Desbreko Posted September 18, 2005 Share Posted September 18, 2005 [color=#4B0082]Okay, I added the six Kain avatars and the one of Vayne from FFXII; I thought the jpg artifacting was a bit too noticeable in the others. When saving avatars as jpgs, always be sure to use a low amount of compression. When I save avatars as jpgs in PSP7, I tend to set the level of compression to 5 out of a range of 1-99. I also added 26 Tales of Symphonia avatars that I recently made, and I organized the Final Fantasy avatars so that they're grouped by the game they're from.[/color] Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If you see one that you like and it either didn?t get approved or you don?t know if it has or not, for example the most recent post of DNAngel avatars, it was posted today and I do not know how long it takes for someone to decide if they are going to be used or not. Well basically I was wondering if you had to wait or can you go ahead and use one that you like? I am assuming that by posting the person is who made them expects others to be able to use them. Considering that the whole point of submitting them in here is so that others can use them and all. So yeah, I'd say go ahead and use one as a custom avatar if it didn't get added to the archive or is still pending. Also, I add avatars kind of sporadically -- basically, "when I feel like it" -- since it's not exactly a high priority thing. I try not to let too many pile up before doing an update, but sometimes it'll be a while before some submissions get added, so don't think something was rejected just because it hasn't been added yet. Most of the time I'll make a post in here whenever I add new submissions (such as my post before this), to keep people up to date on which have been given the yea and which the nay, and anything after that post will be left until the next update/post.[/color] Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

After I posted it the other day I realized that I could simply ask the person who made them directly. Their answer was similar to yours as they replied that the whole point of submitting them was for others to use them. I still appreciate you taking the time to reply, as I was a bit uncertain regarding the policy on using them. Though upon reflection I realize that I probably didn?t need to ask. Not sure when exactly, but most likely some time soon. But anyway, a lot of those Fruits Basket avatars are good, except for one problem: They're in png format and they need to be in either [b]gif[/b] or [b]jpg[/b] format in order for me to add them. For most of those -- the ones without a lot of shading/color gradient, such as the second Yuki avatar -- gif would probably be the better choice, since the 256 color limit would be negligible while still keeping the image nice and crisp. Jpg introduces compression artifacts which can blur the images, so that's best used on images with more gradients and a high number of individual colors where it's not as noticeable. So yeah, just a little tip for people there. Don't pick and format and use it on everything, but rather, switch back and forth (as well as tinkering with compression settings) depending on the image in question for best results. :)[/color] Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I've been wanting to do this, after seeing the few mediocre Gundam Wing avatars there are. Since I'm submitting a few MSG avatars, why not just make a "Gundam" category instead of "Gundam Wing"? But I'll use the existing categories for now... Desbreko Posted February 8, 2006 Share Posted February 8, 2006 [color=#4B0082]So it goes on and on, melodies -- er, another update. *pauses the FFIX OST* Lots of great avatars in this batch, but there were also a lot that didn't make it in. The vast majority of those were due to them being the wrong size. (Though a few also had too much visible jpg artifacting.) Those Bleach avatars, for example; I would've loved to add those, but submissions have to be [i]exactly[/i] 150x80 pixels in order to be accepted. And White, if you're using a template image to make your avatars, you'll want to double check its dimensions. All of the ones you submitted are 149x79. Myself, I kind of went a little crazy making Slayers avatars. I added 45 of them, as well as digging up some Ah!
