture at all. He talks to the man. Asks him about himself, and generally shows that he cares. he then arranges to play pool in the pub with him at a later date. I was seriously.. not exactly "moved" but "wowed" by that when I read it.. because that is exactly what Jesus would do, and I never quite realised. So yeah.. there really are NO restrictions at all, other than knowing God.
I'm not getting into a debate about whether that's right or not- but that's the standpoint most Christians should have

Breaking Up: Advice Needed Desperately! (please read)
Dan L replied to Lady Macaiodh's topic in General Discussion
let's just say I kind of have conflicting ideals on this issue.. I think my advice would be not to look specifically for someone else (which you've said you're not anyway) but to wait until you've found someone else.. and never to really close yourself to the possibility, but not to jump at every person you see either (I know you don't.. that's just the most extreme example) I'd also have to agree with treton noir on that.. on a legal standpoint it's probably best, if you do find someone before it's resolved, to start off as friends rather than get into anything just yet. But you may decide you don't want to, and it's all up to you.. -
requirements to be a mod: 1- lots of money 2- you must give all you own to Adam and James and proclaim them your rulers 3- don't bug people endlessly about wanting to be a mod (I don't consider this kind of thing "bugging" so don't think I'm hinting at anything here) 2 out of those 3 rules are fake. The other one is less of a requirement, more of an "unwritten rule" of sorts (unless it is written, in which case it'll be a written rule of sorts) if you can't guess which ones correctly, then the minute you become a mod, I leave.. (OK.. that sounds harsher than it's meant.. heh.. but seriously.. I'd be worried if anyone guessed wrong..) small note: "I might want to get into it sometime or another" isn't really how it works..

heh.. we do have some crazy laws.. apparently you're not allowed to eat mince pies on Christmas day or something stupid like that o_O.. but I've never seen that one even noticed.. I think the dancing law only applies to London though.. I've never seen any "no dancing" signs around here..

Just read through this for a sec... Essentialy what I'm asking here is "is it really necessary to ban dancing in pubs".. I mean, come on.. Don't the british government have far better things to do with their time than to decide that "rhythmic movement" should be disallowed without the proper license?.. I think it's fairly obvious where I stand on the matter.. I find it moronic and more restrictive than could possibly be necessary..
http://www.musiciansunion.org.uk/articles/two_in_a_bar16.shtml Pubs fined over dancing drinkers By Adam Blenford, Evening Standard 22 November 2002 Each week thousands of drinkers flock to the West End's two huge Pitcher and Piano pubs as part of a night out in London. In these smart modern premises, music and drinking go hand in hand. But now the pubs' owners have been fined £5,000 after small groups of customers were spotted dancing - in breach of licensing laws which ban "rhythmic moving". Westminster council inspectors took the Pitcher and Piano to task after they spotted a total of 20 people enjoying themselves a little too much on three occasions. The first time, they caught four people dancing. They returned later that day to catch five people in the act. On another occasion, 11 drinkers were spotted indulging in what the council described as "rhythmic moving". Wolverhampton and Dudley Breweries, which runs the central London's two Pitcher and Piano pubs on William IV Street off the Strand and Dean Street in Soho, insists that signs on the walls at the pubs warn customers that dancing is banned. Bar staff are also instructed to turn the music down if they spot a rhythmic outbreak. But the inspectors decided that patrons of the Pitcher and Piano were routinely breaking the terms of the pub's licence, which does not allow dancing. Wolverhampton and Dudley pleaded guilty at a London magistrates court and were fined £2,500 for each offence, plus costs of £1,600. Derek Andrews, Wolverhampton and Dudley's managed house boss, said: "We have spent ages trying to stop people dancing. We have signs up everywhere, managers instruct customers, we turn the music down, rearrange the furniture and so on. "On a personal note, I would like to say that, to the best of my knowledge, spontaneous dancing is not in the top 10 list of great social ills of our time." Westminster council has also served two written warnings to another pub in Wardour Street about people found "swaying". Dancing is only allowed if premises have been granted a public entertainment licence - and precisely what this means was spelt out by Bob Currie, Westminster's director of the community protection department, in a letter quoted in The Publican. "Dancing could be described as the rhythmic moving of the legs, arms and body usually changing positions within the floor space available and whether or not accompanied by musical support." Westminster council further explained today: "Premises providing music and dancing are required as a matter of law to obtain a licence. "For this reason our inspectors visit premises. We need to observe whether a premises is encouraging entertainment and encouraging people to dance. The two premises of Pitcher and Piano were advised that they were encouraging music and dancing and that they should apply for a licence, they did not." However, the prosecution is likely to confuse drinkers and anger publicans, coming as the Government pushes through plans to and allow pubs to open for 24 hours a day. Westminster council have opposed the extension of licensing laws, complaining that longer opening hours will attract more noise and crime to central London.
I believe that smoking is abusing the body.. but then much of what people do these days is. I'm not one to condemn, though. Do what you want, just don't get me into it. Sorry for the unusually short post.. I just wanted to get to the point..

It all depends.. the 80's "stereotype" of music, I'm not overly fond of. the sort of heavily synthesized stuff. In fact, most of today's music is synthesized.. but the synths actually sound better, heh.. There's a lot of 80's music that isn't really like that though. I love U2's 80's stuff.. and to be honest they haven't changed their style a great deal since then and it still works today.. so yeah.. I don't hate all music from the 80s, but I don't like the over-synthesised 80s stereotype of music.
Originally posted by master your lucky are teachers arent like that here on the island we have to make the teachers look bad by thinking faster then them. And tricks like that aren't going to get you a good grade.. You don't get asked in an exam "Add up all the numbers from 1 to 100 in under 10 seconds", you get asked things which involve actual thinking and don't have short-cuts. So yeah.. You'll be the one who looks stupid if you think that kind of thing can get you a good grade..

heh.. I tried not to be judgemental, but I was always mildly skeptocal (so I didn't comment before now) but that was before there was actual evidence being shown. I really don't know how to begin to comment. I'm half in support of a "war", but less of a war against Saddam, and more of a prevention of him hurting more people. Ultimately, as long as you (not you personally but anyone in the war) do only what you have to, and don't kill for the sake of it.. I just don't think talking will work in this case.. heh.. :(

I like the system in 7.. I just like the whole thing with materia carrying abilities and levelling up as you use them. As for 8.. I'm playing that right now (not right now, obviously), and the Junction system is easy to understand, but far too magic-dependant, in my opinion. Without any magic Junctions, the characters have very little strength whatsoever. The HP and attributes don't go up a huge amount from the start of the game, and the increase due to junctioning is set, rather than proportional to the size of the value. In short, if you could cheat 100 ultimas, and other strong magic into your file at the start of the game, you'd have no problems at all until near the end. I played too little of 9, too long ago to actually comment on the system. I liked the sphere grid in 10 as well, as it was.. well.. progressive, but not set.
