I'm just glad we can tell people they're wrong about genre's without clashing into a neverending battle! But I have to admit, screamo or not, the old BFMV wasn't that good, and the new stuff is better. But still the 'scene' kids still prolly think they're real metal >_> As for BFMV not being metalcore, still whether right or wrong, I don't think they could care less. As for Circle Takes the Square... omg orgazm! Kill the Switch is just... the best. But grind sounds or not, they are still screamo at it's finest. Converge is the ****, they are more grindy than CTTS by far. No More Heroes is my favorite song by them. Another awesome screamo band is Our Last Night, the frontman is only 14 years old and he is amazing for his age imo, they don't have much pizazz, but they do have valuable assets. However I haven't listened to them in a while so I forgot, anyways, yeah the lead singer is 14 and everyone else is over 18 lol... but check them out... if you can.
Well yeah, it is good to not clash over genres... But man. We just went over this. Our Last Night is pretty much just like any pop post-hardcore band. This is not screamo lol... Like you guys are understanding that CTTS has grind influence. YES. That is screamo... Not so much Thrash. Thrash is Kill 'Em All by Metallica. That, is thrash. But screamo, well its something different than the usual post-hardcore wannabes. It has to have that chaoticness, without the pop to be a screamo band... However, I will say I was impressed by OLN's singer/screamer, though I hate his clean vox, his screams are pretty sweet, though you can hear the obvious 15 year old in his voice... Great label for them to get signed to as well, though I'm starting to get disappointed by Epitaph... for switching from strange punk spin offs to metalcore... Zen, my friend... those clean vocals are everywhere in metalcore. Most metalcore bands carry on the whiny pop vocals, because it is a trend. None the less, listen to "Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord", this album was more raw. Before pop vocals had grown so trendy in metalcore, I suppose. Speaking of trendy metalcore... I've been listening to As I Lay Dying a little bit... After hanging with my friend Oran last night (drummer for my old band) and jamming, I started playing "Through Struggle" since he could play it on drums... I believe we might practice this song more.. AILD is a good metalcore band, though it seems they try too hard to appeal to scene kids... They also, should work on... individuality. Their songs all sound, well.. Extremely similar. Nonetheless, I enjoy the music. p.s- No, boothten. I won't admit Bullet for my Valentine was EVER screamo... Sigh. I'm not trying to get into an argument, but you have to learn that the bands I listed where screamo. That is fact, and can be looked up in a major information provider. So, since you've already heard CTTS. Listen to Saetia, and pg. 99, maybe even Orchid, Gospel, or I Would Set Myself on Fire for you. Somebody should, to hear the real difference between mis-labeled bands like Chiodos, Alesana, Bullet for My Valentine, and all the scene bands... >_< For once, I wish face was here, because this subject is easily agreed with between him and I.

Haha, you yourself may be in a mix up with genres... Bands like Bullet For My Valentine in no way deserve to be called Screamo, lol. If no one here has heard a real emo/screamo band, I suggest you do. I'm sure you've all heard Rick and I talk about "Circle Takes the Square"... This is screamo at its finest, following in the footsteps of pg. 99, Orchid, Saetia, City of Caterpillars, Rites of Spring, and so many more... and paving the way for new screamo bands that have started using prog and art in their music, like Gospel and I Would Set Myself on Fire For You. If anything, listen to CTTS and pg. 99 to see just how extreme this music is. Other than screamo itself, you can tell that alot of new post-hardcore bands have taken a big influence from the genre. The Blood Brothers, Fear Before the March of Flames... A whole new genre, came straight from screamo, as well, mixed with metalcore and mathematical time signatures. That's right. Mathcore. Dillinger Escape Plan, As The Sun Sets, The Number 12 Looks Like You, Converge, Genghis Tron. Not to mention, noise rock. Some Girls, Japanther, The Locust, Test Icicles... whoo. So if anything. Listen to real screamo, and see the real difference between "Bullet for my Valentine" and the chaotic rawness, that is the emo/screamo genre. This of course, would be a recommendation. Calling metalcore bands "screamo" is a common mistake, so no harm done. www.myspace.com/circletakesthesquare www.myspace.com/saetia www.myspace.com/pg99 Though, you could probably find more songs on last fm. p.s- if BMTH changes their sound too much, it will be the worst mistake they've made.. Maybe they don't understand how mainstream they are in the U.S right now...
Right now I'm listening to The Autumn Offering, these guys are amazing. I guess I should throw out a quick list of the bands I really enjoy. As I Lay Dying* Atreyu The Autumn Offering Avenged Sevenfold (first 2 albums) Between the Buried and Me With Blood Comes Cleansing Bullet for my Valentine (New stuff) Circle Takes the Square In Flames Heaven Shall Burn A Plea for Purging All Shall Perish The Used Bold font means I own a CD from them. I'm sure there is more, I don't know if Nu Metal could be considered Hardcore in a way, so if so I'll add them later. Anyways, onto the recommendations, for people who enjoy technicality and plenty of tasteful breakdowns, than Between The Buried and Me is perfect for you, they have some pretty kick *** songs, Colors is an EPIC album, especially White walls, over 14 minutes of hardcore awesomeness. Alaska is another good album, with stand out songs like Selkies: The Endless Obsession, Backward marathon and The Primer. Backward Marathon has a very soft interlude, which is the music's epic climax. With Blood Comes Cleansing, Heaven Shall Burn and All Shall Perish are also really good, probably the heaviest on the list. The Used is for people who are a bit novice to the genre, but I like them, especially The Bird and the Worm. A Plea for Purging is a bit odd, and they are Christian metalcore of the like with xDEATHSTARx and stuff like that. As I Lay Dying is meh, but they have good things about them, the lead singer has a great voice. Bullet for my Valentine is A LOT better than they ever were, in fact they have improved on what The Poison failed at, which was almost everything lol. Circle Takes the Square is however, the best group on that list, well 2nd best imo, but they are still wicked good. In Flames is awesome too, but they are close to death metal a bit. But not as much as their earlier albums. Atreyu's new material isn't like their old stuff, if you've heard The Crimson and Falling Down, you can tell. I don't really think they are one of the best, but they satisfy enough. As for A7X, they have some pretty good stuff, but I wish they'd return to the style of Waking the Fallen, cause I know they could improve that and make it their own. EDIT: The Autumn Offering is also a very excellant band, they are signed to the same record company (Victory Records) as Between the Buried and Me, Atreyu, Darkest Hour and sadly Hawthorne Heights, so they aren't hard to find, but they are great, the songs may be a bit small (on average about 3:30) though. Currently I own "Fear Casts no Shadow, but they also have Embrace the Gutter. To check out their awesomeness, I suggest you find the song Silence and Goodbyes, which isn't all screaming, but it still captures how great they are. The vocalist's screams are a bit death-metally, which isn't bad at all. EDIT 2: With Blood Comes Cleansing is also signed to Victory Records... imagine that.
You should pick up Silent Circus by Between the Buried and Me. That album has so much epic in it.. It's unbelievable. The album is more like a work of art. So much rage, and confusion mixed into the brutality of the songs, and then every thing comes crashing down with the beautiful soft parts. Epic, indeed. Plus, the CD has a special edition counterpart, which I recommend greatly, because the band is AMAZING live. And it has an interview, and music videos as well. So yeah... Get your hands on this album, my friend. Imagine Alaska. With the same vocals. Awesome clean breakoffs. And Amazing distorted breakdowns. Atreyu blows. Enough said. Good job, Atreyu. You really "sunk your ship" with Lead Sails Paper Anchor. edit: Is A Plea for Purging signed yet? I remember them... I think they grew up from around here, because for a while, they were all I heard about down here.
That's subjective no?
Ah, well, he did put them in his list of extreme musicians... And I was just pointing it out... lol
Hardcore Punk, which uses excessive speed in both drums and guitar playing along with scream and growl vocals. Notable bands for me are The Devil Wears Prada, Gallows, and Circle Jerks.
...TDWP is metalcore... But yeah. TDWP is definitely a good one. Though, their newer album isn't one of my favorites. "Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord" remains one of my top favorite albums. It's similiar to that of Underoath's "Changing of Times". Both are amazing albums, full of emotion, and brutality, without having a crapload of chugga. Though I'd have to say... bands like Senses Fail and Rise Against aren't extreme at all. Mainstream musicians don't have much hope for being "extreme" ever in their life time. Maybe something from "Let It Enfold You" by Senses Fail, but that album is still one big pop album. Of course, you get the harsh songs like "The Irony of Dying On Your Birthday" that have an edge to them that you normally don't see on these kind of albums. But so far.. no extremity. Honestly, I have no love affair for the blah metalcore bands of today. Clean vocals are okay. But a drowning of pop choruses is not. Bands like Underoath and TDWP can get away with a few clean vocals, because of their originality. But others cannot. The real extremities of "metalcore" rely on the bands that don't use these pop choruses. Figure Four xDEATHSTARx MyChildrenMyBride The Black Noise Party Boys Don the Reader Norma Jean Chariot Listen to these bands, and you'll understand what metalcore should be. :] Figure Four is definitely one of those bands that takes a hold of hardcore by the neck and gives it a new meaning with their metalcore sound. It doesn't get much heavier them. All of these bands, by the way, are Christian influenced besides Don the Reader. Most of what I call extreme lies in the genres that scene kids don't listen to. Screamo, for instance. It's easily agreed that bands like Circle Takes the Square and pg. 99 are anything but mainstream. Wonderful, though. You should listen to them, pg. 99 especially if you like hardcore punk. Now, I'm done. I get so delighted when someone mentions something to do with extreme music, because I listen to all of it... So, I guess I always have an input on the subject.. p.s- if you're into extreme music, and what something a little strange, but still... extreme... Listen to my band. Click on the link in my sig, lol. We play post-hardcore without all the pop, and have a heavy influence from prog and screamo.

Your bass sounds like a real beauty. I'll have to play one of those, next time I make a trip to a Guitar Center. As for me, I play quite a few. My instrument of choice, is of course, my Ibanez RG, which for the most part, is a cheap guitar. But, it roars, when I play it, especially now, that I've put new strings on it, after a year. The humbucker pickups in the guitar sound amazing running through my Marshall 100 Watt amp. Before I got my Marshall, I played through a Fender Deville 100 Watt amp, with a Boss ME- 50 pedalboard. I also play a Fender Telecaster, with an Egnater Half- Stack. Others that happen to be laying around, is a beauty of sorts. A golden painted old school Fender Strat. Sigh. Nothing beats the oldies. Also, an old Charvel Charvette semi-hollow body with a Dean Markley pick up in it... Other than Electric Guitars, I play a Breedlove Acoustic guitar, which really fits for any purpose. Classical, strumming, everything. The guitar sounds beautiful, and looks great as well, for its hard for me to look at most acoustic guitars and go "wooooww". Onto my bass. The only bass I own. Peavey Axceleator. Beautiful baby blue glammer, and a good sound. The tone is a little dead right now, because the battery is dead, but it still sounds good. I'll just have to put in a new battery. The ongoing list.... I recently bought a CASIO WK-3300 Keyboard. I love it. For $300, it has amazing effects, and a buttload of tones, for both piano, and even more for organ, as well as drum effects. It's almost a full-size piano, but it only has 76 keys, instead of 88. I can record what I'm playing as well, onto the step coordinator, for future preferences. Good buy. Before I started playing guitar or keys, I was playing drums. Been using the same kit ever since. Roland V-Drums with a PDP single bass pedal. Yes, I know. Sucks. Electric drums. Crap. Not really, however. These are good, I can play them easily, the PDP pedal is by far the best pedal I've ever played on, seeing as I can do double eights (metalcore stuff that you do on double bass) on single bass. Also, I can line directly into the computer, for recording. I can change what the drums sound like, from acoustic, to hip hop, to alien percussion. :] Very nice. Though, I do wish I owned an acoustic set as well. To end this all, I use a MXL 990 studio mic. That's pretty much it. So, yeah, those are all my instruments... Well, actually, I do have more, that I failed to mention. But I'd rather not mention every harmonica, and acoustic guitar... not to mention the mandolin I have mounted on the wall. Eek. :]

Interesting. Starting Out and Stuff As far back as I can remember, my dad played shows, and I went to them. I'd get on stage and help him do "YMCA" and "Mustang Sally" and other such classic rock songs. I can remember being with my friends at recess and pretending to be in a "rock" band. At an early age but later than that of course, I was listening to bands like Staind, Evanescence, Slipknot, Breaking Benjamin, Linkin Park, and later on, I fell in love with Hawthorne Heights. Upon hearing some of these edgier bands, I went on to try and find music even edgier. Anything that screamed for example, but at the time, I had no taste for metalcore or death metal, because it was TOO heavy, lol. I failed to mention that I was almost named after Stevie Ray Vaughan... that may have had something to do with my musical tastes, lol. The Forming Of: I think this is where it really starts out, to forming what I am today. At this time, I was listening to several bands. AFI, My Chemical Romance, Billy Talent, From First to Last, etc. etc. And with buying both Billy Talent albums, I decided to buy an Underoath CD. At first, I didn't like it so much, but by the end of the night... I was listening to it over and over. This would be my first encounter, with metalcore. By then, I started listening to As I Lay Dying, and other metalcore bands. Of course, the post-hardcore bands never went away for me, in fact, I still enjoy their music today. :] Underoath, most definitely has stuck with me for years. The Almost There: I started talking to Kevin, which later started turning douchey. But I'd have to say, he opened alot of new doors for me. I started listening to The Number 12 Looks Like You, after finding them on an Eyeball sampler disc. I remembered Kev had mentioned them, so I was like "..Eh. Okay." and... what can I say? My taste had changed, and I knew that this was my new favorite. The oddness to it.. The everything. The Number 12 is what made me want to play guitar, and drums, and everything really. I acquired a taste for tempo changes, dual vocals, odd time signatures, and of course, Jazz. If you know me, by now... You'd know that the Number 12 is still my favorite band, and will probably remain that way for a while. Also, Kevin cleared it up for me that "emo" was NOT bands like MCR or FOB... No.. But I would surely find out. Mid Era thing Went to my first hardcore show with Strike the Choir, Kaiden and an indie rock band named Life in Rescue. All three blew me away. STC remains in my top three, and Kaiden, in my top twenty. I'm also good friends with some of the guys from all of the bands, so I guess that makes them even cooler. This would strike my love for concerts. My favorite places to be. Hardcore Era I started listening to Hardcore Punk. I love bands like Black Flag, The Misfits, SSD, Die Kreuzen, and Bad Brains. This was something new to me. Kevin, too, liked that kind of stuff. This evolved into better post-hardcore acts. Kevin got me into a few screamo/emo bands, and from there, I was set. I looked up every band I could find in the genre, ordered CDs left and right... I loved it. A new kind of hardcore, emotional... not poppy... odd time sigs... even jazzy... wow. Saetia, Circle Takes the Square, Gospel, pg. 99, I Would Set Myself On Fire For You, Envy, Hiretzuken, Shikari, all kinds of bands. I was getting into bands like Fear Before the March of Flames, and Heavy Heavy Low Low as well, though those really don't have much to do with screamo/emo. But they did have odd time signatures, and were different. So, why not mention them? The End After that, I got into Deathcore. But that wasn't so much of a revelation lol. That kind of just happened. So, here is a list, of a few that I think deserve a good note, that I'm still in love with today, that have a place on my long list of favorites. These musicians, would be my TOP favorites, that I can't live without. You can see, my musical taste spans alot of genres. Strike the Choir The Number 12 Looks Like You Enter Shikari Heavy Heavy Low Low pmtoday Kaiden The Jonbenet Saetia Circle Takes the Square I Would Set Myself On Fire For You The New Season I Set My Friends on Fire pg. 99 Fear Before the March of Flames HORSE the Band As Cities Burn Underoath This Love These Hands The Black Noise Party Boys This Is Your Captain Speaking The Blood Brothers The Fall of Troy Gospel The Devil Wears Prada Here I Come Falling Straylight Run From First to Last Aiden Coheed and Cambria Bring Me The Horizon Don the Reader From A Second Story Window Drop Dead, Gorgeous Between the Buried and Me Breathe Carolina
I've no idea how many people actually like this band.. but I recently got the Tokio Hotel CD. I swear they remind so much of a J-Rock band. Anyhoo, I've been listening to that CD mostly. Normally, I listen to Dropping Daylight, Breaking Benjamin, or Evan's Blue a lot.
They remind me of a regular rock band lol... Maybe... the Boys Like Girls of Germany? I liked their old stuff. :] Anyway, right now I'm listening to more I Was the Red Wine of 1955. I can't wait for them to record more stuff... DJ from This is Your Captain Speaking is in the band, if that'll help some of you take some time to listen. Their first song has alot in it... Jazz and blues at the beginning, to add to the progressive element of the band, then a great melodic guitar riff in the middle with all kinds of vocals over it... and then... BAM! A dynamic hardcore part to finish off the rest of the song. It's wonderful, really. I can't get enough.
-
Right now, I'm listening to I Was the Red Wine of 1955, quite possibly the greatest band ever, but that's for you to decide. From what I've heard so far... It's like The Mars Volta busts through the roof and landed on Underoath, after killing off what was left of The Number 12 and Fall of Troy. This band is one to look out for in the future. www.myspace.com/IWTRW1955

"One Body Too Many", "Decimate the Weak" and "Angels of Debauchery" are my favorites. I like the demo of Angels alot better than the newer version though, but its still pretty sweet. I like the studio stuff alot too, because they added synth to their sound.. I was waiting for this album a while, after I heard a demo on a Century Sampler. Huh... well I guess this song I have called "Here, Take This Pill" must be by a different band... It sounds just like The Number 12, only... crappy. Honestly, there isn't one band that can take down The Number 12 Looks Like You, when it comes to the odd time signatures, dual guitars, and high pitched screaming. The only band that would have a chance would be Dillinger Escape Plan, but they don't have a lick of deathcore in them, so there really isn't any competition for The Number 12. But that's just my opinion.
Boothten is only slightly more on target about the differences between deathgrind and deathcore than you are Whoa, Mann. ...Actually, no. Just wrong in a different way. Ah, hell with it, let me try to expound without sounding like a jerk: Deathgrind is much older than deathcore. It goes back to early Carcass and mid-early Napalm Death. But to say it has no 'core' influence is just as wrong as saying it's the same thing as deathcore. The 'death' in deathgrind comes, obviously, from death metal. The 'grind' would come from grindcore. Grindcore, mind you. Grindcore evolved from crust punk, which evolved from hardcore punk. Hardcore punk, that is. The earliest appearance of the label 'deathcore' came with the formation of Six Feet Under. It was coined by their frontman Chris Barnes (former frontman of Cannibal Corpse) to evoke the idea of death metal being mixed with hardcore punk. However, nowadays the term 'deathcore' evokes a very different image. It is essentially the combination of brutal/technical death metal and early 2000s metalcore. But I'll give you this credit, WM--a lot of modern deathcore bands blur the line by bringing in some grindy elements. But I doubt most of those bands really take much influence from grindcore. I know most of their fans have no love for it when they hear it. As far as "regular" death metal (as though there aren't a million sub-sub-subgenres that any given band can fit into), Amon Amarth and Opeth don't really qualify too well. Amon Amarth is, for the most part melodic death metal. Albeit is a very different, heavier form than standard MDM fare, it is still MDM all the same. Opeth is progressive death metal, on most records. Damnation hardly qualifies as extreme metal at all, though it is good. "Regular" death metal? Morbid Angel, Deicide, Death, Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse, etc. However, I second DK's motion that we all shut up and bow before the might of Pig Destroyer. -Justin **EDIT: While I'm at it, what do you guys think of With Blood Comes Cleansing? I came up in the scene with those guys, and I'd like to know what people's reaction is to them outside of the East Alabama/West Georgia area.
I dare to disagree, that deathcore bands take a lot from grindcore. The pig squeals and fast paced grinding of the double bass and guitar didn't come from just anywhere, I say. With Blood Comes Cleansing.. I havn't heard much of them, because everyone tells me to listen to them. In between commenting on each other's tight jeans, and flipping their hair, that is. This would come off as a major turn off, to see such fans of a band, that I assume that they're mediocre. But, I'll give them a few more tries, since you mentioned. Also, I'd like to mention See You Next Tuesday, though you'd do better just listening to The Number 12 Looks Like You, since SYNT sounds very familiar, almost too much like #12s "Put On Your Rosey Red Glasses". And on the subject of Pig Destroyer. Amazing.
Finished up Halo 3 and switched to Kamelot. I was impressed at the staffing for the Halo 3 soundtrack; twenty-two piece choir and sixty-odd piece orchestra, the leaflet said. Very nice to know, and to hear. I think my favorite out of the whole set has to be the third track on the second disk, during the Gravemind section: One Final Effort. It seems to be the most cohesive and self-contained of all the tracks there, even though I absolutely love the choir chords at, say, the beginning of disc 2 track 10.
Another thing Tom Clancy will never achieve. Well, you completely got me off of Opeth, and you got me on Kansas. So Kansas, yes. :] But Kansas spurred some outburst, and now I'm on The Who instead. In a bit, I'll check out Pearl Jam, because they did a cover of an amazing song by the Who called "Love, Reign O'er Me". You've probably heard it... Final song on their rock opera too. The vocalists definitely have enough gruffness to be called screaming, I'd say. Absolutely, on the Pearl Jam cover. The guy from Pearl Jam has a MASSSSIVVVEEE voice. It gives so much emotion to the songs. And as a strange outburst. I'm switching over to Radiohead. Go Radiohead. Strange, artistic, etc.

My god Laura! This is the only story I've enjoyed reading on OB the past few months. This made me laugh a few times, aha.. Keep those installments coming, please! p.s- Glad I'm in it.
Yea it's the only song I really like from Dope at the moment. And Dragonforce sounds extremely boring to me. Some guy with a stupid voice yelling about stupid topics playing fast guitar with little to no feeling. I could understand if he were talking badly about the vocals why this would make sense. But if he's praising them? Why say that? And I disagree. Vocals are very important in my opinion in genres of music that actually have vocals. If you just gonna get some dipshit who can't sing don't have a signer in your band. Be purely instrumental. [Edit] Bah I didn't read his entire post. I agree with Allamorph still. A lot of bands (not just opeth) sort of throw crap on their flowerpots so to speak with their random screaming.
Haha... maybe you didn't sense all of my sarcasm aimed towards Dragonforce. I understand why you'd say that, and honestly, whether or not the singer is sucky, I prefer music to have vocals. It just kind of helps me through a song. But, I don't listen just for the vocals... One of my friends found this one band hilarious BECAUSE she has no aspect of music, other than vocals. She's one of the scene, I'd say. She gave me their demo, and I liked them... The vocalist was bad, but the band as a whole was good. A little cliche', but good at what they were doing... Blah.. blah... you know. Let's not try and get into any arguments about vocals of all things... Just, tones against vocals only piss me off, you know? Like Enter Shikari. The band is one of my top favorites, but the guy cannot scream worth... pooey. But I love them anyway. I'm listening to The Skies Revolt. This is what comes off as another mainstream sxcore band, but I listened to them for once, and I like them... The vocalist makes use of both guitar and keys, and he's not bad at keys, I must say, and his guitar work is great along side the lead. I havn't gotten any of the band's newer stuff, but they just released a CD and Comic Book package! HOW COOL IS THAT? Also listening to Sky Eats Airplane. Go Sky Eats Airplane. edit: Sorry, Allamorph. You may not understand this from my point of view. I enjoy the screaming over clean guitar, and, either way, the clean guitar is still there, so why should the vocals even matter? I'm not trying to get in a fuss. Overall.... the band is a death metal group yes? Screaming is obviously in the nature, but I will not deny that his clean vocals are excellent, maybe because of his ascent. That, I think we can agree on.

Wait.. is that the song that goes "Theeere's nothing forr meee hereee.... "... Isn't that on Guitar Hero 3? xD Heh... That's definitely one of my least favorites on the game. My most favorite being "Through the Fire and Flames" because its extremely long and fun to play. About Opeth... don't judge them by the vocals so much, Allamorph. I mean... if everyone judged by vocals, then there would officially be no King Diamond fans. Zing! I completely disagree with Dragonforce sounded alike on every song. Like. "Storming the Burning Fields" starts off with that creepy riff, and THEN it goes into the thrashing stuff that you get during the middle of TtFaF. And of course, "Body Breakdown" starts out will a really off time sig, before going into the thrashing stuff, like you'd find in "Storming..." only except... without the creepy riff. "The flame of youth" has alot of tapping in the beginning... you know we don't see any of that in their songs... ...oh.... wait...

Well, just recently, I bought a hand full of CDs from Between the Buried and Me, HORSE the band, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Breathe Carolina, and Here I Come Falling. All good bands. HORSE, DDG, and BC all have one thing in common I was looking for... Great synth. I just bought a keyboard, so I've really been listening to alot of stuff that uses keys alot. Here I Come Falling has a keyboardist too, but he only pops in every now and then. I'm pretty impressed by Between the Buried and Me. Thanks for recommending them, Ricky. I finally picked something up. The Silent Circus is a fast-paced, death filled and technical metalcore album, for fans of The Ocean and From A Second Story Window. Others new bands to my collection are Breathe Carolina and Here I Come Falling. Goodness, these two bands are good. BC is filled with techno, with strange boy band vocals, mixed in with screaming. The whole outlook on their EP Gossip, is good. The only problem, is that some of the songs sound very similar, considering there is no acoustic drums, or guitar. Just synth and electronic drum loops. But this is a good one, for fans of The Medic Droid... and maybe even Metro Station. Here I Come Falling is amazing metalcore from the heart. I read alot of reviews on iTunes that said they sounded exactly like The Devil Wears Prada, and that they were too cliche'. I listened to them, and wow. They're not. They're a metalcore band with deathcore-esque vocals. Death metal vocals mixed with midways exhale screams, breakdowns, a few technical bits here and there, amazing guitar from southern metal to something you might hear from Circa Survive or As Cities Burn. Very emotional music, too. I recommend it to fans of Metalcore, that want something a little fresher without a total new feel. Also, right now I'm listening to Sky Eats Airplane. Nintendocore like that of HORSE, only less chaotic, with more metalcore influence.

Today is my birthday! :] Ah... I don't celebrate so much... I get cash... I spend it. I hang with friends, that's it. Actually my two, what I would call "best friends'" birthdays are also in May. Sweet... and they're both related to me. But I guess that has nothing to do with it... I'm pretty excited. I bought a keyboard with my money... and... Well. I'm happy.
Well pig squeals are the ONLY time I do inhale screams, the rest are exhales. I agree about the inhale growls, they usually sound bad, or like pig squeals, and when I do squeals, thats the only time I do inhales. I guess I'll just keep practicing, and see where I go. If I end up doing the band thing, then I'm probably going to stick with lows and aggressive 'rapping' of sorts until I can attain a proper mid and high.
You could try out rapcore or digicore.... Digicore (digital hardcore, little term some people use...) is pretty much just rap music being played with guys screaming throughout the whole song... Slipknot is like rapcore... and you guys know what that sounds like. Personally, I prefer digicore, or whatever you may call it. Brokensyde and I Set My Friends on Fire are good examples of digicore, even though ISMFOF have only done one rap song, and the others are regular types of post-hardcore.. Brokensyde have dedicated themselves to their chaotic rap stylings. Just try screaming fast, until you can rap like it's nothing when screaming.
Haha, of course it is. As if everyone who starts off is immediately going to sound like Job For A Cowboy or Whitechapel. It takes time, and a lot of it. Your vocal chords have to progress to that point where it's almost like another voice you make. All my vocals are exhales, in my personal opinion any type of inhale vocals don't sound good at all. After a while of listening to inhales, they start to sound TOO alike. And when you're doing inhale growls, they tend to sound like you're trying to do a pig squeel. Winter Solstice and Ghost Of A Fallen Age are both perfect examples. All their vocals just sound too repetitive, so I prefer exhales. If you learn to do pig squeels correctly, they actually don't put that bad a strain on your voice in my opinion. They put the same amount of strain on your voice that a growl usually would. Then again, if you were worried about putting too much a strain on your vocal chords since you first started doing them, then these probably aren't the vocals for you hahaha.
It's absolutely impossible for me to do inhale vocals... sounds strange. Also, I'm not good at the cookie monster screams like old-school hardcore... But whatever. Lately, I've been practicing doing a raunchy... The Who type scream. Like, with more distortion. It's on the verge of being high-pitched, because my voice is naturally kind of high pitched... But, its very raunchy. :] Right now, I'm pretty interesting in the squeals coming out of Matt from I Set My Friends on Fire. His... are... Great, I think. He has a good voice and can even go into a deep squeal.
I'm trying to develop deathcore/death metal vocals myself. I'm having a difficult time with midrange and highs because I have a generally deep voice. My deeps and gutturals are good (I can even sound like Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget, funny enough) and I'm trying to work out the pig squeal also. But I'd really like to get high, I'm just having a hard time. Anyone got any suggestions?
Well, everyone gets high in Jamaica. ...sorry. Had to make that joke. Now... the high-pitched has to be developed. After listening to The Number 12 Looks Like You for the first time, I gave it a try. Later, it became my most used scream, though lately, I've been focusing on other types much more often. Tips for screaming high. Have water nearby. This will hurt. Scream like a girl normally would but try and add distortion. Try and exert your voice as much as possible, but don't overdo it. It's very easy to put out your voice when first starting out with high-pitched screaming. Work on it... it takes a while before it starts sounding good.. or you'll sound like the guy from Alesana. He high-screams too, and high-sings.. but... both sound.. kind of bad. Eek.

I listen to techno... real stuff, I guess. This of course, would be the band Happy Hardcore. Then there's stuff like Nintendocore, which depends on 8-bit and gated synth. Such would be HORSE the band, or the SNES Bros.
OMG FALSE. Deathgrind and Deathcore aren't the same at all! While Deathcore heavily relies on influences from hardcore/metalcore, deathgrind doesn't have ANY "-core" influences at all. They're a thrashier side to Death Metal, in other words. But yeah, it all depends on what kind of hardcore you're looking for. If you're lookin for Deathcore, I'm a BIG fan and know of (and know personally) a lot bands. I guess here's a list of what I've been listening to lately: Animosity Architects At The Throne Of Judgment August Burns Red Between The Buried And Me Born Of Osiris Bring Me The Horizon Despised Icon The Devil Wears Prada Elysia Emmure For The Fallen Dreams From The Shallows Glass Casket HeavyHeavyLowLow The Human Abstract Into The Moat Ion Dissonance Johnny Truant Job For A Cowboy (Before they came out with their full-length Genesis) Knights Of The Abyss Parkway Drive Protest The Hero Suicide Silence Underneath The Gun War From A Harlots Mouth Whitechapel Winds Of Plague Take a listen to the bands in bold, they're all fantastic. If anything, just listen to Knights Of The Abyss, Elysia, Whitechapel, All Shall Perish, and Bring Me The Horizon. As for pure Hardcore, I wouldn't really be able to suggest any bands. Like I said, I'm much more into the Deathcore genre.
Ah I guess. You have a nice list there, that I think I can agree with very much, except for the fact that I hate Job for a Cowboy. The other day I heard Emmure, and was slightly blown away. I'm a big fan of Bring Me the Horizon. Those guys are definitely one of my favorites. If you're into deathcore, definitely check out Embrace the End. That band is one of the best I've heard.
You're a tad bit confused to be honest, haha. Sorry, but high screams and yells are meant to come from the back of your throat. If your using a lot of your nose, I'm sure it sounds a bit bad and hurts even worse. And if you're doing growls through your nose then it's gonna sound even more terrible. Growls are supposed to come from your chest, and it takes a long time to get a sound that sounds remotely close to sounding good. If you do growls through your nose or throat, you're likely to tear your vocal chords within a month, I guarantee it.
Haha, I know what you mean... It took me forever to make a good growl. I used to scream kind of scratchy, kind of like a punk/post-hardcore style... Similiar to the sound that the screamer from Drop Dead, Gorgeous can make. But, my voice started developing a raspy-er tone, which I turned into a growl. :] ...I have a feeling you're in a band. Tell me more of this.

Anime My Mama Always Told Me Stupid is as Stupid Does...
Nomurah! replied to The Spectacular Professor's topic in Otaku Central
Not much to say. Anime is a form of entertainment, such as books, video games, or any other TV show. Some will like it, others won't. But to say such un-educated things as he wrote in his article... Well. That's just ignorant. -
I have returned... yes. I was grounded for the pasty few days, that's why I haven't been on. Anyways, because the only thing I had left was TV, I've been listening to some killer music. My newest fav at the moment is 'Falling Down' by Atreyu. I can't stand this band's newer stuff, but this song is actually pretty catchy, I just love the chorus. And earlier I heard The Crimson, which is another good Atreyu song. Also, the newest song by In Flames, The Mirror's Truth, which imo isn't as good as Take this Life or The Quiet Place, but it was good. And the video was weird. Another song I heard was Silence and Goodbye by The Automn Offering, which was WICKED! And in other news, Circle Takes the Square is working on there newest album, YAY! I love these guys ever since I heard Kill the Switch. I already know it's going to be a masterpiece. Plus, Dream Theatre, Opeth, Three and Between the Buried and Me are going on tour, sweetness, even though I'm never going to go >_> EDIT: Dio's son is actually a weatherman in Binghamton NY. So lol for you guys. I thought that was pretty cool when I heard it.
Haha.. funny. I love the video for "Falling Down"... It's based off my favorite book. But that's for you guys to figure out! Ooooo. Yeah... Circle's new CD isn't news... it's been about three years now actually since they gave news of the new album. Still not out. A guitarist and drummer later lol... and nothing. But I'm hopeful, still. It'll be a good one. I'm listening to Saetia right now, looking at tabs of theirs, and trying to learn a few of the songs. The songs, essentially all have mellow clean bits, and suddenly explode into over drive and blood-curdling vocals. Billy is definitely one of my favorite vocalists of all time.. Each song has such poetic meaning, and emotion to it. If you want something to make you think, to make you sad, to make you happy, or to make you absolutely inspired... Saetia will do the trick.
