Hi I'm a big fan of Anime and sometimes people upset me when they think that anime is bunch of cheaply made cartoons that only nerds and losers are into them! The truth is they know nothing about the deep side of anime. It is not all like pokemon, sailormoon and yu gi oh at all! I'm not forcing others to be interested in anime but I just wish that they could understand the art form and complex side of anime. Some people don't know how amazing and beautiful anime is. It certainly taught me life lessons watching through anime and mangas.

That's my opinion.

What do you think? :animecry:

I got to say somethin to this.
Lets put it this way, is enough manga and anima for everyone to find something they like let it be cooking, sports, horror, action, whatever. :animesigh
The problem I have with manga is when I read around other people.
So many kids think that it is just porn in comic book format. In truth there is manga like that. But the teachers... Whenever I bring out a book like yuyu hakusho it is always flipped through and checked by them to make sure there is nothing in it. Honestly there are people out there that are giving manga and anima lovers a bad name,

Yeah, I totally agree. When ever I read manga around my class mates they'll react like "eeeeeerw! A girl has flashed her undies!" and this and that... Well ya know what? Alot of American movies have lot's of things like violence and sex and all that so it shouldn't matter.Besides not all manga is about porns.

Thanks for replying Ikeor :animesmil

I understand how you feel everytime i pull out any of my manga books they just think it's stupid and they always compare anime to bugs bunny and other stupid cartoons  . I always try to tell them the difference between the two but they just dont understand.

Anime and manga are for dorks. But, so what? I play video games, which are just as strongly associated with dorkiness. My point is that almost everyone has a dorky interest or hobby. Look at the myspace fad and how mainstream that is. Isn't that the epitome of dorkiness? Don't be ashamed of your nerdy interest or make excuses about how "deep" anime is. Just be comfortable enough with yourself and what you like to accept, and even laugh at what other people think about it. Be cool enough to make fun of yourself and people won't bother you. However, if you become heated and try to explain the complexity of anime to naysayers, prepare to get teased. And rightfully so.

i think that anyonw who calls anime and manga otakus losers are just self-absorbed,crazy, good-for-nothing-worthless,insolent, preppy scondrells(and/or refs) that think only their crap is worth anything and they need to shove all their rude unwanted remarks far, far up their anal canal!

Well, criticising or discussing anime and manga when you haven't really sat your butt down, dedicated yourself, and absorbed hundreds of hours of the stuff in your off time is basically the same thing as talking about how the German language "sounds" when you can't actually speak a single sentence of it. The folks who do this probably mean well, but usually they just miss the point entirely.

(note: this also means that you're not likely to "argue" your way into getting someone to like anime; to use a bad simile, it's like trying to explain how to fret a G major chord to someone who's never held a guitar before)

I have something to add as in like when I read manga I have to be careful to make sure that the teachers don't see and that most of my friends don't really know what manga is really about.I mean manga and anime aren't just about porn but they really do sometimes make sense as in some manga.

See, this is what I'm talking about. If an anime aficionado goes off like this in real life they're only opening themselves up to people who just want to get a rise out of them. And honestly, if I were making fun of you and you called me a scoundrel I would die laughing and you'd really never hear the end of it. A lot of teasing starts off as passing and good-natured. It's only when people become animated and over-react that an open invitation to keep at it is dealt.

That's sad that so many people make fun of something that most of them do not know about. While there are some mangas and animes that are meaningless or disgusting, many of them are very interesting and thought-provoking. Some even hold strong ethical and moral messages that teach you more than any run-of-the-mill movie or book would.

There is some really great stuff out there! While I would not belittle anyone's opinion, I think that anime and manga are awesome, and I totally agree with what you said. To those people who say such things and don't even try to verify their opinions by actually reading some manga or watching some anime, I have nothing to say but why not try it out? You'd be surprised by what you'll find.

Well, that's dumb! Of course it's not! It's way awesomer than any American cartoon! Almost all American cartoons have srappy animation and are all competely idiotic! They all could be classified as "comedy", but anime has so amny different sides to it! They have the heavy stuff like Fullmetal Alchemist, they have the confusing, complex stuff like Ghost In The Shell, they have the cute, adorable stuff like Hamtaro, and they have the... uh... odd stuff like BoBoBo-BoBo-BoBo! Anyone who flat out says, "Oh, anime is for losers" is coming to a conclusion too quickly if the only anime they've seen is Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! (which 4kids is responsible for. t3h 3vil...) Hmph! :animeangr
Jeez. Besides, if people need to call anime and manga fans losers then they must have some self-esteem issues 'cause people only do that when they're insecure. If they're that insecure, take it out on somone else. They're the losers for being jerks. ('Cause 'loser' is a relative term.)

I'm going to go ahead and say sorry in case this response hurts your feelings! But really why do you care what they think of you or your hobbies? Get over it, it's life people will always judge you by how you act, look, and who you hang out with. If you don't like the way the talk about you because of the simple fact that you have a " loser" hobbie, stay the HE** away from them.

I've checked your writing pages and they looked wicked! :excited: You're a great writer and you could do something about those talents in the future.Don't waste them! There is always a future for someone who is prepared.

About what you've posted,it's true that some manga are nonsense with full of disgusting things but there is heaps of countless genres from all different age level such as comedy, horror, science fiction, fantasy, action, ghosts, drama, romance even porn etc (You name it.) that you could choose from. But sometimes when I finished reading a manga volume, I'll look outside the window and realises what a dull reality life I'm living. Sure most main characters in manga are all quite related to us in some parts but there is always some fascinating events that has changed their lives. Do you sometimes admire them? I was attracted to some male characters in manga but not in a bishounen (pretty boy) way you know? Something about those characters are so :animeblus Ok, off topics here :animeswea

And people like Saruyi-Sama who define people that dislike Japanese Animation are just as bad who stereotype anime as s*it. The whole world isn't black and white people; There are different reasons that people dislike anime and different people who dislike anime besides Preps/ Jocks and people who are racist.

Charles has it right. It's honestly not worth expending much energy over at all. Most of the time you're not going to change their minds, and you just end up looking like a bigger dork than they thought you were. I'm only a casual fan of anime (though not so casual that people don't laugh at me about it :p), but I'm also really into Western animation, science-fiction, video games, reading for (OMG) fun, and tons of other things that would probably get me shoved into a locker every episode if I were a character in a high school-themed TV show. I really do like this stuff a lot, but if somebody insults me for it, then so what? I laugh if the insult is funny, make a better one if it's not, and move on.

Having a sense of humor about things solves a great deal of life's problems. :)

When I was little I used love watching Disney's Beauty and the Beast, little mermaid, lion king, pochahontas etc.The classics were great but in nowadays nearly 100% of Disney are all computer animated and you start to get sick of it. American cartoon and Japanese may be different but it's unique to its own. Each has their own different tastes to it. But you don't get addicted as much as Anime though.

:animesmil You're the sweetest! Thanks for the kind words about my writing. I hope to be published one day.

About the characters...you're not really off topic, I guess, because it does relate. I have read a lot of books where I just wasn't able to relate to the characters at all, but in so many animes I watch, I find that I can care for the characters and what happens to them. Maybe it's just the drama that's always infised into those shows that grabs me from the beginning, or maybe I'm just silly in the way that I enjoy things that others do not, but anime, to me, is truly amazing. I've actually cried watching anime. Of course, that may just be because I'm a big softy. :animeshy:

Where I live, in my small town, I am a catalyst for all who enjoy anime. When I moved here, I got my group of friends and basically introduced them all to anime and mangas such as Hellsing, Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, Trigun, and most of all, Naruto. Nearly every male in my school has had some nerdy/dorky/geeky interest. The most popular being Family Guy and Video Games, so nobody really ridicules anybody for liking something such as anime.

If I come into school with a new volume of Naruto, it's usually people asking me to borrow it rather than people making fun of me. But then again, I don't do JUST anime and manga. I've proven my, what can I say... non-loser-ness by also being a decent athlete, an avid music fan, and having a good streak with ladies. I've gotten stoners, athletes, gang-bangers, and generally anybody willing to hang with me into some form of anime or manga. Some of them were already into it, and just didn't have anybody to talk to it with. Some of them have never even heard of it. Some of them thought it was stupid. All of them love it now.

Example: My best friend is a track distance runner. The guy works out everyday and openly challenges anybody who has the nerve to a fight. When I first met him, he really, really hated me. Now... well, just today he called me on the phone telling me how he just beat Resident Evil 4 on proffesional mode.

Example: Stoner friend. Literally smokes a joint every day. What do me and him talk about when we have Geometry together? We debate on who is cooler in Naruto. Gaara or Rock Lee. We both hate Sasuke.

Example: My friend Matt. His brother is an active member in the Crips. Matt is a rapper with his own group and CD circulating around town. Matt gets into several fights... like, monthly. If we aren't talking about Music, were having a conversation about Hellsing.

I think it helps to have a sort of attitude like, 'Hey, if you don't like my interests, then why don't you **** off?'. I don't let people intimidate or bother me over what I'm into, and I'll stand up to anyone who ridicules me, however, no body ever has over my interest in manga/anime/videogames. I guess you should just have a mind set where you really don't care what other people say, and let them know that you don't. And if any person you meet has an open mind, then introduce them to it. Atleast, that's what I think.

"Hey Loser... why you reading that stupid stuff?"

"Cuz I feel like it."

"Your such a nerd dude."

"Yeah... your probably right..."

"...."

I wouldn't really say all anime and manga lovers are losers. Some prove to be true because that is naturally how their personality is. But anime and manga "lovers" just found another hobby that is more of international standards. A lot of people have given anime/manga a sterotypical thought of porno and such that no one would rather look at the fact that there are many genres of anime/manga as there is books/movies!

But it doesn't matter. As long as a person likes what they do, then it shouldn't matter what other people think. It goes to the whole like yourself thought.

Although, in my high school, there is a groupie that are all anime obsessed people. Personally, as much as I like reading/watching anime/manga, I'd never talk to them because they are just over the top obsessed with it where they eat, sleep, drink and breathe anime/manga.

Yes, anime/manga can get addicting sometimes, but when people come off as said people above, then it may be thought as them to be losers.

But, can't judge a book by it's cover. ;)

Agreed.

Great American Non-Comedic Cartoons:

Heavy Metal
Batman The Animated Series
Batman Beyond
X-Men The Animated Series

Spider-Man: The Animated Series
Transformers (original)
G.I. Joe (original)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (original)
Teen Titans (more or less)

----------------------------------------

First hand, people aren't getting made fun of for manga/anime because it is 'non-American', but because it is either considered childish, perverted, or just nerdy. That was a bit of an un-provoked reaction on your part. Please don't ridicule American animation again until you see these shows. Plus... what wrong with comedy?

Ooh, yes! That's something that I think and totally agree with, but didn't say. I am interested in a lot of stuff that's considered geeky, especially for a person my age. Anyway, I agree. If you're able to, then introduce them, but if they're still resistant, or if they think it's stupid...just shrug it off. It's not like what they think will affect your own life or opinions. LOL, I love the way you wrote that, too.

^OWNED! I use that kind of a line so much, its like my trademark now.

I think that mostly when people see any kind of an anime in someone's hands they think, "Porn" Just because a person may have some "assets" to there person doesnt make it in any way pornography unless the show the person doing..I don't want to get into specifics right now, not going to sleep does that.

Yet the thing about these kinds of people who think of Anime/Manga like that, is that when they see some more action filled parts of a series. They will flock to it like a hot girl on a beach. Why? I have absolutly no clue. Perhaps they just get enjoyment on belittling people for something that they truly have a passion for on the inside.
