Discuss Band of the Blood Moon (Backstage)
Drizzt Do'urden replied to Drizzt Do'urden's topic in Theater
Alright we're all back up and running again, right now just concentrate on gathering up stuff cleaning up and getting reaquainted. Sorry I took the battle we were in away, I think it would've been hard to jump into it and remember what idea you had for your character for it. Right now everybody was at the house except for Yuin (ol'fighter) Dean (obviously) and I believe that's it. Gabe is not a "god mod" character and his powers are incredibly limited which you'll all find out about soon enough. Welcome back to the Band everybody, and let's make this go best it can be. I'm sending out PM's to everybody and if I don't hear from you within a week we'll move along without you (no offense but that's what happened during our last run at it.) -
RPG Band of the Blood Moon 2: Sins of the Father
Drizzt Do'urden replied to Drizzt Do'urden's topic in Theater
Dean had been left alone to watch in horror as the wall of the house exploded. He was not given the luxury of seeing the scene inside, but he noticed the familiarity of the man cast out into the street at once. "Draco? So that's what he looks like shaved." Dean tried chuckling at his own joke, but it seemed so much more like something Dawner or Karyn would say that he instead choked back tears of sadness. --------------------------------------------------------- Gabriel stood on the roof of the building next to the one that housed the team. He saw Draco get cast aside, but wouldn't offer assistance as of yet. He was actually better off. He watched as the battle ensued, it seemed the team grew stronger but their knowledge of demons was too limited. He'd kept a bead on Penbrookes energy signature, the man wouldn't like Gabriels presence and he was the one the team would trust. Gabe let his sythes unfold and drop from his sleeve, another explosion rocked the house and it began rocking on its foundatoin. Too many more would collapse the house and likely kill at least one, and Calil was still inside. Throwing his hands forward the sythes lept from his grasp and flew towards the demon. As they neared their target they split apart, each coming around the demons neck in a silent, deadly dance. As the scythes created individual half circles around the demon's neck Gabe brought this hands back, summoning the scythes back to this grasp. As he did, the weapons sprung back catching the demons neck and almost instantly severing his head. The quickly muffled scream sounded like water escaping a burning log. As the chains repositioned themself Gabe leaped from the building, landing infront of a surprised team. He didn't smile, though he found their smoke blackened features quite amusing. "Gather your things and meet me at one hour in the inn, its unlikely our enemy will strike in a public spot. For the hour is still young, and her strength not yet revealed upon the world." Gabe didn't wait for another word, though a second glance at Calil to confirm she would be the one to break the seal and free Dean Remington, before leaping into the shadows and disappearing from sight. ***Check the backstage for a recap incase you haven't already. -

U.S. Entry ban for HIV to be lifted.
Drizzt Do'urden replied to Rachmaninoff's topic in General Discussion
I'm not totally sure how I feel about this yet, and in such I hate to comment on it at all. On one hand I feel like its good since most people inflicted with HIV didn't get it from a promiscuous life, or from sharing needles like a drug addict. Many are born with it, and in such a case they shouldn't be punished. On the otherhand I feel as if the U.S. had a right, and a good reason for it. It wasn't as if they were banning people based on ethnicity, religion, or any other choice somebody makes. In reality HIV is spread (of course not as easily) as something as bad as H1N1. That side of me thinks the ban WAS justified. lol that brings up a final pro lifting the ban point, like Wolfie said the ban being lifted COULD prompt more money and research to finding a cure, I feel as if HIV has become a little pushed back into background. I'm sure research is still being done, but not at the level that it should be. -
same reason some dudes have a thing for nuns, I guess.
Can't say I know alot of guys that do... but I agree with the rest of the statement. I've adjusted to the fact that most of my engineering brethren are a bit...awkward to say the least. There's this one guy that struck me as weird the first time I talked to him, I've avoided him becasue well...he makes typical engineers seem like the most socially adjusted people on the planet. Well this time he finally sprung through the ranks as one of the oddest people I've ever met. There were ten of us in our engineering mathematics course standing outside waiting for our instructor to let us in. One of the nursing program students went walking by, and somehow he got it in his head that it was a good idea to bust out a "pickup line"...Well he walked up next to one of the girls and went old school. "Mam (yes he called an 18 year old nursing student maam) do I know you?" God bless him he continued following her down the hallway even after she told him to leave her alone. Now you're wondering what is weird about that, well when he wandered back to our group we joked with him about crashing and burning. He proceeded to tell us he'd been following her for a week now and finally had to talk to her (he explained how he REALLY meant followed and would pursue her down the hallway.) Well when somebody told him his..."methods" were "stalkerish" he proceeded to agree and say it was the only way he could ever get a girl. He'd follow them for weeks at a time and try and figure out what they like and what kind've person they are (and yes where they lived) and would create a conversation in his mind that would encompass all this.
Really? I love typewriters. I don't have one at my apartment right now, but next time I visit my parents, I think I'm going to try and bring one back with me. I love writing letters on typewriters.
It's not so much the fact that its a type writer, I just had trouble coping with the fact I had to retype my paper multiple times (I used to have one when I was younger that was digital and you could type a whole line, read it to ensure there were no errors and then hit enter. It would then type what you wrote to prevent that).

Well I can't say that old fashioned mayonaise is something i'm ready for, but one thing I found out about my ex is that canning your own food, instead of mass produced pumped up on pesticides type food, tastes so much better then anything. Also, they raised and butchered there own chickens (Yes they were backwoods types, see Squalls post in the Weirdos thread for other backwoods type characteristics), and I have to say that dinner at their house was always a treat in itself. On a side note I tried typing on a manual computer the otherday (typewritter) and I got so aggrevated I tossed the piece of junk out the window....literally (it was a first story so no harm done)
-
Anyway, I've got to say I've met more weirdos in the past 7 months (since joining the Navy) than I have in my entire life.
And that surprised you how?
-
Hey bugs taught us the most important lesson, if you're being hunted don't worry. Bullets never really hit their target, though a scary thought is that shotguns shoot an amazing amount of bullets without ever pumping them.

This is the backstage where any questions you may ask will be answered. The first questions is this is REAL 1410 so guns are all single shot and take forever to load. Bows and Crossbows are still the main long range combat, however cannons have replaced more catapults and trebujes.

This will be a different type of RP, focus will be taken away from combat (though there will be plenty) and instead the focus will lie on good storytelling. Lincoln arrose to the sounds of cannonfire in the distance. Apparently the King of England was not apt to sitting idly by even a single night without death. The fighting had been raging on for nearly a year with neither side gaining much ground, both sides losing more then they bargained for when taking on this hopeless war. Taking a pen, Lincoln began writing his latest journal entry. "15 of September 1410" As you see, I no longer write "year of our lord" for I cannot abide any god willing to so throw away the lives of thousands of good souls bound for heaven, sworn to protect their countrymen. The King of England has set his sites again on taking back the fields of Croughton, this time he has launched a night offensive. Though the fields are miles away, and there's no possibility our commander will allow us to join our brethren. We're protecting much more important cargo, myself in particular has been given the task of protecting the King and her royal highness the Princess on our caravan of peace with England. It makes me sick to sit idly by while the princess is going to be given to the King for marriage, I know with this offering peace will be restored to our lands. I just don't understand why we're to be the ones giving OUR princess, her beauty and grace are far above that barbarian of a king. Besides, it is us that has taken English soil, not the otherway around. We are the ones in control of the war, the King of England should be groveling at our feet, begging for the kind hand of peace to be shown to him. Orders are orders however, and I have no choice but to obey with my life. This will be my only entry today, I know it is still the early morning hours and today will be full of events I am sure. But today is the day we are to board the boat that will take us around this fighting, and away from greedy barbarian English troops. Lincoln Delroe" As I stated before, this will be a different type of RP. There will be set battles I will have prepared in advanced. For a tad of an insight there will be at least one battle at sea, multiple open combat (as being caught up in real battle battles) and up close and personal combat such as within castle walls or other close quarters. There will be a couple stipulations on characters, there are a few I absolutely have to have before we can get started since we cannot run the RP without them. There personalities, looks and names will be yours, and they will all be trained in basic combat so you don't have to be afraid of taking on a role and getting caught up in a battle. 1) The Princess of Spain: With her father growing severly ill, the princess has been put through grouling courses of leadership, and tact in preperation of possibly taking the crown. Her beauty and grace have been told in things of stories, and many prince and king from across the globe has tried to obtain her hand. She is to be promised to the King of England's son as a wedding present to end the war. 2) The King of England: The older King (40-60) has been striving for power, some think it due to an illness and he wants a large kingdom for his son. Others think he has gone mad, still others think his reasons for war are his own. Either way he is an expert tactician, and devilishly cunning. None understand his reasons for wanting the princess for his son, but none question him. 3) The Prince of England: The oldest son(18-25) and crowned prince of England, the prince has made his father proud. He excels at military tactics, leadership, ancient history, combat, and everything else to make him a king. Nobody truely knows if he wants the princess' hand or if it is all his father's duties. If the marriage goes through, then the Prince will become King of a united land, if not then he will one day take up the battle. 4) England's Assassin: A black cloaked man said to be the greatest killer in England's arsenal. He has been given a task by the king of England himself, and none, besides the King, know of what hell he is to bring. There is only one to match him in combat, only one to stop him. 5) Spainish Assassin: A red cloaked man said to be the greatest killer in Spain's arsenal. He has been given a task by the King of Spain himself and none, besides the King, know what hell he is to bring. There is only one to match him in combat, only one to stop him. I will be allowing people to play roles such as English or Spainish Soldiers, but I'd like to get these filled first. I am willing to change the King of England to Queen if a lady wishes to play that role. The assassins are unisex so its up to the person who auditions. The Assassins are incredibly important and will receive their assignments from the Kings (well from me I suppose). The reason the King of Spain isn't an option is going to become apparent early on as he will quickly become less of a focus as the main story will revolve around the characters I have mentioned and mine. I'm going to be keeping a journal with every post of mine, the journal will be a sort've...summary for anybody who goes missing for a few days and loses track, or for any lull we have in the RP. Its not a replacement for reading the RP to catch up, that is still a must but it will allieviate some pressure. I'll use my story as a typical sign-up, I'm not going to take everyone who signs up so I do encourage competition. If you are not selected for a role I will tell you so you can adjust for another. The sun was low as Lincoln starred across the fields of Croughton at the British garrison sent to retake the fields. He cringed when he saw the faces, how young these troops were. The King had sent a group of inexperienced, ragtag men to use as cannon fodder. The shear cruelness of this manuever sent chills down Lincoln's spine. The battle had been short lived, and soon the English were routed. As Lincoln's scouts went on Patrol, he retired to his tent. Entering he fell to his knee as the King of Spain was standing in Lincoln's quarters. "Rise Captain Delroe, I come to you on a matter most important." The King explained the marriage, and the need for secrecy. "I understand my liege, what is it you ask of me?" Lincoln stood in a position of respect, he'd followed the good King through many of battles and though he knew it wasn't neccesary he couldn't bring himself to give anything but the upmost respect. "I need you and 20 of your men to escort us by sea and throughout the meeting with England. I ask that you keep the matter secret from even your men, please find something to tell them that won't make them suspicious. We depart early tomorrow morning for the port of Thorus in the east." Without another word the King left to a once again kneeling Lincoln. "A special mission eh? It appears this captian is ready for another promotion." Lincoln smiled, at least he tried when he thought of losing the Princess to England...England, the country that would soon be the one he must bow too.

Discuss Band of the Blood Moon (Backstage)
Drizzt Do'urden replied to Drizzt Do'urden's topic in Theater
Advertising Wolfie? How dare ye! No I'm completly kidding, I'm going to post in the next day with Band and see what we can get rolling, this will be a last ditch effort however, I'd hate to see this die, it truley pains me. On the otherhand the first ended so well and had the perfect elements of team cooperation, so the vision for it was achieved. -
I decided to finally breakdown and watch the movie, and actually I'm pleased it did. Of course I was prepared by, just as Swedish Chef was, a friend who'd seen it and said to just forget all your DB world knowledge. I must say I was able to do this, and in retrospect its what saved the movie for me. Though it was hard to forget that Goku should've been about 3 feet shorter and stalkier, he should've been much more naieve about the world, and countless other flaws. The same falls for ChiChi, and the rest of the crew (expecially Ozaru). I must say though, that from a completly outside perspective the movie fell into the category of cheap martial arts/special affects that so many fall into nowadays. While I'll never own it, or anything else the movie did have redeaming qualities that keep it far above the worst alltime movie I've ever seen. It sits somewhere with Mortal Kombat 2 and Street Fighter (Both the original and the Legend of chung Lei)

Name: Jason Donaldson Mutant Name: Vortex Age: 22 Sex: Male Mutant Ability: Vortex is able to bend space to his will and create wormholes from one place to another. His powers are incredibly limited at the moment since he didn't discover them until only recentally. He can create multiple small ones of close proximity, or a large one accomidating one or two people or a single vehicle (about the size of a van). These large ones are incredibly taxing and can only be used over a short time, the distance varies but Vortex has been able to transport himself upwards of a mile at one time. Bio: Jason Donaldson was born into normality to one of the few remaining human families. His father had spent his life studying and learning about the Herald's strengths and weaknesses. That is until the Herald's men discovered the plot and in doing so had both of Jason's parents killed. This was on his 18th birthday, the day he discovered his powers. That day, Vortex was born into the world of the mutant resistance. He quickly found out there were more like him, but could never full trust another enough to join with them. He's spent the past 4 years continuing his father's work and trying to locate a way to kill the Herald...before humanity and mutantkind alike cease to exist. Short Physical Description: (I'm going to have to finish this tomorrow) Personality: Character Snippet:
No, I'm semi-curious about that myself.
Just based on an average is the obvious answer. More fun answer would be it would be deliciously abnormal to try and figure out which half of the third child to keep. Upper, lower, left, right, front, back? And Chibi when I say Normality I'm saying what you consider not weird. Sure I used it in a different spin, pointing out that it used to be "weird" or "abnormal" to not want the suburban lifestyle, when nowadays suburbia is becoming a thing of the past and "weird" or "abnormal" is becoming the norm.
-
Normality has become abnormal in many ways. Nowadays nobody seems to want 2.5 children and a house with a white picket fence (well I do, but not very many do). Its just the way of the world, and I have to say Taperson if you don't expect a full 80% of the people you meet on the inernet to be similar to your new friend then you haven't seen very many teenage comedies (computer nerds always live in their parents basement...or have awesome rooms with crazy tech gadgets.)

Discuss Band of the Blood Moon (Backstage)
Drizzt Do'urden replied to Drizzt Do'urden's topic in Theater
I haven't seen KG, Inu, or Excel on in awhile. Right now its kind've a lull in the boards so I've been waiting till activity picks up to jump back into it. I'm hoping everybody will still be interestd -
Being in the Air Force, the character sign-up I used appealed a bit more to me. If you want me to switch it up to a soldier who was part of the initial ambush instead of what I choose I'll be more then happy to Wolfie. I'm really hyped up about this by the way... Sorry my snipet is long, I figured since I was crossing forces I should explain a little more. I didn't put anything about how many of my men don't make it incase this takes off and WOlfie is okay with somebody else taking this route. Name: Trevor "Trey" Tusing Gender: Male Age: 25 Rank: Staff Sergeant (United States Air Force) Profession: Pararescue team lead/rifleman Bio: Trey enlisted straight out of high school on the coaxing of his father, who was a Ranger and spent many years in Iraq. He choose Pararescue as soon as he discovered the career field. Trey excelled and, combined with the short life expectancy of Pararescuemen, quickly rose to be in charge of his own team. Snippet: Trey took a deap breath as the doors to the C-130 transport plane flew open. He smiled a bit, he never pretended to hate the job. Of course he hated to see any fellow servicemen die, but at the sametime deaths, MIAs and POWs are what keep the job necessary. "Sergeant Tusin g, we have confirmation of a launch. Several short range Anti-tank missiles are inbound mustang. HQ has advised we sit tight until we have confirmed hit." Trey stood and faced his troops, newbies everyone of them. Only one man had survived more then two jumps with Trey. It wasn't ineptatude that kept Trey short in men, imporperly packed shutes, inability to follow orders, those were all the things that killed his men...at least that's what Trey told himself at night he hid the real reason from all. The simple fact that the "package" was the most important thing to Trey, he and his men choose the career field they were in for the very same reason though none were allowed to speak the taboo. "Up and at umm boys we're gonna go now. That way we have the cover of the explosions to shield our landing." As Trey spoke the doors slammed shut and the pilots voice sounded over the intercomm. "Trey, I had them install this the last time you jumped by yourself because you had a feeling. We're going to wait until HQ gives us the okay before letting you go." Always being one to follow orders, the Captains words silenced Trey. He was right, hopefully he'd be able to sleep with the deaths he was about to allow. Minutes passed before the doors flew open and the green light was given. The wind had been taken out of Trey's sails. Without a word he led his men out the door, pulled his shoot and silently said a prayer. After the missiles hit the ambush only lasted a few moments. So by the time Trey and his troops neared the ground the enemy took aim and began taking pop shots at the helpless airmen. Quicker then Trey could count he started hearing the screams, the cries for help, the cries for mothers and to gods that weren't answering. Bullets wizzed by Trey, he didn't flinch. He sat there silently waiting on death, knowing he would once again be a sole survivor. Landing in the middle of the blasted tanks Trey undid his parachute as he rolled to his feet. He saw what remained of the rag tag group and rushed to the obvious officer laying on the ground, possibly already dead.

I'm a big fan of greek and roman mythology, though I wish I was more knowledgable on the subject. I'm sure I miss alot due to the fact that I don't know anything about other mythologies (well a big of nordic as well I suppose). I like games with undertones of mythological things in them. Games like God of War and Age of Mythologies are all well in good, but they wear quickly. I'd rather play a game and have to find the "hidden meaning" the designer was going for.

No texting @ dinner! Parenting digital kids
Drizzt Do'urden replied to Rachmaninoff's topic in General Discussion
Well I'm happy to hear at least a few parents are stepping to the plate and making changes. I didn't really get into texting until a couple years ago when I got a phone with a nifty keyboard layed out like a computer keyboard. Now I probably do text more then I call. I couldn't imagine texting during family outings or get togethers, but of course when I think back to being a teenager I would've rather talked to my friends then been around my family (its just kids being kids I suppose). I do have to say, and I'm glad the article mentioned it...in a way, I love that kids think they get away with texting at the dinner table or when they're out. It actually makes me laugh out loud to see kids "hiding" their phones and thinking they're being coy. I actually make it a point to ruin their fun by leaning towards them (or pausing if I walk by) and "whispering" at the top of my lungs "no no no It's S-e-x not s-e-c-s" -
Also I thought the only way people "lost weight" was if someone cut them open and took out their fat.
With our fat lazy society that is quickly becoming a reality... I thought that my fievel doll was alive because it moved from the floor to my bed...turned out it was only my parents (sad realization). I thought that the animals from Milo and Otis were trained to talk. I wouldn't eat my vegetables, not because they were gross, but because if I was what I ate I wanted to become a cow before an inatimate stalk of celery. The worst was I actually believed if you put your mind to it you could be whatever you wanted to be.

I have to agree with Gavin that is was a nice little publicity stunt (I do sort've wonder how much disney paid to get NASA to take Buzz up and make a deal out of it.) I'm sort've surprised that they didn't take it farther and have a whole "time capsule" filled with Buzz merchandise jetisoned from the space shuttle. (Though that probably would've crossed the line into "hammy" eh?)

Hey I want to thank everybody for the advice and the congrats. I've saved it for...future reference. We found out yesterday after a trip to the ER that my girlfriend miscarried.

I'm thinking maybe a couple months if the posts are pretty consistent. I'd like to get this started next week sometime, so I'll probably get it rolling as soon as we have 4-5 people. Name: Age: Sex: Appearance: (Feel free to be as creative as you want, its no telling what the ambrosia will do to a person.) Weapons: Though the gods destroyed everthing, mankind has triumphed. Different tribes have been able to come up with some weapons such as guns, small explosives. Feel free to melee it up or go for distance, just try and keep it one or the other. If you are a marksman you probably won't be real good with close combat and vice versa. Powers: The powers of the gods are sort've construde throughout mythology, of course there are the norms (Zeus' lightning, Hades power over the undead) so feel free to deviate, but remember we are not gods. All of us will have super-human strength and speed so don't bother with that, but otherwise everythings games. Personality: Bio: (How'd you get selected, what'd you do before you were picked) Writing Snipet: Let us get inside your characters head, let us see his/her personality and demeanor with this. Doesn't have to be combat, infact I prefer it not be.

He can also channel holy energy through his spear and shield. Personality- A very protective, caring individual who prides his sense of humor above anything else...though his peers don't always agree. Background- O'ryan was born and raised for one single purpose, protecting the gates of heaven. He quickly rose the ranks and took control of the Arch Angel position in just over a centure, nearly three hundred years faster then the next. When the humans developed the technology to break the gates he was instructed to take on the role of one of the human officers during the raid. After years of working his way up the ladder O'ryan has been trusted with control over many of the demon slaves. Though he hasn't been given orders, he's heard the whispers of a possible union. Though he holds the natural resentment towards demons like his breathren do, he still hopes a union will allow the humans to be put back in their place. Character Snippet- "Captain Jones, we have a large number of new slaves to add. Please open the gates so we may bring the prisoners inside." This was the day Gabriel had been waiting for, this prison transfer housed a few...special prisoners his real bosses had been looking out for. Everything was going to plan, in a few days the ones on the inside would be on the outside. "Ehem, Captian might I have a word." The voice of General Brahm snapped Gabriel out of his trance. The General was a nice trusting man, but with the knowledge of the real powers some of these demons possessed, the man had become more suspicious as of late. "General, to what do I owe the pleasure?" Gabriel had mastered the humans rank structure, it was very similar to what he did in heaven. "Captain with the infimacy of some of these prisoners I'm taking possession of the key to their colars. Please don't take it as I don't trust you, you've proved yourself more then once." The thought of the breathren he'd slain, along with the demons who'd done no wrong...at that point...made Gabriel phsycially cringe. "As of this moment you are releived of duty, please report to the wasteland for immediate reassignment." Gabriel played the part right, though he could feel himself slipping. He could probably surprise and kill the general, take his key back and free at least a couple prisoners before being cut down. "Gabriel, you should turn your heat up. I can see my breath." This snapped Gabe out of his trance and brought him back to earth. As the General excused himself Gabriel turned to his window...or rather his old window, and looked out to the main floor where the new prisoners were being inprocessed. "Looks like we're going to have to do this the hard way sir." Gabriel grabbed for his necklace. His small cross necklace he could never wear, at least not until the rebellion truely began.
