Nerds, Goths, Punks, The Popular Kids, etc... What do you fall in?

Lol. I think I'd fall into my own group. Before you go stereotyping people you've gotta remember that everybody is different and anybody can fall into anygroup. The most gothiest goth could fall into the preppiest group that listens to britney spears if you think about it. It depends upon how you classify each group. Do you identify them for their clothes or for their personality or something else. Or any combination. So by doing this you really eliminate the stereotype factor. Too many people these days look at your clothes and think they know you.
Okay. So if I could give my group a name I'd say it's a misc of the rebel groups of the school. I fall under a more artistic gothic type of rebel where as my best friend Colin falls into the punk style rebel and my other friend Skitto would fall into the hippy group.
I think my group represents the anti stereotype becuase we're a blend and we're all very good friends.
And that's the way the world should be.

I really don't know what group i fall into :animedepr . I have friends but i am not popular. Any ways who would want to be popular. with all thoose brain less followers. If u r popular doesn't that mean that everyone only wants to be your friend beacuse of that. i mean how r u ever going to find a true soul mate or best friend when everyone is only your friend because u r popular. u know. i guess i fall under normal if that is a group. A normal girl that likes to draw, watch anime and takes band because her parents make her (which is a total waste of time if u ask me), no offense if u r in band but band is sort of not my thing. i like it now only because i grew into it but it is still a waste of time
But thats just me :catgirl: bye :animesmil

 ~*~Ally~*~:rotflmao:
Could someone remind me why being popular is now a social sin? Heh. Just because you're popular doesn't mean that you have a flock of mindless followers, or that you're a prep and mean to everyone who's different. It means that you have friends. Everything else is just a stereotype. Ironic, eh?

Sure, everyone technically can fall into their 'own group,' but at some level or another, we're not all completely unique and share characteristics with other people. These characteristics are what group us into these 'catagories' or whatever you'd like to call them. They aren't (rarely, actually) always accurate, but they're there all the same. Whether you know it or not, we're all part of one catagory or another. We're not all "normal" or "just me" or something else like that. Please don't misinterpret this post as me trying to justify labeling. Think of this more of a rant towards those who just consider themselves independent of all catagorizing done in the social arena.

Very good Trib, as you said, if you're popular then you just have friends, in these days all the 'Goths' have a group of friends, all the 'Punks' have a group of friends, all 'Preps' have a group of friends, and whatever other stereotype has a group of friends.

The whole 'popular kid' thing came from random TV shows and the stereotype that goths never see sunlight so can't socialise, and punks are just aggressive and hate you, and for Nerds, well who would be friends with someone who sits in front of a computer all day. ~_^.

I hate stereotypes, and I hate labels, I tend to use them though which is ironic, but life is built up on labels, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Watch Mean Girls for example. ^_^;;

Skaters:Mostly guys, except for a few girls. What else can I say? They always wear skate shoes and skate brand shirts etc.The girls are mostly going out with them and wear their shoes.
As a skater, i will point out a HUGE flaw in this.
Skaters skate. The "type" you described are posers(unless they do skate). Skaters don't always wear that, especially the clothes. I would agree on the shoes, though. With a few exceptions(me about 2 years ago). Oh, and must girls wouldn't go out with skaters...

ON topic, I'm a skater. a punk, skater, and a rockhead huge combo.

At my school, there are a few skaters, a bunch of skater-posers(a BUNCH), jocks, preppy chicks, and goths. A few goths. Oh, and punks, and wiggers/gangstas

I'm a punk in the way I dress...and the way I act. I skate, for about 3 years now, and I listen to rock.
Rap can go kill itself, in my oppinion.

EDIT: oh, and the emos. The goth wannabes with a bad hairdo.

What Jadeninja said is exactly what I mean! My mannerisms aren?t what I'd call "stereotypical Goth" but purely because of the way I look and dress people judge me as so. I mean, it doesn't bother me on the whole it's just when people take it to the next level and begin making assumptions.

For example: In Liverpool most of the people are "anti-Goth". They automatically assume that they are devil worshippers, drug addicts etc. I think it's fear of them, but that's just me.

I was with my friend once walking through her neighbourhood in baggy khakis with chains and a Sum41 hoody. She was dressed "normally" I guess you could say. Then these kids started following us, even throwing stuff at me and shouting "Goth! We don't want you here!" I'm not joking, it was the weirdest experience. I mean, I told them to....go away *innocence* and we went to her house.

It's those kind of people who I can't stand and that's part of the reason why I think stereotypes shouldn't be encouraged. I'm not sure what would have happened if one of them had a knife, there have been cases of it in the past and now the media is only making it worse.

By the way, Jadeninja, you have very pretty hair. ^_^

Well this is a funny little thread, but i think you forgot something that also rules schools nowadays, and that would have to be gangs. Gangs rule schools too and we have a lot of them here. Mostly Blacks and Hispanics. They just hate each other. or they just like to fight alot. We have skaters and Nerds, but Nerds are called computer freaks at out school or gamers. We have a few popular kids, but are school dosent give a dang about them. Jocks are only reconginized if they win a game once in a while and how many time your in the paper. then there the kids who are just themselves and nothing else. I fall under that line of people. i dont care about what i wear or what i looked like i like who i am and that dosent change anything. That's why i have many friends under all those other catorgorys. Nerds, popular anything, i have friends in each. and we have been friends for a long time. But to be honset it dosent really matter once school out's we will see who the real people are and who are the fakes. :catgirl:

I hang out with everyone. No enemies what-so-ever. Except for maybe the occasional "I'm a gangster wanna fight" kid. They push me to the edge.

I'm a really loud, hyper kid, but i am also a lot smarter than my friends. With me it's all about having fun. If you don't learn to enjoy life then get out of my way. I guess you could call me an all out punk. I also love the ladies. Haha, If you don't get along with me then you must be crazy.

If people would describe the people i hang out with they would just probably say that i hang out with the popular/punk crowd. The only people that i hate are the people who refuse to participate in P.E because of their physical appearance and just people who are overall self conscience about how they look. They just bring themselves down with comments like," I'm not pretty/hot/good looking etc." It bugs the crap out of me. Why would bring yourself down like that?

But all the hyperness aside, i'm a very calm and laid-back person outside of the campus. It's like my whole personality changes around my good friends. But there's just one thing in life that i important to me. Having fun.

Oh yeah, and the grade i'm currently in is 7th!
7th graders are awesome.

As I don't go to school anymore, I don't know what dominates my old highschool. But I am a skinhead. Now before you go off on me, let me explain.

I am not the nazi skinhead. Urbandictionary.com explains it best. I'll bold the parts that pertain to me.

1. skinhead
A movement started in Britain in the 60s when the mod scene met the hippy scene. The mod scene split, and the "hard mods", the ones who hated hippies, got harder. With a little influence from Jamacian rudeboys, the skinhead was born out of the hard mod. Most of the music was held over from the mod days, but there were ska and reggae imported from the rude boys.

In the 70s, many punk-rockers became Skinhead, Skrewdriver among them, and brought Oi! and RAC into the scene.

Skinheads represent the working class, and fight with honor.

There are 4 main types of Skinheads:

Traditional Skinheads (Rejects all politics and labels)

Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice (SHARP) Anti-racist Skinheads

White Power/National Socialist(Neo-Nazi) Racist Skinheads

Red Anarchistic Skinheads (RASH)
Communist Skinheads

There's also GASH (Gay Aryan Skinheads), but they're just a joke.

The general "uniform" of the Skinheads are flight jackets, Fred Perry's/polo shirts/dress shirts, Levi 501s/tight jeans, steelcap combat boots (Doc Martens, Gripfasts, and others), and either shaved head or close-cut hair. Sideburns are common.

Generally, skinheads reject hard drugs, although drinking and smoking are common.

Skinheads love to go out drinking with the boys, get rowdy, and kick a few skulls in.

Skinheads work for a honest, working-class living with their own sweat and blood.

Oi, Oi, Oi!

I think I was the only skinhead at my school who wasn't a ******' nazi.

personally, i don't fit into any one group. i do have a wide variety of friends: goths, punks, jocks, preps, hip hop kids, and gamers; i pretty much get along with anyone and am friends w/ a lot of people. i go 2 a small private school so i don't always kno about some stereotyping associated w/ specific things in public schools. i bought a tee from this one store like over 6 yrs ago be4 the store was well known, and once when i was wearing it my friend who goes to a public school was like "i didn't kno u were a prep" and i had no idea it was considered 2 be a preppy store ((but i won't go to like Aberchrombie and buy a shirt 4 like $30- no offense but personally i think that's a waste)). i didn't really care, i'll still wear the shirt.

one thing i hate though is when people look @ me and try to catagorize me. there is no way you can look at me and deturmine who i am ((or ne1 4 that matter)) because there are so many different aspects of my character. yea i play sports, play video games, watch anime, like going out, get good grades, dancing, reading, drawing, and having a good time but it doesn't mean i fit into any one category for others to define who i am. if i feel like getting up and wearing a black shirt, jeans w/ buckles all over them and darker makeup i will. if i feel like wearing a skirt w/ flip flops and a tee i will. i wear what i feel like and in the mood for, that's all there is to it. all i can be is real.

I hate classifications, and I'm not about to single myself into any one group. Somedays I happen to dress "punk" and somedays more "preppy" like. I don't happen to assign these designations to clothes myself, it's what I hear from friends and strangers alike. Some of my friends are goth, some of them happen to be athletes, some are what you would even call nerds or geeks. Hanging out with them, or even being in the vicinity of them, does not automatically associate me with them, now does it?

I hear it all the time, "Why do you hang out with those people? They aren't our kind."

What the hell? Last I heard, we were ALL homosapiens, lol. What kind are you refering to exactly? Are you trying to say that just by the way someone dresses or cuts their hair, or plays some instrument, or drives a certain car, that they are lesser OR greater than you? Honestly now, use common sense. I fail to see how it's wrong for a goth to drive a BMW and so on. Bring racists into it as well, and the list of this ignorant stereotyping goes on and on...

Anyways, if you want to know who *I* fall in with? The community. Put it that way. :D

BAH! My old hyeskool. There were of course the "popular" kids who were suck-ups so the teahers loved them, and they would only communicate with "their group" and would diss/make fun of anyone outside that "group" if they tried to speak to them, or any other time for that matter. And the posers, who were one theme one week, then the were another the next, etc. There weren't really any gangs there, cuz it was a small town and most people were wimps anyway. I was picked on, along with many others, but I didn't really care. I'm a hyper, nutty weird person that likes to wear bazzar, different, or unique stuff that nobody else would dare to, I never match...I'm like againt the concept, I'll wear whatever I feel. that's how I've always been, I don't care what anyone thinks. and I actually had some friends who liked me for who I was, and there was this b**** Jenna who thought she was the best thing since twinkies, and was so mean to everyone that she didn't have any friends, and I guess felt like she had to be "better" or something than a lowly artist like myself, so she had to pick on me. But I would just annoy the hell out of her til she left me alone. I was never really in a "group", I had a mix of friends. We just hung around, and had fun. I still don't understand why you'd wanna be popular, because, (I've never been so I wouldn't know) you have to be "up to the standards" and never have any fun because you have to "keep up with trends" and crap. What's the point, anyway? I mean, you waste your life trying to be popular in skool, then you get out on your own and have to actually communicate with all kinds of people, and it's not all about you. And you have nothing to look back on except say, "i was popular." Some accomplishment, eh? Nobody's really gonna care. Life's too short. Have fun and be yourself. Don't change yourself/what you like based on what "popular" people like. Set yourself apart and try to enjoy life the way you are.
.......Ok...........I gotta go drink coffee now...

i think you really said it best. there isn't really a point in being this or that...just be who you are. you don't have to be under a label. that creates boundaries, and being you creates freedom. you're the only person that's posted that hasn't claimed to be something. I mean it's clear that you must like anime, i mean that's what this is site is about, but to claim to be what one person said...an "anime fanatic", that's just dumb. you seem to have a pretty good view on things, or at least a mature one. contact me sometime if you want.

Human categorization is one of the most foolish things that you can either do or think about. If you use any sortof commone sense you would see why, when you categorize people this leads to fights, kids being picked on, and just all out war. If you have ever read or saw anything on George Washington then you might understand why. When I did go to school I was quite blind but a very Intelligent kid, No not as in book smart I hate to say it kids but anyone can read a book and study hard and I have nothing against that but it dose not measure intelligence so. I was a Prep but I did not pick on kids I liked everyone I did not hate anyone but I did get in fights if you somone would mess with a close friend(Im not small kid and I like the martial arts). But in truth I really do not like goths I think its quite foolish and I think some of them are attention seeking fools but I like some goths, my reasoning for this is because when I went to school 5 goths brought knives and one a BB gun so I was quite pissed and one of my friends got stabbed(In the face did not hurt him or kill him nothing that would have killed him) I thought wow how foolish can you get and this kid was not being picked on and he was quite liked by everyone and then he just gose off and dose somthing stupid but as I said I do not categorize people be yourself and do what you want. When I went to school I had friends in every "Group" but I never categorized anyone and I saw everyone as being a Human and equal.

This topic is a very bold one to say the least. Well, I might as well start talking about what "category" I fall into, if there is such a thing. For starters, my school is different. I and my opinions are respected by everyone at my school. My school dosent judge people by how they look on the outside or by how they dress, we dont even judge people. The way we tell if someone is a good person is by looking at there personality. Of course there are people at my school who resemble Goths, Punks, Nerds, Preps, an jocks, we all respect eachother, or at least they all respect me. They all know that I work out very often and take kung fu, but that dosent make me a jock. I listen to Led zeppelin, black sabbath, and the rolling stones, that dosent make me "punk", or "goth". I play online games, talk on message boards and chatrooms, and like anime, but that dosent mean I am a nerd or geek, even if you look at my room and its massive anime figure collection and posters. none of that matters. What matters is who I am on the inside. And on the inside I am a deticated to working out kind of guy who has a sense of humor. If I had to stereo type myself, I would say I fall between Class clown ( since I throw stuff at the teacher behind her back make everyone laugh and act like certain teachers when they are out of the room) a jock, since I work out alot and am dedicated to My sport, and a "rocker" because I like rock music. I really do hate stereo types, but wanted to clue some of you in that it isnt what you were or talk like or listen to, its who you are.

People seemed freaked by me. I'm a bookworm, and I don't talk much. And when people do talk to me, I just give them a drop dead look and a cold shoulder.
But I'm not exactly loved either. I'd rather read than talk, and even my friends treat me weird.
Lables are stupid and pointless, and I try to ignore them. I hate jocks who think they own the school and cheerleaders who think there better than everyone else.
If I had to pick a 'box' for myself, I would be the writer/drawer type.

Um, let me see... My school has stereotypes, but I don't think they are all that bad. There are the popular kids, goths, punks, posers, and in-between.

As for which category I'd fit in, I'm an in-between. I'm kinda punk (my parents don't allow me to dress like it) :animesigh I'm on the varsity volleyball and softball teams, I'm an honor student, participate in band, academic team, and mock trial, and I'm friends with everyone (or at least I try to be). I also happen to be an anime/manga freak. :freak: lol

I hate stereotypes (Despite what I just said above) :animeangr. There's a lot more to people than what you label them as. Sometimes you just have to get to know someone before you can make assumptions of them based on a stereotype.

My school is run by jocks, popular kids, skaters, outcasts, nerds and rockers. Jocks are always running things when it comes to sports. when were in P.E. they are always telling you what to do, plus since my school is just plain weird most of the jocks are smart. Popular kids are loved by everyone with some exceptions, they are all smart, pretty, just plain out there. Most of the skaters are popular, I connect mostly with the skaters and the rockers, because I skate and I just plain rock out loud. I am a perfect example of a skater that is not popular, considereing that I ahev popular friends. The outcast well I have some outcast friends they are like me and you just not very popular. The nerds well all they do is stay out of trouble and do exceptionally in acedemics, Thats the total opposite of me. Now I get good grades only one or two B's from straight A's but I always almost get expelled every year. There isnt a year where U never got into a whole lot of trouble. I made all the middle school teachers quit in my graduation year in middle school and even made my english teacher cry. Hmmm? Then there are the rockers, I am a rocker. Well we just like to let everyone know we rock and well you jsut cant define a rocker It depends on that persons personality. well thats basically my school.
