Bring your resume with you, dress super nice, be kind, keep your eyes on the interviewer, don't be late, have a good firm handshake and a sense of humor helps. He said before 5 so I would try to be there for 4:30. There's nothing wrong with being there early. And remain calm! It's not an interrogation. Just a simple interview to see what you're like.

The All-Purpose Name Request Thread: General Media Edition

I'm almost absolutely sure I have seen a Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner cartoon in which Wile E. Coyote speaks. Could anyone tell me the name of said cartoon if it exists?
I'm pretty sure there is no Roadrunner cartoon where Wile E. speaks. However, I do know that there has been a movie (maybe Space Jam?) or other show where he does say something. I remember he had a british accent (which actually fit the character quite well). I think it was in a Bugs cartoon where Wile E. Coyote meets Bugs Bunny. Bah, now you've got me in the mood to go watch my collection of Looney Tunes tapes. EDIT: Did a little scrounging. I'm pretty sure the episode you're thinking of is called "Operation Rabbit." -
Just as you are firmly on the other side of the fence, so am I. The phrase "And there are a lot of us" gives the impression that you are not alone in that opinion and I was making a strong statement that it was true on both sides.
But that's the thing, I didn't say it in a way to imply that there are a lot of people who share my opinion, I said it to imply that there are a lot of responsible smokers out there. Nothing more. So while I only said it to support that there are responsible smokers, you said it to support that there are lots of people who share your opinion. Which is why, to me, it seemed sarcastic. Regardless, I can now see how the line is irrelevant no matter how you use it and thus you weren't being sarcastic. I still don't think I was being snarky, though... :animestun

Look again... the phrasing was the same: And there are a lot of us. If you claim he was snarky, so were you. That's what I'm saying. You ended with there are a lot of us who see it this way and he used your own words to say the same was true on the other side of the argument. If you think that's snarky; it goes both ways.
Fair enough. I saw it more as him just mocking what I said but alright. And I didn't say he was being snarky. You said I was being snarky. I said he was being sarcastic, by repeating what I said. I'm over it, regardless. lol

I feel like there should be more to this thread. Maybe each time you post a story (or more, depending on how you feel) you should also write a couple lines about a previous persons story and what you think it was about. That way we can get some discussion flowing. What do you guys think? Beneath the robes, there was nothing. This is more inspired by the book I'm currently reading. The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells. I'll do another one since that was a bit of a rip-off, haha. Note to self: Buy more paper.

But I think a lot of us (including myself) got way too defensive about the topic and that's why I said that a friendly, civilized debate is clearly not going to happen.
If you don't want sarcastic responses, don't dish it out to begin with. You can become addicted to it, but that depends on the person, not the pot. I believe it should be legal for the many of us who are responsible enough to use it properly. Do you guys know anything about whether or not there will be online in Spore? Hah, I've just gotten used to highlighting all of my post and then selecting Tahoma and Dim Gray. It doesn't take very long so a permanent change wouldn't make that much of a difference, though it would be nice. It's cool that after the last update text now stays highlighted even after you select your font, size or colour.

I recently borrowed my friends PS3 and a couple games. So I've been playing a lot of Half-Life 2, which is amazing so far. I like the little puzzles mixed with great action and intriguing story. I also played a little Uncharted, which was pretty fun. It's very Indiana Jones-inspired, but with a twist. My favourite of all, though, is Ratchet and Clank: Future Tools of Destruction. It's my first Ratchet game and I love it. It's a little bit childish but the game play is really fun (so many weapon choices) and the story is quite funny. The graphics are pretty amazing, too.

Holy crap, guys. This is ridiculous. I wanted to make a thread about Marijuana because it's an activity I participate in from time to time that I enjoy and I wanted to share that with OBers. I made it about the legalization of marijuana so I could, you know, involve other members that don't smoke and maybe have a friendly, civilized debate with them. But apparently that won't happen. If it's that big of a deal then let's just make it a thread for Pot and leave it at that.
And there are a lot of us.

To be frank,
And the sarcastic remarks weren't necessary. Really.

Also, you missed the point about someone dumping a friend who wouldn't smoke with them. They got so caught up in wanting that fix that nothing else was important. Instead of thinking it was only their problem, consider that until they started smoking, they had never been like that. It's oh so easy to think it was their problem instead of owning up to it could have been the substance they were abusing.
Don't worry, I'm not trying to convince you that pot should be legal or anything.

its a known fact. Try not smoking for a month, you may be able to, you may not. But I assure you throughout that time, there will be periods where all you can think about is smoking a nice fat "l."
I think you mean a nice fat "J." As in joint.
Influence of any kind might improve your personal experience, but it ruins the group experience.
I actually rarely smoke when I'm with friends who don't smoke so for me that doesn't even apply. lol
I can't fathom how legalizing it would make the world a better place, I don't wanna have to walk through someone else's crap-smelling gas cloud on my way to a movie and I really don't understand why people would ever want to get into the stuff in the first place.
Legalizing it wouldn't make the world a better place. I don't know where you got that idea from. But it would make things easier for those of us who do smoke pot. I'm sorry for wanting to be able to smoke a completely harmless plant at the side of my own frakking house without having to worry about a damn cop busting me.
Exposure, like second had smoke from cigarettes I want nothing to do with it or the cancer causing effects it can have. Just as I don?t want to be high either. The other reasons fall under how I?ve seen it affect those around me who do smoke it: Loss of interest in doing things with friends. Loss of interest in studying for school. Loss of interest in going to work on time. Loss of interest in doing things with their kids. Getting in trouble with the law for selling. Getting in trouble with the law for having it in their possession. Getting in trouble and fired from work for testing positive at a random drug screen. Dumping friends because they won?t ?smoke? with them. Dropping out of school because they quit studying and were failing.
First of all, you can't get high from second hand smoke. It does not work like that. You'd have to be in a hot box (a small enclosed room where the smoke has absolutely nowhere to go) and just sit there as people blow smoke in your face. And judging from your post, I don't think you'd be willing to do that. I can understand the loss of interest in _____ parts, that does happen (although you have to be willing to let it happen which most people are not) but getting in trouble with the law? That's not a reason for why pot should be illegal. That's like saying "I think marijuana should be illegal because it's already illegal." And they dumped friends who wouldn't smoke with them? Seems like they were just a poor person to begin with. Sorry.
To start I will say this: Marijuana, regardless if you believe it or not, is a gateway drug. ... ... ... So, yes it does lead to other drugs.
No. It's not a gateway drug. The only reason it's considered a gateway drug is because it's the most readily available illegal drug. "The more users become integrated in an environment where, apart from cannabis, hard drugs can also be obtained, the greater the chances they will experiment with harder drugs." In other words, if pot was legal, it would be impossible for it to lead to other drugs.
Another thing about those facts that you brough up 8-bit, how do you know that Marijuana is not included in "All Illegal Drugs."
Because then they wouldn't have given it its own section.
or decided to commit suicide because they were under the influence
What the hell kind of weed did you smoke? Was it laced? Because as far as I'm concerned, weed does not make you depressed, especially not enough to make you end your life. Weed makes you happy. I know a girl, whose name will be Susan, who just got really down on herself a lot. She started seeing a therapist and taking prescription pills to fight the depression (that was about a year ago). Three months ago she started smoking weed and it has helped her immensely. Even the therapist agreed that as something she could keep to herself from her parents (her parents nosy personalities were part of the problem), it's made her more secure. Now it's not like weed changed her life or anything. She has a long way to go still, but at least it's giving her a shove in the right direction.
My final reasons, which most pot smokers will never believe is as follows: Smoking 5 joints in a week has more carcinogens (cancer causing agents) in them than a pack of cigarettes a day. I have been in many rehabs and had this told to me and have looked it up many a times; it's true
I won't look it up, I'll take your word for it. But how come there has never been a recorded death in the history of the world where Marijuana or a health problem caused by smoking pot was the cause of death? And yet millions die every year from cigarettes. Maybe a lot of pot heads do smoke cigarettes, but it doesn't work the other way. There are tons of tobaccos smokers who would never touch pot.
Marijuana has a psychological withdrawal to it; its a known fact.
No. It's not a "known fact." It's not difficult at all to stop smoking pot. You get that "psychological withdrawal" when you also smoke cigarettes and that craving makes you crave tobacco and weed. I do not ever crave weed because I don't smoke cigarettes. I regularly take monthly breaks from pot when I feel I'm using it too much. It's not hard.
My other big reason is simple. It's true that if it was legalized, no one would be able to make any real money on it since it's easy to grow. However, how much money would be saved if we stopped having to try and stop it. How much money is spent every year on catching, persecuting, jailing, etc. criminals with pot-related crimes? I don't know the exact number, but I'm certain it's damned high. So while you're not making any money on it directly, you're saving a lot not trying to stop it. (Not to mention freeing up the manpower for better uses.)
QFT.

About a year ago I announced (in some arbitrary thread) that I was a casual smoker of pot. I was shocked by some of the reactions I got from certain members of the community (some good, some bad) but that's life. I've now found out that I'm not the only person on OB who smokes and so I decided to make a thread about it. However because a thread on just marijuana wouldn't be very exciting for those of you who don't smoke, I thought I'd make it more interesting by making the topic the Legalization of Pot. Cool? Let's get started with some facts.
ANNUAL AMERICAN DEATHS CAUSED BY DRUGS TOBACCO (legal) ........................ 400,000 ALCOHOL (legal) ........................ 100,000 ALL LEGAL DRUGS ................ 20,000 ALL ILLEGAL DRUGS .............. 15,000 CAFFEINE ....................... 2,000 ASPIRIN ........................ 500 MARIJUANA (illegal?) ...................... 0 ---------------------------------------- Source: United States Government National Institute on Drug Abuse, Bureau of Mortality Statistics
It is impossible for a human being to consume so much marijuana that it kills them. The very worst that can happen if you overuse pot is extremely lethargic behavior and possible "greening out" (puking) which only happens if you smoke A LOT (in my 3 years of smoking I have never greened out) and have a lot of food in your system. I could ramble on with tons of reasons for making pot legal, but I'd really like to hear what you guys have to say first and then I'll respond. So do you think it should be legal? Why or why not? And of course if you do smoke pot, I'd like to know! :)

All of the games mentioned so far are great. Especially Phantom Hourglass and Advanced Wars. If you're into role playing games like FFIII then I suggest you check out The World Ends With You. (click) It's a great game with a very unique combat system, intriguing story line and lovable characters. It'll keep you busy for quite a while. If you like puzzle games, then you have to rent/buy the ultimate puzzle game available on the DS. Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords. It's a really cool puzzle game where you fight enemies with magic and such and advance through a decent story line.
But what really confuses me is that the intro shows them as high school kids in the "real world" so to speak but in the show they never mention it at all like .hack, is it actually a video game or it is just a video game esque show?
It's more just kind of poking fun at the fact that Tower of Druaga (the anime) is actually based off an arcade game made by Namco called Tower of Druaga (1984). You'll notice that same sprite art-style used through out the series (at one point they even play the game). So yeah, I'm pretty sure the fact that they seem to be regular high school students (and other things, like the Mage is a janitor) is just for the theme song and has nothing to do with the story. I don't think we'll see any dimension-traveling in the near future.
-
So... is anyone else following this show?
It has been 60 years since King Gilgamesh defeated "the tower" single-handedly, and now the tower is reborn again. The "Summer of Anu" is a season that comes every few years during which the powers of the monsters within the Tower wane thanks to the grace of the great god Anu. Each Summer of Anu, the armies of the Uruk Kingdom secure their strongholds within the Tower, aiming to eventually conquer the upper floors. The story begins with the third Summer of Anu. The city of Meskia is the first stronghold built on the first level of the Tower. In addition to the Uruk Army preparing for their third campaign against Druaga, innumerable adventurers called "climbers" have been drawn to Meskia by rumors of a legendary treasure believed to be hidden on the top floor of the Tower. Jil, a young guardian, has traveled to the tower and Metz Kier, the last safe stop on the first floor of the tower. Jil wants to gain the Blue Crystal Rod, the legendary treasure that resides on the top floor of the tower. On the top floor is the evil lord Druaga, and numerous monsters among the way.
This show is actually legally available on YouTube/Crunchyroll with English subtitles which is really quite cool (although I watch it on Veoh). The genre is very fantasy/medieval with lots of cool action but because it's based off a video game it also has a lot of humor which separates it from other animes of the same genre (like .hack). I don't watch a lot of anime (the only animes I've watched through to the end are Digimon, DBZ, FullMetal Alchemist, Death Note and Claymore) but this one has really caught my attention so if you're a fan of video games or a fan of fantasy anime then I highly recommend you start watching The Tower of Druaga!

Gaming Guitar Hero IV: Rock Band's Future Nemesis
Ellerby replied to Aberinkula's topic in Noosphere
See, I'm talking about the career mode, where, you beat a song, say, Mississippi Queen in one club as a bonus set or something, then you go to another club and Mississippi Queen is the first song I have to play. It has happened more than once to me. Also, there are ALOT of songs on Rock Band that I dislike playing, such as Long Time, which I was forced to play in order to get to the next set list on Expert (see, I don't play on any other difficulty, atleast on Guitar).
Alright, I'll give you the career mode thing. I can see that happening (though I still say it's avoidable, there are tons of different set lists including make your own set lists you can do to unlock fans and venues, even at the beginning of the game).
As for the whole "I beat the game on Expert thing" it's just as good as saying "I beat every song on expert". I mean, you can play the entire game and set list on hard, normal, and easy, this is just making it where you don't have to do it over and over again until your at expert level for the song. IF you want, you can just go back, and re-beat the song on a higher difficult when you are ready, and if you are a beast, you'll beat all the songs on expert eventually, and I'm very, very sure, be rewarded for it. I don't see the difference other than it being a plus.[/color']
That's just my point, if you're skipping songs to get to a new set list you aren't beating every song on expert. If you want those bragging rights, you have to go back and play the song anyway! I guess I just always enjoyed playing through the game on Hard, beating it, and then attempting to beat Expert mode from the very beginning.
They are also bringing the "make a song", "design an instrument", and enhancing the create-a-character, along with two new controllers.[/color']
Making a song isn't going to be anything special. You can't add vocals and I doubt it will have much depth at all, though I guess we'll have to wait and see. I haven't heard anything about design an instrument so I can't comment on that but as far as the create-a-character thing goes can they really improve on Rock Band in that department? I've had Rock Band for a solid 5 months now and my character is still changing. Tons of clothes/hairstyles/instruments/tattoos (which, in itself, is a blast) make for completely unique characters. I have never run into anyone online that looked even remotely similar to my character. Guitar Hero 3 had what? 10 characters to choose from? Of course their character creation is going to be considered a "re-enhancement." It didn't even exist in previous games. And what new controllers? So help me god if you mention the drum kit. That hardly counts as "new." -

Well first and third, second wasn't exactly my favorite. XP
Everyone I talk to that has seen the originals says that as well. Was the second really that bad? I saw Indy 4 last night with my Dad and I've got to say, I loved it. It was better then Prince Caspian and it was just as good as Iron Man (definitely not better, though). The whole movie was just a real adventure and I was pissed when I had to go to the bathroom for 5 minutes in the middle of it. lol The dialogue was witty and well-written. Shai LaBeouf was excellent as Mutt. I was worried he would be playing that same role he always plays in every other movie/show, but he did a pretty good job of being unique. As for the actual story, it was... alright. It was great in the sense that it brought the heroes to a bunch of different exotic locations but the ending was so... George Lucas. About halfway through the movie it was pretty easy to predict certain things about the actual Crystal Skull and I just don't think the ending justified the series. And that's coming from someone who's never even seen the first 3.
Seriously, inter-dimensional beings? Come on, Lucas.

You just know that LeBouf's character will be cracking jokes about his age throughout the whole movie.[/color']
And I was so right. "What are you? 80?" Ahaha.

Gaming Guitar Hero IV: Rock Band's Future Nemesis
Ellerby replied to Aberinkula's topic in Noosphere

Several things that made me hate both GH and Rock Band are being fixed apparently, such as the ability to play whatever you wish through out your career without obligations to songs that you don't want to play, not because you can't, but because you think they suck (i.e. The first two set lists on GH3).
...dude, you can do that in Rock Band. Save for eventually having to play every single song in a row if you want to beat the endless setlist (which I still haven't) you can easily fly through World Tour mode without ever playing crappy songs. As for single-player career mode, which is what I'm assuming you're referring to, I think the ability to skip songs is bullocks. Are you really beating the game if you can't bring yourself to beat every song on a certain difficulty? By allowing people to "cheat" they're taking away the whole "I finally beat Guitar Career on Expert!" thing.
You don't have to replay the same songs thirty times (I'm looking at you, Rock Band...) though you can if you want. [/color']
What? At what point in Rock Band does it ever make you play a song more than once? In Single-Player you play it once and that's it and in World Tour you can avoid playing certain songs entirely! I think Guitar Hero IV will be good. Heck, it will probably be great! But only because they're sticking with what works. They aren't bringing anything new to the table (although the touch-sensitive drum pads IS a nice addition, I'll admit).
