1. Aha.. God. First of all, Definitely Three Evils by Coheed and Cambria, the whole song is just so moving... especially the ending. It sounds so happy with such a brutal subject to be singing about. "Pull the trigger and the nightmare stops" And then there's my favorite song of all time, literally.. "Light and The Glass" by Coheed. I can't tell you how many times I've cried on that song. The choir singing "Pray for us all"... Claudio yelling out "Your father's dead, he died in his sleep", which reminds me of my wife, who the lyrics follow closely.. It's sad, yes. "Remembrance Dialogue"- Number 12 Most of it is just the singers screaming those two words in the name, but they manage to make it so sad, with all of the ringing and guitars...Hell, even the drummer sounds moving in that song. These next two bands both..are very depressing, while nothing alike. Saetia, definitely, and As Cities Burn as well. So, anything by them is great, even though I lost interest in ACB for a while, I regained it... by actually LISTENING to the music. Underoath evokes so many emotions, with their two great albums "Changing of Times" and "Define the Great Line".. While Define has a raunchy southern Norma-Jean style to it, and makes you kind of...angry? Or is it afraid? Since most of the songs deal with being totally... helpless. Changing is a broken-heart album...every song on that album is just depressing, but somehow it brings a uplifting sense into your heart. While I'm talking to myself about Underoath, you guys should also listen to This Runs Through, the former project fo the Chamberlain brothers, which is a much sadder experience than Spencer's work on Define. I'm done. Nuff said. p.s- you have good taste in music, DB.
2. Alright. So, to discuss live shows. And for us that actually are in bands, and don't sit around and ramble about what genres are what with internet friends all day, we must work on it... My band, and my best friends in the music business (Strike the Choir) have been discussing how to improve our live shows. I mean, I like... Crowd involvement.. unfortunately, all the kids we get are mostly scene kids that care too much about not looking bad to the girls that they talk to in between every song. So. Yeah. The crowd doesn't really try and make us feel good while we're on stage. My favorite shows are the homey, inside ones, at small places. And, I also love going to Kaiden and Asteios concerts. Because, metalcore and deathcore are just fun to go see, because you know what the time sigs are going to be like, so it's easy to dance along (at Kaiden's last show near here, I got on stage and hardcore danced in front of a crowd of a hundred or so after their bassist asked the crowd to try and and bob their heads even a little bit) Open D Chord Palm Mutes- Good thing or bad thing on stage? My most recent show was Trans- Siberian Orchestra.. It was great, thanks to Claire's recommendations. :] Kind of long though, some parts were BORING as crap, but most of it was amazing. Afterall, it is christmas music, aha.
3. Aha, that reminds me... Tim and Eric Awesome Show! Good Job!- Well, it may be one of the weirdest comedy you'll see... But the skits are original. I mean, if it takes a Robin Williams look-a-like skit to make the whole show awesome for me... It did it. I also enjoy that Dunngin talk show skit they do every few episodes. Red Vs. Blue Season Five- Well, It's one of my favorite seasons of RvB. Truly funny, and it can be funny even for people who don't play Halo. Well. Sometimes.. But it's just great. And, It's pretty cool how they can make it, having to use such simple tactics and ideas. Adobe, baby. The Number 12 Looks Like You- "Mongrel"- Great album. Not as great as Nuclear (But better than Rosy Red Glasses) It's pretty short and it takes a few listens to get into it. Great progressive elements, drummer, elements of deathcore and everything else. Unfortunately, most of the "emo" influences were killed in the new album. Still a good one. Heroes- AGHHHH. Favorite show. What can I say... It's about superheroes, and the creators did well to make it original using un-original powers, by making the characters so realistic. The season one DVD is one of my favorite box sets, and I can't wait for the next one. Attack of the Show- Olivia... is the QUEEN OF OSCAR-MAYER
4. I've been reading the American version of the manga Vampire Knight.. Yes, I am a guy.. But I like alot of the Shojo Beat titles, lol. I'm also trying to finish Naruto, (yes I know... who hasn't?) in full. I've never finished all of it, but I have seen the ending, and parts of Shippuden. Other than that, I havn't seen every episode or read every chapter from the end of the Chuunin exam, so I'm planning on finishing that soon. I'm still working on the subs of Bleach. I have up to episode 75... May take a while.
5. Eh, I don't remember many of the black metal bands I've heard... But I do live by a code. "If it's not from Norway, it's not real Black Metal".. Even though, I bet there are a few BM bands from other places, aha.. Isn't Venom a I-Wanna-Be-A-Shock-Rocker group? Ah yes, the old days of seeing them with snakes crawling around their necks with pentagrams and flames in every direction. Sigh. Dreamy.. Anywho.. I've refrained from talking of this band for a while now, to avoid a royal butt-kicking...but... "Oden Is On Our Side" is one of my favorite albums.. Amon Amarth. Death Metal band. My favorite of the metal scene. I like them much more than I do, my very first encounter with metal (which just so happened to be a long time ago) Opeth. However, I do kind of wish Amon Amarth had the key sounds of Opeth, or even Nightwish. But I am glad that I found out about this band, though I'm not big on knowledge of metal, I have enough sense to know they're teh shiz. But I don't like their guitar solos.. Forgive me. I don't like many guitar solos, unless they're in old songs. But there's only a few solos anyway. Amon Amarth is my "fight music"... Much more inspiring than the Rocky Theme. "Raise your swords up high See the black birds fly Let them hear your rage Show no fear ATTACK!" edit: sorry about that first part...I was looking at the black metal discussion on the last page by accident... Kill 'Em All... Good album by Metallica. Early Trash Metal... Started newer thrash bands like that of Black Tide. At least, I suppose they're thrash. Good stuff, though.
6.
My favorite dance would probably have to be the Time Warp from Rocky Horror Picture Show. I love the movie, but that dance always gets me up and groovin' everytime. "It's just a jump to the left. And a Step to the Right! Put your hands on your hips. And bring your knees in tight!" That whole movie is about audience participation, but that's the culmination of it.
Haha, how could I forget that one? That movie was a classic. :] My girlfriend recently made me watch that movie.. I was kind of appalled at how odd it was. That's my third favorite... My other favorite dance is the ending scene (alot of cool dances happen at ends of movies)
7. My two favorites would be... Probably the infamous Napoleon Dynamite dance, near the end of the movie, man...I made my little cousin learn that dance. Aha, even to this day, my friends and I try to do that dance. Tis a moment suspended in time...kind of. And the other...Would be the ending dance to The Final Battle (Beezleboss) at the end of Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny.. Jack Black starts jumping around like a swan...on crack. I learned that dance, fo' sho. I show off my dance talents with those moves all the time, and I just happen to pick up all the ladies. Kind of.
8.
I'd help out, but I hate music.
BLAST IT! We've lost another one to the hatred for music. And I thought someone with knowledge of such things as metal may be a handy advisary, but I thought wrong. "We are enemies now...You and I"
9. Rites of Spring is an awesome band. Can't remember when I first heard them... I think maybe on a documentary about hardcore, or something. I havn't really checked them out, though, and I havn't remembered to look them up until now. Thanks Face. :] I've heard of Moss Icon, and Embrace on numerous genre-whore lists, never checked out either. Kind of lazy when it comes to checking out bands.. Anyway.
10. Hate to change up the subject about these bands I havn't heard of, and about the numerous genres like Art Rock.. Anyone like punk bands like SSD or Die Kreuzen? (I wrote a longer post explaining this crap, that was more educated...but wouldn't you know my friend hit the back button in a moment of rawr) All I ever see is posts about Black Flag, Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedies or the Misfits, no offense. So, anyone heard of any other good punk bands? DYS SSD Die Kruezen Gang Green Jerry's Kids etc. etc. etc.
11. Dare I say this thread...better not become a ghost. So, to clear up some things, I've been out for a while, and havn't had means to a computer... I'll get on one...soon. (Well, I'm on one right now, aha) But that's besides the point. I'm getting DSL soon...but not soon enough (this summer), and it's hard to upload my parts, but I still want to be a part of this somehow. Mr. Maul knows what he's doing. :] So, I guess Mr. Maul can be the mastermind behind this project for all the times I'm not posting in the thread.
12.
I fit in with the undead crew, mostly. She betrayed me and the Senior-Citizen Club for you undead pricks? Sonofabitch.
13. Yes, we know, Justin. Metalcore is a bad genre, by now. Yes we are aware. =] But there are a few other good "hardcore" bands beside Gallows, considering that Gallows is just a mainstream band. I think you should try Gospel, and Hot Cross. Those are the two that stick out on the top of my head right now, though Gospel has a mix-up of alot of post-rock as well. And I'd like to correct myself, on that whole post-hardcore thing. Pop-post-hardcore bands are the reason why I hate it so much, after all, I was completely forgetting the good post-hardcore bands, which Gallows would probably fit in well with, like Fear Before, Iwouldetc (though that is only one of the genres they have to their name), The Blood Brothers, etc. Gallows is good. Others are better, but Gallows has good song writing-skills, and different and very evident song-style changes, while keeping within the punk genre. Not scenecore, but mainstream, surprising for a british band.
14. Post-hardcore is my most-hated genre. It's sickening, even more than me. And Gallows, is one of my favorite bands as of right now. They're very innovative, with the hardcore-punk sound mixed in with a few (real) screamo-esque and post-mathcore (they sound like some of they're bits come from Fear Before, such as the song "Just Because You Sleep Next to me...") as well as...metalcore, but thank God, for the most part, they keep it Hardcore. Good music to listen to when you want to feel bad to the bone, and be angry for no reason. Not really, but whatever. They have the real rock-and-roll sound. Another Warped tour band, this one though, is actually worth going to the tour to see, unlike the rest of the Warped tour which is filled with scenexcore. I'm glad Orchestra of Wolves came to USA, when it did, I got it, and I still love it. It's kind of sad that they've already made a statement about when they're going to break up... At least try to keep this genre alive. Some of the members better start up some other projects while the singers goes off to be a tattoo-artist. Bleh.
15. Off with all the other discussions, but a small little list of a few revies I found about post-hardcore bands, while googling the term "screamo", almost hoping to find a miracle (I was actually searching for a reliable site to buy an Orchid CD off of) The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus- Linne the Librarian (extremely mislead?) says: Finding this band was completely random - I was in a taxi in the UK and the driver was listening to a US chart show on his car radio. I heard Face Down and was just able to catch the band's name before I had to get out of the taxi. Not available in the UK - I had to source from amazon, com, and it was well worth it. Really, really daft band name, but the music makes up for it. Extremely accessible metal. Megan Schwartz (stupid?) says: After hearing Face Down and Your Guardian Angel, which is an absolutely beautiful song, I decided that I wouldn't mind having this CD. BIG MISTAKE. There is a huge difference between the songs you hear on the radio and the ones on this CD. The only genre I could put them in is screamo. The majority of songs on this album are not sung, they are simply screamed out in what sounds like some type of hellish gag. Do not buy this album if you like what's on the radio, you won't hear it, except for 2 songs. C. Krow (not as stupid, but mislead as well? Probably needs to roll up windows?) says: I haven't been listening to emo in years just because I'm getting older. This record has renewed my interest. Hard music with great melody. This has pretty much been playing in my car all summer with the windows down. Hawthorne Heights- Some Kid (ahahahaa) says: Once again another emo band whining about how terrible life is. We don't want to hear it!!! Keep it to yourselves, you wimps. Why do emo bands exist to begin with. They write about how messed up their life is when basically everybodies life is messed up. We've all got problems. But we don't have to put it in music so the rest of the world has to listen to it. SHUT UP!!! Some Other Kid (..what?) says: silver bullet and life on standby are the best songs ever!! JT is an awesome singer and Casey Calvert does the best screaming! with out Casey the Band would be nothing! without his screaming added to the songs.. itd b so boring but hes there so its all good! if ur a fan of emo/screamo musi youll luuuuuuuuuuuuuuv this!!!!!u shoudl defenitly get it and HH's other cd too!!! hope i helped you !!!!! good luck!!! and yes you shoudl luv hawthorne heights!! Some Other Other Kid (good description of what ONE member sounds like when he's singing, nice.) says: first of all, this is not my cd, my little brother bought it, and even he doesn't like it that much. I felt i should write a review because i was so offended by the absolute crappiness of this album. Hawthorne Heights would have gotten 3 stars out of me if they didn't have that goofy looking dude whose only purpose is to make some noise that is a hybrid of choking, vomiting, screaming, and at times, hissing. the only good material is the bonus material. at least on the demos you can't really hear the ugly scream dude. the best song on the cd and the only good one is 'apparently hoverboards don't work on water'. too bad they didn't stick with the whole Day In The Life thing and not suck. Some "opendmindedness personified" deusche (thinks he's the smart one of the group) says: Despite what everyone else here seems to believe these guys have just as many good points to offset "less favorable" qualities. One part it seems most people can agree on is that the guitar playing by this band really rocks. I'll admit that the lyrics are unoriginal but they are not bland and they are rather catchy. Those of us that listen to real screamo bands such as ATREYU know that the screamer for HH actually sounds really good. And for all of you who think that you listen to screamo I say this to you: just because the singer starts singing a little louder or pounds it out at the end of a song, that's not screaming, that's just singing louder and it's going to sound totally different so it's not even fair to make a comparison there. Also, if any of you hate "emo" or punk to begin with than you have no right to review this cd because your opinions are biased negative. I do enjoy this style of music but my opinions here are completely objective (not the not-automatic 5 star rating). For those of you stuck in the 80s, this is the new punk, get over it and catch up with the rest of us. I personally don't believe in the word "emo" because all that means is that the music is centered on emotions (usually pain or loss). Pretty much every artist and three of their cousins has written a song like that so I declare that everything is emo Blessthefall- James Toon (some guy out of a christian fantasy cartoon) says: I'm the type of music buyer that is willing to buy a new album even if I have heard very little to nothing about the artist I am buying for. Surprisingly, the majority of the time, I thoroughly enjoy what I buy, with very few exceptions. This album was one of those that I thoroughly enjoyed. Being a fan of a wide variety of Christian music, I try to find music outside of the "Top 40" equivalent in Christian music. From beginning to end, I found this album very enjoyable. They are a Christian band, but they don't overfill the lyrics with Christian messages. More so, they also use their lyrics to deal with daily struggles in life and they offer strong, positive messages withou giving off the feeling of being in Church and listening to a praise band. Granted, I love worship music, but I also love music with Christian overtures, but can also be enjoyed by secular music listeners. This band does an escellent job of this. While not are hard as some metal bands or as Screamo (as one reviewer puts it; nice word choice, I like the phrase Screamo), they still have some metal influence in them. If you like the Almost, Underoath, Inhale/Exhale, and other metal bands with screaming in it, you'll love this album. Take a chance with them. You won;t be disappointed. David Nypaver (dude, anyone into good music was dissapointed by this) says: When I first heard that this band was a Christian band, I groaned. I didn't want to listen to something that was praising God throughout the entire cd, not that there's anything wrong with that--that's just not what I want to listen to. However, after putting it in my stereo, I was pleasantly surprised. More than that, I was overjoyed with my purchase. Blessthefall combines just the right amount of singing with screaming, and the lyrics are great and send a good message. Also, the instrumentality is quite impressive as well. The lead singer does some fun things with his voice, and does a great job with the vocals. This is definitely one of my favorite cds in my collection, and I strongly recommend it to anyone who likes screamo music. They're considered metal, but they're not too heavy, so heavy metal fans will most likely be disappointed. edit: Oh yeah, I was just joking about Light This City..That band sucked eheh. But as for Amon Amarth...Sorry about that. I lashed out on myself after that one. p.s- All of KoRn's CDs sounds the same.
16. I just got into Amon Amarth, after hearing alot of "you'd like them, man"s...Bleehh. Yes, they're very nice, indeed. Good metalcore. And Light this City, which is a teenage version of Arch Enemy, which is why I like them. They have the youth and hotness that AE doesn't have, aha.
17. Wait...I thought Tarja and the new singer were working together on their newest album? Ah well, the new one has better melody with the band, and the band is no longer slaves of zeh Tarja. ..Wait.. .. .. I ACTUALLY KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT A METAL BAND!(historic event?)
18. Well...actually, as far as lyrics go... Um. xD I'm looking for a more realistic tone, and "the villain" itself may be the fact the man never fulfills his dream of being in space. He's just an old man that's close to dying, out in the ocean with a crew of men, and he thinks back to times when he was younger and how he's always been obsessed with astronomy. But in the end, I want him to dream about finally making it into space, and landing on the moon, and all the wonders it beholds, but he can't wake up, because he's died that night, and that'll be the end of this collection of songs we'll make. :D lol You guys still excited? XD Alrighty. Mr. Maul, I've got it. :D So, we may have another guitarist make a riff number 2 to go along with that, and that will mark the first 36 seconds of the song. After it fades a way, wait a few seconds, and a upbeat part will come. Can we have some higher notes on guitars for the upbeat part, guys? Anywho. I'll be recorded the upbeat part right now, and upload it soon. Edit: Here you go. http://www.mediafire.com/?8wyybcziqdo Tell me if it's to ohard to go along with or something, and I'll make a new one. Edit 2: After that...I thought what the heck. If you guys don't want this one, it's fine. http://www.mediafire.com/?5bj7agme2id "Noone ever told me this is what I'd be, and that I'd get so old you chase a dream and take a chance but I've been stuck on this ship for so long." First verse. Deux or somebody will come in on the upbeat part with the second verse... Who wants to write the second verse? lol
19.
That name is god awful. No offense Mann. And yeah, vocolist, but what about lryics?! Who's going to write, and about what? I'll write if need-be. Or is there just going to be covers? I can't play well, nor do I have the equipment to send my **** over teh net, but I'll write for you guys.
Haha don't worry, Mr. Gunman. And I think the name is one of the best names of the 22nd Century. Heck yes. I'm working on an outline for a story... About a captain of a ship that has an obsession with space, and always dreamed of going to the moon. I don't know, anyone want to help me think of more?
20. Laaaameeee. :] Well lately. I've been making a list of albums to buy before Christmas, and a few albums and EPs I have yet to get are from these bands. Most of these bands are emotive hardcore, and some are mathcore. Saetia Circle Takes the Square The Blood Brothers Head Wound City Envy HeavyHeavyLowLow Gospel Iwouldsetmyselfonfireforyou pg. 99 Protest the Hero Now, please tell me somebody here has heard of any of these bands... Argh. Tell me if they're good or not... I know kevin knows some, he's told me about three of them before.
21.
If you're not familiar with this group then here are two places to get you acquainted with them: History & Wiki Now basically Mannheim Steamroller is considered to be an 18th century classical rock group for their style of combining acoustic, electronic and digital and analog into their works. But what really makes them fun is the combination of songs where they add a modern rock sound to them and then they also have songs where they use real instruments to create a more authentic recreation of how a song would have sounded when it was originally composed. I really like those songs the best. I'd link you to a sample but I haven't really found one that would let you hear more than the simple thirty seconds you get at a place like Amazon. Christmas music is always rather iffy for me, other than some of the more traditional classics like the Messiah and the Nutcracker. I've never been all that keen on the jingles from popular cartoons or even albums produced by rock groups. But Mannheim Steamroller is by far one of my favorite types of Christmas music just because I really like what they've done with a lot of different Christmas songs. If you haven't heard of them, though I suspect you probably have since some of their Christmas arrangements have been used quite a lot. Anyway, I'd definitely recommend checking them out. I'll be doing the same since I'll be picking up their newest Christmas album that they released this year: Christmas Song. Also, another great thing about this group is they're reasonably priced with their albums running at only $13 per CD. Also, if you already know about them, then you'll want to check to see if they'll be stopping in your area for their next Tour. I know I plan on attending when they come to Salt Lake City later this month.
Ah yes. MHSR. :] My second favorite nu-Christimas group. My first would be Trans-Siberian Orchestra, of course. But MHSR are fun to listen to, and powerful as well. My granparents like them too. XD I've never gotten a full CD from them... but. I may. I don't know... :] Could you compare them to TSO?
22.
Eep, I've wanted to do this some time ago, but I don't have really good audio editing material, so I'll have to work with Audacity until I get something better too. What can I do? Ehm... - Guitar - Bass - Lyrics - Melodic vocals (A lot - I probably have a Baritone voice) - Rhytmic vocals - Beatbox :] And more, but then I'll need to hi-jack my friend's place... Well, like I said, my recording/editing possibilities are kind of limited (I have a headset mic.), but I can at least write down what I can't record. Sounds like fun to be involved in this. :x
lol I also am using...a headset mic :[, and Audacity. But, the sound hopefully won't be too bad. I'll make a drumtrack soon, after I hear what the strings come up with. So. Who wants to play bass on the first song? :] And we...must also come up with a name. I say: Knight Shift Gnomes, lol. :D And also, I'd like Goodbye, Face to join us sooner or later. He needs something to record with, but he'll get something eventually (maybe) and help us out. How many guitarists should we limit to a song? :D No limit vocal-wise. We'll switch from verse to verse. :] Cause that's how I roll, dawgs. I kind of want long-ish songs, but we'll probably have to gather more members and take baby steps before we get to the long songs, but whatever. We shall make it! ...And... Did Mr. Maul just say he was in the Postal Service or he's just relating us to them?
23.
Ugh... Garageband mysteriously uninstalled itself from my comp, so I installed Audacity which is MUCH better already XD. Anywho, I randomly recorded myself singing Godfather's Lollipop by Shabutie. It's not nearly as good as the original, but then again it's my favorite vocal performance ever, so its not easy to live up to. There are some glaring mistakes at one part and another part that I remembered my parents were home and I wouldn't be able to sing the part with a lot of cuss words. You can hear me ****ing up XD. I was quite impressed with myself, though. I think I nailed most of the soft part. Anyway, here's... The Original Me Singing EDIT: No the kind of drums you were prolly hoping for, but if anyone wants something to go off of... http://www.mediafire.com/?1xjlwzittib EDIT 2: I'm proud of this rendition of Lechium by Dredg as well. I'd really like to find a song in more lower tone, though, since I sing better that way ^^;; http://www.mediafire.com/?7he4nm3bfmi
Haha, you see, you need... to put the wav files to wma files so they won't be so big. My computer won't let me downlaod them...Tis a freezey little bastard indeed. go into windows movie maker, put the song in just as audio, save the movie file, and it 'll come out as just...a song...same song...with less mb. Indeed. So. After the collecting of members, we will get a myspace. And...I think having IM would be a good choice so that we could use the file transfer on one of the IM services...like AIM, or MSN, Yahoo, etc. to make it faster and easier to give files to each other. :]
24.
Despite having suggested this both here and on another forum and letting it die before it even got off the ground, I'm all for it. I play guitar, bass, and I can work stuff out on a piano. But since I don't have my bass right now, I'm best at guitar. However, I can't do fast alternate picking or sweep picking as in solos, and I have never been able to get an artificial harmonic out of my guitar. So if we ended up needing some of that stuff, I'm not the right person. I'd be fine with rhythm guitar, though. I think someone should write a part of a song on whatever instrument they can play and post it up here for the next instrument to be added on. I was considering making a thread for that a long time ago but I never even got around to writing a short melody. If anyone needs a recording program, google Audacity. Also, guitarists and bassists should check out Power Tab Editor. You need to know a little music theory, but it's a program that allows you to write out tablature and save it as a tab or a midi. I use it all the time and it's awesome.
Yeah..I'll be using Audacity... The quality's not the best (my mic sucks) but it works out in the end. I'll record a drumtrack soon, but we should get some more members first... There's not a limit to people involved in this project, so.. BUG PEOPLE UNTIL THEY JOIN! Heckyes! That method will surely work.. Does anyone know of a member that's good at classico-like achoustic bits? And of bassists of course...
25.
Oh, wait, I was wrong. I think I was confused as to which band we were talking about. Battle of Mice is a mixture of sludge metal, doom metal, and post-rock. So yeah, good call and good addition to the discussion. As for those of you discussing Job For a Cowboy, they started out as a stupid Myspace-Grindcore band, but their debut full-length debut, Genesis, saw them transform into a straight-up death metal band (and a very, very average one at that). And talk about mallcore...
Ah, so are you saying they're not worth checking out? :] Anyway, I heard my first Battle of Mice song today...and wow. :] Though the song did get a little boring after a while without any fast tempos, I liked it alot. Julie has a nice voice...she can change it up a bit unlike alot of female singers. She has the mousey voice, the creepy voice, the yells, etc. Tis quite nice. I really liked the drummer's bit in the song, and the guitarists sound really nice on the lighter riffs in the song. I also enjoyed the samples towards the end of the song, I'm always a sucker for samples.. By the way, the name of the song was "At The Base of The Giant's Throat" (Thanks Kevin.)
