Other blogs are just places where you spill your thoughts out, and recieved little to no feedback. On MySpace, I've found that things I post are read and commented upon by friends... so it's not a complete waste of time like generic blogging is.
Blogger and myOtaku both have "Comments" features for individual posts. LiveJournal has a thread-like "Comments" feature which is even more interactive. What makes MySpace more social in its comment features? -Arvi
  2. Yeah, try to avoid hotlinking so that this problem doesn't happen again. This is the picture you're trying to show, right? -Arvi
  3. Sound of Music wasn't that bad. It has good songs. "Do a deer, a female deer..." "These are few of my favourite things..." la la la -dances- The worst movie I have ever seen was "Beauty Shop". I swear, I would pay to not see Queen Latifa again. It had no plot, and was either overly racial, or overly pointless. I want five hours of my life back. No it wasn't that long, it just felt like it. -Arvi
  4.
I haven't watched Naruto, but I'm going to get the disc this weekend! *Woots* =P I heard its pretty good so I'm pretty excited about it. =)
Hey Anna-sama, welcome to Otakuboards. Particularly, the Naruto thread xP. ^^ Naruto is a good series, at least... it becomes good. The beginning is a little slow and repetitive because a lot of the episodes have a very, very long flashback about the previous episode. If you can be patient through those episode, I'm sure you'll become as addicted to Naruto as much as we have. ^^
I'm so afraid for Rock Lee's voice... :( They may give him a goofy voice because of his eyebrows, which I don't even notice anymore. :animesigh
I agree with Gaara Kun that it matches Rock Lee's voice matches his personality. But, I always though Rock Lee's voice was pretty goofy in the Japanese version. He sounds like a kid in puberty whose voice might crack any minute. The reason I say this matches his personality is because Lee is pretty goofy by nature. Especially those scenes he has with Gai-sensei.
Guy sensei! Lee! Guy sensei! Lee! (a beach sunset scene appears in the background)
xD The nice thing I found about Rock Lee's voice is that although it IS goofy, it can also be powerful. When he fights, shouts, or screams... it's always shway. -Arvi
  5. ^^ sorry it's late. but as always, it's hard to decide... heh. Winner:
celestialcharm!!

"Back off! Get your own sandwich!"
Runner Up:
pupmon!!

"So, you're the ones responsible for the One Piece dub!"
-Arvi
  6. Maybe you should check your link. ^^ I'm getting a 404 error. -Arvi
  7.
Why dont we take out our anger in a healthy way? Let's each give everything we hate about the dubb.
Sure, I'll give you a few things. -Kakashi's voice. Those who have been reading my posts on this topic know that his is the voice that I just can't seem to get adjusted to. Kinda like how I never got used to Wufei... though I hated Wufei's Japanese voice too. -"Believe it!!" A terribly annoying phrase. -Schedule... they used to air repeats of new shows during the week. For example, if they aired a new show on Friday, the next Tuesday and Thursday would have the same episode just in case you missed it. Naruto is only on once a week, and the repeat is at 2.30 in the morning. Of course, this is YTV so you guys don't have to deal with this. ^^ Other than that, I like the dub... which is why I'm always defending it. It's a good dub. -Arvi
  8. Retribution - I'm not sure I understand the message. I know it's family, but the nuclear family is different from all the others, does that mean all the others are dysfunctional? Unlike Katana, I didn't find the system at all boring. I feel, though, that the browser isn't the best place to see it. Rather, I'd like to see it on the side of a bus shelter, or on a wall. I especially like the text at the bottom, very professional. Kitty - I like how you decided to go with an unconventional family. The whole thing about mother, father, and 2.5 kids isn't in your picture at all. That's refreshing. I don't like the anime in it though. The cut outs at the top seem out of place. It also took me a while to realize that it said their names behind them. I like the way you designed the heart, did you make that yourself? I don't think it fits in with the picture though. I like the way you seperated the bottom (main) picture from the top (pink) pictures. Plus, the basic design is simple, and things are more beautiful when they aren't cluttered up everywhere. My vote has to go to Retri because of the professionality and great usage of the principals of design. We have Balance because every family works in a symmetrical pattern. We have Rhythm because every family is evenly spaced, and evenly sized. We even have Dominance. The pink family -definately- stands out from the mundane black families. Retribution for the win! -Arvi
  9.
Is anyone else dissapointed by the english dubbing? I find Narutos voice so annoying my ears bleed whem I hear it. He says BELIVE IT every time he opens his mouth. They should change his voice to something less irratating like the screams of a dying animal.
Yeah, lots of people are dissappointed with the English dubbing. I think, though, that's just a bunch of whining. They didn't censor out as much as they could have, and they didn't change much. As for the voices, Naruto's is very similar to the Japanese voice. The most annoying voice so far is Sakura, but that matches her character. That's actually one of the reasons I like her voice. For characters that don't seem to match their voice... Kakashi doesn't really rub me very well. But Naruto's voice? I love it. Granted the "Believe it!!" saying is a little annoying, but what else could they translate "Dattebayo!" into? Remember, everytime you hear "Believe it!!" the Japanese people had to endure "Dattebayo!!"
Shikamaru - doesn't sound annoyed enough Iruka - thought it would sound a bit younger, but that one is actually okay I also don't like the way they translated the techs. 'Shadow Clone Jutsu?' :twitch: But I still have high hopes.
Hey Sasukekungirl! Welcome to OB! Don't forget to add spoiler tags to that part near the end of your post (that part about Zabuza) for those who might not have reached there yet! I agree with you about Shikamaru. He didn't sound very annoyed, but to be fair, we only heard him say two or three lines so far. He might surprise us later on. As for Iruka, it's funny you say that. Another person was complaining that he sounded "too young". Just goes to show that there will always be people complaining about the dub. And you don't like Shadow Clone Jutsu? I thought it was a great way to do it. Shadow Clone is a literal translation of "Kage Bunshin", and since there's no translation to "Jutsu" they kept that in! Hey, a lot of fans were already used to the "no jutsu" thing before the dub came out anyway! I think it's a waaay better translation than "ART OF THE DOPPLEGANGER!!!" ...what was Shonen Jump thinking when they did that. -Arvi
  10. I would have assumed that locking any such entries would defeat the entire purpose of wikipedia. -Arvi
  11. Just an update... Since the news of the WikiPrank got around the net, a wave of pranks hit the Online Encyclopedia, mostly for the purpose of discreditting the site. The prank entires are constantly being erased and fixed, but according to the article, they keep popping up. There's a theory that says the attacks may have been organized in chat rooms and the such. One of the articles suggested that the creator of Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales, was shot in the head by Seigenthaler's wife.
Today's false report of its founder's murder read: "At 18:54 EST on December 12, John Seigenthaler's wife, who was infuriated at Wikipedia regarding the recent scandal regarding his role in the Kennedy Assassination, came into the house, where Jim was having dinner. Wearing a mask, he [sic] shot him three times in the head and ran."
The article for "Wikipedia" was also editted a few times.
A search for the term 'Wikipedia' revealed the one-line entry: "An encyclopedia full of crap." Subsequent searches revealed: "Although it may seem factual, Wikipedia is largely a web of lies and falsehoods, and it is not to be trusted by any means. Do not use wikipedia as a source for anything; it is worthless." And later: "Editors are encouraged to uphold a policy of sticking it's head up it's ***; under which notable perspectives are summarised without an attempt to determine an objective truth."
Full Article: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,3-1933568,00.html Edit:
I don't think we really need to add the prefix "wiki" to everything, do we? I mean, come on. This isn't Digimon. ;)[/color']
hehe, but it's wikifun. xP and it makes me feel like i might wikivolve. but hey, it aint as bad as the live action Batman series with Adam West. As for...
Because, for the same reason that the information was put there in the first place, Mr. Seigenthaler could have easily corrected it himself.[/color']
According to Wikipedia...(heh)
Since many people read Seigenthaler's op-ed, and few people responded to the original article, some Citation needed Wikipedia contributors (known as Wikipedians) questioned his reluctance to simply correct the page. Seigenthaler responded to this in an interview on NPR (National Public Radio). He said that he did not want to have anything to do with Wikipedia because he disapproved of its basic assumptions. He also pointed out that the false information had been online for several months before he was aware of it, and that he could not edit Wikipedia when he did not even know of the article's existence. Editing Wikipedia, he suggested, would lend it his sanction or approval. He believed that editing the article was not enough and instead wanted to expose what he thought are "incurable flaws" in the Wikipedia process and ethos.
Full Article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Seigenthaler_Sr._Wikipedia_biography_controversy -Arvi
  12. It can't be Tobi. Tobi knows that
Sasori is dead.
Also, if it were Tobi, he could have met with Sasori anytime in Kaze no Kuni (Wind Country - Where Sand is) and wouldn't have had to arrange this secret meeting at this Bridge in Kusa no Kuni (Grass Country). Not only that, it seems that Sasori was getting information about Otogakure no Sato (Hidden Sound Village). Remember, the point of this mission is the same as all those missions in the Anime-Filler Arcs, trying to gain information about Sasuke. This would mean that it'd have to be a Sound-Nin. Edit: As for it being Kakashi, I find that utterly ridiculous. The spy is from SOUND and he's spying for AKATSUKI. Kakashi can't be working for Orochimaru because we know his attitude towards him. During the Chuunin Prelim's, after Sasuke's fight, Kakashi confronts Orochimaru all by himself. It shows how much they trust each other. Kakashi can't be working for Akatsuki because he's confronted them too! He's fought against half their members! And he tried to kill
Deidara
! Not only that, did you forget that he's bedridden at the moment? He can't move. Do you remember the Spy from Sunagakure? He was a brand new character. He was in the story for about three chapters before
dying.
I find it difficult to assume that this spy will be much different. -Arvi
  13. I like your style a lot. The two things I have to point out first are the hand, and the neck. The hand doesn't look very right, and the neck seems a little strange, but it might just be the shoulders... or it may just be that I'm tired. I think the detail at the bottom and the sleeves of the sweater look nice, but it makes it seem like the bottom of the pants need more detail. Like I said, I like your style, and it would be shway to see this inked. -Arvi
  14.
1963? That's way too behind when it really was made... Havn't you ever seen Gigantor? That just goes to show you that anime was made before 1963, since it was made before AB...I may be wrong...BUT I believe still that anime was made in the 1920s believe it or not...
Gigantor aired on TV in 1963, same year as Astro Boy. Gigantor was a Manga in 1958, and Astro Boy was a Manga in 1952.
I think that anime started in the 1920s, so yeah that was long ago, but most anime back then had influence from Disney
The biggest thing that seems to have inspired Osamu Tezuka to create that whole Big Eyes Small Mouth (BESM) style was Bambi. That came out in 1942. Even Snow White, Disney's first animated feature, only came out 1937.
well, it's good enough to be an anime,
I have no idea what that is supposed to mean. Sorry to stray the topic again. I just wanted to clear up a few things that I didn't think were correct. I shall try to butt my nose out of this topic now. -Arvi
  15. Judging will be this weekend. I've noticed a lot of people have strayed from "Picture Caption" and are writing out entire diologues... That kinda defeats the purpose in my opinion. Oh well. edit: ps. sorry for the length it took for me to put this up. -Arvi
  16. There's no way of telling when the Naruto series will end. Even if we think the series should continue, Kishimoto may stop it at any time. Many people would agree that Hikaru no Go was way too short. Also, even if Kishimoto may feel like the story has run its course, he may be convinecd to keep going. This was the fate of Dragon Ball, which was supposed to end at the Frieza Saga. Both of those are from the same magazine as Naruto. ^^ As for the spy from Sound, I'm predicting that it'll be a new character. I find it difficult to believe that
Smithers~
*cough* Kabuto could ever betray
Burns~
*cough* Orochimaru. And, I doubt it's Sasuke, since he's out to
kill a member of the Akatsuki
, why would he bow down to another member? And it's not like the Akatsuki wouldn't recognize him, he
looks just like his brother!
-Arvi
  17. Talim is in it, but she's not as fast. Her moves don't combo as easily, but she jumps around a lot more. My friends say that she's more "cat-like". I used Talim almost exclusively in Soul Calibur II, but I can't see myself doing that in Soul Calibur III. My friends and I are obsessed with this game. It's the only thing we play when we're together, and all my friends practice by themselves when we're not. Usually, we pick one character and stick with it, but I haven't picked one yet. xD Like I said, I don't like Talim as much in this game. Maybe she's less cheap... hm... -Arvi
  18.
December 11, 2005 A Little Sleuthing Unmasks Writer of Wikipedia Prank By KATHARINE Q. SEELYE It started as a joke and ended up as a shot heard round the Internet, with the joker losing his job and Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia, suffering a blow to its credibility. A man in Nashville has admitted that, in trying to shock a colleague with a joke, he put false information into a Wikipedia entry about John Seigenthaler Sr., a former editor of The Tennessean in Nashville. Brian Chase, 38, who until Friday was an operations manager at a small delivery company, told Mr. Seigenthaler on Friday that he had written the material suggesting that Mr. Seigenthaler had been involved in the assassinations of John and Robert Kennedy. Wikipedia, a nonprofit venture that is the world's biggest encyclopedia, is written and edited by thousands of volunteers. Mr. Seigenthaler discovered the false entry only recently and wrote about it in an op-ed article in USA Today, saying he was especially annoyed that he could not track down the perpetrator because of Internet privacy laws. His plight touched off a debate about the reliability of information on Wikipedia - and by extension the entire Internet - and the difficulty in holding Web sites and their users accountable, even when someone is defamed. In a confessional letter to Mr. Seigenthaler, Mr. Chase said he thought Wikipedia was a "gag" Web site and that he had written the assassination tale to shock a co-worker, who knew of the Seigenthaler family and its illustrious history in Nashville. "It had the intended effect," Mr. Chase said of his prank in an interview. But Mr. Chase said that once he became aware last week through news accounts of the damage he had done to Mr. Seigenthaler, he was remorseful and also a little scared of what might happen to him. Mr. Chase also found that he was slowly being cornered in cyberspace, thanks to the sleuthing efforts of Daniel Brandt, 57, of San Antonio, who makes his living as a book indexer. Mr. Brandt has been a frequent critic of Wikipedia and started an anti-Wikipedia Web site (www.wikipedia-watch.org) in September after reading what he said was a false entry about himself. Using information in Mr. Seigenthaler's article and some online tools, Mr. Brandt traced the computer used to make the Wikipedia entry to the delivery company in Nashville. Mr. Brandt called the company and told employees there about the Wikipedia problem but was not able to learn anything definitive. Mr. Brandt then sent an e-mail message to the company, asking for information about its courier services. A response bore the same Internet Protocol address that was left by the creator of the Wikipedia entry, offering further evidence of a connection. A call by a New York Times reporter to the delivery company on Thursday made employees nervous, Mr. Chase later told Mr. Seigenthaler. On Friday, Mr. Chase hand-delivered a letter to Mr. Seigenthaler's office, confessing what he had done, and later they talked at length. Mr. Chase told him that the Seigenthaler name had come up at work and that he had popped it into a search engine and was led to Wikipedia, where, he said, he was surprised that anyone could make an entry. Mr. Chase wrote: "I am truly sorry to have offended you, sir. Whatever fame comes to me from this will be ill-gotten indeed." Mr. Seigenthaler said Mr. Brandt was "a genius" for tracking down Mr. Chase. He said he "was not after a pound of flesh" and would not take Mr. Chase to court. Mr. Chase resigned from his job because, he said, he did not want to cause problems for his company. Mr. Seigenthaler urged Mr. Chase's boss to rehire him, but Mr. Chase said that, so far, this had not happened. Mr. Chase said that as Mr. Brandt and the news media were closing in and he realized how much he had hurt Mr. Seigenthaler, he decided that stepping forward was "the right thing to do." Mr. Seigenthaler, founder of the First Amendment Center, said that as a longtime advocate of free speech, he found it awkward to be tracking down someone who had exercised that right. "I still believe in free expression," he said. "What I want is accountability." Jimmy Wales, who founded Wikipedia, said that the site would make more information about users available to make it easier to lodge complaints. But he portrayed the error as something that fell through the cracks, not a sign of a systemic problem. "We have to continually evaluate whether our controls are enough," he said.
This article is about a simple prank gone bad. The man who was insulted, John Seigenthaler, didn't press charges and insisted that the man who committed the prank, Brian Chase, should be rehired by his old boss. No harm done, really, but Wikipedia's reputation and credibility has suddenly decreased greatly. I always found it difficult to understand how Wikipedia could call itself a reliable source of information if anybody could post, but I always found their information pretty accurate. I always attributed it to how the volunteers are probably good natured and at least slightly intelligent. The fact that Wiki can be used for pranks makes a little more uneasy about using it in the future. Does anybody at Otakuboards use Wikipedia? If so, what are your thoughts on its reliablity? How has Mr. Chase's prank affected your view on the world's largest Encyclopedia? -Arvi
  19.
[spoiler']I though they said something about Sasori and him going to a meeting place though. I was under the impresion that Sasori was dead and such.

Spoilers concern Manga Chapter 285 and previous. The way I saw it was that
the Akatsuki spy thought that he was going to meet Sasori. Sasori revealed this to Sakura before he died.
Chapter 275, Page 10. (heh. went through a bit of digging. ^^) Inane v. The current mission for Team Kakashi is to gain information about Sasuke from Sasori's spy. Since the spy thinks that Sasori is going to be there, Captain Yamato wanted all the information he could get about Sasori. This is so they can pretend to be Sasori and fool the spy into giving them information.

Yamato asks Sakura because Sakura is the only person from Konohagakure who has really met him.
Maybe it's due to lack of sleep, but a wild thought just hit me in the face. 20. Sano99, welcome to OtakuBoards. =D This is the forum I posted my first post too. Yeah, Peacemaker Kurogane (Anime) was based off Shinsengumi Imon Peacemaker (Manga) and some parts of Peacemaker Kurogane (Manga). There are a lot of loose ends in Peacemaker Kurogane (Anime), so if they never tie them up, I wont be very happy. I hope they do, but I haven't heard any news of it. Where did you read PMK? Was it a scanlation or hard copy? I've been meaning to finish PMK but only got to the point when
a lot of cats appear... I think it was right after the Suzu killed his master.
-Arvi
  21.
but on the other hand what are u going to do about it
The great thing about journalism is that if you make a mistake, you have higher-ups that should be correcting you. The link I posted will let you contact the editors and tell them how you feel. If the site truly has integrity, and enough people contact them, the errors should be fixed. -Arvi
  22. I'm not happy with this "article". Near the end it seemed to dissolve into a rant against the corporations licensing anime. Especially this line: Eventually, most of the studios have come up with ways ... that make them look more like companies that appreciate their fans and less like greedy corporate SOB's, trying to suck money out of people who don't have it. The journalistic integrity is squat in this article. It's terribly biased from the anti-dub point of view. The author's only point, it seems, is that licensees are bad because they license, and protecting their license. There is no mention at all of the other side of the argument. There is no mention of the original purpose of fansubbing/tape swapping in comparison to the contemporary reasons for digital fansubbing. I stand by fansubbers. I can't oppose them because I believe fansubbers help create fans. Though, I do believe that some people go too far and lean towards pirating. If you feel strongly about this, you can email the editors at this url. http://dvd.ign.com/email.html -Arvie

I never played this game, but I read a er.. "review" on it. Actually, you could say that the review is more about the "Trance Vibrator" that came with it. It's not really pornographic, but the review is slightly adult oriented and has a picture of the reviewer's underwear so I wont post the link. If you want to read it, PM me or look it up on Google. ^^ -Arvie
  24.
It's not just based on Chinese culture, the fighting styles are from Japan, not china, and the clothese they wear are a mix of chinese and japanese.
I hear a lot that it's based off a Chinese story, Journey to the West. Wiki tells me that it's based off of a Hindu story where an Avatar has to master the four different breaths. The fighting styles in Avatar are Chinese, based off of Wu Xia styles. Waterbending uses Tai Chi. Earthbending uses Hung Gar. Firebending uses Norther Shaolin Kung Fu. Airbending uses Baguazhang.
I really don't think Avatar is an Anime because it's based on chinese culture. Some guy that he based the fighting and story on chinese culture and as far as i know ANIME is based on JAPANESE culture :animestun :p
That would mean that Saiyuki and Dragonball aren't Anime. Both of these were based off of Journey to the West, a Chinese novel. Even if Anime comes from Japan, the content doesn't have to be entirely Japanese. Monster, for example, is an Anime that takes place in Germany. Another example would be Yugo the Negotiator which takes place in the Middle East. If you define Anime as an Animated Work from Japan Avatar IS NOT Anime because it came from the United States. If you define Anime as a style of drawing/animation that originated in Japan Avatar IS Anime since the style of drawing is similar to Japanese Anime style.
It has an anime-type story. It has Asian traditons and culture. It has the Anime art-style (No I'm not talking about the Sailor moon look) It has a few Asian people helping out.
Anime type story? Anime is a broad medium that spans across all types of Genre. Excel Saga has a totally different style of story from Elfen Lied. Cowboy Bebop's story is totally different from Card Captor Sakura. There is no "Anime-type story". That's like saying there's a "movie-type" story, "television-type" story, or "book-type" story. It has Asian traditions and cultures? Not all anime have Asian "traditions and culture"s. What about the two I mentioned earlier, Yugo and Monster? Jackie Chan Adventures has Asian "traditions and culture" all throughout it. It's not considered Anime. What style art are you talking about? If it's drawing style (the Sailor Moon look) then, I would agree with you.. but you said that's not what you're talking about. If it's animation style, I disagree. Nickelodeon spends $1,000,000 per episode to produce Avatar. The animation is smoother, and more consistant. Avatar doesn't have anime-styled animation, it has better styled animation. So for something to be considered Anime it has to have Asian people in it? Again, Jackie Chan Adventures was chalk full of Asian people "helping out". Not anime. Berserk has no asian people (apparently) but it's still Anime! I'm not saying that you shouldn't consider Avatar to not be an Anime. That's your opinion, go ahead. I just think your reasoning is flawed, and I'm trying to point that out.
The newer Astro Boy is directed by a white guy, and people still call it an anime. So what's the difference with Avatar?
Astro Boy was created by a Japanese guy. Even if it's a remake, the original was an Anime. In fact, the original was one of the original Anime. Not only that, it's one of the most famous Anime created by the God of Manga/Father of Anime Osamu Tezuka. They may be so proud of Tezuka they refuse to believe that it's possible that the new Astroboy may not be Anime. -Arvie
