Ive noticed something recently. Whenever I finished watching any good anime I have this horrible empty feeling right in my stomache. It's odd. Ive watched many anime but this strange feeling comes back every time. Am I the only one who feels this odd feeling?

Yeah, same here. I think the reason why I get that feeling is because it's kind of hard to see a show end when you watched it from the very beginning. When some anime shows end, it feels like there more to the story than what the last ep shows. That's just my opinion.

Seconded, especially if it ends with a few of your favorite characters dying. Well-rendered endings are a whole lot worse than crappy endings 'cause they tend to stick to your brain much, much longer (take GITS:SAC 2nd Gig's, for example).

But still, I'd rather see a series' ending and catch that "empty feeling" than forever wonder how they concluded the story.
Now its coming to the point where it takes weeks to get out of the horrible depression. This is getting unmanagable. I might have to take a couple years off of anime as a whole just so I can recover.
o.O I'm not sure if you're joking or if you're serious.

If you're joking.., Great one, you got me there. ;)
If you're not... I don't mean to be rude, but you should get a life.

I assure you that I only have the kindest intentions when saying this...

Anime is first and foremost a form of entertainment. Most have been created so you can enjoy your time while watching them. If your life is centered around the medium so much that you it can make you depressed for long stretches at a time, you're obsessing way too much over it. That "empty feeling" that comes from completing something and knowing nothing comes after is understandable, but an unmanagable depression?

You shouldn't rely on Anime alone to pass your time or make you happy. This way, if you get depressed from Anime, you can get away from it and to your other interests and past times.

But yeah, once again, if you're joking. ^^ heh, you got me.

Yeah i get this feeling aswell when i finish an anime its like the feeling you get when your nervous. I get this feeling when i realise that believe it or not Anime is in fact not real at all. That really gets me down especially when you've seen an entire series and you feel personally attached to the characters.

I get this feeling after series. But i remember the first time i got it was when i finished Laputa:Castle in The Sky

I am with R2vq in saying that anime is only a form of entertainment and that its not good to get overly depressed at it. Although it have to say i did fell like Avenged666 afterwatching Starwars 3: Revenge Of The Sith but i got over it in like 3 days. :D

I felt like this after I finnished watching Neon Genesis Evanglion, the oddness of the series and the fact that things don't really go "according to plan"? I don't know I just felt depressed after watching it, and I finnished watching it the last saturday of spring break, so i had to goto school on monday feeling all wierd :S It sounds odd that someone would be getting all depressed over a "cartoon" but I dunno. Watch Neon Genesis, and the movies, and then you will know the feeling. But you're not alone xD

I can sympathize, although this doesn't happen to me terribly often. It doesn't send me into a deep depression or what have you, but it does make me disinclined to watch other anime. Recently, I got hit pretty hard, between finishing Fullmetal Alchemist and finishing Mushishi's TV run. I had plans to start in on some other shows afterward, but I just couldn't get in the mood for them.

The best cure? For me, it's a heavy dose of doujinshi and fanfiction, plus a little bit of re-watching (I saw The Conqueror of Shambala again last night). Right now I'm still wallowing in FMA-related fanworks. I got lucky this time, however; few other series have as many good doujin floating around as FMA.

I get that feeling a lot when I finish an anime series. Not because it's over (one of the things I like best about anime is that most series are planned from the beginning and have a definite, conclusive ending), but because it seems most of the series I own have endings that are absolutely gut wrenching. The first time I watched X, for example, I couldn't think of anything else but that for days afterwards, and I had to go online and learn everything I could about the series. When I finished Wolf's Rain, and a lot of other series, it was the same.

I hate feeling sad over anime. Fan-fics are probably the best way to deal with anime-induced depression. The loverly writers out there find ways to by-pass the laws of nature and give you a happy ending that wouldn't happen otherwise.

I want most series to end happily, even if you wouldn't get the fairy-tale ending in real life. Cowboy Bebop is one of my few exceptions. :catgirl:

The Fullmetal Alchemist anime ending was beautifully done, but the story didn't turn out how I wanted it to. Fortunately, I still enjoy it because I can completely ignore the ending. The manga is still going in Japan, and the anime changed much of the plot around. Hiromu Arakawa had almost nothing to do with the anime, so there is still hope for the short blond bishi.

*gasp* There are GOOD doujinshi!?!

Sorry if I sounded sarcastic. It just seems that whenever I go to an anime convention all of the doujinshis that are being sold are pornography. I'd probably trust a Yoshitiro aBe doujinshi since he's proven himself to have some tallent but I don't really know how to find anything else worth reading. Recommendations?

This happened to me after watching the last episode of .hack//SIGN. I was seriously in love with this anime, so much that I cried when I couldn't watch it because it wasn't on, or that one time when my mother told me I wasn't allowed (I just taped it and watched it the next day, xP). When the last episode ended? I was sobbing. Sobbing! I was lucky to have seen it from the very beginning, but I think I missed one or two episodes because I went out of town or something. Everything about this anime was perfect: the great animation, the amazing story, the beautiful music, and the characters that I desperately wished were real (this all happened from sixth grade to seventh). When it ended, I cried myself to sleep, and of course, the empty feeling vacuumed itself to life in my stomach. I don't know if I was just emotional because of the ending it had, or because it was over and there wouldn't be any new episodes (save Gift and the two bonus episodes...one was Intermezzo, but I don't remember the other). This is the only time this has happened to me, though, because I think this is the only anime I've seen from start to finish and loved as much as I did.

This stuff happened to me also. I've watched many animes, ranged from serious action to all-out-laugh comedy animes. Everytime I finish one of them I felt some sort of, as the topic said, emptiness. The worst might have been when I finished watching GTO.

Yup, Great Teacher Onizuka. The show kick a**! Way too cool for me to explain why I like it, but when the story's end, I was like -_- and :(. I wasn't able to enjoy any other anime after that, so I played my PS2 over and over until I miss them.

I haven't felt that feeling anymore, and I wish I'd never again. Eventhough I miss it, it's just sucks if you had to feel empty after you finished an anime.

yeah I get that empty feeling inside too. I hate it when a good anime ends. I jsut feel like there was some much more that could have been shown or done to prolong the ending, but I suppose when that happens then you start to get those episodes that are fillers and no one ever likes those :( When ever I see a good ending it puts me in a melancholy state but I can always pop in a action anime and have that lift up my spirits :animesmil * pops in Nadesico* yeah!......wait no, JOE!
Gotcha yea im joking about that deep depression stuff. .
Hmm I get the feeling you werent joking :p .

But whatever I really dont get depressed over an anime being over. It was a gret ride while it lasted but all good things must come to an end. The best thing to do is to find another quality anime to watch and enjoy. After finishing Champloo I really felt more satsified with the series than depressed.

Actually, .hack//SIGN was very nice at the end.
Tsukasa finally wakes up from her coma and meets Subaru in real life.
That's probably the best ending that could be hoped for.
