1. Name: Baba the Delusional Race: Deku Gender: Male Brief character history: On the outside Baba appears to be an over sized Deku scrub (possibly with a royal background) with arms and a staff made from a dried Deku Baba (hence the name). However there is much more to Baba then that. Over 200 years ago a somewhat gullible old Human with strong magical powers was persuaded into handing his enchanted staff over to a Gerudo conman. The Gerudo then used the staff to forever curse this man by turning him into the Deku known as Baba. Waking up as a Deku with no magical powers, a very angry Baba sought to find the Gerudo man that stole his life. For 200 years he's been traveling everywhere his little feet will take him, questioning every traveler he comes across. Telling other Dekus about the story of how he lost his magical staff and was cursed to forever live as Deku is what earned him the name "Baba the Delusional." Maybe someday Babu will get his staff back and become the great wizard he once was. Image: See attachment (minus the large bulbous on his back, everything else stays). I hope you don't mind that I used the Deku King as my appearance. It seemed to fit my character well.

    Wanted

*
Bear with me, but I also though Morgan Freeman saying "Oh, ****" and "kill this ************" were so incredibly OOC and lolz.

I completely agree. I thought this movie was pretty kickass. Much like Shoot 'Em Up, I think the over exaggerated fight scenes and cheesy dialogue is what makes the movie awesome. Thankfully there was very little cheesy dialogue so in the end it ended up more like Fight Club than Shoot 'Em Up. Except not as epic. Because Fight Club is awesome. I've got to say there was some pretty cool camera tricks used through out the movie. The special effects were amazing.
My favourite part of the entire movie is when James McAvoy freaks out at his boss lady and then his "friend" pops up and James takes a keyboard and ***** smacks him as hard as he can across the face. The best part of it is that when a bunch keys fly at the screen and they spell out "F U C K (tooth) Y O U."

  4.
Anyway, perhaps I should pick up the book and read it, after I see the show of course, reading before seeing it is a sure way to have yourself going...I can't believe they left that or this out. XP
Yeah, I just finished reading the book today. It's absolutely enthralling and I must say that Jules Verne really is the father of science fiction. But just like you said, even from watching the trailer I notice a bunch of stuff that's all out of place and is already bugging me. First off is that they seem to have changed the characters. In the book its three men, two seniors and a young adult (2 geologists and a guide) but for some reason instead of a guide they have a girl and the Professors nephew is a kid. The movie is obviously just going for the family laughs and isn't taking the book seriously at all, which bothers me quite a bit. But that's what I get for reading it before I see the movie! I should watch previous JttCotE movies and see if they lived up to the book. The trailer you posted, Aaryanna, looks like it is a much better representation even if it's a little dated.
  5.
So that's more what I'm thinking of. But until we have enough people interested in actually running such a podcast, I don't think it will happen. I personally don't have the time to do it and it would be a big commitment.
Well, what if we do get enough people interested? I mean really, how many other members are regularly checking this thread? This is a great idea that could bring the whole community together more and I think it'd be a shame if it didn't happen. I'll do anything I can to help launch this and if that means just getting more members interested then I'll get on that. This would be a really unique podcast in that it would be made by the community for the community. If this was started we could create a Podcast thread where any member can drop in their own ideas for future podcasts. It would keep members interested and it would also keep each Podcast episode fresh and new. I really like this idea and I don't want to see it just passed over like all the other ideas in this thread. What is the point of this thread if we never do any of the events, anyway?
  6. An OtakuBoards "Radio" Podcast would be just awesome. I'm surprised nobody thought of that sooner. Interviewing other members of the site/theOtaku would be neat. It'd be really cool to put a voice to all the members here. We could have small commercials to advertise threads or something. Or what if we got some members to write one of those old audio-only shows they played on the radios way back when? There is a lot you can do with a podcast. Really I'd be happy with any sort of event right now.
  7.
You wake up one summer morning and, having no plans for the day, jump on the computer. You open your homepage, OtakuBoards.com, and notice an interesting new thread entitled ?A Real Competition.? Intrigued by the title, you click on the thread. Everything after that is a blur. You remember a high-pitched buzzing from the computer and some flashing lights, but that?s it. Opening your eyes to a beautiful sun soaked sky and a seemingly endless ocean you quickly realize you?re no longer at home. Looking around you see other people waking up on the beach, coming to the same conclusion. Nobody says anything. The dawning silence is broken by a quiet but alarming cry in the distance. Everyone looks towards the ocean. A silhouette in the sky grows bigger as it gets closer, revealing a middle-aged man who seems ecstatic at the sight of a beach littered with confused people. He's dressed in very fashionable clothing and rides some sort of green hover bike with? wings? As the biker gets closer, you realize that it?s no vehicle the man is riding. It?s a winged Yoshi. You pinch yourself to make sure you aren?t hallucinating. The Yoshi lands with surprising force into the dirt in front of you and lets out a very believable Yoshi cry. One girl, clearly not believing what?s happening, mocks the Yoshi. ?Nice Yoshi. D'you raise him yourself?? she says sarcastically. The man gets off the Yoshi and taps its behind once, freeing it of all duties. The Yoshi flies away happily, letting out one last Yoshi cry before disappearing over the horizon. ?No, I didn't.? he says. ?My friend Mario did. You may know him... he's in the plumbing business. You'll find that there are a lot of things you would never think possible in your world that are very real and very possible here.? ?Bollocks.? an English girl remarks with a snarky tone. ?Right, let me just explain to you all what?s happening. You are all here to take place in a competition of a different kind.? ??A Real Competition?? you mutter to yourself, realizing that the last thing you did was click on that thread. The man beams you a smile. ?Precisely!? he exclaims. ?You are all members of OtakuBoards and all expressed interest in my grand competition!? The members all looked around. Were they all really from OtakuBoards? ?Wait a minute. I didn?t express interest in your stupid competition, I just clicked on the damn thread.? someone beckons. ?Son, where I come from, if you knock on the door, you want in the house.? the man replies. ?Now, let?s begin with the rules, shall we?? RULES

Challenges Each week there will be a new challenge. These will be challenges like you?ve never seen before. The objective of the challenges will not be obvious right from the get go but I trust you'll be able to figure out what to do as each challenge runs its course. :whoops:
Roleplaying In between challenges is your chance to get to know each other and perhaps make or break alliances. Our lovely Otaku Hotel has a pool, an arcade, a theatre, and even a mini-golf course.
Exploring As this entire competition is taking place on an island, there are many different secrets to be found. Locations, hidden items that will help during challenges and even a treasure chest are only a few of the many things you can find on the island. The only way you can unlock these is by exploring the island when challenges aren?t in session (there is even a little exploring to be done in the Otaku Hotel!). Exploring is optional.
Winning Each week, two immunities will be handed out. One to the winner of the challenge and one to the Player of the Week. These two players together will decide together who will go home and be booted out of the competition for good. In the event that the two Immune Players cannot agree on one person, they will each pick the player they feel needs to be kicked and I, the host, will decide who is more deserving to stay.

WHAT NOW? Now you sign-up! Here?s what I need from you. Your OtakuBoards Username: Nickname: If you don?t want to be called SephirothLover1784328 then I don?t blame you so if you have another name you?d like to be called then write that here. Previous OtakuBoards Usernames you?ve used are recommended but not necessary. Age: Gender: Why are you better then every other member on this forum? One last thing? You should all know that this is NOT a writing competition. Each challenge is set up in a way that leaves everyone on an even playing field, whether or not you can write well is irrelevant (though I will admit that good writers are more likely to find things while exploring outside of challenges). Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward to seeing your responses!
  8. I recently made a huge 9 minute Gaming Music Video (GMV?) so I'd like to share it with you guys. I figure this is the most appropriate place to post it. 9. A couple of days ago the ice crystal decor on the World of Warcraft website began to crack. Last night, those crystals shattered and the flames that are Diablo III were released. Excitement! Before I say anything, please watch the Cinematic Trailer and the awesomely long Gameplay Trailer (featuring one new class, the Witch Doctor) located here. I never really played Diablo much when it was popular, I was much more into Starcraft. Even so, as a fan of games like Baldur's Gate and other dungeon crawlers I'm really looking forward to D3. The graphics look astonishing. Physics are incredible (destructible environment ftw) and even the story seems like it will be lots of fun. I don't know about you guys, but this game looks done. lol

    Wall-E

This came out yesterday, how has nobody posted yet?! I got the pleasure of seeing this in an advanced screening on Thursday with my work mates. Before I say anything about the movie, I must mention that at the beginning there is a cute little short called "Presto!" featuring a fame-hungry magician and his hungry rabbit which is just hilarious. I look forward to seeing it again when I see Wall-E a second time. :D If there is one thing that this movie does better than any other Pixar film before it (except for maybe Finding Nemo) is attention to detail. There are times when the camera will do a face shot of Wall-E and you can literally make out little scratches and dents in his metal from all the years of collecting garbage. From little things like that to the perfect clasping of a longing robots hands bring this movie to life and you get attached to all the characters instantly. I won't say much else because I don't want to give anything away but if you haven't seen it yet go see it.

  12. In preparation for the movie coming out this summer of the same name, I'm reading Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne. I wanted to pick this up a while ago but my library didn't have it which was extremely disheartening. But the other day my dad surprised me with my very own copy. :) The first few chapters are so interesting. It starts off by introducing two of the characters via a book one of them finds almost right away (and the way it plays out is just amazing, Verne was a genius). In this book they find a parchment with runic characters on it (which are shown) and as you read through the next chapter or two, the secrets to deciphering the code are slowly revealed. I haven't read much past that, but I'm excited to go to bed tonight (which is the only time I read).
  13.
I know that this is very rare these days, but what are peoples thoughts that some LARPS are actually real, with small armies coming out of their woodland homes to steal magical treasures or defend woodland fortresses such as Elfwood, which was quite often plundered back in the darker days. It's certainly mindblowing to know that this probably still happens in this day and age and that LARPS are actually real life battles between good and bad.
...Prick Wizard?! :o

Bacon, sausage, home fries, eggs (scrambled or sunny side up), pancakes (lots of maple syrup, chocolate chips are a must), waffles (again, lots of maple syrup) and some sort of fruit (usually a banana) all make excellent breakfast food. I also always have a tall glass of orange juice. And to those of you who don't eat breakfast... SHAME ON YOU.

Oh well.
Retro Review! Super Mario Bros. Developer: Nintendo Released: 1985 System: NES Rated: E The game that started it all. It thrilled kids and family members alike everywhere, moved mountains of consoles, single-handedly ended the Video Game Crash of 1983, is still to this very day the best selling video game of all time (over 40 million copies sold) and changed the way video games were made forever. This is Super Mario Bros. Gameplay: Back when graphics were a non-issue, game play was the most important thing gamers looked for. And SMB was chalk full of unique game play. The completely diverse levels, characters and power-ups were so mind blowingly awesome compared to certain drab and boring atari games that it raised the bar for not just future video games, but future game consoles. Precision controls. If you play SMB enough (which isn't hard, the game has incredible replay value) you'll find yourself landing and jumping exactly where you want. If you ever died by an enemy or fell down a hole in SMB, it was your own fault. Not the game. On top of all this the happy faces in the background and the easy to learn controls make for a very enjoyable experience wether you plan on playing for 5 minutes or 5 hours. Music: There are four musical scores in the game, all written by Koji Kondo. Overworld, Underworld, Underwater and Fortress. I'm sure you can guess when each song plays during the game. The music on its own has become a legend in itself. Every person in their right mind knows the melody to Super Mario Bros. Replay Value: This game can be played for days... no, weeks without boring you. That's how I felt anyway, when I downloaded it from the Virtual Console a couple of months ago and played it for the very first time since I was like 5. I've never had so much fun doing trial and error in a video game in my life. Usually in games where you're constantly dying you tend to give up but there is a certain "You can do it!" atmosphere in SMB that makes it seem a bit more like a marathon which encourages you to keep going. When (if) you finally get to the very end of the game and manage to sneak past Bowser, sending his reptilian butt into the lava, the game then offers you a Hard Mode. Goombas are replaced by Fire-impervious shelled enemies, enemies walk fast, and the game is just a lot more difficult. In the end this is one of the best games I have ever played. If you've never played it... shame on you. Overview Gameplay: 10/10 Music: 9.5/10 Replay Value: Unlimited/10 FINAL SCORE: 10/10

  21. Currently reading The Invisible Man by one of of the fathers of science fiction, H.G. Wells (second only to Jules Verne). I've never seen any of the Invisible Man movies so it's nice not knowing what's going to happen. It's also my very first Wells book. I love the way he writes. It has a very mysterious and intriguing style to it that just draws you in from the get go. The actual story is really neat. It's about a young scientist who discovers the key to invisibility using himself as a guinea pig and the destructive path he leaves behind trying to reverse the effects. There's one part in the third chapter that I really loved. This takes place while the "stranger" (the invisible man) is residing in a sort of motel room attempting to create an antidote.
[pindent=2]All the afternoon he worked with the door locked and, as Mrs. Hall testifies, for the most part in silence. But once there was a concussion and a sound of bottles ringing together as though the table had been hit, and the smash of a bottle flung violently down, and then a rapid pacing athwart the room. Fearing ?something was the matter,? she went to the door and listened, not caring to knock.[/pindent] [pindent=2]?I can?t go on,? he was raving. ?I can?t go on. Three hundred thousand, four hundred thousand! The huge multitude! Cheated! All my life it may take me! Patience! Patience indeed! Fool and liar!"[/pindent] [pindent=2]There was a noise of hobnails on the bricks in the bar, and Mrs. Hall very reluctantly had to leave the rest of his soliloquy. When she returned the room was silent again, save for the faint crepitation of his chair and the occasional clink of a bottle. It was all over. The stranger had resumed work.[/pindent]

  22. Well they aren't as good as the others in this thread, but I like them! From top to bottom is oldest to newest. The third one is actually from a scene in Speed Racer, although you wouldn't know it because the car looks like a marshmallow. And Hybrid, I love the Mario. Even if his eyes are a little wonky. Much better then anything I could do. >_
  23. With all those game reviewing sites out there (IGN, Game Spot, GameTrailers, etc) I thought it would be cool if us OBers could have our own growing collection of reviews. There are a lot of members here who know a lot about games and are perfectly qualified to Rate and Review one. So why not, right? Basically anyone can post a review for any game (new, old, foreign, whatever) as long as the game isn't in production. On either a weekly or bi-weekly basis, I'll take those reviews and add them to this world, called "Arcade Reviews." This can be more then just a compilation of reviews, though. We can do game awards if we want (maybe halfway through the year?) and have "Members Choice" games (where multiple people rate a game over a certain score). The way the actual review is written is entirely up to you. I'll provide an example template but you do not have to use the same one. As long as you have at least 3 paragraphs and a final score, that's good enough. Oh and, obviously, you have to have played through most of the game. Unless it sucks. To start off, here's my review of Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction.
As my very first Ratchet and Clank game, and my very first Insomniac game in a long time, I have to say this game took me by surprise. I expected a fun yet repetitive child-like adventure and what I got was a unique and thrilling experience with child-like humor. Graphics: The graphics are phenomenal. I wouldn't say the cinematics are on par with the likes of Pixar, but it's damn close. The environment, no matter where you are, is just breath-taking. The art style is very large and dramatic, but still matches the cartoon characters and enemies well. Story: While at first I thought I'd just be getting fart jokes throughout the entire game, Ratchet and Clank goes way beyond that. Some of the funniest lines are reminiscent of Glados from the Orange Box. Very similar humor, and it works too (of course there is other humor in the game, reminiscent of Looney Tunes, but that's not necessarily a bad thing). The actual story is pretty shallow. While it never gets predictable, it doesn't exactly keep you on the edge of your seat either. Still, it's good enough to encourage you to play through the game and go to all the different worlds. Game Play: This is where the game shines. A little over an hour into the game and you'll have a good 8 weapons to switch between during battles. Plus your basic swing attack. There are so many weapons, devices, add-ons, upgrades, and armor that once you start unlocking more and more of them, I guarantee you'll find it hard to stop. I hit that point when I bought myself the Tornado Launcher. As you use weapons more, they eventually upgrade and get even better effects. You can also upgrade them by using Raritanium (which you find on enemies and hidden in crates/chests) to make them even better. Simply put, this is an excellent game for any fan of platform/adventure games. And as a PS3 exclusive, it's definitely the best game of its genre on the system. Overview Graphics: 8/10 Story: 7/10 Gameplay: 9.5/10 FINAL SCORE: 9/10
Feel free to take other factors into account with your score. Replay value? Music? Online? Anything works because it's your review. So please, don't be shy and write a review!
  24.
Have you ever been playing a video game and run across a creature/monster and immediately thought... 25. This could probably be merged with the GTA IV thread but I'll answer anyway. Not like Mods can't merge threads. I actually just got GTA IV a couple days ago (for 20 bucks! Brand new!). A few days before the game launched, I had to send my broken 360 away for repairs so when it finally got back I was more then eager to sit in front of my TV for a few days straight. I don't think I'm very far in the Story Mode yet (last major event that took place was
killing Faustins daughters biker boyfriend
) but I've still experienced a lot in the game. This is my first GTA game, by the way. So what's the funniest thing that has happened? That would probably have to be what happened to me while biking today. I was going down a straight-away on a motorcycle as fast as I could and I slammed right into the back of a taxi and flew off the bike. I think I had a good 10 seconds of air time (which is quite a bit) before finally landing on a police car. And I survived! They flicked on their sirens and jumped out of the car, guns drawn. I couldn't run away because one more shot would have killed me anyway so I let them take me in. Something new always seems to happen in this game. It's really quite amazing.
