That last line was absolutely apalling, as well. It left a disgusting taste in my mouth along the lines of 'you can only be someone important and cool if you have a big-*** gun'.
A lot of the gore was unrealistic and unnecessary (yes, I know it's a comic book, and having
Morgan Freeman swear for the hell of it
was a rather blatant way to get a cheap laugh out of the intended audience. Having said that, the overall structure of the story was quite interesting, and one or two of the plot twists were nicely done. The most satisfying bit was when he
has that massive rant in the office, because it showed he had a degree of intelligence, which seemed to diminish over the rest of the film
.
What I was trying to say, except I failed. The last line really did bother me, because while I knew (or at least I thought) the director/writer was trying to tell the audience that we should simply "take control" of our lives, the context was just terrible. The way it was done, it was as if they were saying
why haven't you been trained like an assassin yet? Where's your giant sniper?!
.
And now that I think about it, McAvoy's rants about his daily life/office work in the beginning of the movie were probably some of the best parts
.
  2. Or hers, for that matter.
  3.  Gaahhh! [strike]Where do you live?[/strike] (I see you live in Florida...I live in Georgia. *rage*) I'm still waiting for my AP scores! While most of my friends have called in (those traitors, I will never fall for Collegeboard), my and two of my friends check our mailboxes right when we get up. I just want them to come. ;_;
Personally, from what I've seen it just looks like something that would be fun to see at least once.
Yes, it's sort of like Shoot 'Em Up, the movie you're only allowed to watch once.
  5. The new Yugioh AS episode was sort of meh in the beginning, got much better towards the end.
Oh, Mokuba.

  6. My gov teacher was in the Peace Corps, and he enjoyed telling stories (a lot), so we were told stories about the Peace Corps multiple times. From what he's told us, it is a big committment, but you can't count on actually getting in. Plenty of physically fit, intelligent people are denied positions because they don't qualify (i.e. one man my teacher met, a very fit guy who just graduated from Cornell or Dartmouth [I forget which] was denied a position because they deemed him too schedule-oriented). You can always try out and not accept the position if you make it, though. I think it's an awesome idea, I've always thought of doing it. I respect anyone who goes through with it.
  7.
I'm having a hard time trying to convince myself to tune into the series. (It's airing on the Sci-Fi channel somewhere around the end of this month) I'm against protagonists who're kids, unless I'm mistaken about the boy? I'm also 0 for 2 when it comes to Gainax. I did not like FLCL, nor did I care for Dead Leaves, so that makes me even more skeptical about the series.
TTGL is definitely not the "universal" kind of series that everyone will like. It's a satire/homage of mecha shows, being purposely over-the-top and very "so ridiculous it's awesome". Not really anything like Dead Leaves, and I like to think better than FLCL, but at the same time it's not meant to be taken seriously. And in the end, it's an anime series made for anime fans, no matter how pompous that makes me seem (although by no means am I saying "hardcore lol" anime fans must like this series, the fans just all tend to be old anime fans). In regards to the protagonist being a kid, there is a time skip in the series and the protagonist grows up.

    Wanted

I felt bad for the rats. They just wanted peanut butter.
I've never read the comic book, but to me the movie was a mixture of badassness and complete failure. The beginning seemed to build up a cool movie, and I was liking everything until
we find out that a loom of fate (wtf) has a secret binary code (wtf) and that by interpreting this code...(somehow), the names of people the Fraternity must assasinate are given. Ok, so when I thought about it, this was acceptable. It wasn't terrible, and they needed some sort of magical background or something, so I'm still interested.

Then the train scene. Honestly, I think at least 3 train segments full of people just happen to die because Angelina Jolie decides to drive her car into the side of the train. And then more people die by falling into an abyss. And then somehow, after colliding with rocks and being smashed by giant hulks of metal, Angelina Jolie saunters into view (uh..) with her anorexic arms (I'm all for a sexy kickass woman, but seriously).
This sort of turned me off. This was all interlaced with cool training montages and fighting scenes and etc., and
that awesome scene where James McAvoy just tears up everyone while running down the hallway. I can't decide if I thought it was awesome but it really was, or because I think James McAvoy is wonderful.

And I guess the last lines of the movie annoyed me too. It was sort of overkill, the last line, like we didn't understand that one of the movie's themes was to take control of your life. I also don't really like it when characters speak to the audience in a movie. Ferris Bueller being the exception.
So I guess it sounds like I really hated this movie, but it was still a great watch. The three examples of lameness I gave were just three moments*, and the rest of the movie was pretty cool. I don't regret seeing it in theatres at all. *
Bear with me, but I also though Morgan Freeman saying "Oh, ****" and "kill this ************" were so incredibly OOC and lolz.

  9. Speaking of darker halves...
  10. [strike] Uh...just to keep the record straight, I do not find any of the Jonas Bros. attractive. I'm pretty sure that train of thought is limited to 12-15 year olds.[/strike]
  11. Did someone say bishie?
  12. *raises eyebrow* Most rich girls are attractive, but no, that's doesn't beautiful people must be rich. One of my closest friends, and possibly one of the prettiest girls I've met, is neither rich nor dumb.
  13. Be mindful of proportion. In your first picture, the girl's bust alone is wider than her hips. The general idea of the "perfect body" for a female is that her body is shaped like an hourglass, so the width of the shoulders match the width of the hips (but don't get all technical and start measuring the lengths). By no means am I telling that you must draw an hourglass figure, but I think it's a good idea that learning artists get down basic forms before experimenting with other body forms, like athletic, pear-shaped, overweight, etc. But other than that, the biggest feedback I can give you is to practice more! You'll come to see that as you draw more and more, your lines naturally become more confident, which results in sketches with single lines making up greater portions of the drawing. Like jigglyness said, you're on the right track- everything looks pretty good for you! :)
  14. In addition to what Alucard said, you should also try and improve your skills on clothes, wrinkles, folds, etc. In your last drawing, the pant's wrinkles and folds seem more random/drawn for the sake rather than form-fitting, yet the jacket looks stiff and straight. Alucard recommended tutorials, and you can do that, but I think drawing from life is just as good, possibly better, than just tutorials. I'm not saying draw realistically, but crack open an issue of GQ or something (anything with guys' clothing, since you seem to draw mainly males) and observe the way slacks or jeans fit around the legs, what a trench coat/jacket looks like when worn loosely or tightly, all that good stuff. But overall, great job! You seem to have a good hold on proportion, which is always very important. Hope to see more stuff. :)
  15. Your manliness is toppled by the sheer power of its complete opposite.
  16. I was positive that there was a thread for this a while back, but I couldn't find it/it was really far back. But anyways, it's summer and I've spent some of my time watching anime. I just wanted this thread to be a discussion for first impressions of the new batch of anime series that are coming out. I haven't seen anything other than Soul Eater (which, btw, it a pretty good anime for any shounen-lovers), but for now I plan on watching the first episodes of Birdy the Mighty and Antique Bakery. I'm very intrigued by Slayers Revolution, but I haven't seen Slayers, Slayers Next, etc. so I don't know if I'll get into that. So what has everyone else seen/plan to watch?
  17. So, Marik's Evil Council of Doom. Y/N? A lot of people seem to be N on this, but those two episodes are included in my favorites. Rex+Weevil+Bakura/Marik banter=what do you mean it's not awesome? But I admit absolutely nothing* beats Seto and Bandit Keith's conversation during episode 15. Makes me laugh every time. *Except maybe Mokuba going through Japanese puberty.
  18. Got a new Macbook (!!!) and I've been playing about with it. I just downloaded the Candy Bar application, so I expect to go crazy with that for the next week, but here's what I have so far: Wallpaper from http://storm-and-fire.animepaper.net/
  19.
Agreed! (I mean, how do people become alcoholics anyway?! How does one get addicted to that nasty-smelling garbage in a bottle?!)
Vodka gets the job done. But I think you're missing the reason people become alcoholic- it's usually not because they find beer delicious.
  20. I've searched around forever trying to find this game- I tried Google, various Mac/Apple forums, etc., so either I supremely suck at internet searching or this game was incredibly obscure. I was wondering if any of you OBers know of it. From what I remember, it was simply a computer game made for Macs only, and all you did was raise and watch sharks grow. It was like Sims for sharks, and you created your own shark, named it, watched it grow, etc. Ring any bells?

  22. I watched Camp Rock with my friend, and we thought it was absolutely hilarious. Terrible acting+completely preditable plot+"cute"!angsty!rockstar!tween=major lulz.
  23. I've realized now that I become a tired drunk after a few shots and absolutely crazy if I'm stupid and drink too much (i.e. the first time I drank, never happening again). So, sorry, the worst I've ever really done is cursed a lot while playing Wii bowling drunk. lol

    Wall-E

What a great movie! I was so happy that it remained a love story, and even though the parts of the movie dealing with the ethical problems were the most lackluster, the kill-your-heart-cuteness made me forget all of that. I was getting sort of fidgety by the middle, but then that
dance Wall-E and Eve had in space was wonderful
. The first part of the movie up until when Eve and Wall-E left Earth was the best thing I've seen from Pixar (it was literally perfect, I could not think of a better way to get the audience to absolutely love the main character), and the ending was great as well!
I was really happy with how Pixar managed to make an action as simple as holding hands so touching
. One of my now favorite movies!
